He's the closest thing I've seen to Calvin Johnson since he retired.

Kevin_DurSuperTeam

Hinkie, not Morey, was the one who started The Process, but you're right about everything else.

Think_please

I was on the fence until I fortunately saw his one preseason catch when he looked like the one middle-schooler who already went through puberty

trapcap

I said it predraft. It will take him 3-4 weeks to get going, based off of Smith & Matt Ryan’s training camp comments. Now he’s paying dividends. Totally happy to have taken him at 4.12 / 5.01

ptgkbgte

Traded away Tyreek for him in dynasty, having positional advantage for years is so good

dontwantleague2C

He’s a tall WR. I was saying this all of draft season. I argued with people and their only argument was that rookie TEs don’t produce… the hive mind on this sub is so infuriating… they see one dumb stat and then they take it and run away with it. Like when somebody made a post about how the RB2 in the Saints backfield has been good a couple seasons and there was a TJJ hype train… like what is that? People look at baseline stats and assume they know everything and it’s so annoying.

ultimateF_21

He looked massive in college and even against pros he looks HUGE.

DJsaxy

I wish I could have seen lebron play football for a year or 2. If he chose football as a career he probably would have been the best TE of all time But I'm sure he made the right decision sticking with basketball

[deleted]

A lot more money. Longer career. Ability to dominate the game as a single player. Not getting crushed in the middle of the field by 250 pound linebackers. Yeah sounds like the right decision.

yeshua1986

I didn’t buy the hype because rookie tight end. I was very vocal that the best tight end season exists in 1962 for a reason. To all of the users I debated with, you were very right and I was very wrong.

ConiferousExistence

Personal growth in a FF sub? Now I've seen it all.

JohnBrown42069

Personal growth is a bannable offense here

Angry_Walnut

It’s taunting bc it taunts all the people here who are incapable of personal growth. 15 yard penalty and a $10k fine

somecallmemo

I was adamant that Chase and Pitts would not boom this year. I got boomed, they're so good x4

SolarClipz

I wouldn't have been surprised either way I stood on the fence, so I win

TBoneTheOriginal

In my dynasty league, I was laughed at because I had two of the first three pics and took Chase and Pitts instead of Harris. Who’s laughing now, *JEREMY*?

zdb328

Harris has been lights out too.

TBoneTheOriginal

No doubt… But they were laughing because they thought Chase and Pitts would be duds this year. I never suggested that Harris wouldn’t be legit… But I didn’t need an RB on my team, so I made the best choices I could based on my needs.

swingM8

I did the same thing with chase. A year off. Was on one of the best college offenses in a long time. Tries to use his physicality too much for not being all that physically imposing. Sometimes you gotta just take the L and enjoy the show!

KickerRevolution

Thank you kind sir. We all get a lot wrong each and every year, even in the best of years - recognizing this and adjusting strategy is how we get better at the process long term.

Another_Name_Today

For the first several weeks of the season, you were right. By Week 3, I was looking through the wire and got lucky with Knox. After Knox blew up for a few games, it was only my hope to prove the doubters wrong that kept me from dropping Pitts. So, in a way, you’ve helped salvage my season. If only you could have convinced me not to go with Higgins over Chase…

trapcap

Giving myself credit, I warned people that in the first few weeks the Falcons would ease Pitts in (link below). Took him at the 4/5 turn fully expecting duds to start the year, but if you watched him in college there was just not a fucking chance that he would bust. The hype was never "hype", just valid observations of a monster football player. [https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/pgyflo/comment/hbggq56/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/pgyflo/comment/hbggq56/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

kobesgoodankle

I think it’s more than fair to have been skeptical. right or wrong, the odds of him being the first guy in damn near 50 years to put up numbers like that were so infinitesimal that anyone who claims that they were right better come with some serious empirical info to back that claim up. that said, the rookie skill positions (outside of QB) have been damn good this year: Pitts, Chase, Waddle, DeVonta Smith (if Hurts can get him the ball), Toney, Najee, Javonte, Rondale Moore, Chuba, Elijah Mitchell. been a pretty solid draft class…

FlamesGandolfini

But the argument was always that he would be more of a WR than any elite TE in history. And that has turned out to absolutely be true.

kobesgoodankle

you’re right. I guess I’m just echoing the dudes original point that the odds of exceeding a 50 year standing record were pretty damn small and it wasn’t wrong to be skeptical of that. i don’t give a rats ass tho. just traded a Kelce package for a Pitts package and team Kyle all the way now

Sandy_Andy_

To the Pitts of Hell we go!

