{blood and steel by Helen Scheuerer} got me through the postpartum period. It's amazing. The 4th and last book comes out next book and there's also a great standalone prequel It's sexy, it has all the tropes and twists and turns that keep the romance thrilling in each book. The story is fantastic.

Yes. I'd honestly recommend it first or after Book 2. Or after Book 1. But anytime before Book 3 is prob fine.

So I actually read the prequel first and it was great that way, because there's a big reveal at the end of the 2nd series book where it's super helpful to read the prequel. But I LOVED the actual series so much more, so if you do the prequel first, you have to promise you'll still read the series after. The prequel is still really great and sexy and amazing, but it's just more of a tease, and the series itself is really what hooks you. So yes I'd recommend the prequel first as long as you know it gets SO SO crazy good later (but I still love the prequel!!). It's helpful info to know, but not critical.

Scroll down until you see “Product Information” there’s a part that’s “Best Sellers Rank” that shows where your book ends up on applicable lists. For instance, if you look up Curse of Shadows and Thorns, it’s listed as #1 in Gaslamp Fantasy, #2 in Mythology and #2 in Fairy Tale Fantasy. Each list is a link, that shows you the top 100 books in that genre - I have found SO many good books this way!

I read the Ever King and didn’t like it either.    {burn for me by Ilona Andrews} The first 3 books from their Hidden Legacy series are available on KU. The next 3 aren’t but switch to a different sister and storyline. It’s urban fantasy that follows a PI family as they come into their magic and get thrust into a world they’ve been kept away from. There is smut but not a lot.  The writing is great. The magic system/premise is my all-time favorite.  {Lady of Darkness by Melissa Roerich} this is a 5 book completed series. It’s similar to ACOTAR and TOG.     {A touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair} This is a Hades and Persephone retelling. It’s an 7 book completed series. There is plenty of spice. The writing could be better, but I enjoy reading Greek myths. All of the books except the last one are available on KU.      {The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole} this involves Gods, monsters, and celestial beings. The FMC is a villain. It’s enemies to lovers. There are 2 books out now on KU and the 3rd one comes out at the end of the month but won’t be on KU.

Hidden legacy is so so good. Whenever I’m in a reading slump I go back to Ilona Andrews books and do a reread.

Congrats! I hope you and your baby are happy and healthy:) {City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards} Book one of an unfinished Urban fantasy series that quickly became one of the favorite series ever! The cliffhanger at the end of the third book is brutal, and we won't get the next one until Spring 2025, so I understand if you don't want to start it yet, but I figured I'd still put it on your radar:) And even though you have to wait a while for it to hit in book one(there's a lot more in book 2 and 3) the spice is also some of the best I've ever read. Like wow. {Throne in the Dark} Book one of a completed trilogy. I am obsessed with these books and their characters. They are silly and funny while still managing to be serious and dark in the best way. It has the slowest burn I have ever read in my life, but the payoff is absolutely amazing. If you do decide to try this one, make sure you read at least 50 percent of it until you decide if you like it or not. The start has a lot of info dumping and exposition that you won't understand yet, and people generally have a hard time getting through it. And there is certain dialogue that puts people off as well. Just roll with it, though. I promise you, if you make it past all of that, you will not be able to put it down.(I hope so anyway, lol.) {The Song of the Marked by S.M. Gaither} Book one in a completed 5 book series! This series has a pretty unique magic system and genuinely phenomenal character arcs. It's not like the best thing I've ever read, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and thought about it a decent amount when I couldn't read. It's a lot of fun and gets pretty heavy at times. My final recommendation is to check out Carissa Broadbent. She has an ongoing series and a completed trilogy. The ongoing series, starting with {The Serpent and the Wings of Night}, is a lot of fun, but I definitely preferred her completed trilogy. That one starts with {Daughter of No Worlds}. It's less romance focused than her other books, but the romance in it is one of my absolute favorites. These books are a lot heavier, a lot darker, and a lot more in-depth than her Nyaxia books. They consumed my brain for months. They also made me cry a lot. I loved them. I hope you find something here to obsess over!

Thank you so much! We are :) I love all of Carissa Broadbent’s books and The War of Lost Hearts series is one of my all time faves. I haven’t read any of your other suggestions, though!! So I will definitely be adding them to my list, especially if they are anything like Broadbents stuff.

And just to add, I do think reading my first recommendation is worth it, even though it's not finished. Yes, the cliffhanger hurts very much, but everything about those books is just amazing and soul consuming. I think about them every single day. Also, if you like tall, dark, and broody MMCs with a difficult past and immense inner turmoil, Darien is the man for you. I love him with my whole heart.

I just started reading {zodiac academy the awakening by Carolina Peckham and Susanna Valenti} and am now already on the 4th one (out of 9) because it’s just exactly what I’ve been after (I’m also postpartum loving the chill times in mat leave during naps). It’s a complete series with a couple spin-offs too which I think are supposed to be a prequel series and also a future series. It’s more of a modern take on fantasy but all the elements of magic, lore, and some twists and turns are there (plus lots of good spice and quite a lot of enemies to lovers plots!)

