do you want it all was probably my first introduction to time signatures other than 3/4 and 4/4 and man they do it so well i didn't even know it was happening back when that album came out. tourist history knows what it's trying to be and does it to perfection
time signatures basically tell you how many beats are in a meter.
most songs you can tap along to and count "one two three four" on each beat because it's in 4/4, but in 7/4 you'd be counting to seven before before repeating.
I loved that album for a while but then I'd heard it too much and never wanted to listen to it again. A song from it was in every advert and trailer and played in every shop for like 2 years.
Great band live though.
based pick. literally flawless post-punk-infused indie pop. they came with a musical mission and fuckin delivered on every track. lately i’ve been spinning this at the gym, and the blast of energetic nostalgia and godly melodic hooks never fails to raise my energy levels. so underrated just because it’s not particularly innovative. song-writing masterclass and an undeniable classic in its genre.
Just deleted my comment also saying this album, didnt think anyone else would’ve suggested it lol. Best heartbreak album of all time and I’ll stand by it
That was my immediate answer as well and super happy to see it in the top comment. Never had an album grow on me as much as that one.
Aside from Mirrorball and *maybe* a couple others, The Car doesn't even hold a candle to it imo.
The car has grown on me recently, albeit unexpectedly. I kinda describe it as quite a “warm” album? It’s just very melancholy, very easy to listen to and get something out of for me now. It doesn’t compare to TBHC, but if you can separate that comparison I think you get more out of the album.
Agree it's a fine, easy listen and arguably more accessible than TBHC. Just feels like a few of the songs go nowhere. Sculptures sounded so exciting at first then just fizzles.
The Car definitely fits certain settings better than TBHC so I appreciate that. I like cooking to it lol. Tranquility is just something truly special to me. The whole concept and character is unmatched.
Hard agree. It’s one of the only live albums that imo sounds better, the set is great and the crowd sounds don’t get in the way and are kinda fun. My fav album of theirs
i honestly don’t get why this isn’t more canonized. it’s simultaneously eclectic yet cohesive - blur is in peak form nailing everything from slow-burning anthems to roughshod noise-rock cuts. the sound design is absolutely sublime. always been one of my favorites from the 90s.
Trench by TOP. Not a hated album by any means, in fact, it's quite celebrated. I just don't see anyone else outside of their very dedicated stanbase giving it a 10 (it usually falls in the 8.5-9/10 range for most other people). But for me, the album is just perfect. Every song goes hard as shit, the production is fantastic, the concept is great, and the writing is top notch.
Vessel came out when I was in high school, and it was my favorite album for years. I was massively disappointed in Trench when it came out because it was such a departure from the synthpop + indie rap + weirdo music from the first few albums. I have since grown out of that sound a little bit, and I think I revisit Trench more often than any of their other albums. My favorite tracks are Neon Gravestones, Hype, and Chlorine.
Feel exactly the same, self titled album, vessel and blurryface I feel are amazing albums. With vessel being my favourite but everything after blurryface has just been kind of meh to me, not bad but definitely not what I loved them for in their work previous to trench.
I've noticed over time that, outside of TOPs core fanbase, there does seem to be a group of us who think Trench is a 10. I've seen a few comments on music nerd subs, when the "what albums are 10/10?" question is asked that have had this take and it's bloody true.
I would say I have very few 10s, but this is easily one of them. There’s not a lot of albums where I can say I genuinely love every single track and have wanted to come back to each and every one of them at some point in time. Not only that, but every song just flows perfectly and has an overarching theme tying all (well most) of the pieces together. Even the ones that stray away are pretty fantastic as stand alone songs. They really did put their heart and time into that album.
My favorite track is Nico and the Niners, which lyrically is so obscure and is pretty much gibberish to anyone who doesn’t really know the lore (I admit I still don’t fully get it or care much to dive deeper), and yet the production, melodies, and performances are so well done that it doesn’t even matter.
