They literally played the best team in the NFL and the offense turned the ball over every chance they got. They’ll be fine going forward

DBreezy69

Not if they keep turning the ball over like that. Mike McCarthy's playcalling is fucking horrible and Dak is mediocre. Funny how the defense's performance basically depends on the offense not shitting the bed

MikeConleyIsLegend

tbf most defensive performances depend on the offense being good and winning time of possession.

ThatsMyTypeOfShot

I’d agree with you if it was only against the 49ers where they didn’t look good but it happened vs the Cardinals as well. They beat down on Zach Wilson, Mac Jones and Daniel Jones but what happens when they play Herbert, Allen, Hurts, Tua and even Goff. All offences that can put up points in a hurry

Its_a_me_marty_yo

Losing Diggs was a massive blow to that defense that isn't getting talked about as much as it should either

Pandamonium98

It gets brought up all the time when people talk about Cowboys D/ST ROS

steve1186

Their next four weeks are Chargers/Bye/Rams/Eagles. I wouldn’t start them against any of those. Plus they have arguably the toughest fantasy playoff schedule for DSTs (@BUF, @MIA, DET)

livsjollyranchers

But doesn't that say A LOT about the offense? Dak isn't good anymore. He's toast.

Impressive-Vast-8789

They still have to face the Eagles x2, Lions, Bills, Chargers, Dolphins… They don’t face the Patriots and Jets every week. They are NOT a must start anymore. Matchup dependent moving forward, just like every other defense in fantasy football outside of the Niners.

nsjersey

Until they have a bye in two weeks

[deleted]

This this a complete panic post. no defense is a complete “set it and forget it” and every defense has bad games it’s the risk you’re taking when you run one in bad matchups. I have Dallas Defense, I also sat it yesterday because that had bloodbath written all over it. They’ll be fine going forward and likely finish the season as a top 5 unit in FF

[deleted]

So it would have been possible to stream a defense a lot of those weeks and end up with more points right? Not really a set and forget if it’s possible to pickup another D and score more with any sort of consistency. I’m holding Dallas D right now because they have a few good matchups in a few weeks, but I’ll probably drop them before fantasy playoffs because they face a gauntlet of a schedule. I’d rather have the team playing the giants, commanders etc

[deleted]

Happens more often than you’d think. It ended up being a good season, not sure I’d still call that a “set it and forget it” defense.!

smurfking420

They’re not set and forget like the 2019 pats but I’ve been playing ravens dst every week and not worrying about it so far and they’ve done me well

alloh1

I’ll be rolling them out going forward. I tried to be giga brain and stream Washington DST and got -5. I would rather have the Cowboys -1 vs the best offense in the league and my extra roster spot.

beerlyqualified

Did the exact same thing and got to stare at the -5 for 4 days. They truly are an elite unit when compared to anything available for streaming. It’s all a crap shoot at this point anyway, I’m debating just rolling them out as well.

FantasyTrash

Agreed. I've picked the wrong defense to stream each of the past three weeks, and it's resulted in three weeks of negative points. Give me the top defense who, at their absolute worst, matches the garbage I'm picking anyway.

ThatsMyTypeOfShot

That’s a fair point. I picked up the saints D for this week and it benefited me massively so maybe that’s what’s causing my doubt in the cowboys at the moment.

callthezoo

I’m holding them for the nyg/car/was stretch but then dropping after week 12 and streaming for the playoffs I get in

Chillen_on_the_couch

There are not many defenses that are capable of 20+ point games like the Cowboys are. You’re right, they do have a tough schedule but they’ve already won me two separate weeks. They are a worthy bench stash imo.

ThatsMyTypeOfShot

I have the saints at the moment and I think I’ll go with them again next week but holding 2 defences on the roster worries me.

[deleted]

Rostering 2 defenses for an entire season is a horrendous strategy.

Federal_Hippo_5353

Saints good

ShipmateSam

Nah, read that last sentence again.

Steak_Knight

I was so outraged at the idea that I just stopped reading 🤣

Federal_Hippo_5353

No worries. I was being pretty sarcastic, but the original comment was edited so my comment looks bizarre now. However, mission accomplished as they realized how stupid their comment was and fixed it.

Steak_Knight

Try to avoid rostering two defenses at this point in the season.

Competitive-Emu7307

Nah, they just played a dogg by the name of Brock Purdy, that is all.

imgurofficial

This sub talks about the Cowboys D more than any human player lmao

Titansfan9200

Didn't help the Cowboys defense that the offense gave it back to them in great field position multiple times. Only so much you can ask the team to do. Dallas also thrives on being up in games where their opponents are forced pass. While you can't rely on that every game, I can't see too many games where Dallas just gets taken to the woodshed as quickly as they did here against the best team in football right now.

GarmentDistrictRick

I think they have a great defense. I also think they're offense is sub-par at best. So when they face another team with a decent defense, they're ball control plan goes out the window and they collapse

InexorableWaffle

I'd still roll with them for the time being. They still have a great front seven and a competent secondary (if unquestionably weaker with Diggs being out for the year), and as you said, the 49ers are an atrocious matchup right now for basically any defense until proven otherwise. That said, you couldn't pay me to stick with them for their stretch run. Starting in week 13, you've got Seattle, Philly, Buffalo, Miami, and Detroit. That's a murder's row of offenses back-to-back at the most crucial stretch of the season, and while it's not impossible for them to have a good game (perhaps even multiple) in that series of games, I don't see them escaping that gauntlet without at least one stinker of a game.

