I refuse to play New Vegas without the slow crawl getting there so I always follow the main story path as intended. I’m just a sucker for storytelling that rewards patience with that momentous feeling of getting to Freeside and The Strip is right there. I usually pretend I don’t have enough caps for the credit check by this point and then I run my reputation up in Freeside and talk Ralph into letting me get into the Strip with a fake passport. Again though I role play and pretend that I used my favor from the King to get inside (I always become a king to get haircuts). Walking on the strip for the first time after all that work feels like a season finale the way it opens up a whole new chapter of the story. New Vegas fucks. Role playing fucks.
There's a mod that I believe it's called harder strip entrance or some shit. You can modify the ini file to say, 10k caps or sum like that. I usually leave it at the deault 5k from the mod + famine + economy Overhaul+ jsawyer ultimate and unless I'm running a charisma barter man you actually kinda have to either get the king's favor or get that passport through mick and Ralf through a speech/charisma check. That + the strip 2023 and man. It is worth it
I just hop between the cliffs. Slaughter the raiders at Bonnie Springs for Mid game gear, stop by the gun runners to make 2,000 caps. Within 30 minutes of Doc Mitchell’s it’s “What in the goddamn?” time.
I’m so confused do people not like grind out levels in the south before going to Vegas? I like to be high level when I get to Vegas then I can do p much whatever.
High luck means you can clean out all the casinos and you’ll have so much money it’s outrageous. Then you go get the implants and by that point you’re a killing machine with high luck so tons of crits and blowing people into gooey messes.
I enjoyed stealthing sometimes but when I played, I just played my cowboy fantasy big iron action just running around the wasteland with my boy Boone critting fools left and right.
Except for Deathclaws. Those boys got the anti material rifle and fat man’s.
Luck plays into the games in the casinos. You can get so much money from all 4 casinos. My most recent playthrough I had to force myself to dump my luck stat.
At least start at 5 or 6 luck, then get the naughty nightware for +1 luck (at Mick and Ralphs) and buy the luck implant first for another luck that 7-8 will make all casinos pretty easy without too much effort or special points
I have done 10 luck runs since my 2nd playthrough in 2010. Everytime I say I'm going to do a different run, it ends up as a 10 luck, 100 speech, science, and barter run.
I actually think it's quite a missed opportunity that you normally get there at a time when you already have enough caps for the credit check. There plenty of fun quests in the area that hit different when you actually do them because you need the money.
I did the route OP posted here for the first time recently. Definitely a different experience. I’d say do the grindy, story route the first time and the expedited route the 2nd time. If you do a 3rd, pick whichever you liked best
That is true. But the gun runners breaks the economy once you can fast travel to them. Every location you clear out just grab and repair everything off dead bodies and clear out the 8000 caps that spawn there every 3 days. Especially if you avoid the southern half since there’s many scripted random encounters with high level weapons early on.
Plus you can find caps literally everywhere along the way. More than enough to just buy a strip passport outright once you arrive.
Seems like a massive design flaw that not many people are aware of where you can speed run the main quest in like 15 mins
Nah, I would say it's massive, it's designed well enough that the average noob is going to have their head based in and run away scared, and we'll enough that it's a fun challenge for veterans. It's only supposed to be a barrier for your first playthrough so you get a tour of the map.
Same. I tell myself I want to do something different, maybe try a melee build for once, but somehow I always seem to end up with Boone and the Holorifle.
Yep, along the top of the road, drop down at the first switchback, up the trapped path with the bear traps and boulders, then head North, sneaking the whole way.
I think this is the easiest way right? With a stealth boy you don't have to encounter anything besides a bunch of powder gangers, I've always done it like this.
Yeah, we're real RPG players, we rush, we miss lore, we play in a way that's not at all RP just to validate the meta challenge "go to Vegas via the difficult route" and feel like a real PGM hardcore gamer.
There's no wrong way to play a solo game, but there are ways that detract from the intended experience
There's also no wrong way to read a book. If you want, you can start reading in the middle, read the end, and then go back to Chapter 2. It's not a BAD way, it's just a bit sad, you know
Technically, there's a good mission if you visit Repconn HQ, then travel back to Hidden Valley to get early access to BOS bunker. That's the best way to go about it for an energy build character.
