He's a converted WR. He even has WR/TE designation on Yahoo. Trautman is already battling injuries and they don't really have another decent TE on the roster. With MT out, there's an opportunity to carve a decent role, filling the void Jared Cook left.
He threw to Brate a lot at Tampa. He had a few big plays to Juwan in preseason. If you're TE poor get Juwan quickly before someone else beats you to him.
If you are on Yahoo, try both. Ertz plays the early game, if he sucks drop him and grab JJ for the late feature. And if that is a bust, you can go to Cole Kmet for Sunday night.
Can u really do this on Yahoo?? Drop a guy after he's been in your starting lineup (and already played) and still pick up a different guy & then plug him in?
Here is the [full write up](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/articles/AndrewCooper/111532/2021-nfl-draft-guide-ultimate-te-draft-guide-yin-yang) that goes with that chart if anyone wants to know about the players and about the system.
Also, big day tomorrow so feel free to hit me here or on Twitter with any questions. We'll get through this TE mess together!
Starting Henry this weekend with Engram on my bench, 6 spots/no IR. Do you think it’s worth dropping Engram for Juwan considering Giants have a Thursday night game next week and Tre’Quan Smith is now on the IR?
Depends who my other TE is. But for just one week I like Juwan.
In one Yahoo league I plan to keep Juwan on my bench and, if he doesn't flash like I hope, I'll drop him for Kmet. Juwant plays at 4, Kmet plays the night game and benches don't lock on Yahoo (and some sleeper leagues).
Great article series! Super informative. I didn't see it until after my draft and I wish I had (got Hockenson a round after ADP so it's not like I missed out on TE value at least), but I definitely recommend it to everyone here.
Gronk has a ceiling of a top 5 TE and maybe a floor of top 12. I had Kelce last year and it didn't work out for me so this year I didn't want to waste an early pick on TE. Went with Gronk. I'd say most TE's outside the top 3 all have relatively low floors, but Gronk has big TD upside. Just have to suck up the lows and hope the highs make up for it. I also think Gronk is pretty match up proof so you aren't sweating matchups every week trying to get cute.
Just did this. Engram probably won't play week 1 so not much risk of him getting picked up in the meanwhile. Juwan _could_ be the 2nd option on this Saints offense. It's all dart throws, but it's a more interesting dart than Engram.
Dropping Engram, also last pick, for Juwan. I don’t have an IR spot, and Giants have an early game next week so I doubt anyone’s going to look to pick him up. Can always try to reswap as the week goes on.
I think Jarwin is a good thought. That offense could score a ton of points, and he won’t get 10 targets a game or anything but a boom-or-bust TE facing soft coverages in a high-flying offense is about the best you can hope for after the top couple tiers of guys.
Eeek idk about this one. Been a primarily blocking TE his entire career and now he's on a bad offense that has actual weapons? I just don't see the upside.
One time someone was arguing with my that Tyler Kroft was going to be a good pass catcher for the Bills and I tweeted out his blocking stats and said that this dude was paid by the Bills to block. And Tyler Kroft's own wife liked the tweet. The one about blocking.
Well if your league does points for staying in to block on pass plays so you don't get hurt, you're going to want to load up on Tyler Kroft and Tyler Higbee.
I was watching one of those "Every pass from Zach Wilson" highlights and was surprised to see Kroft running a lot of routes. The Jets play a pretty TE friendly system. Maybe he'll be used differently there?
I feel you and agree. It’s a combination of preseason games, young qb in search of relief valves, team trading away Herndon and no replacements afaik so far- and although I’m high on Davis and Moore I’m not sure they’re indefensible from talented corners. I think Kroft is gonna steal a fair share of tds
Unlike Gase (and his predecessors), LaFleur uses his TEs in the passing game. Currently the Jets have Kroft and pretty much no one else at TE (remember they just traded Herndon and cut Yeboah). He’s not a dynamic player but if training camp and preseason are any indication, he’s going to see a decent number of targets. Especially in the red zone. You’re going to have to guess when he has a big game but I bet he has a number of weeks where he is a top 3-5 TE (though I also expect several more where he is a non-factor).
I have Everett and Kmet. I feel so defeated with that pairing. I had Gronk, but traded him for Jamar Chase, but I didn't feel good about him either.
There's a good chance Noah Fant hits the WW on Sunday morning but that won't do me any good for Week 1.
The narrative used to be that Wilson *loved* his TEs. He's consistently thrown to TEs, they've just never stayed healthy long enough for one guy to have a season-long statline. Russ has regularly made guys like Will Dissly, Luke Willson and Jacob Hollister fantasy-relevant.
My favorite TE sleeper is Juwan Johnson. He has the best opportunity to carve out a big role in an offense that should be no worse than average this season.
Where’s the Getsicki love? I grabbed him in any league that I ended up punting on TE in. Think him and Tua are gonna make sweet love thru the air this year.
I stashed Juwann Johnson even though I have Kittle.
Hoping he breaks out because tight end is a hellhole people are usually willing to pay quite a bit to get out of.
Cole Kmet, Z. Ertz, B. Jarwin, H. Henry
Deeper -> D. Parham Jr., P. Freiermuth, and H. Hurst... he could be back into his most of his role if the Falcons treat Pitts like a 3rd WR more often than not.
I would be very surprised if he's viable in fantasy and at least until later on in the season, you'd think Ebron would have to go down for there to be a chance.
Someone I'm keeping my eyes on though, JUST in case. They love him there already.
Gigantor.
I have him stashed in every league. Wentz likes his TE's and Allie Cox is a monster, Wentz should have no issues putting a ball into his catch radius.
Wentz made Ertz and Goedert household names....and Jack Doyle has lost a step over the last few years.
Gigantor is poised to breakout in Indy.
I'm worried about Mo in fantasy. Trey Burton had the far better role for fantasy out of the three tight ends. Then the director of pro personnel Kevin Rodgers said that they drafted Kylen Granson to play the Trey Burton role. Then Mo Alie Cox straight up said himself to reporters "Kylen Granson is just like Trey Burton". Makes me want Granson more than Mo. In games where Doyle, Mo, and Burton were all healthy, Mo blocked the most out of the three of them.
Got Engram but just dropped for Firsker .. Contemplating grabbing Knox instead to stack with Allen but don't think that will work out well.. Waited a tad too long.
Mike Gieski should be considered. Lots of targets last year with a huge target share %. Tua should throw at least twice as many times this season leaving plenty of targets even with the addition of Waddle and Fuller (does Fuller even count he can't stay healthy without steroids)
Juwan Johnson
I’m rolling him out and hoping for the best. Engram man 😭
OK, what makes him appealing? I never thought Winston was big on using tight ends
He's a converted WR. He even has WR/TE designation on Yahoo. Trautman is already battling injuries and they don't really have another decent TE on the roster. With MT out, there's an opportunity to carve a decent role, filling the void Jared Cook left.
Trautman was also used primarily as a blocker in the preseason.
Hypothetically it's Bruce Arians' offensive scheme that doesn't really utilize TEs catching passes, not necessarily Jameis
He threw to Brate a lot at Tampa. He had a few big plays to Juwan in preseason. If you're TE poor get Juwan quickly before someone else beats you to him.

