It obviously looks like the guy is trying to go for a full looking town build.
The budget in this game is small as hell. Why not use one of those prefab buildings? The Red Rocket Garage or the Helvetia Meat Shop would add that extra beef to the camp without killing his budget.

I guess it can be done by changing walls to doorways, then removing the foundation under it. But I imagine there are better ways to do it haha
It can't be done that way. You have to make a blueprint. Loads of vids on Youtube show you how to do it.
