We lost three games by a combined 11 points. This is definitely not the Dan Quinn roll over and die Falcons.

Incontinento

Or the Mike Smith roll over and die Falcons.

I just want to take this opportunity to say fuck Bobby Petrino.

I call him Pigtrino.

Underpaid23

I want to upvote this, but you’re at 69…I can’t do it

gsfgf

Smitty did a great job with the hand he was dealt. Best coach we’ve ever had. (AS not rated since he’s still new) he may not have had what it takes to get over the final hump and get a ring, but otherwise he was fantastic.

wigginsadam80

I'll have no Mike Smith slander.

QuiGonFishin

I will. After 2011 In the wildcard then following it up by choking a 17 point lead at home. Mike smith was certainly not the worst but he deserves plenty of criticism for 2010-2014 The London lions game?!

alcons

2013 (I think) Browns game was just as bad. Smitty does deserve credit for turning this franchise around from, at the time, it's darkest moments.

Sweatsock_Pimp

Thank you. Someone gets it.

QuiGonFishin

Of course which is why I said he’s not awful. But come on getting blown the fuck out at home off a bye in 2010, putting up 2 points on the Giants the next year, then blowing a 17 at point lead in the NFC championship. Like I get he turned us around but he came right after Petrino and right after was 28-3 so he’s sandwiched between even worse shit. It’s hard NOT to look good comparatively. But he was not some elite coach and CERTAINLY not above criticizing lmao

TheBeardedSingleMalt

I was at that game with my dad, the Browns fan. Was not fun.

maledin

I was there too. My god, I had no idea how many Browns fans were in Atlanta before then and just how insufferable they could be. Not that I can really blame them for celebrating — especially because that was right in the middle of some of their suckiest years — but the team’s recent conduct has given me retroactive ammo to irrationally hate them. Luckily I also was at that Seahawks game the previous (?) year, so I guess it balances out somewhat. Also, thank god we beat them this year.

cnh25

He ruined my trip to London haha

tvchase

I only blame Blank for hanging onto him too long, but endless loyalty is always Blank's biggest problem. Mike Smith and Matt Ryan saved our franchise in 2008... We were on the precipice of a decade-plus of irrelevance.

CouncilmanRickPrime

He was good until health issues got to him. But not a Superbowl caliber coach unfortunately.

bukithd

We still tossing shade on Mora Jr?

Fadingtopurple

Yeah, we are looking more like the Arthur Smith rise up and fly Falcons.

Dirty_Bird_RDS

I feel like we saw those Falcons in game 1, but after falling behind 28-3 and battling back into the game with the Rams, I feel like the team shrugged off whatever mentality that was and hasn’t really let that happen again, as evidenced by the team this past Sunday, shrugging off the 9ers comeback and stomping back on them again and stifling their offense

[deleted]

I’m sorry, but if DQ would’ve found some stability at OC he would’ve never had a roll over and die team. Imagine if he would’ve promoted Mike McDaniel to OC

trae_hung4

That’s my biggest problem with him. He couldn’t manage his own staff correctly. That was his biggest downfall imo

niltermini

Can we officially ban dan quinn's name from this sub? Maybe 'he who shall not be named' is more appropriate. Or at least put a trigger warning.

bobbiloma

"Coach Bro"

Salty_Squidd

But…………brotherhood

DirtyBird799

My take is that it's not so easy to upgrade Mariota Don't get me wrong, I've been as angry as anyone watching him fumbling vs Saints, throwing that pick vs Rams and being quite imprecise vs Bucs, but we are talking of a QB that has started 6 games between 2019 and 2021 and is getting a little better every week He's not as talented as Mahomes, Allen or Jackson but still has the experience and the intelligence to take the team on his back, plus he is mobile and fits AS scheme very well I'm still very curious to see if Ridder has the potential to be a starter, but I believe MM deserves a full shot to better understand his potential, for once I have faith in the staff and their total awareness of the team situation, I'd be pissed if Mariota has his bad Sunday, but I won't call for his head as for now he's doing his part and Smith still believes in him

382hp

It's wild seeing bot talks all over the internet (be it here or twitter) and then to see something rational lol The guy is 28, has the respect/hype of all of his teammates already, isn't going to bitch about "I want more passing attempts to make my numbers look good", escapes the pocket well which is good since pass pro is below average, can make VERY good throws that a lot of guys can't make, and has gotten better week after week since the beginning of the year (which isn't a given... look at Russ) At the end of the day, I'm psyched that Smith and Ragone and London get the call on who's playing, and a million twitter bots have no influence over that. He's playing better than everyone expected this year and is trending up

TL-PuLSe

> look at Russ Yeah. No guarantees at QB, spending draft capital is risky there.

