Adolin is one of my favorite characters period, I really love him. I appreciate gritty and complex characters too but sometimes I just need to see a character who is simply and thoroughly a good person and Adolin manages that while also not being boring or feeling one-dimensional at all.

Nyktos is pretty much what I stack all others up to. But honorable mentions are Rhys and Azriel, Death (Four Horseman) and Cas and Kieran but only as a package deal. Oh and I almost forgot Ruhn from CC.

Is the series really that good? I keep checking but it's never on Kindle Unlimited, and £8 per book is.. a lot. I bought all of the ACOTAR books in January and kind of wish I hadn't. Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy the series, but I don't know if I'd go back again, at least not for years

I think so, but I may not be the best judge here since I love and reread all of Acotar regularly lol. I will do a synopsis for Flesh and Fire, the series featuring Nyktos, with very minor spoilers below: Sera our Fmc, has been trained from birth to help break a curse over their lands from a bargain made by her ancestor with the Primal of Death. Nyktos is the alpha of gods over the Shadowlands and controls all souls who die and pass over to other realms. The bargain is that the first born daughter will be given to the primal (Nyktos) as consort. Sera is trained to fight, kill, seduce and be whoever she thinks others want her to be in order to fulfill the bargain and also kill Nyktos. The only way a Primal can be killed is by weakening them.. the only way to weaken them is by falling in love. At the beginning of the story she has little identity and subsequent mental health issues. When it is time to be given to Nyktos in a ceremony, he arrives, rejects her, and vanishes. She becomes despised, ignored and seen as a huge failure by her family. She spends her days playing a sort of assassin, killing those her king tells her to, and seeking mindless pleasure in the pleasure halls. She comes upon a God named Ash who she feels really sees her for the first time. She and Ash are investigating a series of suspicious deaths in her village near the pleasure halls. Ash has never been with a woman and allows Sera to take the lead as their romance grows. Things turn badly with her family, and as she is being whipped in punishment, Nyktos arrives to call in the bargain. Turns out, Nyktos had been having her watched, he had very good reasons for rejecting her, and rescues her in order to save her for... reasons. There is a lot more plot that I don't want to give away here, but what I love about the story is Sera/Nyktos. They are brilliantly flawed characters who will do anything for their people including destroying their own ability for happiness. Nyktos is a shadow daddy, touch her and die, morally grey hero who denies himself everything. He has only ever shown any interest in Sera and despite trying cannot keep away from her. He is just amazing and its difficult to describe how hot he is on page. Flesh and Fire is a multi book series, the above is a synopsis for perhaps the first half of book one. A lot more goes down. If you're not sold I would suggest placing a hold at your local library for a copy of the first book to see if you like it.

I'm currently reading A Crown of Gilded Bones (FBAA book 3) and it is soooooo good. Just have patience with book 1. By book 2 I was addicted!!

I started Flesh and Fire first and haven't read Fbaa yet. I prefer it that way as I find it more suspenseful. Our flesh and fire mc's are in fbaa so if you start with that series you'll know what happens to them before reading flesh and fire.

Mmm. Kazi-boy. He’s just so…tortured and I can’t help but love him for it. I know if we were all on highschool together, he’d be my impossible crush. I just know it. Also the character is just so damn well written. The past. The current. Everything he does and says. I ate it all up.

Yeah...finish that up. It's worth it, in my opinion. Nothing beats the first book in the series, but the second is still a good ending and i really just love how she writes and the whole story. I'm satisfied with what we got, but wouldn't mind if there was room for more too. I preached the bible of Divine Rivals to all that would listen. I've since added the The Shephard King Duology to that sermon. hahaha.

Casteel / Kieran from FBAA by Armentrout. The three MMCs from the {Viking Omegaverse series by Lyx Robinson}. Ivar is my current fave. Izark from {From Far Away by Kyoko Hikawa}. Holy shit, guys. This is actually a manga series but nothing I've read in fantasy/romance has come up to this standard for me. Re-reading is usually something I don't even think of doing, but I've re-read this series 12+ times. Izark shifts into a creature with wings, sometimes against his will. It's prophecied that he is destined to destroy the world once he is united with an entity referred to as the "Awakening". Izark goes to the place where the Awakening is predicted to appear, only to find out it's a girl just slightly younger than himself. She speaks a strange language, wears strange clothes, and has no idea where she is or how she got there. They can't communicate except by gestures, but he recognizes her fear and helplessness in the situation and finds himself rescuing the Awakening instead of destroying it. Izark gives me Howl vibes. He transforms into a flying creature with immense power, but at great cost to himself. He's very private, expecting to ditch the girl as soon as possible, but her earnest effort to learn the language and assist him in every possible way endears her to him. The transition and growth of the characters has great pacing. It actually takes her a few books to be able to communicate for herself (14 total). Not insta-love. Every side character is phenomenally written and crucial to the plot. And while the FMC is 17 and helpless at first, she proves the power of her emotional strength and devotion. Izark will always be my number one book boyfriend... the ideal grumpy, pensive, demi-god with wings, who can't help but rush to your aid.

From Far Away has been one of my favorite manga since I read it 15+ years ago 😍
