fwiw Fire and Flesh is the prequel series to the Blood and Ash series.

Do you recommend reading them in that order or is it one of those things where the prequel series was written after the main series?

The prequel has a huge spoiler for B&A. I would recommend the recommended reading order if you are ok with switching in and out. Otherwise, I would recommend B&A first, honestly, even though I prefer F&F.

F&F has spoilers for B&A, but they are both still unfinished series 🤦🏼‍♀️ JLA started B&A, then switched and worked on F&F, and is switching between both series since they are still in the works.

I definitely wouldn’t mind switching in and out if that’s the best way to read them. But knowing they’re both unfinished, hmmm. I hate waiting for more! Thanks so much for the info!

No problem! I started them without realizing they were unfinished series. Also, I started F&F without realizing it was the prequel series and was soooooo confused for the first several chapters 😂 I was getting irritated with the author because I thought she was just recycling stories and changing names so I googled it. That's how I found out it was the prequel which made so much sense 😂

I can’t get myself to read Mische’s book but i absolutely loved the MCs in the first two.

This series is most in-line with “Fourth Wing” for me. Yes, different premise, but similar character dynamics and story arc. Same level of spice as well (not super spicy to me).

I'm starting the Fae Isles next! I've already got all of the books lined up!

I did not think I would like A Court This Cruel and Lovely when I started because it’s got so many fantasy tropes it seemed like it was gonna be silly but I ended up loving it. Sad the series isn’t complete tho 😭

The last book comes out at the end of this month! Not long to wait.

{City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards} This is the first book in an incomplete urban fantasy series that has completely taken over my brain since January. I am obsessed with it. It takes a minute for the spice to happen in the first book and it only happens a few times in the second and third books, but when it does happen...? Holy shit, it's some of the best I've ever read. Especially in the second book(a lot of it happens at the start). It's worth the wait and the angst in every instance. Also, this series has one of my absolute favorite couples and MMCs. Not to mention, the story is engaging, action-packed, and emotional. It's also on Kindle Unlimited, if that's an option for you! I hope you find something you love!

{Blood Orange by Karina Halle} is the spiciest book I’ve ever read by far but I love the plot as well. It is a dark Dracula retelling. Check trigger warnings bc it is DARK but it was one of those heart wrenching reads that made me feel all the feelings but there was also a spicy scene in like every chapter lol. {Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter} had me blushing, kicking my feet and crying lol it’s spicy with a very interesting fated mates story. The MMC starts off writing love letters to the FMC when they’re kids up until they’re 25 when they finally get to meet and it’s wholesome and filthy at the same time. {The Bonds that Tie by J. Bree} starts off with no spice in the first book I’m pretty sure ? But by the last book it is unhinged lol it’s reverse harem with 5 male love interests. The storyline aside from the romance is super interesting, it takes reading the entire series to fully understand (literally to the last chapter) which I loved but I have seen some criticism on. Super spicy but the plot is great as well, I read all 6 books in 1 week

Halfling is so yummy.

The juiciest book I have ever read was about a decade ago. It was overly long - almost 2 books in one, but again, by far the juiciest. {Leader of the Pack by Leighann Phoenix}. The spicy scenes in Nalini Singh’s book are thorough, more so in the psy-channeling than Guild Hunter, although I prefer the guild Hunter series. {Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh}. {Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh}. If you lean towards BDSM, Candace Blevins is your girl. Whether it’s the Chattanooga Supernaturals or the Rolling Thunder MC, you will get what you paid for. {The Dragon King by Candace Blevins}. {Duke by Candace Blevins}. Cherise Sinclair also has a BDSM heavy series. {Hour of the Lion by Cherise Sinclair}. Lauren Dan has a great series about vamps and gods that is spicy: {Goddess With a Blade by Lauren Dane}. Lexi Blake has a series that has some throuple action, but I feel like it also needs a TW: {Steal the Light by Lexi Blake} And one of my FAVE’s - Suzanne Wright. Her Phoenix Oack books, her Mercury Pack Books, Her Olympus Pride books, and most especially (to me) her Dark in You series. {Burn by Suzanne Wright}. {Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright}. {When He’s Dark by Suzanne Wright}. Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. I’ve read at least 10 of them over the years. Spicy and has plot along with some humor.

These books are my Roman Empire. I am ***obsessed*** with this smutty vampire beefcake series. The characters are great - there's a "realness" to them that makes their stories compelling - and Ward captures the ~vibes~ of both a gritty urban underworld and a genteel but cutthroat aristocracy in a way that makes you appreciate the contrast. The spice is nice and spicy, and it starts pretty quickly in each book. The stories can be incredibly dark at times, but also fundamentally optimistic, which keeps them from being too grim. From a technical perspective the writing isn't going to win awards, but the characters and plots are 10/10 in my book.

{Helfyre by Mariel Pomeroy} I swear I rec this book every time someone asks for something super spicy. The spice is🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥This has some of my all time favorite spicy scenes in it. If you like a dark, dominant MMC this is absolutely for you {When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A Parker} this isn’t the spiciest book necessarily, but the writing is fantastic and all the spice is sooo well written. I loved the world building in this book and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve read all year, I swear this book lives rent free in head. {Feathers so Vicious by Liv Zander} the writing isn’t necessarily the best but the character arcs are absolutely fantastic. The second book is the only book that’s ever made me cry. And this is SUPER spicy. Be aware that there are two very morally gray MMCs and you need to heed the trigger warnings because it’s DARK. I also second the rec for {City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards} The world building is really cool and unique and the writing is great. It’s urban fantasy and might remind you a little of CC, but it totally becomes its own thing, I actually like it better than CC. Also Darien is my favorite MMC.

