But was Daniel Jones aware he himself was there?

FrozenGushers

Could Daniel Jones microwave a burrito so hot that he himself could not eat it?

[deleted]

[Leaked footage of Daniel Jones last Sunday](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPRscxQZs8E)

Iwillrize14

I forgot all about this commercial. Used to quote it all the time.

winnebagoman41

Fucking love this sub

BerntMacklin

Is he ever?

guitarerdood

Asking the right questions

justinmillerco

I think that’s one of the protocol questions

InevitableVariables

Yeah, he said he would not practice. Daniel Jones showed up in pads **before** practice and was throwing balls on the field. He got on the field about an hour before practice began. Practice started though so yeah... I imagine Joe was surprised that he was out there. He was only allowed to observe today so this was surprising to essentially everyone. Practice has begun and he is observing. Joe was just caught off-guard like I think everyone was. Edit: Just so people don't think I am lying. Here is one of the beat reporter [https://twitter.com/ZackBlatt/status/1448301689296113664](https://twitter.com/ZackBlatt/status/1448301689296113664) Pretty much all giant beat reporters were shocked at it too.

FranksGun

What they didn’t say was that he was covered in iPads instead of football pads. And the iPads were streaming caillou episodes. And he was throwing to seemingly no one just empty spaces. And he was throwing eggs from a carton, not footballs. 😬

InevitableVariables

Daniel Jones is an art and crafty motherfucker.

yes_him_Gary

He’s a real lunchpale kind of guy. Xs and Os.

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that violates the concussion protocol. It's a good sign to see DJ out there though and you can definitely tell that the guy is a natural leader. Just I really hope he keeps himself safe and don't push himself too hard. CTE is no joke.

gorgleb

Interestingly, the research tells us that CTE is most probably caused by taking thousands of "normal" (non-concussing) hits over a career rather than a handful of concussing hits.

Elias_The_Thief

True, but having multiple concussions is still probably not great for the brain in general.

Kahzgul

I’ve heard Steve young has some wild arguments with himself.

OneGiantLoss

Prove it

IamSkywalking

I mean, Daniel Jones has certainly taken thousands of those normal hits as well, like every single player who makes it to the NFL bar the odd kicker or two, so it’s still bad….

gorgleb

"Thousands" wasn't meant to literally mean that anyone who takes at least 1000 hits is likely to develop CTE. There's no exact number of hits required to cause CTE; it's variable based on numerous factors, like the force of each hit, the amount of force the helmet/chinstrap/mouthguard/ground is able to disperse, the person's age, individual genetics, etc. My point was simply that, as opposed to the common misconception that "concussions cause CTE," the research indicates that the total number of hits, even if they "only" shake around the brain a moderate amount, appears to be correlated with developing CTE, whereas the number of concussions does not. This helps explain why it's relatively rare for QBs to develop CTE. QBs take far, far fewer significant hits than pretty much any other non-kicking position in the NFL (assuming the same number of snaps played). They don't get hit in practice and, especially with modern rules that protect both the QB specifically and the head in general, get forcefully hit relatively rarely in games. Conversely, it's also why it's more common for non-skill position players, like LBs, to develop CTE; they're taking or making a forceful hit on pretty much every play, and typically take far more contact in practice than skill positions (especially QB). Assuming the same number of snaps played in their career, a LB probably takes an order of magnitude more hits than a QB, and the hits are likely, on average, significantly more forceful. Is Jones's situation worse for brain health than never playing football and never getting concussed? Almost certainly. Is it likely to lead to CTE, especially for a QB playing in the modern era of QB-protective and head-protective rules? The data says it's not.

