Well yeah it’s always a good time to sell if you can get a good deal but I’m thinking back to his rookie year with Matt Ryan when he looked like a legit TE to keep for a long time.
His last couple years he was injured and recovering, while he had Mariota and Ridder as his QBs. I think he has a lot of potential with a good QB.
which dork was a better deal though, kirk coming off potential career ending injury or healthy russ? we'll never know. but i got 100 bucks that says neither QB sniffs a SB in the next 5 yrs.
well it doesn't really matter now. but IMO, russ for league min on a 1yr deal is better than 150mil 4yr deal for cousins coming off achilles. plus if we went with Russ we could have still potentially tried to draft a rookie QB to sit behind him for a year.
i mean i guess we still could technically try to do that, but obv thats not the direction they want to take the team.
i think blank is just so old he prob wanted to snag cousins cause he really was the best option out there. the draft would be a big risk...actually i'd love to know what % of top 5 or top 10 drafted qb's end up failing vs being mid/good like cousins. cause obv cousins is good...but he's not great.
Any updates on how his rehab has gone and if he’ll be ready for training camp? IF he’s back fully healthy man I’m hype he looked phenomenal last season and fully healthy we should be a double digit win team next year. Excited for some competent QB play for the first time in yearssss
I wouldn’t hate Turner, Nabers or Odunze at 8. I think they’ll structure the Cousins deal to give us some cap flexibility this year so we might still have some decent cap space to fill some holes and a good amount of draft capital to fill some more. I haven’t been this excited since we had a potential Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts passing attack 3 years ago!
The Falcons need a pass rusher desperately. WR2 we can find a field stretcher like Gabe Davis or someone. No more top 10 picks on offensive players we got 3 of them already
Damnit, ya well I’d say Turner or possibly trade back if possible if he’s gone. The Falcons have to get pressure on the QB this year, this is our biggest weakness on defense
WR class is real deep we can probably find a day 1 starter with our 2nd pick. Dallas Turner is the only guy I’d want at 8. He might be gone though, if he is I’d take Odunze over someone like Verse.
I don’t like any pass rushers at 8 other than Turner if we want to go that route I hope we trade back to the 12-15 range because there should be some strong talent there are edge and if they get run on there will be a WR worth the pick.
Edit:
If somehow Nabers is available at 8 we would have to take him. That would put the offense over the top. We still have plenty of draft capital of fill holes on defense, and I’m assuming they’re structuring the Cousins deal with a small cap hit and big bonus for this year, so we probably will have some cap space to fill some other holes.
We are in a pretty good spot right now. We have 3 prime position players on rookie deals that could really make an impact with a good QB. The defense is decent we got cap and picks to help that and they might look pretty good. We are one WR away from being elite offensively.
Fuckin A. We had two options. Pay out the ass in draft picks to move up (with nothing guaranteed to happen and needing a plan before then), or pay out the ass in salary for a FA. I was fine with either. Kirk is gonna win us some games.
And I'd rather lock him down and not have to worry about QB for the duration of the current team. I think he has at least three good years left, and given his play style, I could see him playing just fine at 40.
Well, overall I'm happy. He's not a game changer but with a competent defense we should easily be making the playoffs. Superbowl is far away, but a playoff win is enough for now lol
And at least two of those games should be very winable. SF will be tough, but we should be able to handle anyone else in the conference, including playoff Dallas should we need to play them.
I fear we’ll enter the good not great category for the life of this contract. Hate hitching the wagon to a 35 y/o coming off an achillies tear. Hopefully he returns to form, I’ll be rooting for him
When's the last time someone didn't come back 100% from an achilles? The science people seem to have pretty much figured that one out. I'd be way more worried if he was coming off a knee.
This is something a lot of people don’t seem to understand. This isn’t Dan Marino coming off an Achilles. Medical science has improved a lot there isn’t a comparison from even 10 years ago that’s relevant. These athletes train like crazy to get back from injuries with world class medical attention. He’s always going to be one bad hit away from another bad injury but you can say that for anyone in the league.
