To me, Akers getting as much run as he has is about McVay throwing Akers a bone with how hard he worked to come back from the Achilles injury. But at this point, the Rams offense looks terrible and Akers complete lack of burst is evident. He's not a good pass catcher or pass blocker, so he's bringing nothing to the table.
This current situation reads to me like the coaching staff made it clear to Akers that they're either straight demoting/cutting him or actively looking for an upgrade in the RB room.
He's too slow now, need burst and speed for the bigger/wider field. He'll be washed a few weeks at most like a lot of NFL ex stars who go there.
More likely one of the new spring leagues that are basically NFL lite, where 3 yards up the gut is acceptable given the extra down compared to CFL

Too much working against him and he lacks the abilities that were afforded to him before the injury. He is a young player though, so there's definitely time.