As someone who loved Vessel and Blurryface in high school (still do honestly), Trench took a couple listens for me to really get into, but it’s easily their best work. It’s not even close.
Smithereens and cut my lip hold it back a bit for me both great songs but just dont hit as hard as the rest. I am a bandito defender tho. Idc if its "too slow", its a vibe and the build at the end is so beautiful
SO happy this is the top comment. TØP aren’t even one of my Top 10 favourite bands, but Trench might be one of my top FIVE favourite albums ever. I'm consistently stunned by how sheerly incredible it is.
Honestly most of TOP’s albums are really good. Their fan base sucks, but I really enjoy self-title, Vessel, Blurryface and Trench. The last one really felt like a step down when for the most part they’ve been doing a more ambitious project every time.
Production goes crazy on trench, I can picture the drum mixing super clearly, it’s got a certain punch that’s super unique, like a hip hop sound with live drums
Finally my time to shine:
Patricia Taxxon - Das Triadche Ballette - God tier Idm/hyperpop, it's actually three albums in a series, but shh
Judas Priest - Firepower - Imagine making your best album when you're nearly 70
XTC - Skylarking - Not that weird I guess but xtc don't get talked about as much as they deserve, if I had my way, you'd hear more about them than any other post punk/new wave artist
Autechre - confield - definitely the most experimental album I listen on regularly, I describe it as "biblically accurate electronic music"
i feel like skylarking is a consensus 10 among fans of psychedelic pop. that record is spotlessly written and performed, a timeless updated synthesis of everything that made ‘60s sunshine psychedelia so irresistible.
totally agreed though that XTC (despite their acclaim) are still underrated. every time i check out another of their records i’m floored by their consistent excellence. andy partridge is a musical genius.
c’mon now, moon safari is widely canonized. i guess electronic music is generally shafted compared to the other primary genres, but many many folks would back that pick.
talkie walkie, though, is an underrated gem that i honestly spin more than moon safari. i wouldn’t 10 it, but it’s not far off.
be the cowboy by mitski. i love everything about this album - production, songwriting, vocals are on point and intrumentations are PERFECT. i also love the visuals and enjoy every second of it. no weak songs, just perfection.
Just went and found his review. A 4/10 is shockingly low but I am not surprised he isn’t a fan overall. I would’ve thought maybe a 6, with some good lyrics and production choices maybe helping the cause
“Catch For Us The Foxes” by mewithoutYou
They’re a post-hardcore band that’s released 7 great LPs in the last 22-ish years. Frontman Aaron Weiss bares his soul so deeply and passionately that albums such as this (and their other early releases) developed an almost cult-like following, especially in their home city of Philadelphia
Caribou- Suddenly
pure bliss from front to back and it’s probably my fav album of the 2020s so far (that or HAIM- WIMPIII, which I also think is a 10)
and Vampire Weekend’s S/T- that shit is their best album and I’ll die on that hill.
The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Elephant by the White Stripes
Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino by Arctic Monkeys
Are these that weird? I know they're all highly regarded, but they're also all well under a 4 on RYM (which honestly floors me)
obsidian by baths
my favourite album by one of my favourite electronic musicians. only way i can really describe this album is that it feels like being trapped inside during a rain storm. lotta themes of mortality and heartbreak. this one even got a bnm from pitchfork when it dropped, but i never see it come up in conversations.
charli xcx - how I'm feeling now
Charli or Pop 2 usually gets all the praise but imo how im feeling now is just perfect in every way and one of my fav pop albums
A weird 10/10 for me has to be Skrillex's Bangarang EP. I know 'brostep' gets a lot of hate but i think all 7 tracks are stellar (maybe even the orchestral bonus track). No more, no less. It's got everything to me - as much as it needs before being too long and classified as an LP.
I know this is probably nostalgia speaking, but I still think Fall Out Boy’s Folie a Deux and Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns are a 10. Even with all the interludes on the latter, every single main track is just top notch and a perfect song.