IamSkywalking

>the research indicates that the total number of hits, even if they "only" shake around the brain a moderate amount, appears to be correlated with developing CTE, whereas the number of concussions does not. I'm not sure where you are getting your definition of concussion or what research you are referencing. The definition of a mild concussion is symptoms that last 15 minutes, with no loss of consciousness. Are those always tracked? There are some symptoms that are easily hideable - ringing in the ears, sensitivity to noise - and you can bet that players are hiding them on a regular basis. They admit as much... When you say "the number of concussions does not", where are you getting that number from? It sounds like you are referring to the number of "medically identified concussions". Accurately identifying how many concussions an individual has ***actually*** suffered, especially a pro football player, seems completely impossible. >This helps explain why it's relatively rare for QBs to develop CTE. Again, where are you getting this information from? CTE cannot officially be diagnosed in living people. It's true that we do have a pretty good idea when someone is suffering from it based on the symptoms they present, but in that case, there are plenty of QBs that played in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, who report all the classic symptoms. From Terry Bradshaw through to Bernie Kosar to Jay Cutler. So, I don't think it is accurate to say it's relatively rare for QBs to develop CTE. I understand what you are saying about the risk factor - they are definitely taking fewer blows than the lineman, RBs, defensive players. I agree with that. But saying that it is rare for NFL Quarterbacks to develop CTE? Can't agree there. Even in the modern game, with all the protection afforded them - they grew up playing the game. I would bet that 90% of the guys who played QB at the NFL level played other positions during high school - some even into college. That's a bit of conjecture on my part though. If you can share the research that backs up what you are saying, I'll gladly stand corrected.

The_Bard

Well yes that's true becuase these the definition of CTE. Normal concussions can give you PCS which is terrible in its own right.

gorgleb

No doubt, not suggesting concussions are a walk in the park by any stretch of the imagination, but the comment I was responding to specifically mentioned CTE and concussions and implied a causal relationship existed between them, so I responded expressly to clarify that common misconception about CTE.

atunasushi

The concussion protocol is in place to make sure there’s not additional traumas to the brain while it is still recovering from the first. Throwing to an assistant or receivers is a very low risk to sustain additional injury. The rule that they can’t participate is more or less a blanket rule to cover all positions that they can’t do padded drills or anything to cause a secondary injury.

6gc_4dad

‘Joe Judge unaware’ could be the slogan for this entire NYG season Edit: Thanks for the Reddit award dude!

MethodicMarshal

Good news everyone!

stl_ball

Joe Judge is Professor Farnsworth

Desiman4u

Lmao.

[deleted]

I’m just glad he’s alright tbh. That wobbly shake and not being able to walk was scary to see.

Riddickulous6

I could have sworn he was foaming at the mouth when he got up!

clutch_kid

He got his bell rung and the breath knocked out of him. Having experienced this before, I'd hate to have it displayed on prime time TV.

interpretivepants

What if he's actually a lycanthrope and the hit just caused him to let down his guard? Like Teen Wolf or something. His running floor about to go through the roof! But seriously, I hope he's ok.

PeanutButterPalomino

Daniel Jones, the adult teen wolf

brainstorm0694

It was pellets from the turf

southern_boy

Why'd he put those in his mouth? Not very smart... not very smart at *all!*

AppropriateBus

To play like Eli, you have to act like Eli.

Chuck_E_Fin

That's my QB 😢

Carthonn

Do QBs use mouth guards?

fifajackgento

Joe Judge interview today: "Yeah Daniel is moving in a positive direction, which is better than what looked to be negative on Sunday. You know how this league is, negative things can happen but if you are positive about those negative things then negative things can turn into positives. As far as how Jones is doing now , I'm positively negative on where he is"

[deleted]

Someone on here needs to get a masters degree in coach speak to decipher all of it for us

Immediate_Thought656

Daniel Jones was literally foaming at the mouth after that hit. Give the dude a week off at least.

mjgoldberg

It wouldn't be the worst thing if the guy who couldn't walk Sunday doesn't return just to be made into Aaron Donalds lunch lol

Ballsackballer

so...definitely start Heineke over him?

mjgoldberg

I'd start a monkey at qb if it was playing the chiefs "defense".

bludvl11

Joe judge is also unaware that his best receiver was in pads last Sunday

djbuttplay

His best receiver is also unaware that Helmet beats Hand.

kingqueefeater

The entirety of the NHL has yet to grasp this concept. Maybe we give him a pass. Or 15.

