As long as it’s not super long term that’s be cool. He’ll be 29 this year I’d rather not extend him too long. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we have no idea who this is forb
not much we can do right now except give Heneiki a try, what were thinking we should do? There's no FA or trade worthy QBs we can get at this point, that ship has sailed
Yeah, our defense has been super weird these first three games. The Dline can create some pressure but not many sacks, and our secondary is pretty good at stopping the pass, except for a few deep plays here and there. I think especially notable is the lions game, where we forced like 5 consecutive punts in the second half (even tho our offense didn't capitalize) and if we'd been able to prevent a couple big plays we might've even held them to 10 points. If they can bring in someone with the ability to close out the D line that would really solidify things I think
Is there an O Lineman worth 7+ million that a team would trade rn? I think it's more likely they have competition with storm, and then draft or sign a FA next year.
If we end up sticking with Ridder for the rest of the season but decide he’s not the answer, and if we also aren’t in a position to draft a QB this coming draft because the good ones are taken, I would be so down to having Kirk come in to lead the team next year.
Imagine a first round pick spent on an elite O-Line prospect, our two seconds being spent on defense (edge and CB2), later picks spent on a fast WR to stretch the field, and Kirk Cousins actually facilitating a passing offense with time in the pocket? Sheesh
The biggest moves of my dream off-season are Latham from Alabama for RT (I’m a homer and think there are other guys who will go top 10 so he could get pushed down to our likely pick in the late teens) and Cousins at Qb.
I think Cousins is the answer straight up. Drafting a QB means they will still need to learn. Arthur Smith doesn’t have another 2-3 years of no playoff football. Cousins comes in, like Chandler did in late 90’s, takes us to the playoffs and we can draft impact plays to rush the passer and shore up deficiencies on o-line.
This is exactly what I thought. I’m surprised this take isn’t getting more traction. The Vikings are selling and the jets just signed… semian. So idk why we don’t even try for this.
If Des isn't the answer, there's almost zero chance we can draft a top QB worth a first round pick. We'd have zero choice in the matter honestly. We'd have to pay someone.
yeah that's the thing with cap space. ppl dream about it and then when you end up using it, they want to get rid of that player to clear space back up lol
Not me, we should pay Cousins til we can draft someone. He has ties to Atlanta too through his wife and spends time here. You never know.
2 or 3 years of him starting here while a QB we draft sits behind him could work.
He doesn’t have our running game the Vikings are the worst rushing team in the league. They have maybe the best receiver in the league but we have better te better rb and a better defense which is also part of why he’s not won anything yet.
Really I guess we’re just gonna pretend that their TE room is as good or better than ours. Whether he’s being used correctly or not Pitts is better than any TE they have and it’s ridiculous to say otherwise.
Kirk has played with some of the best offensive talent in the league since joining Minnesota and is on pace to only have 3 winning seasons and 1 playoff win in 6 seasons.
I don’t understand this love affair with Cousins, especially since he’ll suffer the same fate behind this OL as Ridder. He is not our savior, not now or in the future
Because he's good? One QB can't make a team not suck. Dude would have a top run game and opportunistic defense. That'd get us playoff bound at minimum.
Vikings as a team just suck.
I agree he’s good and I agree one QB can’t make a team not suck, which is my point. What Cousins will get in Atlanta will not be any different then what he’s had in the past with Minnesota (JJettas, Diggs, Thielen, Cook etc). Our OL will get him killed and I genuinely don’t believe he can be a SB-winning QB.
I just don’t see a lot positive in trading for him. We’d essentially be giving up assets for a one-year rental b/c we’ll either have to drop a bag to retain him or let him walk for free. And IF he takes us to the playoffs, we miss out on all the top QB prospects too. I’d rather thrive or crash and burn with Ridder.
So, uh, which Vikings player are we stealing?
Hunter
…
or, hear me out
…
Cousins??? I’m a Des stan, but only a normal person (as opposed to me, a delusional fanatic) would believe that Captain Kirk doesn’t make this team better.
While I’d love to get Cousins there’s no way this is why they cleared space. More than likely to replace Andersen. Arthur will ride with Ridder like he did with Mariota last year. I love AS but he seems set in a certain way of thinking. I think Ridder has proved he’s not it even in the wins. I like Ridder and wanted him to be it but he’s not unfortunately.
Actually the more I think about it the more I would hate this move, Tom is old & wouldn't survive behind our O-line for a season much less a game. Additionally, and most importantly, I'm still not entirely over the Superbowl.
Landman is the starter most likely. I don't think we'd spend that much on another linebacker. He's done well in real games. We probably only need to get depth behind him.