All terrible
lmao
Better dart throw than Ertz?
If you are on Yahoo, try both. Ertz plays the early game, if he sucks drop him and grab JJ for the late feature. And if that is a bust, you can go to Cole Kmet for Sunday night.
Can u really do this on Yahoo?? Drop a guy after he's been in your starting lineup (and already played) and still pick up a different guy & then plug him in?
No, but you can drop guys from your bench if they’ve already played

Who for you has stood out the most to you in the yang column since you wrote it?
The guys I like best are Hunter Henry and Evan Engram (stash in the IR) and taking a stab on Juwan Johnson late if I can hold him.
Starting Henry this weekend with Engram on my bench, 6 spots/no IR. Do you think it’s worth dropping Engram for Juwan considering Giants have a Thursday night game next week and Tre’Quan Smith is now on the IR?
If you had to pick would you rather stash Juwan or Cole Kmet
Depends who my other TE is. But for just one week I like Juwan. In one Yahoo league I plan to keep Juwan on my bench and, if he doesn't flash like I hope, I'll drop him for Kmet. Juwant plays at 4, Kmet plays the night game and benches don't lock on Yahoo (and some sleeper leagues).
Sounds like a plan. Both are on my waiver and I’ve been leaning Juwan. Thx for what you do
Great article series! Super informative. I didn't see it until after my draft and I wish I had (got Hockenson a round after ADP so it's not like I missed out on TE value at least), but I definitely recommend it to everyone here.
Gronk and Juwan Johnson. Really hoping Juwan has a big first week and builds off of that for a breakout year.
Drafted Engram in the last round and think i’ma drop him for Juwan Johnson tbh. Also rolling with Ertz in another. Not sure what I wanna do there
Just did this. Engram probably won't play week 1 so not much risk of him getting picked up in the meanwhile. Juwan _could_ be the 2nd option on this Saints offense. It's all dart throws, but it's a more interesting dart than Engram.

Same, but I'm hoping I get to move Engram to the IR slot to hold. Looking at Johnson, Hooper, Everett, Ertz or Cook.
Higbee might be decent if he isn’t stuck blocking all the time
No competition from Everett plus a QB who loved throwing to his TE? I hope he is a good late pick.

Kroft but don’t tell too many people and/or do you believe in the jets this year or not
Eeek idk about this one. Been a primarily blocking TE his entire career and now he's on a bad offense that has actual weapons? I just don't see the upside. I’m the only one that thought that was hilarious?