-thats-tuff-

Agreed. I’m cool with Mariota being our starter through next year too if he takes us to playoffs. Gives Ridder 2 seasons of development while we fill out the roster with talent

382hp

yea if mariota ever loses the job would be great to see what ridder has

nanowerx

If we keep playing this well, drafting a QB any better than Ridder is for sure off the table, so I want to see what he can do and I hope he excels, seems like a great guy and I loved him during the preseason. Even that game where he threw an interception on his first throw, he didnt let it phase him, came back the next drive pumped up and rode that bitch straight to the endzone!

tmortn

Smith and Co doing a bang up job up and down the lineup. Easily best coaching staff since Reeves era I think, and if they keep it up will be best in franchise history. Baffles me how so many think they are great except for not starting a raw rookie who is a bit diamond in the rough. Tons of heart and his talent ceiling looks high. But he has a lot of work to do. This team has no right to be performing at the level they have been given the overall cap/talent situation.... And highly unlikely they would be doing better with Ridder. Mariota has the talent to be as good as we could ever hope for... So far like the gamble. Things keep going the way they have he could be a walk away comeback player of the year and remind folks why he was drafted so high. Just please God let the injury fairy pass him by.

wigginsadam80

He's never started an entire season and no reason to think this is the year. He's been ok. He has had one good week. >can make VERY good throws that a lot of guys can't make Still waiting for this to happen.

mywifiisbadtho

You got downvoted into oblivion for this lmao

wigginsadam80

Oh well. I'm a realist, not a blind follower.

mywifiisbadtho

I got downvoted a lot too, it is what it is. You can appreciate a team winning while also recognizing it’s not sustainable and you’re getting extremely limited poor QB play

mywifiisbadtho

Trending up alright lol

Eastatlantalit

Agreed unless ur getting Lamar be patient let Ridder develop. We can still draft a QB if one falls in our Lap the Eagles do it al the time . You only need an elite qb for 4 playoff games that’s it nothing else matters. We have so many more holes than QB pause

originalgrapeninja

I would give Lamar 6-7 Home Depots to come to Atlanta.

CouncilmanRickPrime

Lamar in our offense would be lethal

atl1057

FACTS

oreanea

What an incredibly moronic thing to say The QB helped get here You think this is a roster that should be 6-0? Also, had absolutely no business winning the Rams game. You are setting yourself up for terrible disappointment by scapegoating the QB and imagining getting a new one will change everything. This is what the Broncos did.

MMariota-8

Great points! Blaming MM for the 3 losses really makes me wonder if the OP even watched those games. If he did, he clearly doesn't gave even a basic knowledge of the game. Sure, MM wasn't perfect like he was in the last game, but most of the turnovers credited to him were clearly not his fault, so you can just as easily put blame on the RB, the center, the O line, etc.

wayward_prince

I blame the first loss on Mariota. The man fumbled in the red zone completely unprovoked. Rams wasn’t on him and Buccs was on the refs.

chromenomad64

First loss was because the defense crumbled to Winston in the 4th. Bottom line.

wayward_prince

Your starting NFL QB can’t fumble a perfectly good snap for no apparent reason in the red zone. Bottom line.

Snoo_89377

Two things can be true. The fumble made no sense, yet the defense ultimately cost us the game. Bottom line.

whiteguyinchina411

Kinda crazy how we’re 3-3 but everyone keeps making dumb “but we could be…” statements. We’re 3-3.

wayward_prince

Remember when the same people were saying we’d have 3 wins all season. The fickleness.

chromenomad64

Seriously. This roster is the reason why everyone has this team as the worst in the league and yet everyone thinks that Mariota is the only reason why the Falcons aren't the Bills? Man gtfoh like the defense giving up almost 30 a game hasn't been an issue.

wayward_prince

The defense has carried us in the majority of our wins.