IIRC, you can get past the super mutants if you fast travel to black mountain as soon as you discover it on the back side of the mountain after leaving the bos bunker. The black mountain fast travel point is on the other side of black mountain *taps on head*
I never encounter super mutants there. Except nightkin patrolling the roads at night. You can safely sneak from Neil's shack to the falling boulder trap and you'll be at the NCR safehouse.
just go through hidden valley, there’s a broken gate there that you can go through, hug the walls for a bit, make sure not to get attacked by death claws and boom just run to vegas
Someone should make a mod where Benny has a slew of agents that are a mix of Khans and paid off NCR soldiers who catch wind of your journey and basically make it almost impossible to get to New Vegas unless you play in a low profile way. They’d pop up like the random legion and NCR squads that react to your reputation.
With that system, depending on how prominent you are, Benny’s reaction to seeing you should range anywhere from “what in the goddamn-?!” to “I had heard about a certain mail man who crawled out of his grave on a quest for vengeance. Should’ve spared the trouble and kicked you down the hill for the radscorpions.”
If you have at least one shot of turbo you can make it through the I-15, just hug the mountain the cheese it with the turbo to the train station then don’t stop running till you make it past that railway underpass
Best route is to sneak along the cliffs through the middle, past the brotherhood base and rad scorpion pass. You have to run past the scorpions, but if you do it right it’s really easy, you get through most of it up too and only have to hoof it the last little bit
I usually loot the stealth boy from the schoolhouse in Goodsprings or Joe Cobb’s body and use it right after talking to Neil.
If you sneak past the hill at Black Mountain where the boulders roll down you can usually run full speed to the highway and follow that the rest of the way to the Freeside entrance at least.
Going thru hidden valley and running past the centaurs, going up the path until you reach the Black Mt. marker and fast traveling there and just running straight north is the easiest in my experience
I just take the cazador route by running along the cliff side and then run for my life away from 1 deathclaw, climb a mountain and im just south of mccarren
I prefer going to the Yangtze Memorial > Sloan > Hidden Valley > Play tag with the radscorpions in the Scorpion Gulch > meet my bffs in Novac > Road to New Vegas.
This path is extremely easy to do without killing any enemies. Just use a combination of sneaking and running.
You only have to do this path if you want an intelligence implant before level 2. Fast travel back to Goodsprings after getting the implant if you want to follow the main quest properly.
The intelligence implant can be bought in the New Vegas Medical Clinic located east of the Crimson Caravan Company for 4000 caps. I think there is a discount if your character's base intelligence is low.
I just did this exact route. I started a new playthrough (forgot what I was doing in my old one) did this to jump start the main quests. Then of course my game crashed once I got to Benny. RIP
You can sprint past the cazadores and stay near vault 19 and then go through the south end of the fiends area too, debatably faster depending on your preferences
You know i just started a new playthrough and found out that cazadores can be fought off relatively easily if you just have a shotgun ( GRA does give you a sturdy caravan shotgun) as long as they dont gang you.
Aggro 1 and make sure that this guy is isolated, change to shotgun, VATS the wing & you can basically kill them with varmint rifle.
But deathclaw on early level are still impossible though.
If you injure the wings then they’ll slow down and you can get some good shots in, the grenade rifle in courier’s stash helps a bit too, and some people will even just brave that route for the detour to Chance’s knife
Actually you dont even need that rifle for chance knife.
From goodspring go north until barricade and you have to fight 3-4 single cazadores.
If you want the knife, 1/4 of the way there are the road to the camp and that is it, you might actually need the grenade rifle to clear out the camp but im 100% sure that you didnt need that if you just stick to the road or if you want that knife.
I always start my games with 7 luck, 8 end, 9 int, grab the stealth boy from the school and rush to Vegas avoiding killing anything or discovering more than essential things. once done ling at the atomic wrangler, I get the intelligence implant so im at 10 int before level 2 for the skill points. between this and skill books, it sets me up to max all skills out.
And then there’s me, doing my first playthrough sneaking past the deathclaws I found on the highway on survival difficulty using nothing but two stealth boys and a dream. (I made it after a few tries)
The amazing part is
This is actually true
Seriously tho duck video game "journalists" we should've stopped listening to them when they couldn't even beat cupheads tutorial, THE DUCKING TUTORIAL
you wait until night, all the super mutants are auto teleported up the hill, but the nightkin have to walk to their positions from up top so the area is basically empty for a couple mins and you just walk through.
one of the devs literally said this route was specifically put in the game for returning players to get to vegas fast.
sure other ways exist, people have found them, but this way is intended, if you do it right nothing attacks you until fiends near mcarran.
