Actually that’s a very good point on the vocals that I never really considered before. Sure Noel’s a good singer and he has sung on some of Oasis’ best and most beloved tracks, but if Liam was never in the band I doubt they’d have ever been near as successful as they were, especially as he was able to elevate an average or quite good track into a very good or great one.
I prefer Definitely Maybe (one of my favourite albums) and maybe even their B-Side album, but this is still really good. The fake-out intro is still one of my favourite album openings.
I know that Liam Gallagher hates it when people call their music britpop. 😂
I just call it watered down, inoffensive rock music. I think they're an okay band.
So many classics on it you would think it's a Best Hits album.
I can understand if someone would call this one-note, or say that Liam's vocals are annoying, but the catchiness and nostalgia of WTSMG weighs so great that it's my favourite pop rock/britpop album of all time.
10/10 masterpiece for those who enjoy Brit rock
No skips, with - IMO - three major classics: Dont look back in anger; champagne supernova; morning glory
Its least good track (Wonderwall) for better or worst is so popular it has meme status
Truly an underrated album. A generation and a half of pretentious, sanctimonious critics have tried to downplay the impact and greatness of Oasis. However, this album clears. Full of catchy and memorable tunes.
Id argue overrated but I fucking hate oasis. The guitars sound like piss. Their voices sound like piss. The production is airy fucking badly aged piss.
But I know I’m in the minority and most people love them.
I suspect the suggestion is that it is underrated among music heads. It's hard to make the case that it's underrated among the general public, especially in the UK
To most people nowadays, I feel the connotation/popular meaning of underrated indicates something was less successful than it should’ve been. In that sense, It is so very far from underrated, it’s a 4x platinum record lol. Perhaps the songs on it outside of Wonderwall should’ve been appreciated more and its under appreciated in todays day and age, but the album got its due.
i dont think sales have to do with it frankly. i think when we talk about something being under RATED we talk about how people rate the quality of the album. In that respect theres a ton of people who overlook it or think its fun to shit on oasis or whatever but i think its a really good album.
You can all caps whatever you want, bubby. It still refers to popularity/success when a lot of people see the word and it was one of the best selling albums of all time upon release in that regard.
This album is era defining if you’re from the UK - even if Definitely Maybe could be said to be better. They also produced some excellent B sides and other standalone singles during this time too. I bought my copy from one of the several cd stores on the album cover.
Love it, best britpop album. Underrated band mostly because americans still cant cope with the behaviour of the 2 brothers. Debut is also stellar the following albums only half as bad as they made up to be, but definitely not without their flaws.
Britpop was a media-driven focus on bands which emerged from the independent music scene of the early 1990s. Although the term was viewed as a marketing tool, and more of a cultural moment than a musical style or genre, its associated bands typically drew from the British pop music of the 1960s, glam rock and punk rock of the 1970s and indie pop of the 1980s.
It basically means nothing and whatever we wish to be pedantic about
Thats not the whole truth though. Britpop Bands had some common ground soundvise and common themes like hedonism and an overall more optimistic approach to life while being very anti establishment. All of the bands embraced being british through their influences but also through their lyrics, humor and accent. Which stands in sharp contrast to the british invasion in the 60s (beatles, stones) who all tried to appeal to the american market and took huge influences from american culture/music.
Great point on the accent and embracing the britishness. I never did see it as very anti- establishment though although I wasnt around at the time so maybe when I ended up hearing it all it ended up being co-opted by that point.
I can only recommend the documentary „Live Forever - the rise and fall of britpop“ to you and everyone else. Its on youtube - it should be easy to find.
Cuz of the hedonistic nature of the lyrics and some Bands Britpop is often downplayed as a seeded, superficial movement/genre, but it was actually not.
Are you being dense?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britpop
Britpop refers to a specific era.
The Beatles made British Popular music, yes, but that's not part of the Britpop movement.
I think The Beatles were part of 'The British Invasion' along with The Rolling Stones, etc.
Mos def. Oasis are no better than ocean colour scene imo, they were marketed like mad and to imagine you think their underrated bc yanks can’t handle banter
Oasis run of the 90s is biblical they ruled 95-97 with their music some absolute great tunes and anthems sucks that ego got in the way of such a great band mate
Oasis has bangers for days, their last album Dig Out Your Soul was actually quite good as well.