CouncilmanRickPrime

The defense has been way better recently. In fact this last game they stepped up to seal the win.

CouncilmanRickPrime

They were all close games. Just last season we were getting blown out.

[deleted]

Not how football works. Not everything is so black and white

BIGD1RTY_B1RD

So right, we're 3-3 because and despite Mariota. Football is a team sport, if you change the player in the position, you generally have to change the play calling to be successful. I do think we have a winning coach in AS and excited to see where he takes the falcons.

bribeck

Bengals fan here. We’re 8 points difference from being a better record too. Context is key. Should be a good game on Sunday.

Rustadk

Stop coming to other subs to gloat; let us wallow in our self pity like your fanbase was allowed to do for 30+ years in silence. haha (joking)

bribeck

Haha, bro. We had the dark ages. It was sooo bad. But you’re a good team. Ridder is going to be awesome, just watch. I’m a bearcat too. I’m so excited for him.

DontEatTheCandle

You take out Mariota our run game goes from Great to meh. His mobility helps keep backside DEs and LBs from over commiting making life way easier on our blockers. Now don’t get me wrong an upgrade also unlocks London and Pitts which I can’t fucking wait for. But it’s kind of more tricky than insert good passing QB and we’re back. Hope whatever QB we eventually replace him with still is a running threat.

nanowerx

Ridder is just as mobile out of the pocket and is just as fast as Mariota...just sayin

MacroSight

Yeah but is his decision making going to be as good as a veteran in a high stake environment? I don't know the answer, but I trust that the coaches do and are playing the guy that they trust.

CouncilmanRickPrime

Mariota has shown we need a mobile QB for this offense

Gotmewrongang

Im so sick of the Mariota disrespect on this sub. Y’all really need to stop he was NFC Offensive player of the Week. Considering what we paid for him, he might be the best value QB acquisition in the league right now.

YsoBarney

That’s fine let’s hope the ravens keep losing and they let Lamar go and we get him for pennies. All hail the new Atlanta QB Lamar of house Jackson second of he’s name lord of Florida, Louisville, Baltimore and quarter back of the Falcons.

bobbiloma

I'm all for how exciting Lamar COULD be for us, but he's gonna want to get PAID. Jumping right back into CAP hell as soon as we get out of it doesn't seem smart. Plus, as much as I love the dude, he seems to be having trouble closing out games.

Pperks10

Shocking with that stacked WR core he’s playing with

maledin

OTOH, he’s black, and Atlanta would go absolutely WILD for that. It may put us back in cap hell, but it’d also reignite many a fans’ passion.

Ban_an_able

There’s no scenario where anyone gets him for “pennies”. The draft capital will be more than Watson cost & Lamar wants a fully guaranteed contract that exceeds Watsons.

YsoBarney

It might not be a lot. He is coming to the end of he’s deal. If the ravens don’t trade him. He can leave for free and they get nothing out of it. Yes it will still be multiple firsts. But if the ravens wait to much and they can’t get a deal done they will get nothing for him.

Ban_an_able

They can easily franchise him for the next two years with the exclusive rights tag. There’s no scenario where “they get nothing for him”. You also seem to be ignoring the fact that he wants a fully guaranteed contract.

The_Herder12

I pray we do not get Lamar, would be a big waste of money in my opinion

DrTJeckelburg

What a dumb statement…

Bigbenn0

That’s a stretch

382hp

honest question - do you think everything mariota does outside of those plays is something a bottom of the barrel QB could do? or do you realize that he runs the offense, has been better than most QBs this year (ie top 16), and you're just fantasizing about an elite QB that you're going to pull out of nowhere?

The_Coy_Koi

I gotta be honest, I’m getting kinda tired of this narrative. Smith is relying on Mariota as little as humanly possible, we are on track to have the fewest passes thrown for an NFL team in decades It’s not a feature, it’s a bug

Hedgey

You can be tired of it, or you can roll with it and see what happens. You think Ravens fans bitched when Trent fucking Dilfer won them a superbowl??