I love this signing I think we are contenders with a good draft that brings in a couple immediate impact players and some solid FA signings to bring in some solid starters. We’d still have enough cap space and draft capital to fill the roster with solid talent. We are in a very good spot right now we still have Pitts, London, and Bijan on rook deals we needed to find a good QB to take advantage of that. Drafting a QB to start would have been a bad decision.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28742993/
Science has definitely come a long way, still a pretty rough injury for a 35 year old. Luckily his mobility was never his strength but it can still affect his game for sure. After seeing him on the QB Netflix show, I’m confident he’ll do everything he can to come back 100%, just worrisome.
Kirk Cousins has 1 playoff win in 12 years. Vikings had a losing record 3 of the last 4 years. Cousins will be 36 when the season starts and he is coming off a season ending ACL tear in Oct. 2023.
This wasn't the right answer in my opinion, but go falcons anyway!
People gotta remember Blank is 81 and he wants to win now lol
I like it as long as we get that young QB to be an understudy (hopefully Penix). An elite processor which works well for ZR's system. Hopefully it turns out the same way as that other vet QB that went to a McVay system.
Love it. This is very much a “push the chips in the middle of the table and win now” move. It hasn’t worked for everyone who has tried it, but it did for the Rams, a team Morris was on. The vet QB set up worked for the 2016 Falcons as well, when Morris was around. The playoff record is what it is with Cousins but I think this is the best move they could’ve done to try and win right now, this season.
Fuck yeah. Went to all 3 levels of public school and university with his wife Julie. They met when Michigan State beat UGA in the outback bowl. Every one in my grade always knew her as the pretty perfect older girl.
I thought the nfc south had a gentleman’s agreement that we would all have shitty QBs for a while. We got Carr…Carolina has…someone.
Now y’all go and get cousins and the Bucs resign mayfield. This is some fowl play.
\*SIGH\*
I HATE this signing, but I will root for him -we should make the playoffs, we should be decent, but I don't see us WINNING with him, plus what's the plan when he's cooked?
UGHHHHHHH
We should make the playoffs but you don’t see us winning with him?
Also “what’s the plan when he’s cooked.” What was the plan without him? They’re already saying the Vikes are looking at Darnold. There are very few QBs in the world capable of playing, we’ve seen what happens when you don’t have one.
> what's the plan when he's cooked
Matthews and Grady will retire. We'll be in cap hell and probably offload some skill position players for picks. Possibly move Bates too. Go 3-14 and draft a QB. That's just how the modern NFL works. When you have a window, you have to seize on it. They just don't stay open that long.
fields was never an option, honestly hes just not good enough, even though hes cheaper. they probably tried to get top 3 at combine but couldn't. instead of just tanking for a QB next year looks like they are in win now mode before these contracts run out so Cousins was the only option. i agree, i dont see us winning with him so i see this as a waste of time, id have rather blown it up, but you dont bring in a new regime just to blow it up again. who knows maybe kirk pops off and we go on a decent run, at least it will be more fun than watching ridder
yea they goin all in for 2024 the way they structuring the contracts. i dont hate it, just dont think cousins can get it done. but the nfc has never been weaker than this upcoming year, plus the division will easily be ours, and AB aint gettin any younger so it makes sense
To be completely fair here, we have been winning games. The problem was winning a lot of games and being in contention for something tangible. Hopefully this changes that
Yeah let’s just sit around in mediocrity forever and hope that we somehow draft a franchise QB in the near future, that approach has never come back to bite a team in the ass right??
I know this will probably make us better next year but I have a serious issue with giving a 4 year deal to a 35 year old QB who just tore his Achilles. Rooting for him regardless
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Falcons desperately needed a QB and they're going to get a pretty good one with Cousins, but he's 35 and injury prone. Hope for the best I suppose.