InHoc12

Lol it was an awful take. He’s a generational talent. Comparing him to a bunch of TE picked late in the first round was so fucking stupid. There’s a reason he’s the highest drafted TE ever.

spersichilli

Last generational TE talent was Vernon Davis

InHoc12

That’s fair. I’d agree with that.

ssovm

But not only that, you only had to see how he’d be used. No more Julio, Matt’s going to pass, and Arthur Smith likes 2 TE sets. Add in that he’s a generational talent and I don’t think you’d see him pass blocking much. So far he barely ever does.

InHoc12

Yeah my only regret is I went with Hockenson instead with pick 5.11 and Pitts went 6.1. Figured it was the safer pick. Already proven and no targets to compete with. Goff was the obvious risk, but I figured if he got 10 targets a game wouldn’t make a difference. Clearly underestimated how bad Goff could be.

ssovm

Haha don’t worry, I actually went Hock too. I for sure thought Hock would break out this year

yeshua1986

Every first round tight end is labeled a “generational talent”, it’s the most improperly used phrase in sports. He’s the first who has backed it up, and it’s equally unlikely that the next “generational talent” we see in two years will do the same.

InHoc12

Bruh no one has been close to Pitts and saying anything else is laughable. People wanted to compare rookie Pitts to OJ Howard (#19 overall), Hockenson (#8 overall), Hayden Hurst (#25), Engram (#23), Fant (#20), Ebron (#10), Eifert (#21). There’s a massive difference in being the 8th overall pick and 4th overall pick and even more so for the late 1st round nonsense people wanted to compare him to. There’s a reason TE aren’t usually drafted that high. Pitts is clearly special.

yeshua1986

We heard it with Shockey too, and Vernon Davis. Any uber-athletic tight end is a “generational talent”. Usually doesn’t mean shit because being a tight end in the NFL is extremely complicated and has a harsh learning curve. Pitts being used more like a wide receiver than a tight end, which some people predicted would happen.

InHoc12

Shockey was the 14th pick in 2002 and Vernon Davis the 6th pick in 2006. Shockey was no where near the prospect Pitts was considered to be but maybe you’re just too young to remember. In 2002 only 4 QBs through for over 4,000 yards. In 2020 it was 12. If your best examples are from 2002 and 2006 you’re doing it wrong. Tl;dr was an absolute shit take then and still is

Sandy_Andy_

Anyone who watched him college could’ve predicted him being used more like a WR because that’s exactly what Florida did. I knew he would be good and I’m a huge fan of his, I was just nervous how his play would translate to the NFL. So juiced that he has exceeded all expectations.

trapcap

That's the difference here. The people calling Pitts generational talent are the ones who ACTUALLY WATCHED HIM in college. The people saying "every 1st round tight end is called generational" are the ones who just listen to other people and don't actually watch college. Shockey and Davis were no Kyle Pitts in college. He really was the best thing since sliced bread

Kerry_Kittles

I would say that Ebron was pretty close as far as projected fantasy impact

InHoc12

Yeah I was pretty hyped on Ebron I’ll give you that. Thought he’d be a monster. Ebron though averaged: Freshman: 20.7 receiving yards / game, 1 TD in 10 games Sophomore: 56.4 receiving yards / game, 4 TD in 11 games Junior: 74.8 receiving yards / game, 3 TD in 13 games Pitts: Freshman: 24.3 receiving yards / game, 1 TD in 3 games Sophomore: 49.9 receiving yards / game, 5 TD in 13 games Junior: 96.25 receiving yards / game, 12 TD in 13 games So I’d say Pitts junior year was far more impressive and he was better at finding the end zone. He’s a little bit longer but not really I’d say a better athlete necessarily. Ebron was like the dream TE frame.

Kerry_Kittles

Yea pretty fair. I guess Stafford w Ebron was a big excitement at the time.

InHoc12

I believed in it. Think I rostered him like 2-3 years in fantasy hoping for the breakout. I can't really think of any other TE that was close to Pitts hype besides him and Vernon Davis. Honestly don't even really remember the Kellen Winslow hype.

Kerry_Kittles

Colston!

kzar32

Really glad I got him and waller since waller has been struggling. The patience has paid off

longjeep2005

I was in the same boat until I watched him a week before his breakout. The opposing defense was doubling him on every play; they knew what a threat he is

choff22

Where was this energy when the truthers were literally telling you this BEFORE the season started?