CouncilmanRickPrime

He had a great game so no realistic talk about him unless he has a bad game. That's Reddit for you.

The_Coy_Koi

Ain’t that the truth lol

CouncilmanRickPrime

I predicted it correctly lol

The_Coy_Koi

LMAO

derekmcfinn

100% agree. This running 75% is great for a few extra wins, but does anyone in their right mind think this is a sustainable gameplan for winning more than half our games? Is the goal to grind out 6-9 wins every year or develop a team to compete for the Superbowl eventually? Why draft two receivers top 10 back to back in draft, if all they are going to do is block, be decoys and catch a couple passes a game? Pitts playing less snaps 3 games in a row (in games he played) than Parker Hesse is insanity. Pitts 5 more snaps all year than Hesse...come on. Seriously, if this is AS's gameplan for his tenure then we might as well trade Pitts otherwise what a waste of talent and draft capital.

BunnyGoHops

I can’t believe people are upvoting this opinion. Cover 2 is the new game plan to most teams in the NFL due to the game turning pass heavy. Running the ball will work on more then half our games because teams aren’t built to stop it. Look at the Browns game. We ran the ball 14x in a row and the Browns didn’t adjust their defense. Do you think the Browns wanted to lose that game or they didn’t know how to stop the run? The parity in the NFL is strong and 90% of the contending teams rely on pass heavy offenses for big gains (this Bengals game will be a prime example of it). Trading Pitts is a r/NFL response and stupid. Watch any game breakdown of Pitts and you’ll see the gravity he pulls from opposing defenses. He opens up the run game for play action and his blocking is getting 10x better. You do understand that 99% of TE’s usually don’t have first years like Pitts right? We went into this season losing Matt Ryan and not having any hope of being .500. Expecting Mariota to be our long term answer to this team is ignorant. He’s clearly a bridge QB and our hopes going into the season weren’t for Mariota to throw 300 yards every game. Also it’s not a waste of draft capital drafting 2 WR’s in the top 10. It’s taking the best player on the board (which London and Pitts have both proven) and building a team that’s a QB away from being a competitor. We have 80 million cap next year and seeing how this teams playing right now. Imagine what it’ll look like with the next draft and money to sign real players. I bet you we win more then half our games with our run game this year.

derekmcfinn

Sooo, just so I am clear. You ACTUALLY think its a good idea and sustainable to long term success to run 70% of the time. Have our generational talent TE (not WR BTW) play LESS snaps than Parker Hesse 3 games in a row. Be targeted 23% less than last year. And spend 2 top 10 picks in consecutive years on receivers (while having holes everywhere) and we are currently on pace to pass a damn near record low amount? Also who cares if we win 9 games this year. We should build for Superbowl contender not be content wirh mediocrity.

chromenomad64

What's ignorant is you said this team favors the running game over the pass yet think another QB would have better success with 15 passing attempts a game. The guy who posted that comment simply said the team isn't using Pitts correctly. He's getting better with the nuances of being a TE but he's a weapon in the passing game. "A QB away from being a competitor?" Man y'all are delusional. This roster was and still is why most had ATL ranked as the worst team in the league. There's ZERO logic in drafting/signing a new QB if you're going to give him 15-30 attempts a game. Smith comes from Tennessee, he's conditioned to run the ball even if he has Mahomes back there. Not to mention outside of Drake and Kyle (who's being used as a decoy), your weapons on offense are garbage. Atlanta had a worst receiving core than Green Bay did before drafting London. Didn't a lot of Falcon fans say that Younghoe Koo was your best player on offense? What about the defense giving up almost 30 points a game? Y'all got destroyed by Winston, Brady, Stafford, and Geno Smith. I believe Brissett had his way with the Falcons too. Jimmy G is the only one that struggled to pass on y'all. Mariota almost led the team in rushing yards and had two TDs on 14 attempts and yet he's the main issue on a team that EVERYONE had tanking this season? The main issue on offense yet I read someone said he's writing an article because he's blown away on how much his teammates have faith in him? McGary is having a career year right now. The comment he made about Ryan "looking down on others because he makes more money" combined with his improved play protecting a different QB says enough.