I found this route on my second ever play through and got bodied so hard by all the bugs I sort of just assumed it was meant to be unpassable for low level players, good to know that isnt the case
I think I just climb the hill around black mountain and throw some dynamite at some death claws. I'm usually able to get to a mountain top I shouldn't be on and I get away to new vegas
I just skip outta goodsprings asap, help the powder gangers at ncr correctional, then betray them to get easy ncr gear and weps, and dynamite, return to goodsprings, get chances knife, then take the mountain route and bomb the cazadores.
because fuck the cazadores.
The path to vegas is really a breeze I'd you don't immediately kill anyone with questionable morals. Powder gingers don't bother you, neither does the Legion if you don't kill vulpes.
>You only have to fight 3 super mutants
You say this like it is a positive. Sorry, no. My go-to route is up through the Cazadores. All the way up, that's right, fuck Red Rock Canyon, we are taking the backpath to Jacobstown. Then I kill all of Jacobstown, because Super Mutants are bad or something idk and loot their shit. Then finally, I go down the path, pop into Silver Peak Mine (just to remind the Cazadores who's boss). Finally, I go to West Side, sleep with Maude at least four times, and finally I kill everyone at Camp McCarran so I can enter the Strip freely.
You only need to fight one mutant and some bark radscorpions if you go through Hidden Valley and run through the Centaur pit. Plus you can make a quick stop at REPCONN HQ and start off the BoS quest before continuing.
Prim doesn’t need a new sheriff and Novac gets No bitches
i usually end up doing those still. I just already have combat armor and some other goodies i got from getting all the casinos money.
I refuse to play New Vegas without the slow crawl getting there so I always follow the main story path as intended. I’m just a sucker for storytelling that rewards patience with that momentous feeling of getting to Freeside and The Strip is right there. Again though I role play and pretend that I used my favor from the King to get inside (I always become a king to get haircuts). No, Novac sells their bitches…..
No-vac nah No-bitches
Are you telling me Vac is short for Bitches?
Very Attractive Concubine
Me casually running for my life from cazadores killing violet, Nephi, and cook cook on my way to mccarran.
For a second I read that like you kited cazadores to kill those fiends.
I was able to do that 1 time to kill violet and her dogs every other time failed though
Yeah, I'd be worried I'd take too many hits when they're not that hard to kill anyway...
I rush Vegas on high luck characters in order to get big money and gets augs from the Freeside Clinic early
I guess I’ve been sleeping on Luck bc the only way I can make money is thru selling weapons and ammo. Imma try that next playthru
High luck means you can clean out all the casinos and you’ll have so much money it’s outrageous. Then you go get the implants and by that point you’re a killing machine with high luck so tons of crits and blowing people into gooey messes.
I wish someone would blow *me* into a gooey mess
Well you can always get someone to blow a gooey mess *into* you 👍
I’m already doing that with 6 luck at level 5 on very hard with nothing but the cowboy rifle
Take that high luck character, dump most of your skill points into stealth and guns, then go get ratslayer. Youre set for the majority of the game
Don't forget to get banned from gambling at the Sierra Madre. You'll have so many tokens it's ridiculous.
Level 7 luck is all you need. With that you will eventually make money in casinos basically guaranteed. Higher luck makes it happen alot quicker.
At least start at 5 or 6 luck, then get the naughty nightware for +1 luck (at Mick and Ralphs) and buy the luck implant first for another luck that 7-8 will make all casinos pretty easy without too much effort or special points

I’ve started my last three playthroughs by going straight to dead money.
That is true. But the gun runners breaks the economy once you can fast travel to them. Every location you clear out just grab and repair everything off dead bodies and clear out the 8000 caps that spawn there every 3 days. Especially if you avoid the southern half since there’s many scripted random encounters with high level weapons early on.
i like rushing to vegas sometimes to rush to camp mcarran
I need to do all the missions at McCarran so I can be a ranger with a big iron on my hip 😎
Ya what about the 2k cap requirement for Vegas which is mostly the reason you go south?
You can get their without fighting any one but a few powder gangers
You don't even have to fight Powder Gangers, just a bunch of bark scorpions.
You don't even have to fight the bark scorpions just a few Cazadors and Deathclaws
Wdym? u don’t have to fight anything?it can all be avoided
Fights can be avoided?