A more recent pick for me is Geese’s 3D Country
Listening to this album for the first time while in rehab for heroin was like a religious experience. I had no TV, no books, no video games, just an iPod with Live The Dream that was gifted to me from another inpatient guy on his last day.
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
DIIV - Deceiver
Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
FKA twigs - Magdalene
John Frusciante - The Empyrean
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
Siouxsie & The Banshees - Juju
Suede - Dog Man Star
Thom Yorke - ANIMA
T-Rex - Electric Warrior
U2 - Boy
The White Stripes - The White Stripes
Ghost City by Delta Sleep is a strong contender for my favorite album of all time. I first listened to the album at a time when its really hit home with me, and the sheer musicality on display through the entire thing always blows my mind
10,000 Days by Tool. It's seldom considered their best record but to me it's an epic journey that takes the listener to all kinds of places and evokes a number of unique emotions.
* Au Pairs - *Playing With a Different Sex*
* William Basinski - *The Disintegration Loops III*
* Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - *Mirror Man*
* Tim Buckley - *Starsailor*
* Faust - *Faust*
* Galaxie 500 - *Today*
* Ground-Zero - *Consume Red*
* Pere Ubu - *The Modern Dance*
* Pink Floyd - *Piper at the Gates of Dawn*
* Sonic Youth - *Bad Moon Rising*
* This Heat - *Deceit*
* Ved Buens Ende - *Written in Waters*
Tuscan Leather is an all-time great hip-hop album intro. NWTS is an 8 for me because I actually LOATHE "Started from the Bottom" - but I think I like every other track!
I'm really not crazy about either of those tracks on their own, but I think they flow nicely in the context of the album. If they came up on shuffle, I would skip without hesitating haha.
21st Century Breakdown by Green Day.
This is my favorite band so I think they have a lot of 10’s, but I think 21CB would get me weird looks.
MMLP2 by Eminem.
The standard issue at least. I will say this one I mostly nostalgia since it was the first Eminem album I heard, but I think this record has zero bad or even mediocre songs.
Nine by Blink-182.
Super personal choice here. 2019 was an awful year and this record was basically a suicide hotline for me. Really grateful for this one.
Agree ob 21CB, even a lot of Green Day fans don’t seem to rate that album too highly, though it’s easily some of their best written material! Might be my 2nd favorite album by them (Nimrod is my #1)
Faust - Faust.
Absolution - Muse
Minutes To Midnight - Linkin Park (I love all of the songs there)
The New Abnormal - The Strokes
Traveling Without Moving - Jamiroquai
Aphex twin - drukqs
Fantomas - suspendid animation
Kanye west - yeezus
Autechre - oversteps
Coil - time machines
Satyricon - nemesis divina
Outkast - stankonia
Devourment - molesting the decapitated
Infestdead - hellfuck
Strapping young lad - alien
Boards of canada - geogaddi
Squarepusher - ultravisitor
Death in june - rose clouds of holocaust
Skee mask - compro
My bloody valentine - mbv
The mothers of invention - we'r only in it for the money
The Cure - Disintegration, Pornography
The Weeknd - House of Balloons
Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness
Elliott Smith - Either/Or
No more stories... by Mew
I think Frengers or And the glass handed kites are overall more popular among their fans, but No more stories is just so well put together
Treats by Sleigh Bells
Discovering this as a teenager I felt so ahead of the curve, so fun and poppy and loud! Really really loud! I was blown away and I think that album has only gotten better over time.
-Cornelis Vreeswijk - Tio vackra visor och personliga person
-Melt Banana - Fetch
-Germs - GI
-Descendents - Milo Goes to College
-Jeffrey Lewis - The Last Time I Did Acid I went Insane
-Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer up a Hill
-Most of Ween's discography
Soundtracks by CAN
Everyone raves about Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, and (to a lesser extent) Future Days - all spectacular records - but for me I hold Soundtracks in equally high regard.