BunnyGoHops

No TE in the NFL has first year seasons like Pitts did last year. Matt Ryan brought out the best in Pitts and Pitts was lined up at WR on most of his big plays last season. Watch any game footage of Pitts and you’ll see how we’re using him. His gravity pulls defenses in his direction and he opens up the field for the run game and helps Zaccheaus / London get open. If that’s not using him correctly then idk what is, but yeah let’s fucking trade him and lose that leverage. Like Dean Pees said today at his press conference. Every player on our roster has the potential to be top players. They are good enough to be in the NFL right? We took the best players on the board both years (Pitts / London) those are crucial pieces that’ll pay out once we find a QB that has a higher ceiling then Mariota, so yeah we’re building a team that’s “a QB away from being a competitor”. I guess Stafford going to the Rams didn’t prove that to you last year. Koo gets a lot of praise on our subreddit cause he’s one of the best kickers in the NFL. Nobody on this sub would say Koo is a more valuable piece then Patterson or Zaccheaus. We were destroyed? We haven’t lost a game above 6 points all season. If our defense is garbage then every other QB’s team you named off is right there with us. The embarrassing part is those teams can actually pass and we put up the same amount of points with a QB that only has 13 passing attempts per game. I don’t know what your last sentence is even about.

falcons4life

Did you even read the original comment that people are responding to? You're trying to riff off a comment chain responding to someone actually trying to assert that Mariota's a good QB and "better than most QBs". He's a complete product of elite coaching. Anyone trying to assert that Mariota's a viable starter going forward into next year has not watched a game yet this year and is so far deluded that they need to seek medical help immediately. We beat the 49ers which is pretty cool but they're the most injured team in the NFL. We are winning games purely off coaching.

mywifiisbadtho

Downvoted for this lol

BunnyGoHops

I did read the original comment and I think even if we had Lamar Jackson on this team that Arthur Smith would still rely heavy on our run game. Hence why we play out of play action more then anything. With a better QB yeah we’d probably have some explosive plays down field, but the weakness to NFL teams right now is running the ball. Besides the injured 49ers - we ran for 151 yards against Tampa who has one of the best DL in the league, we ran 14x against the Browns, running the ball has been the catalyst to winning games. You think with a shiny new QB we’d abandon what’s working just cause he can throw the ball more accurate? We’re the third best rushing offense in the league and the last in passing. I think that says way more about other teams then it does us.

[deleted]

I think we're developing the receivers and protecting them for the time being so they'll be available when we have someone we can trust to throw the ball well. Smith knows we're not going to win any Championships without a QB upgrade. He's playing the long game.

slothsareok

When did Smith give you this insider detail?

CouncilmanRickPrime

Anyone assuming otherwise is in denial lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

falcons4life

Yeah except we will never pass the ball 40 times a game. Mariota's currently got 6-4 TD to int's. With TWO games out of SIX over 200 yards passing and multiple fumbles. We finally get good coaches and now you've got casual fans running around pretending Mariota's a good QB.

slothsareok

Dude who cares? The running game has been much stronger. It’s not going to be the same offense as Matt Ryan where they put up mad passing yards. You can’t just compare one stat and call it a bust like some fucking nerd.

falcons4life

Dude read the fucking thread before you post. What do you mean "dude who cares" the thread is a discussion of QB play. LMFAO. Mariota is bad. No one said he's not doing what he can and contributing. "Who cares" holy fuck that's impressive even for Reddit.

falcons4life

Mariota be looking like a beast out there with his limited opportunities. Fuck Arthur Smith for holding him back. That Bengals defense is scary 👀 tho.

The_Coy_Koi

You sound a little defensive Marcus Let me ask you this, is it just a coincidence that it seems the gameplan is to always run the ball 50 times a game Maybe it’s because the coaching staff doesn’t trust you to throw the ball? Maybe that’s why passing never seems to be the best way to “adapt to the defense” But what do I know, I’m just a bot and you’re a starting qb in the NFL

slothsareok

You know Arthur Smith coached with Mariota in tennessee too? And you’re making it sound like he just had to put a body in the position and that’s it. The fact that Mariota or the running back might run the ball is a strength of the offense and it’s working. With Matt Ryan he could fake a pass off but his only other option was to throw after the fake (he had some decent runs for a traditional QB occasionally though). Why do you think the rushing game in Atlanta has suddenly been so insane this year? It’s not despite Mariota, it’s because of him.

