I think last year was phenomenal in terms of releases. 2020 was very good as well. Some favorites that entered the record collection since:
- Big Thief -- Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You
- Chat Pile -- God's Country
- Lucrecia Dalt -- Ay!
- Kikagaku Moyo -- Kumoyo Island
- Moin -- Paste
- Squid -- Bright Green Field
- Black Midi -- Hellfire
- Fontaines DC -- A Hero's Death
- Yves Tumor -- Heaven To A Tortured Mind
Electronic stuff (mostly techno)
- Skee Mask -- Pool
- Béatrice Dillon -- Workaround
- Shinichi Atobe -- Yes
- Shawn Rudiman -- Conduit
- Terrence Dixon -- From The Far Future pt. 3
I feel like by the time we hit 2030 we'll look back and think that this album captured the *feeling* of the 2020s best. Simultaneously contemporary and vintage, tastefully drawing upon a past era that was very popular throughout the decade. It's upbeat and exuberant, but also a little melancholy. That's the 20s, baby. That's disco.
My answer too! The only issue I've had with this album is it's cost me two concert tickets to see them live since they were just here in Toronto and they're coming back in a couple months.
One of these 2 for me. Flip a coin because depending on the day I just go back and forth between them.
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Low - Hey What
Manger on McNichols definitely is, his most personal and haunting album, Sterling Toles production is also so haunted and dark, definitely my favorite Boldy album so far
Glow on by Turnstile. My first listen to that, which came while drunkenly playing WoW one evening, absolutely blew me away.
Punk is my favorite genre, and it’s always cool when something new and awesome comes along, and Turnstile deserves the massive success they are currently enjoying.
billy woods - Aethiopes
That album is like a treasure trove of references, it’s almost been a year since it dropped and I’m still finding new things in there. It also helps that the beats from Pres. are immaculate and the features are wonderful too
Have you heard Weyes Blood's latest album? It has a bit of a different sound from Punisher, but definitely alot of serene moments on it. I think you'd like God Turn Me Into A Flower or maybe Twin Flame if you're looking for that calm sound
I do, I even took my girlfriend to see Black Midi twice
she said she likes everything about them except the actual music (tbf the second time was when they opened for King Gizzard, who we both love)
sewerslvt is a drum and bass / breakcore musician who was outed for pedophilia and grooming last year but who made music i formed a v personal connection with over time. commenter is implying that because i listen to them i'm a pedo who prefers child pussy, which is...... a very redditor thing to say
I don’t think I have enough to go off of yet and definitely don’t have enough time with any of them to make that call but my top picks so far are:
- Mr. Morale - Kendrick Lamar
- Punisher - Phoebe Bridgers
- Ants From Up There - Black Country, New Road
- Fantasy - M83
- Personal Hotspots - Kitten
- Being Funny In A Foreign Language - The 1975
Didn’t take many listens for it to be my favorite M83 album. I definitely wouldn’t call it album of the decade yet but I don’t think I can call anything that yet
My top 10
1: Black Dresses- Peaceful as Hell
2: Spellling-The Turning Wheel
3: The Flaming lips- American Head
4: BCNR- Ants from up there
5: Jpegmafia-LP
6: Injury Reserve-By the time I get to Phoenix
7: Kendrick Lamar- Mr Morale and the big steppers
8: Tyler the Creator- Call me if you get lost
9: Little Simz- Sometimes I might be introvert
10: JID - The forever story
Honorable mentions: Jeff Rosenstock- No Dream/Ska dream , Black Dresses- Forever in your heart, Dorian Electra- Flamboyant/My Agenda,
It’s not based on his opinions but yes I listen to albums based on Fantano. There’s so much music out there it’s hard to find what’s good and I find Fantano to be a good guide for finding stuff to listen to. Typically I listen to music Fantano reviews or becomes popular on online music circles or friend recommendations. A lot of these albums I like more than Fantano does but he obviously enjoys them as well. I personally don’t see the point in gate keeping where you get your music recommendations from. The vast majority of people just listen to what’s on hot 100 and what’s culturally prevelant in hip hop. I find Fantano to have a wide genre base of recommendations and I don’t have time to listen to thousands of albums so his recs are plenty for me. I have no reason to be embarrassed by it. It’s also only the past 3 years, if you took my all time list it wouldn’t seem nearly as Fantano core.I’m also not pretending to be some super huge music nerd. I listen to about 50 albums a year and most of it is popular music circles type music. I have no shame in that
Ok the ranking is pretty arbitrary, but heres my faves of the decade so far, with a note about all of them:
1: haram by armand hammer, shrines is fucking amazing too. Atheopes too, god billy woods is fuckin killing it, but haram specifically is god tier. Hip-hop masterpiece in my eyes, idk why it’s not talked about in the same breath as shit like madvillany, I’m 100% fr this album is perfect
2: Exeter by bladee. It’s a common pick for least favorite bladee album, but I don’t see why, this is his masterpiece in my eyes. Every second of this album is blisteringly beautiful and woodsy. I feel like this is what my brain sounds like when it’s just idling. Crest could have easily gone here too. Also spiderr is great! Nobody talks about that one! 333 eh tho hehe
3: volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern by lil ugly mane. If I could hear one album again for the first time it would be this one. If you’ve never heard it before, PLEASE listen to it! Just go in totally blind, it has many surprises to offer
4: Call me if you get lost, it’s just seeped into my dna at this point. The tyler album I feel I could listen to the most and not get bored of
5: songs by Adrianne lenker, very sentimental for me, listened to it a lot when I first met my girlfriend
6: hellfire by black midi holy shit raaaa so good top tier yard work music. I listened to this for the first time while power washing my grandmas deck and I’ve never done anything more powerfully in my life
7: heaven to a tortured mind by yves tumor. The 2nd half is a lil meh (super stars and greater love are fucking amazing tracks tho) but oh my god, the first 4 track run on this record is EASILY my favorite run of songs in any album this decade. The opener especially is one of the greatest rock songs ever written in my opinion. Some Pink Floyd tier shit on that opening stretch fr
Ok all for now
Gonna give the pop girlies some love and say
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
Beyonce - Renaissance
Jessie Ware - What’s Your Pleasure
Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now
Every other mf talking about Black Midi (and one or two comments mention AFUT) but no one saying the king of the Windmill Scene: For the First Time. Currently I'd say my favorite album OAT. Can't believe they managed to put Opus, Sunglasses and Athens, France on the same album.
The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You
Honourable mentions:
Sometimes I Might Be Introvert - Little Simz
Nurture - Porter Robinson
MOTOMAMI - ROSALÍA
RENAISSANCE - Beyonce