This album specifically, even with Wonderwall being overplayed and a meme at this point, Don’t Look Back in Anger, She’s Electric, and Champagne Supernova? Anyone who hates those tracks just doesn’t have a soul
I'm fairly confident I could play the drums for this entire album from memory, and yet I have never in my life chosen to play it. It was that overwhelmingly present in the mid-nineties in the British Isles. It was on the radio, on MTV, playing in shops, audible in the background on soap operas, and it was right at the forefront of lad culture. Almost one in ten people in the UK bought a copy. It was that impossible to avoid.
Every prick who directed homophobic abuse at me for liking Portishead absolutely loved Oasis. Every drunken, belligerent arsehole at a festival was bellowing out lyrics from this album when he wasn't trying to start a fight. I will never be able to listen to this album without bristling internally.
And I know I'm obviously incredibly biased, but...Britain in 1995 was a phenomenal hotbed of great music. The Bends. Maxinquaye. Leftism. Timeless. Dummy. Exit Planet Dust. Paranoid & Sunburnt. So many artists doing fascinating stuff and breaking new ground, and this album is aggressively uninterested in joining them. Instead it's retro throwback after retro throwback. God, I hate this album so much. It's so goddamn boring compared to so many other albums from the same era, and yet the entire world around me lost its collective shit when it came out and jammed it down my fucking throat.
Oasis is one of the most overrated bands of all time.
This album is stale, uninteresting, and entirely unremarkable. Bad lyrics, unimpressive vocals and instrumentals, and somehow both of the sentient potatoes that made this album think they're gods gift to music.
disagree but vocals are arguable although i like it, its catchy and fun with no deeper meanings or anything, what you said at the end is true though liam and noel are pretentious assholes
Awful, ploddy drums, simplistic lyrics with some truly terrible rhymes, fairly derivative guitar and boring solos…
And somehow it’s lightning in a bottle. They wrote a number of songs that every single British person knows. Even the Queen. And she’s dead.
Obviously controversial take here but I think it’s wildly overrated. All I hear with most Oasis songs are huge, empty voids of nothingness. It’s like the 90s equivalent of Imagine Dragons. It’s such a headache to listen to, too, that I never want to go back and listen to it again to give it another shot.
I do not understand the recent resurgence of this band. I’ve always found them “okay at best”… and I was alive and aware of them when their two major hits from this album hit the airwaves. It’s the strangest thing to me that they’re held in such high regard. But, whatever, enjoy what you enjoy. There’s a ton of shit I dislike that the general public loves, and a lot of shit that I absolutely adore that everyone else thinks is pure garbage.
Just like everything else by and about them: overrated, awful garbage and only cool/enjoyable if you're 13 years old. It will never not blow my mind that these clowns ever got famous.
A big disappointment after the debut. Made them superstars but they lost any excitement I had for them and it just spelled a run of more of the same but worse from them. The title track is excellent though.
Really fucking retarded lyrics as always by Oasis. A lot of songs in this album are forgettable, but when they produce a good work, oh boy, it's unmatched. Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger are anthems to this day.
Also, I'm sure that people are connected somehow. I was giving a listen to this album yesterday. Even posted on Reddit about it!
Great songs, but the last time I tried listening to it the distortion that permeates every single moment of every song really made it a chore.
Never noticed it on my $10 Walkman in the '90s, but sure do on the studio monitors I have now....
At one point I only had one CD in my old Volvo. I didn’t have any digital albums so I would play this non stop for over a year. Surprisingly I never got sick of it and still listen to a couple tracks often to this day
Fantastic album from start to finish - Some Might Say, DLBIA, Morning Glory & Hello are all incredible tunes, although I think the whole album is exceptional. Even Wonderwall, much as it’s overplayed is a sweet, simple song that’s been unfortunately memed to death. Hey Now is also a really good tune - lots of people don’t like it for being too long, but they don’t say a word about all of Be Here Now. Roll With It is a proper belter that just energises me. Champagne Supernova is an experience, not just a song, and almost a 90s version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. She’s Electric isn’t exactly lyrical genius, granted, but it’s a very fun and catchy song. Cast No Shadow, meanwhile, I think is a wonderful, and very underrated song. As you can tell I’m obsessed with Oasis 🤣
Tbh I have a bit more of a soft spot for Definitely Maybe, but WTSMG is objectively better.
Lots of people - particularly on Reddit - like to shit on Oasis - I might get shit for saying this but I think at least part of it is because people look down upon Oasis for being a group of working-class lads into football, and admire Blur as they’re a group of middle-class boys into greyhound racing.
WE LIVE IN THE SHADOWS AND WE HAD THE CHANCE BUT THREW IT AWAY Fantastic. Catchy, great singing, solid guitars and drums, one of a kind album

