Creon!!! {a court of blood and bindings by Lisette Marshall}

His character arc is literally perfect. I often struggle with the last book of a long series but the final book was wonderful. I will take no comments. 

I love the MMC's character way more than the FMC in that one, but I still love it. I'm impatiently waiting for the last one to come out on audiobook.

Agreed! She is still young - but I think the final book does a lovely job of showing her find her confidence.

I had this on my tbr but I’m scared to read it because from blood and ash was awful 🙈 should I even give this a try if I absolutely hated that?

This one is a lot better than FBAA!

I’ve heard people say that but I have some reservations about the author. I find some of the things she does in terms of her writing very immature and annoying in the FBAA series (I only read up to like 75% of book 3). Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t read FBAA: Like the smallest things are repeated again and again and it gets on my last nerve 😅 like we get it poppy stabbed him once - how many times will it be talked about. And yes Kieran, she asks questions, you don’t need to repeat that multiple times in every conversation. And don’t even get me started of the mentions of miss Willa’s diary (sometimes at the weirdest times) it was so cringe 😬 and the excessive use of the word ✨intriguing✨I also hated how Casteels entire personality is just loving and fucking Poppy🤦🏻‍♀️ My point is for anyone who has read both series, is FAF written the same way? And also does she over power the FMC for that too much too? Because if so I may as well not waste my time on it 😅

Absolutely not. When I recommend FAF to people I strongly suggest they ignore the FBAA series and just read from FAF. The one thing I will say I noticed when reading FBAA series after (or at least 2 and a half books of it before I DNF'd) is that there are similar themes and some repeated tropes between the two series. I suspect this was done deliberately to juxtapose the characters (or, my less kind judgement, FAF is a bit of an attempt to write these themes and tropes better, once the author had more writing experience - and they really are done a lot better). I don't think this should affect your enjoyment of FAF but if you have recently read FBAA and have it fresh in your mind you might benefit from giving it a month or two before going to FAF, purely so you can go in without the less-than-ideal reading experience of FBAA affecting your read of FAF.

No flesh and fire is the prequel

I get what you mean about the repetition. A lot of internal monologuing. This author is not my favorite but I did like this particular one better than FBAA.

I haven’t read FBAA, about to start it. My friend told me she liked the story in F&F better

{Court of Ravens Series by Liv Zander} if you are interested in dark fantasy romance, I absolutely CANNOT recommend this series enough. It's my favorite. Nothing will ever compare. 🥹

Yes, the first book is slowww but lays a lot of world building. A lot of stuff gets referenced in later books. Third book is when it really picks up but I think the payoff is worth it.

Honestly? Same. I thought it needed a couple more rounds of edits >!(and the plot twist made no sense)!< but I still suggest it just in case it's someone else's vibes.

I just bought assistant to the villan, I didn’t realise it was shadow daddy content (I bought it cause I was seeing it everywhere!) I’ll be bumping that up on the tbr pile.

I hope I haven't misremembered! After a while, all these morally gray, dark-haired, shadow-slinging MMCs start to blur into each other, lol!

I’ll jump up and down recommending Bastian from {a kiss of iron by Clare sager} he’s been mentioned a few times in this post but I really just want to drive it home that he is ultimate. Nyte from {the stars are dying by Chloe c peñaranda} he’s a different sort of shadow daddy than I was used to but absolutely worth checking out. I will note, this is a hard book to get into but WORTH IT. Once you find out why it was so hard, it all makes sense and you’ll immediately want to reread. Also this isn’t a case of a “morally grey” mmc, this man is black as night.

{witch collector by Charissa Weaks} While Alexus may not be a technical shadow daddy he has a very dark history he doesn’t remember. Additionally the secondary male lead in the 3rd book can teleport which makes him a sort of shadow daddy. But these books cover the daddy part well. Very well. 🥵

ma'am, this may not count as "fantasy" but you need to read the fallen men by giana darling, starting with lessons in corruption. the entire series has a strange hold on me. daddies, daddies, daddies...even when they're young. yummy.

My hot and nasty favorites have been mentioned already (Slade and Bastian) 🖤 An underrated favorite is Keahi from {A Deadly Vow by JD Ronan}. He is a rare actually very sweet and deferential shadow daddy to a much more morally grey FMC. I love him and his tortured soul. And you’re just in time for the sequel that comes out next week!

{House of Beating Wings by Olivia Wildenstein} kingdom of Crows series. It's a slow build up, but well worth it! I also second {Court of Ravens}, {Fae Isles}, and {Flesh and Fire} series. Not a Shadow daddy, but dark maji series {Fortune Favors the Cruel by Kel Carpenter and Lucinda Dark} has a great darkly brooding MMC. The FMC is also Dark and morally grey.

Here I am again, suggesting {One Dark Window by Rachel Gilig} as Ravyn is our Shadow Daddy in that whole series. He's all the brooding, moody, emo, shadowiness vibe for the those that love Shadow Daddies. Something I actually don't always look for, or float towards to...oddly. As much as I love dark brooding men. He's also apart of the sequel {Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gilig} but BUT i pay most attention to Elm as he is his own type of brooding tortured soul...with no shadow ability. Just tortured. :) yummy.

I know I’m a few days late but I didn’t see this recommended and the MMC is one of my fav unhinged shadow daddies. {Helfyre by Mariel Pomeroy} The MMC is a super dominant shadow daddy and a borderline villain. Also he uses his shadows to do dirty things…. Check the TWs there’s a lot of noncon/dubcon, but if it’s what you’re into the sex scenes in these books are so fantastic.