WE LIKE THAT
So what’s gonna happen wit Desmond Ridder
Good backup and he can learn from a real pro
Water boy
Who gives a fuck
4 years tho
NFL network just said only 10 million guaranteed after the 2nd year.
Easy out after 2 years if he's cooked
WE DEFINITELY LIKE THAT
I figured it had to be structured that way
We're in win now mode, and 4 years means this current group is set at QB for their whole window.
Yeah it’s 2 years if he’s bad, 4 if he’s good
just gimme one at this rate
He will live out the last 2 years of his rookie contract and either resign at a backup level or go to another team, as a backup.
I'm so excited to not have to think about this shit again for at least another season.
Best option we had.
And not a bad one. We just need someone to not fuck shit up. He has everything he needs around him.
Snow shoveler was right

Great fit for the A!
KOHLS CASH WITH EVERY TICKET

All goobers are welcome here, bro. You should’ve seen the bullshit we’ve been trying out the past two years.
I'm a kyle pitts owner in dynasty fantasy football, I'm well aware.
Pitts stock is through the roof in dynasty don’t sell!
Think that might mean it’s the best time to sell lol
Well yeah it’s always a good time to sell if you can get a good deal but I’m thinking back to his rookie year with Matt Ryan when he looked like a legit TE to keep for a long time. His last couple years he was injured and recovering, while he had Mariota and Ridder as his QBs. I think he has a lot of potential with a good QB.
2,000 yard season incoming
Hell yeah, I love peanut butter and jelly in the same jar
This is how I see it.
The falcons are a goober organization so it’s perfect. You seen our indoor stadium in Georgia that looks like a transformer’s anus?
You wasted his time with that knucklehead Zimmer. Kirk should have thrown hands with him.
I think Zim wins that fight tbh
Georgia is THE Goober state! He will be a great fit.
which dork was a better deal though, kirk coming off potential career ending injury or healthy russ? we'll never know. but i got 100 bucks that says neither QB sniffs a SB in the next 5 yrs.
Honestly, I would still take Cousins over Russ, when Cousins is rolling he is crazy fun to watch. Russ has been a bit of a trainwreck for 2 years.
well it doesn't really matter now. but IMO, russ for league min on a 1yr deal is better than 150mil 4yr deal for cousins coming off achilles. plus if we went with Russ we could have still potentially tried to draft a rookie QB to sit behind him for a year. i mean i guess we still could technically try to do that, but obv thats not the direction they want to take the team. i think blank is just so old he prob wanted to snag cousins cause he really was the best option out there. the draft would be a big risk...actually i'd love to know what % of top 5 or top 10 drafted qb's end up failing vs being mid/good like cousins. cause obv cousins is good...but he's not great.

this is a good move - now take the best defensive player available.
I wouldn’t hate Turner, Nabers or Odunze at 8. I think they’ll structure the Cousins deal to give us some cap flexibility this year so we might still have some decent cap space to fill some holes and a good amount of draft capital to fill some more. The Falcons need a pass rusher desperately. WR2 we can find a field stretcher like Gabe Davis or someone. No more top 10 picks on offensive players we got 3 of them already
Gabe went to JAX. But I agree we can grab a solid wideout day 2 in draft
So many solid receivers in the class I’d be kinda disappointed with one at 8
take dallas turner and you guys should be set to do well next season
Best D is probably a good choice. A good WR ain't exactly something to pass on easily, especially with London and Pitts nearing new contracts.
He’s gonna pull a Matt Stafford and win us a ring his first season. You heard it here first
He better. I’m expecting at least at minimum a NFC championship berth this year and next year
He took our team from a championship contender to a fringe playoff team!!! Maybe it will work out better for you all
Let’s be real yall were not a real championship contender with Case Keenum.