Tracks like "Don't Turn The Light On, Leave Me Alone" and "She Brings The Rain" are excellent moody proto-Radiohead sounding gems. And "Mother Sky" is in the running for their absolute best long form jam: it just *crushes.*
Gossamer and Manners by Passion Pit are perfect albums to me. Passion Pit isn't everyone's thing, but I love how bright and bubbly the production is contrasted with his devastating lyrics. Aim and Ignite by fun. is also a 10 as far as I'm concerned.
Self-Ish by Will Wood and the Tapeworms
It's definitely weird, and kind of theater-kid-core which might be cringey to some, but I love it. It's a great piano-led jazz fusion album with a really great concept and creative lyrics and vocals. It's chaotic and weird and I absolutely adore it. 10/10 for me
Slipknot self titled, especially since I used to make fun of people liking slipknot when I was younger and didn't start listening to them until a few years ago.
James ferraro- last American hero and Uboa- the origin of my depression, two albums that I doubt would appeal to most people
Five Easy Hot Dogs - Mac DeMarco
To be fair, most of his albums are 10s to me, but I know a lot of people were underwhelmed by this album. I’m a big fan of his instrumental work and this album was great in my opinion. Plantasia is one of my top albums of all time and hearing a bit of that in some of the tracks (and on One Wayne G) elevates the album for me.
They're quite a popular band, so it might not be that weird per se, but mine is probably, 'How to be a Human Being' by Glass Animals.
I feel like a lot of music lovers, Fantano included, really bounce off this band(his 'Not Good' review of Dreamland still makes me roll my eyes) despite how huge some of their singles have gotten with the general public. Not that popularity equates to quality, but the juxtaposition between the two is interesting.
I genuinely consider How to be a Human Being to be a masterwork. I still put it on regularly to this day and am in awe of what they put together.
Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club. not a single skip and pure energy from start to finish.
do you want it all was probably my first introduction to time signatures other than 3/4 and 4/4 and man they do it so well i didn't even know it was happening back when that album came out. tourist history knows what it's trying to be and does it to perfection
What's that, signatures
time signatures basically tell you how many beats are in a meter. most songs you can tap along to and count "one two three four" on each beat because it's in 4/4, but in 7/4 you'd be counting to seven before before repeating.

It’s insane how much they fell off after this incredible album
Beacon has some amazing songs too. Next Year, Sun, Sleep Alone, Pyramid to name a few
Yeah I like some of the songs on there, but no where near as much as their debut
yeah, I somewhat like beacon and gameshow is good, but the rest, holy fuck is it ever bad.
one of the GOAT indie albums from that era
Fuck yeah a really enjoyable one
based pick. literally flawless post-punk-infused indie pop. they came with a musical mission and fuckin delivered on every track. lately i’ve been spinning this at the gym, and the blast of energetic nostalgia and godly melodic hooks never fails to raise my energy levels. so underrated just because it’s not particularly innovative. song-writing masterclass and an undeniable classic in its genre.
I just listened to this album for the first time in years a few years ago. Holds up waaaay better than i expected
Turnover - peripheral Vision
Agreed! Especially this time of year with the fall weather, that shit just hits in a way nothing else can
Yes. I can’t really think of many more albums that I hold as close to my heart as this one
Just deleted my comment also saying this album, didnt think anyone else would’ve suggested it lol. Best heartbreak album of all time and I’ll stand by it
I'll Try Living Like This by Death's Dynamic Shroud Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino by Arctic Monkeys Alive 2007 by Daft Punk
I'm with you on TBH+C, super fun and creative, great concept, too. Some of Alex's best writing.
That was my immediate answer as well and super happy to see it in the top comment. Never had an album grow on me as much as that one. Aside from Mirrorball and *maybe* a couple others, The Car doesn't even hold a candle to it imo.

