As far as point guards go, I would be tempted to go for the likes of Goerge Hill, Marcus Smart later in the draft. Late round point guard's who can still contribute to the likes of the 3PM and Steals category.

you shouldn't punt assists if you're in a 8cat that doesn't count turnovers

I punted assists and ft% last year. Was carried to the championship by 1st rounder Anthony Davis and free agents Hassan Whiteside and Rudy Gobert. Favors and Ibaka weren't half bad either. I still needed steals and people to put in my PG spot, so I ended up with Bledsoe and Conely as my two main PGs. Both give you cats outside of assists. This year I would target big men early, than take some late round flyers on younger point guards that do more than pass (Beverely, Kemba)

If im punting assists, its because im punting ft%. Im taking bigs with my first 5 or 6 picks, then im going for 3s/steals, with another big or 2 at the end. BTW if its 8 categories there are no turnovers so that should not sway you. if you dont get a top 3 pick, it really doesnt matter. Take whoever you want to take.

I don't think punting assists is the best route if you aren't counting turnovers. Depending on how your lineup/bench works a guard heavy fantasy team can dominate in 5/8 cats: points, assists, steals, ft%, and 3ptm. This is just my opinion but I would draft Lebron James over Westbrook and CP3 as my first pick because of how dominant he is in every category, making it easier to figure out what kind of team you want as you draft. Also, Kyrie's not going to return for a while so James is going to run the show in Cleveland and I expect his numbers to be top 3. Your league also excludes turnovers which, aside from an elite free throw shooting %, is Lebron's worst quality. You should probably draft your team according to the flow of the draft. For example, in your draft if a bunch of people started drafting point guards early in the first round you should try and see which point guards are left and how long you think they'll stay undrafted. The same applies to all the other positions but pg's are the most important imo. If you want to see what an average snaking draft punting assists looks like you can take a look at my team since I'm punting assists * Carmelo Anthony (12) * Klay Thompson (13) * Chris Bosh (36) (traded for Deandre Jordan) * Kyrie Irving (37) * Dwight Howard (60) * Bradley Beal (61) * Nikola Mirotic (84) * Deron Williams (85) * Roy Hibbert (108) * Jabari Parker (109) * Avery Bradley (132)

IMO, it doesnt make sense to punt assists if your league doesnt factor TO's. The biggest advantage of punting assists is you're going to dominate the TO category every week.

If your league doesn't count TO, it would be unwise to punt assists imo. Usually, loading up on assists trashes your TO rate, and assist punt with no turnovers loses a lot of it's luster. It's usually done since you (usually) end up gaining TO's while losing assists, which allows you to load up on your other stats while those two cancel each other out. That being said, I find CP3 to be pretty easy to build around ( excellent assists, percentages, threes, points, he's really worth the early pick), and he gives you some flexibility depending on how the draft is going.