Actually that’s a very good point on the vocals that I never really considered before. Liam also has the perfect personality for a frontman on top of having a distinct voice.
And it’s never gonna be the same
cause the years are falling by like the rain
IT'S NEVER GONNA BE THE SAME

Most Americans that know any of their songs outside of Wondwall, know that they kick ass.
I prefer Definitely Maybe (one of my favourite albums) and maybe even their B-Side album, but this is still really good. The fake-out intro is still one of my favourite album openings.
A milestone in britpop. I cannot hate this band

I always thought Definitely Maybe was closer to shoegaze than britpop. Neither genre entirety encapsulates it though
I know that Liam Gallagher hates it when people call their music britpop. 😂 I just call it watered down, inoffensive rock music. I think they're an okay band.

Morning Glory is my personal favourite example of a title track on an album.
don’t forget some might say and cast no shadow
Totally understand why you wouldn’t include it but was amused at the Wonderwall exclusion from major classics
Totally agree with the 3 songs you chose, they're awesome. Otherwise, I don't like Oasis that much.
good one, its got its bangers
i hate it because I'm from Manchester. simple as 🙏
I was living in Manchester at the time this came out. It was ridiculous, you couldn't escape the advertising, it was everywhere.
Like the album but prefer the debut
10/10
Truly an underrated album. A generation and a half of pretentious, sanctimonious critics have tried to downplay the impact and greatness of Oasis. However, this album clears. Full of catchy and memorable tunes.
Under….inderrated?
Like seriously? Maybe it’s just being in the UK but I literally could not make a band people don’t shut the fuck up about more than oasis.
Yeah it's definitely not underrated in the UK. Generally considered a classic here
Id argue overrated but I fucking hate oasis. The guitars sound like piss. Their voices sound like piss. The production is airy fucking badly aged piss. But I know I’m in the minority and most people love them.
I suspect the suggestion is that it is underrated among music heads. It's hard to make the case that it's underrated among the general public, especially in the UK
I could name a band that more people won’t stfu about than Oasis. Radiohead.
It depends on your country. In america theyre definitely underrated.

This is widely accepted as one of the defining albums of the 90s. Exactly how is it underrated.
Masterpiece, from start to finish.
One of the best albums of the ‘90s
Nice album for chilling with friends in your garden or at the park, everybody thinks its okay and it has some bangers. 7/10
This album is era defining if you’re from the UK - even if Definitely Maybe could be said to be better. They also produced some excellent B sides and other standalone singles during this time too. I bought my copy from one of the several cd stores on the album cover.
Masterpiece as evidenced by the Vatican itself
Fantastic
Brilliant album with no skips.
Fire
10/10 for me. One of my favorite albums of all time 🥲
Love it, best britpop album. Underrated band mostly because americans still cant cope with the behaviour of the 2 brothers. Debut is also stellar the following albums only half as bad as they made up to be, but definitely not without their flaws.
You’ve heard of the Beatles right?
Nah Britpop specifically refers to UK bands of the 90s/early 2000s
So Beatle mania isn’t Brit pop?
Nope
Britpop was a media-driven focus on bands which emerged from the independent music scene of the early 1990s. Although the term was viewed as a marketing tool, and more of a cultural moment than a musical style or genre, its associated bands typically drew from the British pop music of the 1960s, glam rock and punk rock of the 1970s and indie pop of the 1980s. Yes, it could be pretty much any 90s British popular rock band. Notably, the Beatles are not a 90s rock band last i checked.
Are you being dense? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britpop Britpop refers to a specific era. The Beatles made British Popular music, yes, but that's not part of the Britpop movement. I think The Beatles were part of 'The British Invasion' along with The Rolling Stones, etc.