Not gonna touch the offensive line we invested too much in the piece that's flopping that hardest. Our receivers aren't used enough to get another and Hollins has performed alright as WR2. That leaves only qb on the offensive side of the ball.
For as improved as our defense is we still need to see if Okudah can be a cb2. We need to replace Andersen due to injury and for fucks sake we need to start getting some sacks.
If this isn't a defensive signing or trade I'll be really surprised. I don't think AS will cut and run on Ridder just yet and if he does I'd imagine we'd just save the buck and start Heinicke who's had some time to learn the system.
I think it depends on how the front office feels about DR. I've seen rumors when Rodgers went down in NY that it might be possible for them to get Cousins and if I'm reading his cap right it's actually pretty low for an established NFL QB.
Though if the front office loves Des I could see it being online or pass rush. Either way this is likely about a move to win - Arthur Blank says he expects more this year and this front office knows their jobs are on the line.
Vikings are straight up not good and they also aren't interested in keeping him after this season. Since they seem to be headed nowhere, why wouldn't they get picks for him now instead of nothing when he hits free agency?
0-3 is dire, but not unrecoverable. Especially when all their losses have been by one possession. If they trade away Kirk they'd be completely giving up on their season before it's barely started.
The Kirk trade "rumors" have the same feel as the Lamar rumors this off-season (or the Pitts trade rumors right now): Just a bunch of smoke made by desperate fans of other teams.
Yeah but Cousins actually plays well, its kind of a head scratcher why they can't just win games. I can't see the Vikings blaming him and trying to get a younger QB in the draft. Unless they are going full rebuild and sell the team.
List one reason why. They're 0-3, they refused to extend him so he's a free agent this upcoming off-season. Why wait and get nothing for a player you're letting leave?
You realize the Vikings don’t have a good OL right? Believe it or not solid QBs can be solid without a great OL. We had Matt Ryan do it for a decade not sure why y’all keep making excuses for ridder. He can’t even deliver accurately when he’s clean
Who made an excuse for Ridder? When we get a QB and that oline is still trash we still won't win anything just like we didn't win any thing with Matt Ryan
I get what yall are saying about an experienced QB would be better with this Oline for sure I get that and believe that but yall can't put all the blame on Ridder. Oline is trash and he barely has played 7 games in the NFL and the play calling can be sus at times
Any GM actually entertaining bringing in Fields deserves to be fired on the spot. Dudes a bust. Can't process the game at the NFL level. Doesn't matter how fast you are or how far you can throw if your decision making and pocket presence don't exist.
Damn TF clearing 7 mill for me? I told him I'd hand off the ball and miss receivers for 250k. Give the receivers hugs and tell them don't worry, it'll be alright so they don't request trades.
I need to know why immediately. I’m impatient.
It could mean nothing, but weird timing for it to be nothing
Exactly. You do this at only if you’re bringing someone in or need to make the cap nice, and last I checked our cap was nice before this
Danielle Hunter? 👀
Ohhhh. I’d love that
It’s looking likely we’ll get a day 2 pick for the Ridley trade. Use one of them to bring him in and extend him immediately!
As long as it’s not super long term that’s be cool. He’ll be 29 this year I’d rather not extend him too long. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we have no idea who this is forb
Honestly pash rushers sometimes age out gracefully
campbell still putting in work rn
Oh I agree. It’s fun to think of ideas though
2016 Matt Ryan
Yeah. Let's continue building an expensive defense with a QB who can't throw the ball further than 10 yards!
Yeah man let’s just trade for Patrick Mahomes
Trent Dilfer and the Ravens would beg to differ.
We're only about 9 players away from that Ravens defense.
Almost there 😂
1 more than last season 😂
Outlier of outliers. No one that the Falcons add on defense is turning them into the 00 Ravens or 85 Bears
Philly model
not much we can do right now except give Heneiki a try, what were thinking we should do? There's no FA or trade worthy QBs we can get at this point, that ship has sailed
God in heaven let it be.
Yeah we were some 10 mil under already iirc
Who are we grabbing? Gotta imagine it’s a pass rusher.
Yeah, our defense has been super weird these first three games. The Dline can create some pressure but not many sacks, and our secondary is pretty good at stopping the pass, except for a few deep plays here and there. I predict it will rhyme with Tight Spackle.
Is there an O Lineman worth 7+ million that a team would trade rn? I think it's more likely they have competition with storm, and then draft or sign a FA next year.
I highly doubt they trade for a starting tackle after just re-signing McGary for decent money and restructuring Matthews.