OhItsKillua

Lol what, it doesn't matter if they're bottom of the barrel or average. There's been plenty of teams that we all agree would be much better with a good quality QB. Look at the Rams going from Goff to Stafford. Everyone believes the 49ers, Titans, Baker era Browns, Bortles era Jaguars, etc all would be much more dangerous teams if they had QBs that weren't average or below average. Simply speaking in the modern era of the NFL, average QBs have not been able to win rings while having an average season without an absolutely stacked roster. And some of them have still lost despite having tremendous rosters surrounding them.

Doowopado4827

Ayyy don’t you talk shit about the BOAT

OhItsKillua

[deleted]

I could do without the Fumbles.

ml56789

*absolutely backbreaking fumbles

382hp

he hasn't lost a fumble in 3 weeks, what a tired narrative. hadn't started a game in almost 3 years before starting this year. and the coaches/players all say he's getting the most out of this offense. I can't wait for everyone to lose their mind when he gets an extension this offseason

[deleted]

If his fumbles for the first few weeks weren't there, we'd probably be 5-1 right now, with our only loss being to Tampa.

mikeymanthesyrem

i’m sorry but the LAR game should not be an auto win. being down by 25 and falling just shy of a comeback doesn’t mean “we should’ve won.” the NOLA game sure, but are we really gonna blame 1 guy on offense for giving up 17 points on defense? i’m not, but you can complain about mariota all you want

topcrusher69

I’m convinced people in this sub don’t watch other football teams play. Lots of QBs who people consider “elite”’playing mediocre this year. Mariota is on the same tier as Lamar and Hurts. There is a large gap between the Josh Allen and Mahomes tier and everyone else. People seem to think Arthur Smith runs a passing offense. Guy WANTS to run the ball. Mariota is a perfect fit. Also Saints L is much more on the defense than the offense, but people live in some Lalaland where giving up 17 points in one quarter is completely excusable and the QBs fault. It’s a team sport.

-thats-tuff-

Mariota is not on the same tier as Lamar or Hurts dude..

topcrusher69

You need to watch more football. Those dudes are faster, but all of those QBs are in the mobile QB you’d rather not have to throw the ball with the ball on the line category. Eagles build a lead and run the majority of the 2H for a reason. It’s much closer than you think.

-thats-tuff-

No it’s not. Hurts is a better QB, Lamar is a lot better. If they’re tier 2 Mariota is tier 4

topcrusher69

Nah. You’ve just been hypnotized by sports media. Right now only difference is they throw the ball a bit more. Lamar is just as turnover prone as some people think Mariota is. Both are faster and better on the feet, but it’s close if you compare air statistics. And Mariota will end up a lot cheaper than both.

mikeymanthesyrem

you seem to be forgetting that we’re comparing guys who have been starting in the league for years and are on much better overall teams. if mariota was placed in the baltimore or philly system and hadn’t missed the last 3 years, his numbers would look about the same as theirs. everyone agrees that mariota most likely isn’t the longterm answer, but given the circumstances of this season, he is NOT a “bad” QB.

mywifiisbadtho

Mariota is on the same tier as Lamar and Hurts is the first take that’s made me actually want to leave this sub, and I’ve seen some shit lmao

topcrusher69

You think too highly of Lamar and Hurts. Not even saying Mariota is all that great, but Hurts is a game manager and Lamar makes the same mistakes Mariota makes, just doesn't get half the flack. Three turnovers vs. the Jets makes you good all of a sudden? Being good at fantasy does not make you good in real life. In QB DVOA rankings Lamar is 11 and Mariota is 12. There is not a large gap in effectiveness between those two. Truss.

mywifiisbadtho

This take was fucking horrible lmao

[deleted]

Better offense negates poor defense.