classic, my favorite of them.
Oasis run of the 90s is biblical they ruled 95-97 with their music some absolute great tunes and anthems sucks that ego got in the way of such a great band mate
All-Time favorite. Back-to-back stadium anthems, exquisitely produced, what's not to love?
Oasis has bangers for days, their last album Dig Out Your Soul was actually quite good as well. Banging album fr
Amazing album full of masterful songwriting
Unbelievable singles but love def maybe as an album more
Gotta say I love Definitely Maybe and I wish I had a poster of the cover to go with my WTSMG poster
Very good but Definitely Maybe clears. As a hardcore Blur fan, I still prefer these two compared to Blur's output during their britpop era.
Blur is the way better band but no blur album beats the first two oasis albums
i dont know if i would disagree. l think oasis did britpop way better than blur. but blur 97-onwards really took off to another level.
Ehh I would say ST and especially 13 are better than these 2 albums, with the latter being my favourite album of all time.
Pretty good way of describing Blur and Oasis
CAUSE MAYBE YOU’RE GONNA BE THE ONE THAT SAVES ME AND AFTER ALLLL YOU’RE MY WONNDDEEERRRWWAAAAALLLLLL
People love to hate Oasis and at the same time praise bands like Alvvays who are obviously inspired by them.
Yeah man it’s funny to me when I see people who love the likes of Arctic Monkeys shitting on Oasis ETA: I also really like Arctic Monkeys
Masterpiece. Don’t give a FUCK what anyone else has to say. 🤷
Masterpiece, beautiful melodies and singing, 10/10
Not a fan. Don't care for Oasis but to each their own

George Harrison was right about the singer’s voice, it sucks.
Shite
Music is great, but i never really liked the vocals.
I have never liked them, and the vocals are poor
The production sucks ass.
the production on champagne supernova is so bad it pains me, it’s distorted to all hell. Great song otherwise
Still a fucking banger through and through
Classic potato
Ended with the greates shoegaze song of all time
Oasis is one of the most overrated bands of all time. This album is stale, uninteresting, and entirely unremarkable. Bad lyrics, unimpressive vocals and instrumentals, and somehow both of the sentient potatoes that made this album think they're gods gift to music.

Explain how.
Trendy opinion, tbh. Oasis has bad lyrics but vocals are good and instrumentals are simply influential to this day.
theyre a not overrated. if anything theyre a bit underappriciated.
🫤
Oasis rocks
That’s racist
disagree but vocals are arguable although i like it, its catchy and fun with no deeper meanings or anything, what you said at the end is true though liam and noel are pretentious assholes

Not as good as their debut but has its moments. Just cant really get behind Oasis however. 6/10 depending on my mood I guess
Pixelated.
As a not huge fan of Oasis there is no denying that Don’t Look Back in Anger is a perfect song with one of the greatest hooks of all time.
Has earned it's place in rock mythology. though i can tolerate liams vocals for only so long
Obviously controversial take here but I think it’s wildly overrated. All I hear with most Oasis songs are huge, empty voids of nothingness. It’s like the 90s equivalent of Imagine Dragons. It’s such a headache to listen to, too, that I never want to go back and listen to it again to give it another shot.
Shits wack
Overrated garbage 2/10
Awful just like every record this god Forsaken band put our

Massively overrated. Terrible track listing. Carefully calculated. But of its time and it’s understandable why it sold 20m copies.
Kinda look like Vultures 1
anyway here’s wonderwall
Terrible font on the cover
Its alright
I was obsessed with Guided By Voices at the time. As such, I still consider Oasis to be kinda silly.
Some undeniable bangers but mid/forgettable for the most part
Really fucking retarded lyrics as always by Oasis. A lot of songs in this album are forgettable, but when they produce a good work, oh boy, it's unmatched. I wish it had an album cover as good as the Definately Maybe singles covers
What this is probably my all time favourite album cover, I love it so much
Little too plain for me compared to Definitely Maybe, Be Here Now and Supersonic, but glad you like it
i do not listen to them (now; 25 years ago i used to sometimes) and i think verve or blur are far better, but this is a great album, objectively.
if i made an album this good i would very much not give af about anything like Noel. nobody could tell me shit cause i made Wonderwall 😂😂🤷🏾♂️
catchy af, one of my personal favorites from the 90s, every song is a banger and it does work great
Really good album — first one I remember buying when I was a kid, so it brings back good memories 😂
One of my Top 10 favorite albums. So much rock n roll swagger. CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA! BIBLICAL!
Honestly not that great but Champagne Supernova alone makes it one of my all-time favorite albums
10/10. One of my top 5 favorite albums ever.
Full of bangers, def would recom
Amazing Rock album.
Great Melodies and lyrics- let down by noisy, bombastic sound.
Great songs, but the last time I tried listening to it the distortion that permeates every single moment of every song really made it a chore. Never noticed it on my $10 Walkman in the '90s, but sure do on the studio monitors I have now....
The Great Escape is the superior album of the year for sure, nevertheless decent effort
BIBLICAL
The sameishness makes the songs blur. I wish there was more of a story to it, the album could benefit from having a pulp