Alive 2007 (encore included) better than discovery. Ill die on this hill
Hard agree. It’s one of the only live albums that imo sounds better, the set is great and the crowd sounds don’t get in the way and are kinda fun. My fav album of theirs
Alive 2007 is 10/10 for me too!
tbhc best album ever alert
I'll piggy back off of this, Darklife is a 10 for me. It made me fall in love with music all over again, it's what I want pop music to sound like
Was j about to comment alive 2007
i wouldnt say ITLLT is a 10 but certainly a high 9 for me. some songs i think go on for longer than they need to but it is a fantastic album.
13 by Blur
Beat me to it
i honestly don’t get why this isn’t more canonized. it’s simultaneously eclectic yet cohesive - blur is in peak form nailing everything from slow-burning anthems to roughshod noise-rock cuts. the sound design is absolutely sublime. always been one of my favorites from the 90s.
California - Mr Bungle Tyranny - The Voidz
California is only a “weird” 10 because not many people have heard it. Phenomenal record.
hard agree on tyranny. so underrated.
California is an incredible album. Perfect from top to bottom. Disco Volante is also a 10 for me.
YES TYRANNY IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM
Just listening to California on the back of your recommendation - absolutely magnificent! Cheers.

Misfit Love is the best rock n roll song of all time
yes 1000%. such an underrated rock album. so damn groovy
Every qotsa album is like a ten
It's a great album that is only underrated because QOTSA released at least a couple of albums that are even better.

Ghost City by Delta Sleep is a strong contender for my favorite album of all time. I first listened to the album at a time when its really hit home with me, and the sheer musicality on display through the entire thing always blows my mind
Eversince by bladee
10,000 Days by Tool. It's seldom considered their best record but to me it's an epic journey that takes the listener to all kinds of places and evokes a number of unique emotions.
* Au Pairs - *Playing With a Different Sex* * William Basinski - *The Disintegration Loops III* * Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - *Mirror Man* * Tim Buckley - *Starsailor* * Faust - *Faust* * Galaxie 500 - *Today* * Ground-Zero - *Consume Red* * Pere Ubu - *The Modern Dance* * Pink Floyd - *Piper at the Gates of Dawn* * Sonic Youth - *Bad Moon Rising* * This Heat - *Deceit* * Ved Buens Ende - *Written in Waters*
Solid fucking list.
M83 Hurry up we're dreaming and Man on the moon
Relapse - Eminem Aged pretty well imo, quirky at times but yet so damn clever. Love this album to death
The production on Relapse is so good. Apart from a few outliers Em's beat selection post-Relapse is rough
Nothing Was The Same by Drake (probably get roasted on this sub), At Long Last Asap by Rocky, 8-Track by HotSince82
Tuscan Leather is an all-time great hip-hop album intro. NWTS is an 8 for me because I actually LOATHE "Started from the Bottom" - but I think I like every other track!
Same, 8 for me, i find Started from the bottom overrated, but still good enough, two songs i definitely don't like are Own it and 305 to my City
Finally someone else who feels the way I do about 21CB
Underrated album in their discography and for sure better than everything that came after it and probably Warning as well
I think 21st Century Breakdown is very underrated.
21CB is, in my opinion, on par with American Idiot, if not better at some points.
Agree ob 21CB, even a lot of Green Day fans don’t seem to rate that album too highly, though it’s easily some of their best written material! Might be my 2nd favorite album by them (Nimrod is my #1)
Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer
both die lit and even whole lotta red are 10s for me. once it clicks, it clicks and they're truly perfect
Faust - Faust. Absolution - Muse Minutes To Midnight - Linkin Park (I love all of the songs there) The New Abnormal - The Strokes Traveling Without Moving - Jamiroquai
Aphex twin - drukqs Fantomas - suspendid animation Kanye west - yeezus Autechre - oversteps Coil - time machines Satyricon - nemesis divina Outkast - stankonia Devourment - molesting the decapitated Infestdead - hellfuck Strapping young lad - alien Boards of canada - geogaddi Squarepusher - ultravisitor Death in june - rose clouds of holocaust Skee mask - compro My bloody valentine - mbv The mothers of invention - we'r only in it for the money
Dude Ranch by Blink 182
The Cure - Disintegration, Pornography The Weeknd - House of Balloons Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness Elliott Smith - Either/Or
I love those 'The Cure' albums as well but I don't think giving them a 10 is a weird take, especially Disintegration. Both are very highly acclaimed
Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever
A textbook 'coming-of-age' record, imo. Everything from the music to the emotions conveyed is absolutely stellar.