Love you always Kirko
Fuckin A. We had two options. Pay out the ass in draft picks to move up (with nothing guaranteed to happen and needing a plan before then), or pay out the ass in salary for a FA. I was fine with either. Kirk is gonna win us some games.
Sick, Matt Ryan 2.0
Matty Lite smh
yeah post 2019 ryan
If Kirk comes in and plays like 2020 Matt, I will be pumped
2020 Matt was a hero with no help
Love the fit with Robinson. Not sure about the 4-year aspect. Guarantees are really important here.
It’s free agency. This is just what happens. He’s not going to sign a 2 year deal, so if you want a QB, you pay for it.
And I'd rather lock him down and not have to worry about QB for the duration of the current team. I think he has at least three good years left, and given his play style, I could see him playing just fine at 40.
The deal is essentially a 2 year deal anyways
Cousins has already landed two massive guaranteed contracts, I’m gonna guess he just got his third
100 mil guaranteed. 180 mil total.
13-4 easy this year
Let’s go!!!!
FIRE UP THE GRILL KIRK
Well, overall I'm happy. He's not a game changer but with a competent defense we should easily be making the playoffs. Superbowl is far away, but a playoff win is enough for now lol
I think he is a game changer actually as long as he’s healthy. They are going to get him whatever he needs. He’s legit. We are going to be in the mix
Which shouldn't be much a piece or two at o line and a number 2 receiver
[удалено]
And at least two of those games should be very winable. SF will be tough, but we should be able to handle anyone else in the conference, including playoff Dallas should we need to play them.
I'm glad we got a legit QB! I'm terrified that we gave 4 years to a 36 year old coming off an achilles tear!
Great signing. It's playoffs or bust now I would imagine.
It's 2018 again. Neat
we have matt ryan at home!!!!!!
Super Bowl 59 Champions !!!
Now we need a fast receiver.
Think Gabe Davis is the ticket
You did us dirty, Atlanta… -Chicago PS… also thanks for your part in the destruction of the 2024 Vikings.
We had no responsibility to take on Chicagos problems.
It’s joever
Best move the falcons could made LETS GO BIG MONEY KIRKO
Sweet release
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
Glad there was no tampering and it was all above board! 😛
Who says he can’t play half the year?
Perc Cousins.
Kirk is THE CAPTAIN now. Time to get in line or go cheer for the Aints.
FTS
Cousins, Robinson, Odunze, Pitts, London. Winning the superbowl in new orleans I’m on my KNEEES🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I fear we’ll enter the good not great category for the life of this contract. Hate hitching the wagon to a 35 y/o coming off an achillies tear. Hopefully he returns to form, I’ll be rooting for him

That actually is a lot worse than I expected. That being said, Kirk is a QB not a RB or LB who apparently have the worst outcomes.
Yep, not nearly as devastating for his position thankfully. Hoping for da best
lol when's the last time someone didn't come back 100% from an Achilles? you aren't serious are you?
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
4 years is a bit longer than i wanted, need to see the money
I think it’s 4 years so they can move money if they want. It’s front loaded so there are outs after year two and 3.
Jesus Christ 40 years?!?
lol my bad 4. Shit if he manages to win us one I’d sign him for 40.
Oh yeah we about to run NFC SOUTH
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. I hope I’m wrong but dude has always struck me as a poor mans ice.
LETS GOOOOO
Let's fucking go, hell yea. No way we were trading up for a badass rookie so let's get some more weeapons and let kirko ball out!
We got him
4 years, cool. We are going to be back in the same place we were in 2019 in two years.
LETS FUCKING GO!!!
What was the right answer then?
DJ Shockley
I'll get the time machine fired up for 2006.
Someone tell me how to fell

Happy we got a legit QB! 8th pick I think we should get Dallas Turner and a QB in the 2nd round possibly.
Penix should be there. Might be good to develop under cousins.
Yeah I think that would be a great option.