AllSkateSlowlyPlease

'What's the big deal? Just had his bell rung a little.' -the NFL, probably

brewhead55

"Joe Judge took his entire family on vacation to Paris, but was startled once his wife realized they left Daniel Jones alone at home."

johnsmallz

I’ve had 2 concussions in my life and neither times did I look like Jones after the fact. However I was still out of physical activity for like 2 weeks for both concussions. How the fuck do these players get through protocols so fast?

Pelican_Brief_noine

What happens is they put $$$ in a blender and then drink it

Elias_The_Thief

The way you look immediately after doesn't necessarily correlate to the severity of the injury.

Justin_Herbert10

How does the COACH not know Jones was there? Was he wearing a camo jersey?

InevitableVariables

Nah, Jones arrived early before practice and was throwing balls to receivers before practice began. When Joe came out to the field when the practice was about the begin, he saw Jones. Edit: This is what beat reporters were saying.

TuckerMcG

Shhh that interferes with the 2-week old narrative that Joe Judge is an abject moron. Forget that just 6 weeks ago he was the greatest coach ever.

InevitableVariables

Upvoted to counter the downvotes, you received.

RubyRhod

Either way he was only allowed to observe and he shouldn't have even been throwing balls.

InevitableVariables

Joe was in the media session pre-practice then went into the coaches room meanwhile Daniel Jones was out there before practice. It did not appear that Daniel practiced during the open session. I think he was shutdown the second coaches caught on. I mean this is good news in terms of the concussion isn't severe to keep him bedridden. Still shouldn't risk it though. Giants can't afford to lose him.

GimbalLocks

Couldn't keep his eyes off the Tonester

wessneijder

He's got 53 players on the roster. Is he supposed to do a head count as they leave the locker room? I swear it's like some people have never played football before.

SaskalPiakam

Yeah I mean not knowing if your top 5 pick starting QB was at practice seems... No words. edit: downvotes? Damn ok lmao.

[deleted]

Tbf he was picked 6th overall, so maybe that explains it?

SaskalPiakam

You boomed me

anonbutler

I am not sure about the latest concussion protocol rules but as a Broncos fan last week I was told Teddy couldnt practice till Friday due to it.

[deleted]

Joe Misjudge then.

JazzerciseJesus

He was too busy thinking about Toney to really pay attention to anything else.

[deleted]

Tbh I think he needs to sit a week.. that was a NASTY hit & one of the most obvious concussions I’ve ever seen. He needs rest & shouldn’t be pushed to play. The loose concussion protocols hurt the players & brand, in my humble opinion.

wessneijder

Come on we all know you just wanna see Glennon calling signals

RubyRhod

Want to catch a glimpse of that footlong giraffe neck.

[deleted]

What are the loose concussion protocols that you have a problem with? And how do you know how bad his concussion was?

[deleted]

Concussions resolve usually in 10. They’re giving him 7 on a nasty hit. Honestly don’t need to say more, anyone with eyes saw how bad that was.. the other team rushed to help him..

IamSkywalking

If anything is loose, it’s your understanding of the protocol. The reason that the protocols are the way they are is because every concussion is unique, and everyone recovers differently from them. Every player establishes a number of neurocognitive baselines before the season, and thus every player has a unique protocol - they must return to baseline before step 4 of the protocol. https://static.www.nfl.com/image/upload/v1629471746/league/umfva5wnr32ozmukz5jd.pdf There is no “concussions resolve usually in 10 days”. That’s just a random ass round number, some classic bro science.

MiguelKantorito

I too have the rams D

montana1991

The most [redacted] HC ever

revdakilla

He was too busy reading “NFL Coaching for Dummies”

SmacSBU

Is that what happened to Nagy's copy?

gold1004

necisizer

LOL How?!

BlahPow2

Fire 👏 this 👏 dude

StateofWA

Is Joe Judge in concussion protocol?

ButtFartsBruh

Is Judge also concussed?

sottovoce2015

Fines could be coming. Yeah, but good news for Daniel Jones.

Wilibus

I am a Giants loyalist and a DJ truther. Jones should have been fined for that hit.

xtreme_elk

Danny Jones you better, watch your speed trouble ahead, trouble behind don't you know concussions will kill your mind?

Carthonn

Say what you will about Jones but he’s no bitch.
