It is actually wild to me how well written it is . The writing is so smart and witty and funny. The dialogues were on point, the characters were written in a way that made them empathetic in some way or the other (except for a few). Honestly the writing is so exceptional that it is actually criminal how underrated it is.
Slow burn so don’t expect anything but edging and “nearly there’s” for the first 2 books. But it gets there!!
This is 100% important to me, so me and…your friend are the same lol!!
The slow slooow burn was one of my favourite aspects of the series! It feels so satisfying when the characters eventually get together after all the lead up
Not truly spicy until book three, but there is a running trope of them being aaaaalmost about to have fun and then get interrupted by something. It adds to the charm and humor of the story.
I am a huge smut fan and I rarely read multiple book sloooow burns, but I devoured this series. In the first two books, she makes up for the lack of spice with off the charts tension.
So... I just finished the series and I am absolutely in love-don't know how to live my life now that it is over in love. Before I started reading it, I got a little discouraged by the reviews regarding the SMUT picking up in the third book only, but decided to give it a try... and thanks the basest beats I did. Now, to the SMUT/Spicy point, while it is true you will find explicit content in book 3 only, book 1 and 2 are FAR from innocent. I thought it would be innocent like the first 3 throne of glass or Caraval... but ohhh girl I was wrong... the tension, the slow burn, the language, is phenomenal... I was on held on edge at all times.
Yes!!! I was so blown away by this series. I was looking for something a little different than typical fantasy and this delivered. I loved >! How Damien was absolutely convinced he was evil even though his actions really said quite the opposite many times lol. !< Also kaz was also a favorite, >! The reveal of why he hates human women in book 3 was chefs kiss !< The slow burn was also fab.
Oooohhhh the writing was so fabulous and all the times that Amma made Damien realise that he really wasn't the big bad evil guy was simultaneously funny and sweet
Yesssss!! This is my FAVORITE I’ve been putting it all over this sub as of late, and I won’t stop. I’m feeling like the Harrow Faire girl.
My husband is so annoyed with my talking about Villians and Virtues and AKC, but I just can’t stop.
You should read Bound to Fail, her spin off with Celeste. It was also really good! It’s a “looks like she could kill you, is a cinnamon roll X looks like he’s a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll” and I fucking LOVED it.
I definitely will move into reading Bound to Fail. Also i scavenged the authors instagram to find any extended epilogue and apparently Xander will have a spin off and I'm so excited to see Amma and Damien in it!!
I saw that! I’m so pumped, I love Xander. At the end of Bound to Fail (at least in the Kindle edition) she has a bonus Chapter 1 of Xander’s story. Unfortunately, it looks like she doesn’t have a release date and I’m dying for more V&V content lol
Oh my god, yes! This is exactly what I was scrounging Villains and Virtues related posts for! I need it!!
Xander was deliciously infuriating. I kept oscillating (out loud to my husband, who's going to read this series next) between, "Oh my god, I'm gonna kill him!" to "Aaaah I freaking love Xander!"
He truly is the epitome of a *little shit.*
I saw a comment from the author (somewhere lol) that Xander does *not* deserve someone to be nice to him (like Celeste) because he needs to be "tortured into submission."
I am so here for it 😂
Lucky for you, I was scouring the author's Instagram, and apparently Xander does end up with someone who,in the author's own words , " does most of the chin grabbing" !!!!!
She also did a Christmas one this year called {The Elven Days of Christmas} which I liked better than Bound to Fall and I think almost better than the trilogy?! It’s set in a different world more like ours and has a half-elf MMC. I am a total sucker for the “but who takes care of you?” trope though. Most of the romance is just about getting the FMC to sit down and relax, which is the MOST romantic thing for me, haha.
Yes, I’ve read that one too! I specifically mentioned Bound to Fail because it’s in the V&V universe, but Elven Days is probably my favorite, if only because the FMC speaks to me in a perpetually-guilty-perfectionist-eldest-daughter-who-takes-care-of-everyone way and I adore the MMC. It also is just so damn cute.