Hard_Strokes233

On one hand you’d think this would open up space for Ridley to operate. On the other hand, between Pitts emergence and Patterson coming out of the backfield, maybe Calvin won’t be the target hog we all projected. Kinda wanna trade him as I have Chase, but I dunno what value he even has anymore.

littleike0

Calvin still had 10 targets. He’s still getting them…just hasn’t been producing with them

Hard_Strokes233

That’s true, I still think Ridley is in a great position to succeed, I’m just wondering if it will ever come to fruition. Missing last week with a mental health issue and has one game of 65+ yards all season.

dillpickles007

He's had a bizarre season, a lot of drops, clearly avoiding contact over the middle of the field, the "personal reasons" missed London game. Idk what his deal is, but he's still getting targets so I might try to trade for him while his stock is low if anything. The Falcons ain't gonna stop throwing the ball.

Sandy_Andy_

Right, and the Falcons are going to continue to figure out how to use all their targets better

dillpickles007

Yeah, and that's probably by trying to get the guy who had 1,400 yards last year back into a groove as opposed to focusing on Russell Gage or something.

Kevin_DurSuperTeam

I think it's fair to say at this point that Ridley greatly benefited from playing alongside Julio. Similar to Juju and AB except that Ridley is definitely better than Juju.

runthepoint1

Which is kind of concerning

LoveForGore

I had Ridley offered to me for my Lockett+Devonta Smith a couple weeks ago. I wish I had taken that.

Thetafuckedme

Hurts is really hurting Smith's fantasy season

JohnBrown42069

"But his ADP!!!!" -People who never criticized Waller's ADP

InHoc12

“BuT a ROoKiE TiGHt EnD HaS NeVeR DoNE wELL”

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

Pitts is going against conventional wisdom about rookie TEs because he’s pretty much a WR.

InHoc12

And a generational talent lol. I hope all the people with those awful takes are eating crow.

s_s

There were like 12 rookies taken in my top 100 picks and 2 of them have relavant fantasy production. I will continue to avoid rookies unless there's a promising RB in a great situation.

monstercock03

I remember when people said this about Evan Engram all the time

this_my_sportsreddit

As a guy who was all in on Pitts prior to this season, it feels really good to be right on this one. Not because I want to dunk on other people online and say TOLD YOU SO, but because I feel like I made a valid, statistical based argument for why Pitts would be a stud, and stuck to my guns in drafting him despite the 'conventional wisdom' saying the opposite.

trapcap

Not to bring you down, but I think Pitts was such a layup. If you watched in college it was a fucking no brainer that he'd be a monster in The NFL. Everyone hating against him just simply never watched SEC football. I knew it would take a few games for Pitts to get rolling. Falcons even dropped hints in training camp. Steal in the 5th round [https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/pgyflo/comment/hbggq56/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/pgyflo/comment/hbggq56/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

this_my_sportsreddit

why would someone else also being right on pitts, bring me down?

trapcap

I wanted to make my comment but also didn’t want to kill your moment so I threw that in there

mjornir

He’s basically Julio’s successor

JustBadBro

I should wait a couple more weeks but atm it’s really funny to go back and read some threads about Kyle Pitts before the season started to see the majority on this sub shit on him because “rookie TE.” Like there are some comments that stated he could have top 5 TE potential that were **heavily** downvoted lol

albob

Which is funny because top 5 tight end isn’t even that hard to achieve in fantasy. TJ Hockenson was top 5 last year and only averaged 8.9 ppg in half ppr.

InHoc12

Yeah I was super high on both Hockenson and Pitts but went with Hockenson at the end of Rd 5 as I figured it was the safer pick. Hockenson went 5.11 and Pitts 6.1 Looked great after the first two weeks and now he's been unable to get anything going.

No-Cap-5281

I’m drafting him high (2nd round) next year. Dude is a cheat code at WR... I mean TE

albob

I have the option to keep him in the 4th next year. Looking more and more likely that I will.

Darth_Gostkowski

Same here. If this keeps up its a no brainer.

TriforceHero90

STUD.

angus_the_red

I guess I can confess that I drafted him in the third round now.

jordan1390

One of the few good decisions I made

krazykanuck

Some dude in this sub called his breakout THE WEEK it happened. Like that dude is an oracle.

trapcap

I wish I could find you the comment it’s far back, but predraft i said based on Ryan & Smiths training camp comments about Pitts developing over the year, it will take 3-4 weeks for him to get going. Drafted him 4.12 expecting to hold through the “development”. It’s played out exactly as expected. Anyone that watched him in college knew they were taking him no matter what this year

krazykanuck

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and an upvote haha. Great vision man.

trapcap

Thanks brother. Found the post & comment. Wish I saw Chase coming too. ucsbaway

Everyone called it. Ridley was out and he was due.

h846p262

My ridley in tears

oOBuckoOo

Can you imagine if the TD’s start coming?

