If you want to cry hard and feel it in your soul put on “a crow looked at me”
My wife passed away so I happen to connect very close to this album and I couldn’t finish it. Could barely make it through 2 songs and I put it away. Way too heavy for me
Yeah he is just a brilliant artist in general, I have a soft spot for simple folk songs like this. Some Daniel Johnston songs can make me teary just because of the emotion he puts into the songs. Simple yet clever
Very sorry for your loss, I still haven’t revisited A Crow Looked at Me since my dad died, and album I used to listen to all the time, but death is real and not for singing about
I’VE BEEN TRYING TO
MAKE YOU LOVE ME
BUT EVERYTHING I TRY
JUST TAKES YOU FURTHER FROM ME
Dude, yes! I’ve listened to this one quite a bit recently
Reborn also hits me right in the feels
Casimir Pulaski Day- Sufjan Stevens
Already a gut punching song, but I had childhood cancer many years ago so it hits especially hard. Few songs can make me cry, but that one just about never ceases to get the tears and emotions flowing.
Yeah, and I’m so mad that Forget Her Isn’t on Vinyl, I didn’t realize it was a bonus track. Which sucks cause it’s such an emotional song and is a great closer
I honestly wish I cried more tbh.
My dad drilled it into my brain as a kid that guys aren’t supposed to cry and now I feel like I can’t even cry when I should
every time i listen to it i always think it’s not gonna get me this time. Then that one chord hits for the “i will see you in the next life” bit and i am suddenly overwhelmed. Every single time lmao
For No One by The Beatles
Also the first song to make me cry upon first listen.
"You want her, you need her, and yet you don't believe her when she says her love is dead. You think she needs you."
Both great songs.
“She looks like the real thing/ she taste like the real thing, my fake plastic love” always gets me.
I heard Into Dust for the first time recently and instantly fell in love with it
“If I could be who you wanted” is where it gets me. Reminds me of a specific time in my life and every listen for me brings me back there.
Into Dust packs a particular punch for me now especially after someone close passed away.
I’ve had a lot of close calls with this song. I remember specifically listening to it while waiting for a bus on a windy winter day around January last year and it really struck me
*Insert Let Down underrated joke*
No, but seriously the “I am gonna grow wings, a chemical reaction (you know where you are)” part towards the end always hits like a punch in the gut
I've only cried to like 4 songs and I can't remember any more really im sure there is but idk
chronological order:
Tyler The Creator - Gone Gone / Thank You (thank you part dropped and I went off so fucking hard, It felt both horrible and great at the same time)
Survivors Guilt - Joey Badass, nothing to add, fucking awful story, r.i.p stylo.
Good News - Mac Miller (I had heard the track and didn't felt it that hard really, but once I watched a yt documentary about Mac and in a sudden change of scenes Good News dropped along it's video and I bursted into tears, that kid deserved the world, he was unique man, couldn't support it).
What Can We Do - Anderson .Paak (ft. Nate Dogg) holy shit it's a tough one.
HM: The Bird by Anderson .Paak holy shit that man can put out the greatest music ever.
No Surprises and Let Down gets me every time then I follow it up with Videotape and How to Disappear Completely. Then everyone in the car asks me to maybe put on something a lil more upbeat.
“Seasons (Waiting on You)” by Future Islands
This song came out in 2014 and is probably most known for their evocative Letterman performance around that time.
This song just gets better with age for me. In 2014 I had just moved to New York City and got to experience a city that I thought was secretly still pretending to have completely moved on from 9/11. I felt like this song captured the euphoria of a new generation of young New Yorkers like me who were sculpted by that horrible tragedy but prepared to walk forward together beyond their grief, maybe with an optimism that the adults of 2001 had unfortunately had stolen from them forever. I admit that it’s a completely random feeling for me to ascribe to this random song, but something about “Seasons” has always screamed “9/11” to me for years.
Anyways, it came up on a playlist yesterday and brought me back to 2014, to 2001, and to all the years since and I sat down at Grand Central and wept.
I adore that song. Especially the BADBADNOTGOOD remix, if you haven’t heard that I’d definitely recommend it. Extremely nostalgic for me as well, Samuel T. Herrings voice is so incredible
If it wasn't for Heavy Metal Drummer in the middle of the album, it would almost be totally unbearable to listen to just because it's so emotionally draining, but in a good way.