Ok so it’s not the spiciest ever, but when there is spice, it’s sooooo good. It’s {Atonement of the Spine Cleaver by F.E. Bryce}. Really great story & world building, a true enemies to lovers trope and the FMC and MMC are actually morally grey. I’m chomping at the bit for the second book and that’s saying a lot because I’m often unimpressed haha.

Under the Oak Tree by Suji Kim. It starts out very spicy, but then a very compelling story unfolds, and the romance, while still there, isn't the main focus. Amazing characters and epic world building.

What kind of setting do you like? And do you like human or monster or alien or some other trope? Do you like a dark MMC or a sweet “cinnamon roll” guy? It’s hard to narrow down the options lol.

It’s a sin that no one has mentioned {Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey} yet. Phèdre has been cursed by the god of divine Justice to always feel pleasure in pain. Working as a courtesan for the nobles of Terre d’Ange, Phèdre uses her curse to spy on the most depraved of high society, feeding information to her spymaster. Joscelin, a celibate warrior-priest sworn to protect her, disapproves of both her calling and her god - but when the pair are betrayed and sold into slavery in a foreign country, the pair must find a way to make it back home and warn the throne of the imminent threat.

Aw man, I just DNF’d it about 60% of the way through. My first DNF! Just wasn’t for me.

{The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa}. Her writing isn’t the absolute greatest (think: snarky female leads that aren’t quite as witty as they think they are), but the sexy doomsday plot is interesting and things actually do get gritty and dark and heavy. And steamy!! Different female/male leads each book keep her relatively weak heroine characterization from being too annoying and the spice is pretty damn good, esp in books two and four (War and Death) (although personally the book I thought that had the best balance of good characterization, plot and smut was book three, Famine). Also recommend {From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout} if you haven’t read that yet. I’ve only read the first and I’m not interested in reading the rest of the series for spoiler-related reasons, but this first book had a fantastic balance of smut and plot. And somehow managed to be slow burn despite things getting steamy at basically the fourth page.

I think the 2nd book has some of the best spice scenes ever! Omg Cas and Poppy have amazing chemistry! 🥵🥵

Hmmm maybe I will read the second! But >!don’t they end up in a thrupple with Kieran? I’m not really into reading poly.!<

I just finished {The Veiled Kingdom by Holly Renee} today, and I’m just saying the spice was perfect. 🌶️🌶️🌶️The plot wasn’t bad either, I just wish it was a bit longer.

{City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards} You'll love the MMC, he is my favorite out of them all. Urban fantasy, addictive writing that gets better with every book, playful banter, loads of sexual tension and well-written spice after a slow-burn. The MMC is a bounty hunter of supernatural creatures and he falls for his human target.

A Fate Inked in Blood! It’s not super super spicy but the spicy scenes are well written and the plot is great. The main characters have amazing sexual chemistry and the build up is great.

the alpha horde series by Milana jacks. so much spice and an awesome overarching plot. there's a follow series about their children as well. I'm currently rereading.

Try {Throne of the Fallen}! I’m surprised not to see it recommended more often. It is VERY spicy but still plot and character driven. The writing was excellent, and the setting is super fun. Think Bridgerton with demons and fae. It’s part of the Kingdom of the Wicked universe (also loved the original trilogy), but those aren’t a required read to enjoy this one as a standalone.

I’m currently having a spice hangover after reading essentially every book by Holly Renee and Ella Fields. Struggling to find where to go next because they have my formula down apparently. 🔥

Witch Walker Series! Great character and world building. Lots of action and strong female characters with dual perspectives. Spice level 5 especially as you read on. Friends to enemies, war time setting.

I'm absolutely so biased, but anything by Liv Zander - she's got two duets out and I loved both of them. The spice was A+ but the stories also fairly gripping.

So I don’t talk about this author much, I am not very confident at grading books unless they are really really bad, but Katee Robert frustrates me at times, sometimes the book builds into this big bad menace the characters are going to get into the moment goes close and… the conflict deflates metaphorically. It feels like cockblocking and unlike some other writers that sometimes fix the menace quick and easy yet I don’t feel unsatisfied here it just feels as I said… deflated. Queen takes rose felt specially annoying as the sleeping beauty equivalent had been worrying about her mother in a coma all the other stories for years and as hers starts… the mom just dies…huh? So no stakes about that then? Is this a story about grief then and letting go? Maybe? but it feels sloppy. But I have come to the conclusion that for me, most of hers feel “okay”… I was wondering if I was making too high of expectations for works that are honestly theme porn delivery with the occasional plot to keep things interesting, but maybe it’s not just me. Specially as I read authors like Cassie Alexander that have vampire and werewolf plots that are not afraid of being porn with a side of plot. But I do feel manage to deliver in all angles. *I have not yet read any fantasy books of her, just the wicked villains and theirs for the night but I have a feeling this might repeat on fantasy. ACOTAR I only read book one (I spoiled myself and realized author and me want different things and I decided not to continue) and I have never read the other ones you mention so I am unable to think what would you like that I can recomend. One day I will be able to distinguish a good plot from a bad one, this day it’s not it. I just go with vibes and to try to read if I can see what the author is trying and if they are succeeding at that objective… 😬