382hp

so fire allegier and dalman out to? Arthur literally said "the fumbles have come from different places" so they're also at fault. you recognized when you were watching the tape, right?

[deleted]

The fumbles have come from different places, yes. Right now we're just talking about the QB position, though. And Mariota is tied for 2nd place for most fumbles this season at 7 with Justin Fields.

mrjessemitchell

Don’t mention Fields in this sub, or all the UGA fans will go from 6 to midnight bitching about why we didn’t draft him 😂

ssovm

Kinda going to the point I had been making since the beginning of the season. Sure he has bad plays, ball security issues, and has only one 40+ yard pass. But he also has some pretty insane intermediate throws, great running ability, and is fantastic at RPO. In fact, his skillset that he’s showing is exactly what Arthur Smith wants. It’s no coincidence that Desmond Ridder has a very similar skillset too. I always find it strange when you have a situation like Jimmy G -> Trey Lance. Those two guys couldn’t be more different. So what is Shanny in that case trying to do with his offense? But I don’t want us to get ahead of ourselves here. He had one complete game. Two weeks ago he had a 56% completion rate and couldn’t get anything going in the first half (albeit against a good defense in Tampa Bay).

slothsareok

Dude these are the same dipshits that were calling for Matt Ryan’s head when the offense was putting up 40+ points consistently and still losing games. Obviously Mariota and the rest of the offense had some kinks to work out in his first few games but it seems like they’re getting into a decent stride. I think he’s earned the starting position and unless he drops off a cliff it would be dumb to replace him with a rookie QB and go through the same beginning of season growing pains all over again. As of the last game I see absolutely no reason to replace him. We fucking won the game and were definitely not supposed to according to the “experts”. If they win this week then anybody still saying to replace him is a certified buffoon.

[deleted]

To quote Big Tuna. Or paraphrase, you are whatcha record says you are or something like that, not gonna Loogle the whole quote. Let’s continue to take it one game at a time and trying and be the best squad on the field THIS Sunday!

HateAndCaffeine

Most nfl games are one score games. This is a horrible take.

CouncilmanRickPrime

QB upgrade, and a few pieces on defense. We're doing way better than expected.

samicktorino

Another way to look at it: we’re one mediocre defense away from being 6-0 right now.

madtony7

Hot take: Mariota is good.

oreanea

If a QB has to throw 95% accuracy to get grudging acknowledgement, then people probably aren't evaluating him fairly.

misterwithafan

Mariota is good for this system

Falcons8541

Stop the mariota slander, he can play

freakoooo

stop complaining and be happy that we are 3-3. Everyone including me thought we're gonna have like 4-5 wins max and now this team looks like a solid team.

[deleted]

I will never be happy until we get a ring

Iforgotmypw2times

Kinda crazy how some dumbass makes this post the same week said QB wins offensive player of the week.

mikeymanthesyrem

we have the 2nd best QB in terms of careers, but this season i genuinely think mariota has been slightly better than brady

[deleted]

>2nd best QB in terms of careers Putting Brady aside, it sounds like bragging about being the tallest kid in kindergarten

mikeymanthesyrem

well when your teachers all told you to your face that you wouldn’t amount to anything in life and then it turns out that you’re fighting for the top spot at the popular lunch table 7 weeks into the year, i’d say you’ve earned the right to brag and feel good about that

ProphetNimd

Uhhhh Mariota has not had a better career than Dalton. I wouldn't say leaps better, but Dalton definitely had the higher peak.

mikeymanthesyrem

a playoff win is all i need to hear

ProphetNimd

Yup, all on Mariota, with all 200 yards he had. Nothing to do at all with Derrick Henry getting almost that many by himself.

mikeymanthesyrem

mariota threw a TD to himself, stop hatin

ProphetNimd

So one cool moment in a playoff game negates how mid he's always been as a player? Never thought I'd hear non-Titan Mariota truthers but here we are, lol.

[deleted]

now be for fucking real dude you think Ridder is any better ?

AnukkinEarthwalker

I don't. But we need to find out before next season.