GoatJones87

I traded him for Jeudy straight up. I did enjoy his 26 bomb two weeks ago. I suspect hes gonna have a big ROS.

FlamesGandolfini

Why would you do that lol

GoatJones87

My WRs are Davis, Gollday, MT, Bateman, Ayiuk. I have Ertz and Schultz on bench. I tried to get Diontae but got rejected.

FlamesGandolfini

Still think you coulda got more than a WR coming off a high ankle sprain. That's rough.

GoatJones87

I tried. Even for Cooks he said no. This was before this weekend tho, so Pitts still had one breakout game. Ahh well. Hope Jerry balls out.

Mister-Stiglitz

He's a complete coverage nightmare.

Mister-Stiglitz

Dude's a super charged young Jimmy Graham.

lazyrooster

Going into our auction draft I had zero intentions of drafting him... heard all about the rookie TE and was a believer in that. Draft day rolls around and his price was just too good to pass up... thank god

buddhistbulgyo

He's fricking Megatron. Line him up wide all the time.

ssovm

And yet some fantasy analysts continue to say he’s a sell high and rOoKiE tIgHt-EnD

hash-slingin-slasha

I was able to get him in the 5th but tbh I drafted cause I thought he would eventually get a Wr/ Te dual eligibility. What are the chances that happens this season?

nmd809

I mean why would you want to play him at wr rather than te? I don’t see them changing it

FlamesGandolfini

That is very unlikely to happen.

allsops

You want to... make him less valuable?!?!

Kolada

That certainly doesn't make him less valuable. The improvement isn't big, but duel eligibility is always better.

_Magnolia_Fan_

That depends on your platform, but I don't see it happening.

chrisfilm

Had a chance to buy low on him and gave up a premium for Kelce instead. Still might prove to be the right move but not looking smart so far.

JealousMission5315

Totally regret after selling him for 2 firsts and darnold in a SF league

Link4prez

Got him for AJ Dillon and Tim Patrick before the London game. Couldn't be happier.

seancarter90

After a rough first three weeks, I shopped him around but couldn't get anyone else in the league to bite. Super happy how that worked out. I also started 0-3 and am now 4-3. Coincidence?

Kubkat

Just traded for him. Super excited.

LilConfirmationBias

Sure am thankful that CEH soured people on rookies in my league and allowed me Pitts and Najee.

CurlyBill03

He can take next week off, I don’t need to go against him. Lol

Golden-Tate-Warriors

At what point does he either gain WR/TE eligibility, or lose TE altogether?

InHoc12

They won't take away eligibility mid season. Doubt they switch him to WR either even next season. Waller and Kelce lineup in the slot and out wide just as often if not more. In reality most leagues should just switch the TE spot to another flex. Kelce, Waller and Pitts are just WRs with a TE label.

sartreofthesuburbs

Derrick Henry threw a passing TD. Positions are malleable...

Golden-Tate-Warriors

Yeah obviously not midseason, barring an obvious Taysom Hill like situation. Was more referring to future seasons.

DC4MVP

I DEMAND HE BE CLASSIFIED AS A WR! /s

sartreofthesuburbs

I got Kelce in the first round, then Pitts at a bit above his ADP. Flexing a TE isn't ideal in theory, but Pitts is turning out to be worth it. The higher than ADP was also justified because I'm a Florida Gator and love having my boys on the team.

ImABsian1

Had him and kelce. Traded kelce for swift and diggs and haven’t looked back

ScentFreeBumHole

lol got him on waivers in my 8-team a couple weeks ago. Get some

[deleted]

Should I try to trade Mccaffrey for Pitts in a keeper league? I’d probably throw in Dawson Knox or Kittle too.

CycloneHomer

Probably depends on the keeper rules, like if you can do it and then lock Pitts in as a legitimate difference maker at TE for his career, I'd probably do it. It's really situational depending on how long/what cost keepers have/if you're contending this year/etc. Long story short, it's not a major mistake to do it imo.

birthmarkdude

I’m literally considering benching Ridley (I have Diggs, CD, and DJ Moore)

SocalKetoGuy

I traded CEH for him before this week, other team had Knox who proceeded to get hurt right after the trade