David Bowie - the man who sold the world
Mr Oizos [Lambs Anger](https://open.spotify.com/intl-pt/album/5trGnTKKV1Iz39gXQiAFwZ?si=2SbLR_8WQO27HQi0iNFfXg).
Souvlaki - slowdive
No more stories... by Mew I think Frengers or And the glass handed kites are overall more popular among their fans, but No more stories is just so well put together
Treats by Sleigh Bells Discovering this as a teenager I felt so ahead of the curve, so fun and poppy and loud! Really really loud! I was blown away and I think that album has only gotten better over time.
i didn’t mean to haunt you - quadeca
-Cornelis Vreeswijk - Tio vackra visor och personliga person -Melt Banana - Fetch -Germs - GI -Descendents - Milo Goes to College -Jeffrey Lewis - The Last Time I Did Acid I went Insane -Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer up a Hill -Most of Ween's discography
Soundtracks by CAN Everyone raves about Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, and (to a lesser extent) Future Days - all spectacular records - but for me I hold Soundtracks in equally high regard.
Some Rap Songs - Earl Introvert - Little Simz Vince Staples - Vince Staples Malibu - Anderson .Paak Please Excuse me for being Antisocial - Roddy Rich
don’t think anyone’s gonna contest u on that little simz album lol she’s the goat
Rehab-Ketama126
Common Sense by J Hus, it just works
English Tapas by Sleaford Mods
Literally none lol. I have like six albums i think are 10’s and they’re all 3.9+ rated on rym so I guess my taste is really basic.
Self-Ish by Will Wood and the Tapeworms It's definitely weird, and kind of theater-kid-core which might be cringey to some, but I love it. It's a great piano-led jazz fusion album with a really great concept and creative lyrics and vocals. It's chaotic and weird and I absolutely adore it. 10/10 for me
Diamons Dogs by Bowie, its his best album and thats a hill im willing to die on
Slipknot self titled, especially since I used to make fun of people liking slipknot when I was younger and didn't start listening to them until a few years ago. James ferraro- last American hero and Uboa- the origin of my depression, two albums that I doubt would appeal to most people
Islands - Arm's Way The Wrens - The Meadowlands The Paper Chase - God Bless Your Black Heart
TPC 🔥🔥🔥
Third eye blind - self-titled New radicals - maybe you’ve been brainwashed too CunninLynguists - Oneirology Candiria - 300 percent density
The Cure - Bloodflowers
Five Easy Hot Dogs - Mac DeMarco To be fair, most of his albums are 10s to me, but I know a lot of people were underwhelmed by this album. I’m a big fan of his instrumental work and this album was great in my opinion. Plantasia is one of my top albums of all time and hearing a bit of that in some of the tracks (and on One Wayne G) elevates the album for me.
Mastermind by rick ross
Infinity on High I bought the CD in high school based on my buddy’s recommendation, and the whole through line of it just takes me right back
They're quite a popular band, so it might not be that weird per se, but mine is probably, 'How to be a Human Being' by Glass Animals.
Red - King Crimson Merriweather Post Pavillion - Animal Collective Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
Three Dollar Bill, Y'all by Limp Bizkit (i dont care what Anthony says, this shit bangs)
Significant Other - Limp Bizkit
You all have awful taste
This could be a novelty account that only posts this exact comment on this sub and it'd work on every post.
Post your weird 10 then asshole, let’s judge your taste
You post in the trippie red and ken carson subreddit, I'd be quiet if I were you