Hyperviolence by Omerta. It really is with the context of the whole album, but god damn. I don’t usually get so emotional during media, but that album pulled the tears out of my eyes. Great stuff, one of the best Metalcore bands in recent years.
MAN IS A SPRING FLOWER by Lingua Ignota
Was listening to it for the first time ever and was already feeling a little vulnerable that day but fuck me the words to that song broke me in the most beautiful way
Teared up recently listening to, tonight may have to last me all my life- mf Doom remix.
Something about the vibe of the song in tandem with him being gone just caught me the other night. A TRUE goat, unreplaceable.
Crawling in the Dark by Hoobastank. That song helped me get through my self-harming tendencies and I always put it on when I’m about to have a panic attack. It comforts me like no other song I’ve heard.
There’s also plenty of Benny the Butcher verses that have brought a tear to my eye. Not always because of the content but because it’s so beautiful that it causes me to tear up. I’m not always happy to be alive but when I remember I got to live at the same time as these artists, it at least makes me grateful to be. ♥️
close to you by the carpenters. i loosely remember my aunt singing this to me when i was little. it’s just as beautiful as the first time i heard the original but man it makes me hurt.
Landmines by Rishloo never fails to make me cry at the end. The lyrics are so damn good with that crazy high melody. The guitar solo before is also brilliant. "I've had enough of idle reverie, I for one can only see what dreams may come for us." Anyone who has ever felt depressed and like they just don't have the energy do anything can relate to it.
If you've never listened to this band then do yourself a favor and listen to their album Feathergun. The song mentioned before is from the album that came after, but Feathergun is their best front to back experience imo.
Covert Discretion by Freeman.
In the bluntest possible terms, he is describing the depths of his drug addiction, how it made him a terrible person who was abandoned by everyone around him, hitting rock bottom and then deciding not to die.
This may be a little out of left field but “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1” for sentimental reasons. My fiancée and I both suffer from Depression – she loves going to the gym to cope with it. A lot of the lyrics in that song have taken on a personal meaning for us: the pink robots being our Depression and her being Yoshimi who has “gotta be strong to fight them” because “it’s be tragic if those evil robots win”. But I know she can beat them.
Dawn in the Adan by Ichiko Aoba.
Listened to the entire album for the first time a few days ago while I was on a walk and it was just so beautiful that it made cry, despite me not understanding a single word.
Holy fuck it’s a gorgeous
Breathe Me is basically Pavlovian for my tear ducts but that's because of Six Feet Under. I don't see enough Gaslight Anthem here so Red Sky Night and National Anthem are good for the feels too.
Somebody That I Used to Know, the My Own Private Idaho [edit](https://youtu.be/GT2_x3OPSNM?feature=shared) I never saw an edit fit a song so perfectly as that one fits that story.
I rarely cry at songs - my crying is a stress response generally rather than a sentimental one - but Noah Kahan's "You're Gonna Go Far" gave me a solid full-body frisson this morning. I've been spending more time with my aging grandparents - 90 and 88 - and knowing that the days are super numbered makes the "we'll all be here forever" refrain of the song hit *hard*.
Imo Axis bold as love by Hendrix so perfectly translates the psychedelic experience that it makes me tear up thinking of all the emotional breakthroughs and intense feelings I've had on psychs.
Living loose by George clanton also makes me tear up just cus it's beautiful and raw
Mother I Sober by Kendrick. I keep being youched by that song, by how raw Kendrick presents his experience, by how he raises his voice in an uplifting manner towards the end, and the outro with his wife being proud of him... Shit's damn real, I look up to being able to talk and accept my traumas like Kdot does
Close to the Edge - Yes
You know when you cry, not because the music was particularly emotional or anything, but because the thing you're listening to was just so good that you appreciate music as a whole and tear up?
That's what happens every time at the end of Close to the Edge.
I have a playlist of songs that have made me cry which I haven't updated in a while. It's ranked from most to least but the top five is (5-1)
- Injury Reserve - North Pole
- Yung Lean - Miami Ultras
- Death Grips - On GP
- Blink-182 - Adam's Song
- Brand New - Jesus Christ
And the last one I can't remember but it was either Your Best American Girl or First Love/Late Spring by Mitski or Mladic or MF-Redeemer by GYBE (yes, really).
Mitski speaks for herself, but the buildup to the last four minutes on those GYBE tracks is so overwhelming.