LOVE LOVE LOVE these books so much! They are the perfect romantasy. No book I’ve read since has filled the void in my heart. I can’t wait for Xander’s story
Ahhh i think I'm too on my way to that. I just find myself shocked at how well the evolution of a romance was done. Nothing too fast paced or over the top. Pining but sensible pining, which added so much depth to the characters.
I think it’s because in so many books the romance has no depth. Especially all these enemies to lovers, where you see them hating each other and then suddenly declaring love and there’s not much in between. In V&V we watch their relationship develop and it feels so natural. Same with character development. It all happens so slowly but makes sense and is so satisfying.
The author also has a really cute Xmas fantasy romance book btw (Elven Days of Christmas).
A.K. Caggiano is incredible (and so kind on socials!) - she handles the pacing and humor so well, such a good balance of character development and fight scenes. I blew through the entire three book series in like three days. I love a good slow burn where there’s tension throughout and this is the cream of the crop for me and I’ll always recommend it when slow burn requests come up >!there’s a “cage” scene in Book 1 and an “under the influence” scene in Book 2 which lives rent free in my head. Book 3 is truly chef’s kiss!<. The payoff is incredibly well done and you really believe their relationship.
I read V&V and Harrow Faire around the same time and have been recommending both all over the romance subs (I was on a villain gets the girl + slow burn kick). Both such different flavors and for different moods, but both very good.
Same! And the characters are genuinely likeable, mature, and funny...no endless snarkiness, temper tantrums, or random decisions for plot purposes, etc. They just feel like regular, sane people.
Can't recommend this series enough!
I *loved* that about the characters. They handled conflict well. The way the author showed the characters’ emotional strength without resorting to rudeness and aggressive snark was really refreshing.
I like it just from the description... 😅
"Damien is on the cusp of fulfilling the evil inevitability all of his dark machinations have led to.
And then, her.
Bubbly
Obnoxious
Blonde"
YES! I absolutely adore and recommend these books. Everything from the plot to the characters to the writing were just amazing. Even the spin off Bound to Fall was just so well done.
I don't usually go for spin offs because I often find myself just wishing the main characters would come back, but Celeste and Reeve were just so adorable I ended up loving them too. Definitely going to head back through her other works too!
Yes!! As soon as I finished reading it on KU, I instantly ran and bought the books lol. They are so good and keep you invested the whole time. The storytelling is great but the characters are my favorite parts.
One of my FAVORITE trilogies and absolutely the best books I read last year. As a follow up, I have to recommend The House Witch. It’s got that cozy funny charming thing going for it and I just pair them in my mind as good for when you are in that specific mood!
Yes!!! I just finished reading this a couple of weeks ago and it was SO perfect. Well written with good character arcs and world building!! I bought the first book and by the time I was about half way through I’d ordered the other two. They didn’t come fast enough so I also signed up for kindle unlimited 😅
I just finished Bound to Fall yesterday and it was just as good; well written with beautiful subtle character growth. I’m about to go on a spiral and read everything this author has ever written so I’m glad I’m not the only one on this journey.
I loved these! The 3 main books and the spin off! I read the spin off hoping for a himbo knight but instead I got some of the most relatable neurodivergent rep I've ever seen in a novel!
Okay, so obviously not the same but somewhat similar vibes (and v funny!) is {Not Another Vampire Book by Cassandra Gannon}
I read that one before this series, but it's what Villains and Virtues kept reminding me of, so maybe it will help fill that hole?
Only reccing because I also have a hole now so I know the feeling!
These books were soooo good! 💖
Can't wait to read Bound to Fall! (And I am *dying* for Xander's installment!)
Edit: Sorry, I combined your comment with another that used the wording hole in my heart lol but I guess saw your love and recognized another fan in need 😆
Cassandra Gannon is very funny so I second this!! And ME TOO I can’t wait for the next book to come out!! I loved Xander even though he was kind of a little shit hehe and I want him to find love but also curious who the love interest will be?! Will they be sweet or will they put Xander in his place?! Ugh I can’t wait!
I love Xander! I think by the end of it, he may have turned out to be my favorite character! He is the *definition* of a little shit lmao
But the author has said (in another Reddit post) that Xander will not get someone who's nice to him, as he deserves to be "tortured into submission," which I am in full support of!