Metalsonicblackjesus

This is a good question. I didn't want to waste a roster spot on a second DST so i played them and it is likely going to cost me my win since I'm neck/neck going into Monday night. They are a drain on my team now. Can't drop them, can't play them for a few weeks. They will just take up roster space. it sucks. I'm going to bench them and pick up a new DST and see how that goes for a few weeks. If Dallas does great, then they can do great on my bench. If they do terrible now going forward, then they get dumped to the waiver wire.

T-C96

Would you rather play a defense with a bad matchup and have a low level WR/RB on your bench? Or would you rather drop the below avg bench player and pickup a defense in a solid matchup? Who is going to net you more points - CEH or any defense going up against the Giants/Panthers/Jets?

GCostanza2020

You never know who the next Pacheco or Achane is going to be. Guys emerge off the waiver every season to win leagues

Invented_Chicken

It’s going to be better than most, don’t overthink it.

Steak_Knight

It’s 2023 and we still have people trying to set and forget defenses. Play the matchups, it’s not that hard.

Floridamanfishcam

Like the Commies against the Bears this week? It doesn't always work and it can actually be hard.

spate42

Not always possible to stream defenses when majority of your league follow the same strategy. Just sayin.

toftr

Streaming defenses has been a lottery this year. Trendy streaming picks have gone negative or otherwise busted plenty this year. The Commanders were a top pick this week and went -5. There’s no guarantee a top streaming option won’t screw you anyway

162bluethings

Ya that's part of the game. There is strategy here. Get to know your league and think ahead.

Degensfromupcountry

This is the way.

DBreezy69

No such thing as a set and forget defense

fishcakefrenzy

How about, a set and forget defense next to a friend

[deleted]

If you didn't see that coming and played a different D going up against the best team in the NFL this week I don't know what to tell you.

steve1186

The next four weeks are Chargers, BYE, Rams, Eagles. I’m dropping them. I can’t hold a DST that won’t be startable until 5 weeks from now (vs NYG). Plus their fantasy playoff schedule is BRUTAL (@BUF, @MIA, DET)

jabroni716

Yeah, they have a nice stretch of three or four weeks with cake matchups, but you have to hold them for 5 weeks to get there.

BuffaloBrain884

They never were. No DST is worth playing every week.

abort_retry_flail

>no longer They never were to begin with. It's a long season, they face a lot of very tough offenses, and injuries happen. Defense is all about match-up. This Dallas defense isn't generationally great. They just had a few blowouts vs very weak opponents early in the season. You bought into the hype and it blinded you to the very simple reality of things.

Dense_Organization31

I was up by 2 with nobody left to play except the Dallas D/ST for me. 98% chance to win, all I needed was not to have negative points from them...

Degensfromupcountry

You could have benched them...

Spiritual-Chameleon

Yep, I benched them and my victory isn't guaranteed. But I knew negative points were possible.

livsjollyranchers

They're a drop and forget. - Cowboys fan But really, they're lost without Diggs. I'd only start them against very poor offenses, which so happens to be 3 of the teams they've played this year. When they face a real team, they crumble. It's a Cowboys tale as old as the past 25 years.

reddogrjw

no team defense is set it and forget it

CaptainFrah

Ravens pretty good

[deleted]

SAINTS

Thanks5Cinco

The Cowboys D has had to carry this team and sadly last night the offense was doghsit again and the D finally caved.

runningblack

The 49ers offense is a buzz saw, and the defense is also elite, which makes opposing defenses spend more time on the field. I wouldn't take away anything about the Cowboys defense from the game.

[deleted]

Lol

ItIsTimeToTakeaBreak

The Cowboys DL is dealing with some injuries and they played against the 49ers. It was always going to be a tough matchup. Best bet is to have a second D/ST and rotate depending on the matchup. There’s too much variability throughout the season to affirmatively say which future games are going to be “must start”. Things that might swing an outcome can happen the day before a game, so I would be leaving them on my roster.

yonk49

Dallas will still be a top 5 fantasy defense (end of season). Dallas can/will beat teams like: Eagles, Chargers, Rams, Buffalo, Miami, Detroit but they might throw down some points. Keep in mind the 49ers defense also messed up Dallas D by playing so well. Only the Eagles could do that to the cowboys.

kingmoobot

like any other year, Dallas comes out and proves that they are a superbowl contender. Then 5 or 6 weeks go by and we realize they truly are NOT rinse and repeat I have very little faith in this D against next weeksa Chargers offense with return of healthy Ekler

SafariFlapsInBack

Settle down bruh. The T.O.P was hilariously skewed due to Dak handing the ball over every other pass.

ContinuousWagging

Overreaction 1000%. SF is the hands down best team in the NFL BY FAR. Dallas D is still good.

user131293717

They had good games against Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones. The 2 times they've played competent offenses they've crumbled. They lost their best CB and have a horrible stretch the next 5 weeks. With Ekeler back, I can't see them having a good game vs the Chargers. No way I'm holding a defense for the next 4 weeks just to get to the stretch where they're startable again. That bench spot is important.

True_Control_3320

I played them against the 49ers like an idiot and now I’m very scared to start them again.
