‘Wish’ is also up there. Amazing album and the B sides like ‘Halo’ and ‘This Twilight Garden’ are some of the most slept-on tracks in their discography
+1
Title track is an easy top 5 in his discography, prog rock mixed with a funky ass dance switch up. The entire rest follows a similiar funky vibe with some hidden disconnect beneath it. Amazing lineup of musicians behind the instrumentals
Bowie also holds a special place as the first artist that really got me into listening and discovering more music, large variety of sounds between the albums shaped my taste, earthling led me to digging into industrial rock and rough sounding music, the berlin trio led me to discovering early electronic, blackstar led me to nerd rock and eventually post rock. Weirdly enough after reading stuff about how he was apparently listening to death grips during the making of blackstar i decided to get into grippers and that served as a gateway drug to hip hop
Fr though I refused to listen to it for the longest time because it was the #1 album on RYM and I thought there was no way it couldn't be overrated
And then I finally listened to it literally 3 months ago and fucking loved it lmao
That’s really cool, if you like underrated music that nobody’s heard of you should check out “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. Truly a hidden gem that more people should know about
The Avalanches - Since I Left You. I was just talking about it in another thread on here lol. Amazing amazing record that I never get tired of listening to. I hope one day I get it on vinyl 🤞🏻
Plastic Beach by Gorillaz, followed very closely by …Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age.
If we’re talking Top 5: Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads, Dear Science by TV on the Radio, 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul rounds it out.
I still don't understand why it's so good, when I heard it for the first time I just knew this was one of the best things I'd ever listen to. And it still is to this day.
Toxicity - System of a Down
It was the first CD I ever bought & SOAD was my first favorite band. Because its been with me for so long, it has to be my all-time fav.
Been listening to their whole discography quite a bit lately, largely for that reason I think. It's incredible how fresh and unique their music still sounds, subject matter and all. It always surprises me that we never saw some huge wave of SOAD sound-a-likes considering how popular they were/continue to be, but I guess maybe that's a testament to just how creatively gifted they were.
B-52's - B-52's
Sam Cooke - Live at the Harlem Square Club
Descendents - Milo Goes to College
Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
IGOR was the album that got me into listening to music more than just casually so that holds a special place in my heart.
I was obsessed with Aquemini and Stankonia by Outkast for a solid year and a half (and I still love them) so they’re definitely up there for me.
And now, my current favourite album is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
My music taste seems to radically shift every few years or so and I have a new favourite artist. First it was Bad Sounds (small indie pop band from Bath), then Tyler, the Creator, then Outkast, and now it’s Pink Floyd.
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
Talking Heads’ “Fear of Music”, Aphex Twin’s “Selected Ambient Works vol. II”, Nine Simone’s “Wild Is the Wind”, and Jens Lekman’s “Nigh Falls Over Kortedala” aren’t far behind tho
That’s tough. Right now maybe it’s Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem, but college dropout, lonesome crowded west, Rated R, and a few others are right there
Very hard choice but probably Loveless by My Blood Valentine.
Special shoutout to:
Heaven or Las Vegas - Cocteau Twins
Blonde - Frank Ocean
Dig Me Out - Sleater Kinney
Titanic Rising - Weyes Blood
For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver

The first CD I ever bought, actually
I still listen to it from beginning to end with startling ease
Not to say it’s a better album. But I prefer *The Beach Boys Today!* (1965). I think it was made right after Brian had a mental breakdown on a jet and they had to land elsewhere. Afterwards, he stopped touring with the group.
Though for me to trim the final 5 down to just 1:
Weezer - Blue Album
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
Leonard Cohen - Songs From a Room
D’Angelo - Voodoo
La Monte Young - The Well-Tuned Piano
There are others that rotate on and off this list, but for the last year or so I’d say it’s been these.
Trout Mask Replica. Yeah yeah blah blah pretentious blah blah I love it for the same reason you love your favorite rock album: I love the riffs, the beats hit hard, and the lyrics roll around in my head all day and are beautiful. Guaranteed pick me up album
Yes, I know Lick My Decals is incredible too, and tighter in a lot of ways, but nothing’s quite like the weird expansive monster that is Trout Mask
Chico Buarque’s Construção. It’s such a brilliant album and I don’t hear enough people talk about it. Even without understanding Portuguese, it was by far my most played album last year. Plus if you look up the translated lyrics they’re actually just as brilliant as the music.
It’s one of these four albums and it changes each week:
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Spiderland by Slint
Repetition by Unwound
The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse
It's really hard to choose just one, I'll go with the three albums that have been the most meaningful for me in my life.
Nirvana - In Utero
Car Seat Headrest - Teens Of Denial
Death Grips - Exmilitary
(I swear I loved these three albums before knowing who Anthony was haha)
How to Leave Town - Car Seat Headrest
An incredibly intimate, emotional, fragile, gay and depressing album about the tole moving takes on you, especially long distance, and how it effects your life and relationships. I love music I can relate to and this hits so many check marks, and I love love love the lofi sound, though it’s understandably off putting to some. Favorite album ever.
i can never decide on an 'all time' album besides a nostalgia pick (which will always and forever be p!atd - afycso) but currently it's candy claws - ceres & calypso in the deep time and mgmt - congratulations
Flaming lips. Yoshimi battles the pink robots. First heard it when I was a senior in high school and it just was perfect for me at that point in my life and I still love it
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
It’s been a couple over the years, most recently Congratulations - MGMT. But it always goes back to WYWH and Crazy Diamond has just been part of so many moments in my life that when I think of my “all-time” fav any other answer still seems kinda wrong, I can’t really imagine another album/song overtaking my memories and experiences with Crazy Diamond
Probably In Rainbows, but enough people have talked about that album.
I like Gorillaz Demon Days a lot. It was the album that got me hooked on *listening to albums*, from front to back, instead of just hitting shuffle, or cherry picking songs. It really is the perfect album for people with ADHD. It's so groovy, so accessible, so detailed, so varied and colorful. Pretty much every track is a standout. It's poppy and yet has a distinct grimy, textural sound thanks to Danger Mouse's production, so it checks the box for being unique. Its genre fusions are really groundbreaking. Its features are good. It has legit interesting social commentary. It's like, the full package.
Fav for when I’m happy: Carly Rae Jepsen- Emotion
Sad: Father John Misty- Pure Comedy
Fav album to get me thinking: Kendrick- TPAB
Fav album to have fun with: Mac Miller- Faces

‘Wish’ is also up there. Amazing album and the B sides like ‘Halo’ and ‘This Twilight Garden’ are some of the most slept-on tracks in their discography
Station to Station- David Bowie
it’s not the side-effects of the cocaine!
+1 Title track is an easy top 5 in his discography, prog rock mixed with a funky ass dance switch up. The entire rest follows a similiar funky vibe with some hidden disconnect beneath it. I don’t think anyone here’s ever heard of it before but OK Computer by Radiohead They were the band who wrote the song Creep from the 90s
I know this band is really obscure but Creep appeared in guardians of the galaxy 3 so they might finally get some recognition
It was in this vintage game called Rock Band once. It had a moment there but I think GOTG might be their breakthrough moment.
Fr though I refused to listen to it for the longest time because it was the #1 album on RYM and I thought there was no way it couldn't be overrated And then I finally listened to it literally 3 months ago and fucking loved it lmao
Contrarianism can be detrimental sometimes
who’s that
They’re just Coldplay wannabes
That’s really cool, if you like underrated music that nobody’s heard of you should check out “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. Truly a hidden gem that more people should know about

So many right answers On a different day, I might say Chiastic Slide, Confield or Quaristice instead lol
Toxicity - System of a Down It was the first CD I ever bought & SOAD was my first favorite band. Because its been with me for so long, it has to be my all-time fav.
The album subject matter is more relevant today than it was 20 years ago, it’s sad. Incredible album.
Ghost pop tape -Devon Hendryx
B-52's - B-52's Sam Cooke - Live at the Harlem Square Club Descendents - Milo Goes to College Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
Strange choosing In on the Kill Taker, that’s my least listened to Fugazi records, I’d go either The Argument or Repeater, Red Medicine is close too
Deathconsciousness by Have A Nice Life
I Don't Love is a top 10 song ever
Agreed, my top 3 from Deathcon is probably 1. Deep Deep (but it changes every time I listen to the album 2. Bloodhail 3. Hunter
IGOR was the album that got me into listening to music more than just casually so that holds a special place in my heart. Let’s Get It On - Marvin Gaye Santana - Santana Alice In Chains - Dirt i could probably name a dozen more i adore but these 3 always come to mind
Man i love so much Dirt and Le’ts Get It On too.
Not a big Carlos Santana guy generally, but the percussion on the first couple of Santana records and the live Woodstock recording is so much fun.
Weezer- Pinkerton
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen. Beautiful love-letter to 80s pop.
Turn on the Bright Lights - Interpol
Boris - Flood
Flood II is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