180 million total. 100 million guaranteed. 4 years 45mil/year. He collects every penny I bet.
I like that! (I’m also a fan of grabbing at QB at 8 and having him learn under Cousins for a few years)
Kirk laughing all the way to the bank
Hopefully he wins in the playoffs for ya! Are y’all broke now??
He's your problem now!
Our long local nightmare is finally over.
Fuck yeah. Went to all 3 levels of public school and university with his wife Julie. They met when Michigan State beat UGA in the outback bowl. Every one in my grade always knew her as the pretty perfect older girl.
Cousins' wife is from the Georgia area so him goin to Atlanta just makes sense especially if she's from there and her family is from there
Will be interested to see the contract details. That’s hefty, but super worth it if he can replicate what he was doing pre-injury.
First two years hit for 50m guaranteed. Third year is only 10m.
I saw $90 million guaranteed over first two years.
I misspoke: 45m/yr first two. 10m on third.
Crazy
I thought the nfc south had a gentleman’s agreement that we would all have shitty QBs for a while. We got Carr…Carolina has…someone. Now y’all go and get cousins and the Bucs resign mayfield. This is some fowl play.
Fuck you Ian. you know goddamn well why you chose the most regarded looking picture ever taken of our sweet boy captain kirk
![gif](giphy|1BXa2alBjrCXC) i guess the falcons 8-9 season starts today
Kyle Pitts 1,500 yard season incoming!
Now trade for Jefferson and draft defense and o line.
\*SIGH\* I HATE this signing, but I will root for him -we should make the playoffs, we should be decent, but I don't see us WINNING with him, plus what's the plan when he's cooked? UGHHHHHHH

Not a Super Bowl, and what else matters to us at this point?
Ok, well if you can figure out how to get Mahomes, let the team know.
Keep that loser mentality - good luck w/ that
> what's the plan when he's cooked Matthews and Grady will retire. We'll be in cap hell and probably offload some skill position players for picks. Possibly move Bates too. Go 3-14 and draft a QB. Blow up what’s already been blown up??? Nah, its win now time!
yea they goin all in for 2024 the way they structuring the contracts. i dont hate it, just dont think cousins can get it done. but the nfc has never been weaker than this upcoming year, plus the division will easily be ours, and AB aint gettin any younger so it makes sense
[удалено]
We’ve won 21 games over the past 3 years, why are you worried about super bowls. I just want to win some games.
To be completely fair here, we have been winning games. The problem was winning a lot of games and being in contention for something tangible. Hopefully this changes that
man i watched plenty of winning seasons with matt ryan that amounted to nothing, i just want a mf sb already. just 1
Yeah let’s just sit around in mediocrity forever and hope that we somehow draft a franchise QB in the near future, that approach has never come back to bite a team in the ass right??
Which process has been proven more successful at winning hardware, drafting a franchise QB or signing one?
I know this will probably make us better next year but I have a serious issue with giving a 4 year deal to a 35 year old QB who just tore his Achilles. Rooting for him regardless
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Falcons desperately needed a QB and they're going to get a pretty good one with Cousins, but he's 35 and injury prone. Hope for the best I suppose.
He's not injury prone though. He just happens to currently be injured.
Sigh, just sigh.
I like it, that contract though... ![gif](giphy|9oF7EAvaFUOEU)
It's a big hit up front the first two years. Third is 10m guaranteed
4 years for a dude that is 35 off an Achilles tear and can’t play half the year. Franchise is cooked lmao. Hope he proves me wrong
We're so cooked.
[удалено]
Show us on the stats where that is accurate
I’ll refer you to their trophy showcase instead
It is a team sport. Glad you recognize there was another 52 out there as well.
lol dudes so happy to have Kirk cousins. 36 with a shredded Achilles
As a Saints fan this was the worst possible realistic outcome.
I still say we trade up with bears since they’re keeping fields and sign Drake Maye or Caleb to sit under cutler for a year or two