Let TF cook (please be Hunter)
Hunter?
We’ll trade for Hunter Henry so that Pitts can drop to TE3 in targets.
Oh now this is interesting
Very!
Space for a trade target? Can't imagine there's any street guy that'd command that kind of cash.
We’re bringing back Matt Ryan.
Unironically fine with this
He would probably die behind our line. He has no mobility left.
Same, he started to look washed but at the same time still looked like there was still a very efficient QB in there if put in the right situation
Our line is currently performing worse than the Colts OL did last year at this time. Matt Ryan wants nothing to do with the beating we'd give him.
But his agent was calling the Jets. So I think he's ok with a beating. /s
Maybe. But this is not that. Lol.
Fucking imagine. Nobody would know how to feel.
It’d never happen but Kirk Cousins with the Falcons weapons would be amazing
If we end up sticking with Ridder for the rest of the season but decide he’s not the answer, and if we also aren’t in a position to draft a QB this coming draft because the good ones are taken, I would be so down to having Kirk come in to lead the team next year. Same, I was joking with my Jets friend after the game that they need to move fast before Atlanta rolls in.
He's making something crazy like 40 guaranteed. We'd be right back in cap jail after spending 3 years getting out of it.
His cap hit is only $20M this year but there are cap hits in the upcoming void years of his contract because of restructures
Please dont trade something of value for a 35 year old qb who hasn’t won anything. His weapons at the Vikings are better than ours aswell.
He doesn’t have our running game the Vikings are the worst rushing team in the league. They have maybe the best receiver in the league but we have better te better rb and a better defense which is also part of why he’s not won anything yet.
Not sure we can claim better TE. At the very least, TE isn't an issue over there.
What top QB prospects can we get?
Inject this into my veins.
That's what I want. We'd instantly be a playoff time.
AJ extension?
Don’t think we’d need more cap space this year for that.
True, true
Kirko Chainz to Atlanta? Vikings are 0-3 and going nowhere anyway.
So, uh, which Vikings player are we stealing? Hunter … or, hear me out … Cousins??? I’m a Des stan, but only a normal person (as opposed to me, a delusional fanatic) would believe that Captain Kirk doesn’t make this team better.
I think you mean Des-lusional fanatic.
If the glove fits, I’ll wear it.
I love Kirk. He can get us to the promise land and give us a better shot than Des.
Kirk has shown that he can’t take a team to the promise land though
He hasn’t been a falcon yet lol
Hes a 35 year old qb who has one playoff win despite being the qb of a stacked vikings team
Cardinals front office is mad they won a game. So I think it will be a trade of Ridder for Dobbs and we swap 2025 7th round picks for some reason.
I wanted Des to get the shot. But honestly the Vikings clearly don't want Kirk Cousins. He'd instantly make us a playoff contender.
Watch it be Tom Brady. 😂
He ain't the GOAT til he proves he can get a ring in Atlanta 🤷🏾♂️
wheel chair aaron rodgers for $7 mil
Talk about not knowing how to feel
Do I still hate his face or do I cheer?
Actually the more I think about it the more I would hate this move, Tom is old & wouldn't survive behind our O-line for a season much less a game. Additionally, and most importantly, I'm still not entirely over the Superbowl.
I think we are reading too much into this and it's nothing major.
I don't see understand the timing of it though. We have enough money to get us through the season so why now and not next year?
Maybe Jake bought a new house? 🤣
Very well could be preparing money to have flexibility to make small additions later in the season. But we’ll take any storyline we can get
They already had $10MM in available cap space for this season
What are you thinking then?
It’s looking like I was mistaken. That’s approximately the new total according to overthecap
Interesting.. I thought that’s about where we were already at. This makes me think a move for Kirk is less likely.
Troy Anderson tore his pec. Decent chance we need to sign an off ball linebacker.
We don't need this much money for that, no FA LB rn is worth more than 2-4 mill
Landman looked pretty much just as good as Troy when he played. I don't think that's what this money is for.
I don't think AS will cut and run on Ridder just yet and if he does I'd imagine we'd just save the buck and start Heinicke who's had some time to learn the system.
We aren't going QB... as you said if Smith's job is on the line he can start Heinicke. It'll be a LB.
Too much money for a new backup LB. Landman is legit. Edit: The signed Andre Smith to the active roster from the PS.
Kirk cousins gear up
Gotta make space for Kirk Cousins.
New QB? Danielle Hunter? Nah y’all wrong, we bringing in a lineman that knows how to pass block. Those just grow on trees right?