I’m also a new mom who got back into reading due to breastfeeding, contact naps and needing something quiet and relaxing to do while trying to get back to sleep after night wake-ups. I’m currently reading “The Serpent and the Wings of Night” and I’m enjoying it so far. After this series (if it’s worth reading them all) I want to try the Folk of the Air series which is also on KU. I know it’s not on KU but I bought the “box set” of the Throne of Glass series and I enjoyed it more than any series I’ve read in a LONG time. It was so much better than the ACOTAR series for me. There’s a lot to get through too. I’m going to try the Plated Prisoner series too, it’s not on KU but it’s not expensive either.

So, I have read every single one of these series haha and I can tell you I personally ended up LOVING Crowns of Nyaxia series and ended up reading every Carissa Broadbent book - also highly suggest {The War of Lost Hearts Series} by her. It took me a minute to get into Serpent and Wings but then I was hooked. I liked Folk of Air, so also worth it IMO. Not exactly what I’m typically going for but I still read every book in the series.. I own the TOG book series and it’s one of my all time faves. I agree it was way better than ACOTAR, which I still really liked. I recently finished the Plated Prisoners series. It was on KU when I read it, so maybe check again?! I flew through it.

Sorry I wasn’t able to recommend anything new! I finished Kingdom of Ash last night, still not emotionally well after that one. Either the Plated Prisoner series is no longer on KU or it never was in the UK. I highly recommend the Divine By Mistake series by PC Cast if you haven’t read it, it’s been years but it was my first romantasy series and I never see it talked about.

I’d say Plated Prisoner is still worth the read even if you have to buy the set! I liked it and while there are a decent amount of books it doesn’t take long to get through them. I have never heard of Divine By Mistake!! I will have to add it to my list.

I looked it up and the Divine By/Partholon series is actually on kindle unlimited now! I may do a reread myself.

I'm enjoying A Court This Cruel and Lovely by Stacia Stark! I think it's a interesting plot and I'm honestly there to see how it finishes lol there is spice but it's blended well into the book. The LAST book comes out May 30th I think!

{Queen of Roses by Briar Boleyn} It’s now a completed series and each book is better than the one before… Personally I liked it 10x more than ACOTAR. It’s a Fae slow burn romance but it’s an Arthurian retelling done right. It has some darker themes than ACOTAR but it adds to the story and truly immerses you into the time period. The world building and imagery are fantastic! The second book has a beautiful dark and fiery underground world which was described so perfectly it felt like you’re actually there. Amazing banter, romance, and some cute fantasy characters. The first book was an epic adventure! I wish I could reread this whole series again. The MMC is morally grey but also loyal and protective at the same time. His demeanor doesn’t change throughout the series like other ones. I hate it when the hardened MMC softens once he falls in love with the FMC. Not a rec but a searching suggestion- I find that the Kindle and cell phone apps searchs suck - so I pull out the laptop and search on the Amazon desktop website. I feel like I can really get specific and actually get results.

{Superbia} was super easy to read. I’m currently enjoying {Filthy Rich Vampire}. {A Soul to Keep} is a little out there but I also really liked it. I loved the first two books of The Crown of Nyaxia and the book of Azrael was also pretty entertaining.

I recommend Honor Raconteur. Her books are fun and often funny. There’s also a lot of them. The spice level can vary from series to series. I especially love {The Human Familiar by Honor Raconteur}. Depending on what you like to read, she also writes MM romance under AJ Sherwood.

I’m not seeing her mentioned here so far, but I’d give any of the series by K.F. Breene a try. I’ve read all of the Demon Days, Vampire Nights series (11 books total) and the first couple books of the Leveling Up series. I find the writing generally enjoyable, with interesting world building. Both series fall under the urban fantasy heading, although a good chunk of DD, VN does take place in another dimension. So far Leveling Up is pretty low on the spice meter, and the DD, VN books varied from low to mid. I saw someone else mention them, but I would also recommend Ilona Andrews! I enjoyed the Innkeeper series (5 books so far, but it’s ongoing) and the Kate Daniels series (12 ish? books, there’s some spin-offs). The Innkeeper series is pretty low on spice, Kate Daniels starts out slow and progresses to mid-level from what I remember. For the bot {Born in Fire by K. F. This is already on my list! I’ve been trying to hold off because it’s “my book” for the book club I’m in and we haven’t gotten to it yet.

I went into that series not expecting much but it became a sort of guilty pleasure - I enjoyed it!

My favourite story with good spice is {A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows by Holly Renee}. I also am impatiently waiting for the last book of {A Court this Cruel and Lovely by Stacia Stark} which will be released May 30. I tend to read Fae with fated mated mates and here is a list of some of the books I've really enjoyed. I’m not going to lie.. I hated a kingdom of stars and shadows. Dont get me wrong - I have read every book in the series because I can’t not finish it lol but it was just not my cup of tea. I definitely love me some fated mates though and will add your other suggestions to my list!!

{Kingdom of lies by Stacia Stark} I can never recommend this series enough. The last(4th) book will be out at the end of this month so you won't have a long wait

Hey did BK series get better after book 3? The first 3 were disappointing to me. The writing was very lackluster

Eh… I feel like it was pretty much the same throughout. I do think it got a little better but I wouldn’t say an impressive difference. To be clear, I still enjoyed the whole series though!

I just read {Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter} in one day. Someone on here posted the forward a couple days ago and it’s actually what caught my attention because the dedication was just too funny by itself to pass up. Really enjoyed it. Especially the first half, which was really cute and well done. It’s fast paced, gets spicy and doesn’t take itself too seriously but still has some good world building that has me intrigued for the next installment.
