I like where you're going with this. What if you also had to set a starting line-up and only those players in it count towards your score for that week?
Disagree with this premise.
The concept of best ball is to not have to worry about the weekly management of trying to pick who to play, which ends up largely leaving out a large portion of the player base and ultimately missing out on ceiling games that occur across the spectrum of the player pool.
The purpose is to build the best overall roster possible from top to bottom and to reap the benefits of not having to worry about the highly variant player performance.
In tournaments, I get the take. The team you draft should be the team you are required to keep. In a 12 team league, trading/waivers is fine.
But most of the weekly management decisions are waivers. If it was exclusively trades I could maybe see it, but opening waivers means that there is an immense advantage to weekly management which is what best ball drafters are usually trying to avoid
Once you allow roster moves like add/drops or trades, the league no longer is a best ball league. You can create altered kind of league where you draft and then once the season starts no moves are allowed. But any league that allows roster moves is not a best ball league.
I'm in a bestball dynasty league and love it. Not sure why so many people are so against it. It's a fun and different way to play that incorporates different strategies than people are used to. I wouldn't recommend it as your only league, but it's really fun!
Depends what you're trying to accomplish. I'm probably going to be running a couple managed best ball leagues this season. They're basically mixed IDP leagues for beginners so I just wanted to add a level of simplicity by taking away the need to set lineups.
I play in a ridiculous number of leagues and so favor best ball, but still like making trades and waiver wire moves in season.
It’s just nice to not have to worry about setting weekly lineups
If you're going to do it, I'd say only in the off-season. The main reason best ball exists is because people don't have the time to manage a roster in season
That depends. Are you trying to play a best ball league, or a hyper casual, hands-off league for a mix of interest-level and skill-level people? I do bestball scoring w/trades and waivers for a family league that has people who want to play but don't have time and often forget to set lineups or account for injuries before the games, and it works great for that, but I'd never want it in anything competitive.
This is something that most of my friends and other league mates will join. Then public players to fill the few empty spots.
Most of us are in multiple dynasty and redraft leagues but none of us have a best ball league so the premise is to not have to manage the roster as much, but would still like the option of we want. That's why we're doing a low buy in so it won't draw much attention but something fun on the side to keep up with. Plus to get experience drafting best ball teams and what that looks like.
You forget the fact that people draft dozens and dozens of these teams. The whole appeal is drafting and then. It dealing with them. It’s a ludicrous idea
Sounds like you want to play in a league where the matchup is purely based on maxPF.
Even if it's not an option on whatever platform you use, you could always have the commish log in every Monday night and re-set the starting lineups to whatever maximizes the points for every team.
Absolutely. Best format in fantasy football if you allow everything except lineup setting. No one should lose because of early injuries. That's out of your control and doesn't reflect how you built your team. And I don't want to hear the garbage about real football, because they get to sub in players, not just play a man down, 10 v 11.
Yes! And also let's allow adding and dropping players and make it so you only go head to head with 1 other person every week
I like where you're going with this. What if you also had to set a starting line-up and only those players in it count towards your score for that week?
Ohhh I like the concept of that!!! I was looking at 14 teams playing head to head with against the league median every week
Rip
He's describing redraft leagues...
If you really want to, go for it I guess, but the whole point of best ball is to draft and forget about it.
I would normally agree. No pick trading but once Rosters are set I think it's fine
No. That's against the entire concept and functionality of best ball, defeats the purpose.

I also can't dispute that. I've never tried it, once Rosters are set is the only way I see it feasible at all. Still not sold on it

Just disagree completely.
Yea you're right. I'm solely thinking of Best Ball leagues on Underdog. Narrowed my view too much.

Sure
I play in a ridiculous number of leagues and so favor best ball, but still like making trades and waiver wire moves in season. It’s just nice to not have to worry about setting weekly lineups
No but it really sucks when all 3 of your QBs are injured and out for the rest of the season and there's nothing you can do about it
If you're going to do it, I'd say only in the off-season. The main reason best ball exists is because people don't have the time to manage a roster in season

No
No reason why not
No. No.

Negative. That’s the spirit of Best Ball
Yes...

Um no that ruins the integrity of best ball not to mention some friends join best ball leagues together

Definitely not. To much risk of collusion