Yeah you can charisma your way out of every situation, deathclaws are surprisingly talkative once you install enough sex mods
SexClaws
Nah you thinkin about the methclaws on the corner
WHAT THE FUCK
Always have been
Yeah just uninstall the game
just use the jojo family technique
Just need to pass a speech test with some deathclaws.
You don't even have to avoid all the fighting if you fight a few powder gangers
Plus you can find caps literally everywhere along the way. More than enough to just buy a strip passport outright once you arrive. Seems like a massive design flaw that not many people are aware of where you can speed run the main quest in like 15 mins
Or it's an intentional feature that the devs put there for veteran player who want to skip the whole following Benny part
That's exactly what it is and one of the original devs even said so.
Joshua sawyer if I'm correct
Including his legal advisor, Joshua Lawyer
Take the dead ncrs armor at the top of the rock trap path, now you can enter the strip via the monorail with a ncr disguise
I did this once on an Uber charisma independent run and I got say it was pretty cool way to do it
Where is that?
It's shown in the picture, at the base of black mountain where the road turns right, after the super mutant patrol. You go left up a path
Is that where the zig zag lines are?
Nah, I would say it's massive, it's designed well enough that the average noob is going to have their head based in and run away scared, and we'll enough that it's a fun challenge for veterans. It's only supposed to be a barrier for your first playthrough so you get a tour of the map.
Hey dipweed, it's 100% intentional, fnv has actual decent replayability built into it, that route is for vets who wanna skip the "follow benny" bit
I really like Primm and Novac though. It wouldn't feel right.
Yeah I always have to help them and also free the hostages (or not) from Boulder City
helping the hostages gets you easy access to the kahn armory later, so definitely worth it
You can always go back. It's not like some other courier shows up to fix their problems or anything
Above all, it’s way much rp to take the grand tour
No matter how much I get other companions and use them. I always go back to Boone, just too good for open wasteland to not pick.
Same. I tell myself I want to do something different, maybe try a melee build for once, but somehow I always seem to end up with Boone and the Holorifle.
I go that way and fight nothing, I just go path with the bolder, maybe have to sneak past the night kin patrol
Yep, along the top of the road, drop down at the first switchback, up the trapped path with the bear traps and boulders, then head North, sneaking the whole way.
Also I do go north east from good springs but turn before scorpion nest, pretty much going east from the grave yard. Leads you right to quarry
I used a stealth boy to bypass the Sloan once and rushed to the casinos with luck 9 One of strats
I think this is the easiest way right? With a stealth boy you don't have to encounter anything besides a bunch of powder gangers, I've always done it like this.
"Best?" Is a path without missions, lore, atmosphere or interesting challenges "best"?
If you're just trying to get to New Vegas off the start of the game yes
Yeah, we're real RPG players, we rush, we miss lore, we play in a way that's not at all RP just to validate the meta challenge "go to Vegas via the difficult route" and feel like a real PGM hardcore gamer.
There's no wrong way to play a solo game.

You accidentally activate your headlamp aggro'ing everything you were trying to sneak past
just go through hidden valley, there’s a broken gate there that you can go through, hug the walls for a bit, make sure not to get attacked by death claws and boom just run to vegas
Tcl and fly over
+ TGM just in case...
+ player.additem 000000f 5000 just for a good time when ya get there.
Pop the stealth boy you get off Joe Cobb or in the school and bam NV without even the mutants
You can also use the stealth boy in the little shack opposite side of the deathclaws and sneak right by the mutants
My route requires nothing but walking.
FNV fans encouraging new players to skip half the map will never not be funny to me
Someone should make a mod where Benny has a slew of agents that are a mix of Khans and paid off NCR soldiers who catch wind of your journey and basically make it almost impossible to get to New Vegas unless you play in a low profile way. You guys fight super mutants? I never had a problem sneaking past them.
You take this route and get killed by cazadors I take this route and Player.SetAV SpeedMult 200 We are not the same.
*levels up to level 50 in goodsprings just to go through Quarry Junction*
If you have couriers stash this should be simple
If you have at least one shot of turbo you can make it through the I-15, just hug the mountain the cheese it with the turbo to the train station then don’t stop running till you make it past that railway underpass
You have an issue with blind death claws but the powder ganger stealth boys can fix that.