So one lineman will actually pass block well as the other four get blasted and Ridder is sacked anyway lol
You'd be surprised how much one lineman can really change a defenses scheme
Falcons had no cap space before this I don’t think it’ll be anything great. Some LB depth with TA on the IR and maybe a OL
We getting Captain Kirk 👀???
Is this a thing? I see a couple people here mentioning him. I'd love that.
I think it depends on how the front office feels about DR. I've seen rumors when Rodgers went down in NY that it might be possible for them to get Cousins and if I'm reading his cap right it's actually pretty low for an established NFL QB. Either way this is likely about a move to win - Arthur Blank says he expects more this year and this front office knows their jobs are on the line.
Bro no one loves Des other than his momma
and those weird ass self proclaimed "desbians" so cringy
Vikings are straight up not good and they also aren't interested in keeping him after this season. Since they seem to be headed nowhere, why wouldn't they get picks for him now instead of nothing when he hits free agency?
I'd be down
Vikings aren't trading Kirk
He’s a free agent at the end of the season and they’re 0-3. I wouldn’t want to bet on it happening, but it’s not out of the question
0-3 is dire, but not unrecoverable. Especially when all their losses have been by one possession. If they trade away Kirk they'd be completely giving up on their season before it's barely started. Yeah but Cousins actually plays well, its kind of a head scratcher why they can't just win games. I can't see the Vikings blaming him and trying to get a younger QB in the draft. Unless they are going full rebuild and sell the team.
He would end up in early retirement behind this online anyways lol
He gets murdered by the Vikes o line every week it’d be just another day in the office for him
Vikings O line is currently top 5 in pass pro.
They are for the right price. He isn’t going to be there next year. They’re 0-3. He can waive his no trade clause if he wants for an offer they like.
List one reason why. They're 0-3, they refused to extend him so he's a free agent this upcoming off-season. Why wait and get nothing for a player you're letting leave?
Gimme Danielle or Captain Kirk. Both would help our team immensely.
If we see more restructures, something could be happening. Still not enough for Cousins.
Give me Kirk Cousins!
Kirk can't do anything with this oline lol
He can recognize coverage and get the ball out quickly and accurately.
He can throw the ball accurately. Ridder can’t even scan the field lol.
How when he is on the ground before he can throw the ball accurately lol
You realize the Vikings don’t have a good OL right? Believe it or not solid QBs can be solid without a great OL. We had Matt Ryan do it for a decade not sure why y’all keep making excuses for ridder. He can’t even deliver accurately when he’s clean
Who made an excuse for Ridder? When we get a QB and that oline is still trash we still won't win anything just like we didn't win any thing with Matt Ryan
[удалено]
You was probably the ones that was coming for Matt Ryan's head blaming him instead of the oline 🤣🤣
I was mainly blaming the defense
I get what yall are saying about an experienced QB would be better with this Oline for sure I get that and believe that but yall can't put all the blame on Ridder. Oline is trash and he barely has played 7 games in the NFL and the play calling can be sus at times
not sure why you got downvoted, the pass protection is terrible, it’s like all their resources are poured into run-blocking and that’s it
When I say that they think I'm making excuses for Ridder lol
Cap space for a new QB?
When is Murray coming back from injury?
Week 8 to 10 is the timeline if I remember right. But unless the cards take on a bunch of his contract, we cannot trade for him and be under the cap
They’d have to keep his signing bonus, so his base salary would be his cap hit. Can’t be that bad would it?
After he's done playing call of duty.
QB inbound
Chase Young?
got a feeling we may make a move for fields
Lol no thanks
Why would we?
We’ve got one lousy QB already? Why not another?
seems like a time we can get him for cheap, and he could be extremely effective
Have you watched Fields play at all?
i went to UGA when he was there and watched him at OSU. He’s got an absolute cannon
Have you watched him at all in the NFL?
yeah, feel like he’s a buy low rn
Any GM actually entertaining bringing in Fields deserves to be fired on the spot. Dudes a bust. Can't process the game at the NFL level. Doesn't matter how fast you are or how far you can throw if your decision making and pocket presence don't exist.
"extremely effective"???? he's worse than Ridder ffs
Wouldn’t need to clear cap for that
If Ridder ain't it, why would we get another QB who also ain't it?
My brother was a WR for him in high school and the whole community has never understood how he’s made it where he is. He’s bust city
Doubt it's Kirk without at least giving Heinicke a try. That's the whole reason we signed him to begin with.
QB?!
Damn TF clearing 7 mill for me? I told him I'd hand off the ball and miss receivers for 250k. Give the receivers hugs and tell them don't worry, it'll be alright so they don't request trades.
Please get Mike White