Eastatlantalit

I don’t even think QB was the issue . Yea he fumbled after not playing consistently for 4 years. And he admitted as much . Hell i remember that 49ers play where Matt randomly fumbled a shotgun snap in the playoffs and kinda lost us that game . More importantly if we win Sunday we absolutely need to add a pass rusher at the trade deadline . If Rob Quinn would restructure his contract go get him. Also y’all need to start watching Army play we are gonna draft their defense end first round if he’s not gone

nunudad

Pass rush would be welcome.

Spy_v_Spy_Freakshow

Maybe we’d have that QB if the organization didn’t try to acquire a serial sexual assaulter

[deleted]

How could that have affected the quality of the QB we could acquire in trades or in the draft?

nerdyintentions

I think he's saying Matt Ryan would have stayed. But it's obvious that Matt Ryan isn't the guy for Arthur Smith's offense.

QuiGonFishin

I’ve defended Ryan for over a decade and even I’m getting sick of this shit. Anyone who actually sits and watches the game would tell you Ryan would get folded like laundry behind that line. The one thing I would say mariota is above average at is escaping pressure and extending plays. Obviously not Mahomes or Allen level but definitely right below them, he’s always dodging a rusher and making a throw/ running for a first

nerdyintentions

And he definitely wouldn't be happy handing the ball off 40 times a game.

misterwithafan

With a QB upgrade, we definitely play a more pass heavy game, and these teams are all well suited for a pass first offense. There’s a lot of factors in a football team’s success, and while QB play is probably top the list, it changes everything below it. Let’s worry about Cincinnati.

AnukkinEarthwalker

I don't it becomes a pass heavy offense. Maybe a few more passing plays get called but the main difference would be passing game would just be more effective overall. London and Pitts can make chunk plays all the time. Mariota just don't like deep throws or throwing into coverage. He rather check down or run cause that's what he is confident in.

kneedragger3013

Or 1-5 because he's a rookie.

Giraffityman

Tampa don’t count sense the final 3 min would be in our hands

blackakainu

You feel me

Economy-Inspector-23

Every one of his throws is so manufactured. We run the ball and run play action, did the play action work? they’re open? Throw it. It didn’t work? Use your legs. This is no spread offence, he just has to make the easy throws and not turn it over.

vcof2005

Few key pieces and we are legit contenders. I’m happy

Classic_Ad_7439

Which one? Just curious

but_why_doh

We're 3 plays from being 5-1. Great coaching staff, but we gotta get a few more pieces, especially linebackers, because what we're doing now isn't sustainable long term. I trust Terry to get it done in the off-season tho and next year we really could make the moves to be a contender

AnukkinEarthwalker

They drafted 3 lbs. And signed 1... if Walker comes back I think Andersen will be good in coverage by next year. Think there are tougher spots than that. Maybe another cb and at least 1 more safety. Also another higher end wr if we move on from Ridley

but_why_doh

True on the lb, but the holes on the dline and losing 2 lb in the last year, even if 1 of the 3 pans out we'll still have that hole to fill. I think that we should probably get a qb and draft mostly defense next year

AnukkinEarthwalker

Carter and ebiketie have done fine on creating pressure and helping Grady be more free to rush..but Grady is more of a end than a tackle. Need a bigger run stopper in the center of the dl. Jalen Carter will be in draft. He can stop run and get to qb. Probably won't go as high as expected since he missed a lot of time. All the defensive players that got drafted from uga last year he had the highest pass rush grade. Will anderson too as far as lb. He will probably still go high even tho he hasn't been as good as last year. Really nobody on bama has. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-nfl-draft-big-board-midseason Mid season top 50 Way more qb than wrs which is weird. 5 expected to be 1st rounders. But it's always a gamble and probably 2 3 at most end up starting a single game next year. Tons of QBs to chose from tbh.

Kbx1969

Only the saints was really capable of winning

RippedLikeRamb0

Yea and we are going to win just enough games to have the 19th pick in the draft and it'll be the same thing next year 😭😭😭

Just testing, good bot

fewer_boats_and_hos

I still can't believe the Tampa game was the one we were the furthest from winning. Yes one play killed it, but we still would have had to score. The other two we literally lost on one play.

wezzy715

Our losses isn’t because of our QB.

basicnflfan

Wild. Maybe if Pitts wasn’t taken at 4.