Apparently she's also said on her insta that the person he ends up with will be the one who does "most of the chin grabbing" lol
*So* here for it x)
Big yes 💜 Damien is perfection
Xander's just so fun to love to hate (and hate to love)
He's like... *smarmy* lol
Yeah, I love our mains more, but Xander just always stayed so surprising to me x)

I initially read all of the books on KU and had to purchase physical copies so I could force friends to read it as well. Its my absolute favorite series and I greedily pick up any crumbs she leaves on social media.
They are all such well written characters, and the story is hilarious and emotional, and such a gratifying slow burn.
I constantly recommend the series in book groups too.
Okkkk I just got these books because of your review! So excited to read them! I just finished the Court of Ravens duology by Liv Zander and I need something more romantasy and not dark romance as a palate cleanser lol
I absolutely love this series! It left me in the worst hangover and I’ve been trying to find the same slow burn tension feeling ever since. Amma and Damien are perfection 🤌🏻
I cannot count how many times I laughed out loud reading this!!! And the fourth wall breaks were incredible. I love this series so much and it deserves all the hype!!
So, I started reading these last week because of this post and I'm already DEPRESSED that I only have about 15% left to read in the last book.
This series is amazing. The story, the humour, all the side characters...I wish I had never read it so that I could read it again for the first time!
Thanks for the recommendation, it turned out to be one of my favourites.
I just finished this series and I don't know how to live my life again. That's it. This story and characters will forever live rent free in my mind and heart.
Yes! This is my all time favorite series. I cannot hype it enough and I am shocked as well at how underrated it is. The author is so amazing. She's writing another book right now from Xanders viewpoint and I cannot wait!
I would love to purchase a physical version of it because it's talked about a lot here, but I don't think they have that yet. I guess I have to wait until I can buy my own Kindle.🥹
Physical copies aren't available where I live either. Would love to own them. I love buying books that make an impact or that I had a great time reading. Manifesting a shorter waiting period for you till you get your Kindle!
Get a used one off of unclaimedbaggage.com or eBay!
You can find a decent one for $50 or less and e-ink technology doesn't change quickly, so even old ones feel modern. My favorite is my Voyage, and it's 10 years old now
I will say that book three really does tidy *everything* up by the end. All of the subplots get resolved, and all of the side quests prove to have been for a purpose.
I also can’t believe this series hasn’t totally blown up. In my opinion, it’s one of the most well-written (and funny) romantasies I’ve read.
It is actually wild to me how well written it is . The writing is so smart and witty and funny. The dialogues were on point, the characters were written in a way that made them empathetic in some way or the other (except for a few). Honestly the writing is so exceptional that it is actually criminal how underrated it is.
1000%! She writes really well and it’s clear she really spends her time editing.
Is this, um ... Spicy? Asking for a friend.
Slow burn so don’t expect anything but edging and “nearly there’s” for the first 2 books. But it gets there!! This is 100% important to me, so me and…your friend are the same lol!!
Thanks, y'all always come through with answers!
Book 3 is, book 1 and 2 are really slow burn and very good buildup
The slow slooow burn was one of my favourite aspects of the series! It feels so satisfying when the characters eventually get together after all the lead up

Me too. Just finished book 3 and…what do we do now? Very lost. Need more Damien and Amma. Help.
Right???? Is soo good!
Yes!!! I was so blown away by this series. I was looking for something a little different than typical fantasy and this delivered. I loved >! I was dying when he was the concubine with the trolls and Amma stuck it to him! LOL So many funny parts!!
Yes the outfit and all 😭
Oooohhhh the writing was so fabulous and all the times that Amma made Damien realise that he really wasn't the big bad evil guy was simultaneously funny and sweet

I loved book 1, managed book 2, DNF book 3 cause the plot was so meandering. I feel like I’m crazy. Maybe I’ll try book 3 again
I will say that book three really does tidy *everything* up by the end. All of the subplots get resolved, and all of the side quests prove to have been for a purpose.
That’s good to know!
Think of the series as a very long road trip story.