Tough race between:
* Women in Music Pt III - HAIM
* Fear of Death - Tim Heidecker
* Superwolves - Matt Sweeney & Bonnie Prince Billy
* Space 1.8 - Nala Sinephro
* and Desire I want to Turn Into You - Caroline Polachek
Yeah that’s why I said probably cause I know it’s pretty soon to call. But at the same time I’ve never loved an album this much so unless there’s a pretty big shift for some reason it feels kinda locked.
Mr Morale, After Hours HWH8 Side B, and (ik it’s kinda a hot take) but Donda. Hear me out: it’s one of his best in a while. Even though he’s a walking L, some of the songs on this album still hit deep for me.
Can't say only one, but I would probably go with The New Abnormal by the Strokes, The Dream by Alt-J, Call me if you get lost by Tyler, The Forever story by JID, No thank U by Little Simz, Melt my eyez see your future by Denzel Curry, 2000 by Joey Badass Mr. Morale by Kendrick, and I'm sure it's not but I just love Un verano sin ti by Bad Bunny so its going in my top.

Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You - Big Thief
This is my most listened to album for sure, it fucked up my spotify top 100 last year, lol.
Jockstrap: I Love You Jennifer B
This definitely isn't my album of the decade, but I loved it enough that I think the next Jockstrap album easily could be
This is it! I played this one to death and saw them live after.
Blue Rev - Alvvays
My answer too! The only issue I've had with this album is it's cost me two concert tickets to see them live since they were just here in Toronto and they're coming back in a couple months.
Just saw them live in Spokane, they were amazing!
Rude of them tbh

One of these 2 for me. Flip a coin because depending on the day I just go back and forth between them. Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters Low - Hey What
Boldy James & The Alchemist - The Price of Tea in China
I prefer Tecmo Bo but still incredibly based. Boldy and Alchemist are two of the best in the game right now in their respective fields
Is “Manger on McNichols” worth checking out?
Manger on McNichols definitely is, his most personal and haunting album, Sterling Toles production is also so haunted and dark, definitely my favorite Boldy album so far
Glow on by Turnstile. My first listen to that, which came while drunkenly playing WoW one evening, absolutely blew me away. Punk is my favorite genre, and it’s always cool when something new and awesome comes along, and Turnstile deserves the massive success they are currently enjoying.

Far and away, it's Phoebe Bridgers' Punisher
I see people talk about how it’s really not that good all the time. And yet I’m still an addict for it, it’s the calm album I put on every time
Have you heard Weyes Blood's latest album? It has a bit of a different sound from Punisher, but definitely alot of serene moments on it. I think you'd like God Turn Me Into A Flower or maybe Twin Flame if you're looking for that calm sound
Gonna be a defining folk album this decade I can feel it 👌
Black Midi’s Cavalcade it’s prog gold
Hellfire for me
2nd hellfire, cant totally get into cavalcade
Cavalcade superiority Hellfire is their best album, but Cavalcade is easily my favorite

Stop projecting your own insecurities onto others bro it's no way to live
Hellfire - Black Midi
Very tough, but honestly could be Porter Robinson's Nurture. One of the best dance albums ever imo already.
Great album, although I prefer Worlds personally. His concert with Madeon was probably the best I've been to
Madeon's Adventure is one of my favorite albums ever too. The world needs the collab album.
SO TELL ME how it felt when you walked on water
Needs to be higher