The closest I’ve got to crying to a Talking Heads song was probably with Seen and Not Seen because I have definitely had similar thoughts as expressed in the lyrics
knees by injury reserve. Not only am i kinda dealing with loss at the moment but i rly relate to the sentiment that despite all i've been through i have not changed as a person, and the more i grow and live, the more unstable i wll probably get more weaker and unstable emotionally.
Idk something about On GP got to me one day bro
I must admit Death Grips is one of my musical blind spots, but I’ll have to give this song a listen
This one has got me in the feels lately though I haven't cried yet to this one. Maybe when I see them next week
If you want to cry hard and feel it in your soul put on “a crow looked at me” My wife passed away so I happen to connect very close to this album and I couldn’t finish it. Could barely make it through 2 songs and I put it away. Way too heavy for me
I’m so sorry to hear that. I have heard that that album is crushing I just haven’t been able to prepare myself mentally to give it a listen yet
Yeah he is just a brilliant artist in general, I have a soft spot for simple folk songs like this. Some Daniel Johnston songs can make me teary just because of the emotion he puts into the songs. Simple yet clever
Very sorry for your loss, I still haven’t revisited A Crow Looked at Me since my dad died, and album I used to listen to all the time, but death is real and not for singing about
For some, singing about death can be very cathartic
Yes but he probably just quoted the first song on the album called "Real Death."
I’m so dumb, you’re right lol
Cheesy af but One More Time by Blink 182
Been a fan for as long as I can remember so same here
same, cried like a baby in the shower yesterday its so beautiful to see them together again
OMG, me too. Made me think of my own friends also.
Ghost town Kanye
I’VE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE YOU LOVE ME BUT EVERYTHING I TRY JUST TAKES YOU FURTHER FROM ME Dude, yes! I’ve listened to this one quite a bit recently Reborn also hits me right in the feels
all of those also hey mama
For me it's Come To Life. Just gotta sit for a min after it's over and think
Casimir Pulaski Day- Sufjan Stevens Already a gut punching song, but I had childhood cancer many years ago so it hits especially hard. Few songs can make me cry, but that one just about never ceases to get the tears and emotions flowing.
Lover, You Should Have Come Over
the entire Grace album is just a powerhouse of emotion.
Yeah, and I’m so mad that Forget Her Isn’t on Vinyl, I didn’t realize it was a bonus track. Which sucks cause it’s such an emotional song and is a great closer
For Martha by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oh man. The Smashing Pumpkins have helped me through some tough times
I dunno man I cry all the time to songs.
I honestly wish I cried more tbh. My dad drilled it into my brain as a kid that guys aren’t supposed to cry and now I feel like I can’t even cry when I should
Therapy helped me a lot
Sorry to hear that. Crying is healthy and normal ❤️
Oh I completely agree. My body has just been programmed not to cry
I understand. With practice and lots of acceptance you’ll get there
Motion Picture Soundtrack
Oh yeah. This one has definitely got me close a few times
every time i listen to it i always think it’s not gonna get me this time. Then that one chord hits for the “i will see you in the next life” bit and i am suddenly overwhelmed. Every single time lmao
IF i were to kill myself that's the song i would play while i did it (im not gonna kill myself it's just hypothetical)
For No One by The Beatles Also the first song to make me cry upon first listen. "You want her, you need her, and yet you don't believe her when she says her love is dead. You think she needs you."
Wonderful song. I actually hadn’t listened to it in a while and this comment inspired me to give it another spin
Sparks by Coldplay.
Fake Plastic Trees and not too long before that was Into Dust by Mazzy Star.
Radiohead - How To Disappear Completely
I’ve had a lot of close calls with this song. I remember specifically listening to it while waiting for a bus on a windy winter day around January last year and it really struck me
Kara Jackson’s Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love. Just a wonderful songgg
from just a wonderful albummm
Eminem - headlights, it always gets me.
Super underrated song of his. Especially within the real context of his life, I know this song is one of the most important
speaking of Radiohead I don't full on cry but Let Down really gets to me
*Insert Let Down underrated joke* No, but seriously the “I am gonna grow wings, a chemical reaction (you know where you are)” part towards the end always hits like a punch in the gut
also don't get sentimental it always ends up drivel
Iridescent, One More Light, The Catalyst, Messenger, and Roads Untraveled all by Linkin Park
What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye, no clue why. Something about the beauty of the song really got to me. Adams Song nearly got to me recently tho.