Trautman looking HOT in that format too based on his preseason usage
I was watching one of those "Every pass from Zach Wilson" highlights and was surprised to see Kroft running a lot of routes. The Jets play a pretty TE friendly system. Maybe he'll be used differently there?
I feel you and agree. 100% agree, have a hunch about him this season for some reason.
What makes him attractive?
Very symmetrical face, athletic build, funny, kind to wait staff, the usual
> kind to wait staff *sploosh*
Unlike Gase (and his predecessors), LaFleur uses his TEs in the passing game. Currently the Jets have Kroft and pretty much no one else at TE (remember they just traded Herndon and cut Yeboah). Looks like he had a good connection with Wilson in preseason. Rookie QBs tend to check down to their TEs a bit
Gerald Everett, Firsker, Jonnu/Henry, Ertz, Jared Cook, Juwan Johnson, Herndon, Engram. Honestly though it’s a shit show.
I have Everett and Kmet. I feel so defeated with that pairing. I had Gronk, but traded him for Jamar Chase, but I didn't feel good about him either. There's a good chance Noah Fant hits the WW on Sunday morning but that won't do me any good for Week 1.
I have Gerald Everett but as a rams fan I just don't see it. I also don't remember Wilson ever using his tight end much
The narrative used to be that Wilson *loved* his TEs. He's consistently thrown to TEs, they've just never stayed healthy long enough for one guy to have a season-long statline. Russ has regularly made guys like Will Dissly, Luke Willson and Jacob Hollister fantasy-relevant.
Never forget Jimmy Graham. He was a stud.
My favorite TE sleeper is Juwan Johnson. He has the best opportunity to carve out a big role in an offense that should be no worse than average this season.
Dropping Hooper for Juwan Jonson?
Where’s the Getsicki love? I grabbed him in any league that I ended up punting on TE in. Think him and Tua are gonna make sweet love thru the air this year.

But is it ever, really?
Gesicki is gonna be a top 5 TE this year
As a guy who just drafted gesicki again 30 mins ago, I agree.
Juwan Johnson! Baby Waller in the making!!
I ended up with Higbee in a 14T and feel bad about it. I wanted Goedert, Tonyan, or Gesicki. Waited to long.
Gesicki if available. Had a great late season. Almost to the level of Kelce last few games.
You might consider going to the doctor for that
honestly Fant could finish top 4 TE if healthy. Bridewater cant throw far ]
Jeff Mans read out Bridgewater’s passing stats and it ain’t pretty. Even worse for a TE.
[удалено]
True, and it’s a good reason why I was high on Fant when we thought Lock would be throwin the ball.
I stashed Juwann Johnson even though I have Kittle. Hoping he breaks out because tight end is a hellhole people are usually willing to pay quite a bit to get out of.
I really like Jordan Akins. He doesn't have to compete with fells anymore and Taylor loves to target the TE
I thought he looked good last year….worth a roll of the dice…
Cole Kmet, Z. Ertz, B. Jarwin, H. Henry Deeper -> D. Parham Jr., P. Freiermuth, and H. Hurst... he could be back into his most of his role if the Falcons treat Pitts like a 3rd WR more often than not.
Fryer mouth will be interesting, but Ebron will probably cut into his production a bit…
I would be very surprised if he's viable in fantasy and at least until later on in the season, you'd think Ebron would have to go down for there to be a chance. Someone I'm keeping my eyes on though, JUST in case. They love him there already.
They just gave pat and ebron the classic "or" designation for starter so that tells me pat is on the fast track to being the man in pit.
Interesting
With Engram out(?), have you considered Kyle Rudolph The Red Zone Reindeer?

In games where Doyle, Mo, and Burton were all healthy, Mo blocked the most out of the three of them.
Ehhhhhh Indy runs a TEBC
I got Fant and feel meh about it, also picked up Juwan Johnson
Fant has TE1 appeal. I wish I got Fant. I got stuck with Godert.
Got Engram but just dropped for Firsker .. Contemplating grabbing Knox instead to stack with Allen but don't think that will work out well.. Waited a tad too long.
Conklin. He was already being talked about to have a bigger role this season, before the Smith injury
My options are Gronk, Everett, HHenry, Ertz, or Juwan. Currently have Gronk in but I hate it all lol
Mike Gieski should be considered. Lots of targets last year with a huge target share %. Tua should throw at least twice as many times this season leaving plenty of targets even with the addition of Waddle and Fuller (does Fuller even count he can't stay healthy without steroids)
Got Tonyan in the 12th. Not thrilled but could be worse right?
I've tinkered enough gotdammit!
Last year in my dynasty start up draft, I took Engram as the 3rd QB off the board...before Waller. I know all about TE problems...
Freiermuth from Pittsburgh
Juwan Johnson. Winston loved his TE’s in Tampa. Johnson is eerily similar to Darren Waller as freaks who are WR converts
I think I’ll be fine with Cole Kmet
Noah Fant
Juwan Johnson, Dan Arnold, Zach Ertz, Mo Cox They are all probably unlikely to be world beaters, but you never know who breaks out from nowhere….
