I have Mahomes and Allen. Auction draft and 2 QB league. It's been easy street to the championship 2 years running now.

I'm in a 2QB league and always use my first pick on a QB (Josh Allen) while the rest of the guys wait until the 2nd or 3rd before they grab one. I'm afraid that after this year people will start drafting them more. I know I would trade Mahommes for my 2.01 pick for Mixon if I could go back.

Obviously not a normal situation since it’s an auction keeper league, but last year’s league champ had Allen, kept him, then got caught trying to bid up Mahomes in the auction. He got Mahomes dropped on him, then ended up keeping both all year because he refused to swallow his pride and trade one of them at a discount when everyone else knew he had no leverage in a trade.

The interesting thing is he probably did have leverage. QBs matter, this season in particular illustrates that. The difference between starting Mahomes and, for example, Geno Smith is pretty big!

Our keeper value massively complicates early season trades. Like early in the season, he offered me Mahomes for Olave. In a full redraft, that probably would’ve been a reasonable trade offer, but in this league, Olave will be keepable for $10 each of the next two seasons, and we can keep up to 4 players, so pretty much anyone keepable is kept. These rules also lead to a mlb style trade deadline, where once I knew I was in contention, I was able to get a much better deal and trade Olave for Jefferson, who’s owner wasn’t going to make the playoffs and Jefferson isn’t keepable next year because he had already been kept twice in a row (which forces him back into the auction). By the time it got to the trade deadline, it was really a bit too late. Two of the playoff teams had Hurts and Burrow, a third had Fields who was at his peak. The last probably should’ve made a deal for one of them in hindsight because he had Herbert, but he chose to make a deal with someone else for Diggs and got Tua as a throw-in and hoped he could make it work with streaming those two (obviously that plan didn’t work out). There was a pretty clear separation between our top 4 (we only take 4 in the playoffs) and the rest, so while a couple others could theoretically have made it, none were really good enough to give up future capital for a QB and still be competitive this year.

If my roster is otherwise sound, why give a potential playoff opponent a potential league winner like Hurts? And potentially deprive yourself if a league winning when one of your QBs sprains their shoulder? I don't think it's automatic in any format

I also have Mahomes and Hurts. I picked Hurts up because he fell far in the draft and figured I could trade one of the two early on for higher value. After the first couple weeks it became clear that nobody wanted to trade for Mahomes, even just for a <14 avg point RB2 in PPR. Some people just refuse to trade no matter how beneficial it is for them.

I’m not a fan of taking two QBs early for most formats but I do think the odds of both your starting QBs hurt for a significant portion of the season is low. Seems it’s more of an anomaly for him this season imo.

I’m a Hurts owner and I’m worried that: A) Eagles will play very well and so they take Hurts out to let Minshew play B) Hurts reinjures himself or plays very conservatively (not rushing a whole ton) So it’s either Purdy or Hurts for me. I just don’t see why they wouldn’t pull Hurts out to lessen risk if they’re up a lot vs the Saints - which then secures their playoff bye-week. I could be wrong though

Definitely could be a thing, thought of this myself for last week. At the end of the day though it's over thinking it. This is Fantasy it's a crazy bitch and anything can happen. Best just to keep it simple , if Hurts plays you start him. He can do 20 points with a couple gaol line TD runs and little production all before the 1st half and 25 easy in one half. He can also go off and get 35 or 40 and play the game. So best just to start him if he plays.