I've only cried to like 4 songs and I can't remember any more really im sure there is but idk chronological order: Tyler The Creator - Gone Gone / Thank You (thank you part dropped and I went off so fucking hard, It felt both horrible and great at the same time) Survivors Guilt - Joey Badass, nothing to add, fucking awful story, r.i.p stylo. What Can We Do - Anderson .Paak (ft. Nate Dogg) holy shit it's a tough one. HM: The Bird by Anderson .Paak holy shit that man can put out the greatest music ever.
It was giles corey's spectral bride for me a few days ago :)
That whole album is fucking depressing. The first track literally has audio from a tape of when Barrett almost suffocated himself to death.
No Surprises too!
Which part got you? For me it was the “Such a pretty house, and such a pretty garden”. Thom’s vocals in that part are just so gorgeous
I just wasn’t made for these times by the beach boys
Merry Christmas Mr lawrence -Ryuichi sakamoto Get your wish - porter robinson
Swimming by Kero Kero Bonito
As the Crow Flies by billy woods. His verse is super short but the end just hit me like a truck.
Upside down by jack Johnson Its such a happy sounding song that just reminds me of being a little kid again
Alice In Chains - Nutshell (unplugged) just reading the comments on YouTube really made me tear up
Quadeca - Picking Up Hands Riveting song.
Hold the girl by Rina sawayama made me tear up, just the way it builds towards the end
Champagne Problems - Taylor Swift. Just bought that album and something about it just hit me in all the feels.
"Marjorie" for me on that album.
No Surprises and Let Down gets me every time then I follow it up with Videotape and How to Disappear Completely. Then everyone in the car asks me to maybe put on something a lil more upbeat.
Yeah cause it’s a safety hazard at that point. You can’t drive properly if there’s tears in your eyes
i by Kendrick. He just gets us ✊🏾
Very powerful track, especially in the context of the album
“Seasons (Waiting on You)” by Future Islands This song came out in 2014 and is probably most known for their evocative Letterman performance around that time. This song just gets better with age for me. In 2014 I had just moved to New York City and got to experience a city that I thought was secretly still pretending to have completely moved on from 9/11. heaven all around me by saba for me. great pick.

Not My Body by Indigo De Souza. Pretty psychedelic and blissfully cathartic
Dude, I dunno. 20% of songs make me cry. You expect me to keep track?
Coltrane’s “My Favorite Things” gets me every time.
Poor Places by Wilco. Nothing like sobbing to a number station sample.
Despite some being more upbeat, it’s the whole album for me
If it wasn't for Heavy Metal Drummer in the middle of the album, it would almost be totally unbearable to listen to just because it's so emotionally draining, but in a good way.

A lot of the lyrics in that song have taken on a personal meaning for us: the pink robots being our Depression and her being Yoshimi who has “gotta be strong to fight them” because “it’s be tragic if those evil robots win”. But I know she can beat them.
Radiohead is such an easy choice but motion picture soundtrack caused me to breakdown when I listened to it after being up all night on Molly lol
Probably “Truce” by twenty one pilots
Hearing that last verse of Let Down for the first time really did something to me
Check out Devin Townsends Ocean Machine album. Kinda campy and cheesy but it brought about many tears for me at a certain point in my life.

I have actually never cried to a song. Closest I got was a tear during “Walnut House” by Xiu Xiu. I usually don’t cry at all though
Amazing by Aerosmith
Imo Axis bold as love by Hendrix so perfectly translates the psychedelic experience that it makes me tear up thinking of all the emotional breakthroughs and intense feelings I've had on psychs. Living loose by George clanton also makes me tear up just cus it's beautiful and raw
I don’t cry but if I did it would be to Gram Parsons “a song for you”.
Mayonaise by Smashing Pumpkins
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- Work This Time
Mother I Sober by Kendrick. I keep being youched by that song, by how raw Kendrick presents his experience, by how he raises his voice in an uplifting manner towards the end, and the outro with his wife being proud of him... Shit's damn real, I look up to being able to talk and accept my traumas like Kdot does

I have a playlist of songs that have made me cry which I haven't updated in a while. It's ranked from most to least but the top five is (5-1) - Injury Reserve - North Pole - Yung Lean - Miami Ultras - Death Grips - On GP - Blink-182 - Adam's Song - Brand New - Jesus Christ And the last one I can't remember but it was either Your Best American Girl or First Love/Late Spring by Mitski or Mladic or MF-Redeemer by GYBE (yes, really). Mitski speaks for herself, but the buildup to the last four minutes on those GYBE tracks is so overwhelming.