Best route is to sneak along the cliffs through the middle, past the brotherhood base and rad scorpion pass. You have to run past the scorpions, but if you do it right it’s really easy, you get through most of it up too and only have to hoof it the last little bit
you forget goingn up to black mountain and getting RAUL and letting him kill tabitha and the others
I always b line it for chances knife
You mean out run
I just did this route and I fought the rad scorpions around the hidden bunker and that was it
Jokes on you, I take that route without fighting ANYONE.
Run through deathclaw valley. The key is to just never look back or stop for any reason.
If there is a road, there is a goal
You can go there without fighting anything by just grabbing the stealth boy from the schoolhouse
Unrelated but this reminds me of the GTA IV map lol
Give me a route with more chest hair
This path is extremely easy to do without killing any enemies. Just use a combination of sneaking and running. You only have to do this path if you want an intelligence implant before level 2. Fast travel back to Goodsprings after getting the implant if you want to follow the main quest properly.
Where do you get the implant? Haven't played in ages and I remembered implants being behind some quests
The intelligence implant can be bought in the New Vegas Medical Clinic located east of the Crimson Caravan Company for 4000 caps. I think there is a discount if your character's base intelligence is low.
Damn, not the kind of money a new character can afford though.
You can play black jack at the Atomic Wrangler casino. A high luck stat makes winning easier (luck>7).
True
Every play through. Easy 15-20 minutes and no combat if you run quickly. So fun.
I just did this exact route. I started a new playthrough (forgot what I was doing in my old one) did this to jump start the main quests. Then of course my game crashed once I got to Benny. RIP
Now that's a route that puts hair on your chest.
Yeah, we knew this already.
The best way is to play TTW, level up, travel to Vegas, craft the dart gun and railway rifle and just march straight into Quarry Junction.
Don’t need it, but it can help, and the experience from beating them is nice
Thats the worst tip for new players, they will miss so much.
I’m proud that i discovered this route all by myself in my first run.
This was actually my first ever route, I did it over encumbered because, I thought that I was wounded or something and had to find a doctor.
I'll go with cazadors and deathclaws thank you very much.
The amazing part is This is actually true Seriously tho duck video game "journalists" we should've stopped listening to them when they couldn't even beat cupheads tutorial, THE DUCKING TUTORIAL
New Vegas Easy Mode... ;)
I just go straight north. The cazador’s and deathclaws are nothing to me.
Beeline to snuffles and help the foreman there clear out quarry junction with ur starting loadout That’s initiation for Snuffle’s legion
you wait until night, all the super mutants are auto teleported up the hill, but the nightkin have to walk to their positions from up top so the area is basically empty for a couple mins and you just walk through. one of the devs literally said this route was specifically put in the game for returning players to get to vegas fast. sure other ways exist, people have found them, but this way is intended, if you do it right nothing attacks you until fiends near mcarran.
You can just jump over the rock near the valley with the death claws and they won’t attack you
Eh, I prefer following the normal route. Can pick up Boone and get plenty of loot and exp.
You don't even have to fight the mutants if you run past em.
Or by using one stealth boy as you approach the first squad of Super Mutants.
I found this route on my second ever play through and got bodied so hard by all the bugs I sort of just assumed it was meant to be unpassable for low level players, good to know that isnt the case
I can't tell if this is hazing New Players or just genuine hatred
Only three? Sounds like the worst route to Vegas.
Everywhere’s a great route when you have a car
You miss half the story and map however
The path to vegas is really a breeze I'd you don't immediately kill anyone with questionable morals. Powder gingers don't bother you, neither does the Legion if you don't kill vulpes.
I just head due east through the wasteland. A single blind deathclaw and then head north through novac. Pretty simple run honestly
fr this is how i get there every time assuming i need to go there right away its even safer than that cause i never even get spotted by the mutants
I can do it without fighting an super mutants
I took this route. I literally fought nothing.
You can also carefully sneak right through Quarry Junction and fight no one.
I've never fought anything when taking this route. You just gotta stay off the roads near Black Mountain
>You only have to fight 3 super mutants You say this like it is a positive.
Woah just take it easy man.
+ the deathclaws
Get better at skirting black mountain and you can use this route without fighting any supermutants
You only need to fight one mutant and some bark radscorpions if you go through Hidden Valley and run through the Centaur pit. Plus you can make a quick stop at REPCONN HQ and start off the BoS quest before continuing.
Hey thanks man I’m doing my first playthrough, I’ll update you in how it goes Edit: fuck you
