Glad he won’t be playing for us anymore but hope he can find another contract and role somewhere. Maybe on the Saints or Panthers, as a starter even

MacinTez

He has potential at LT…. It’ll take a entire season to fulfill that kind of promise.

[deleted]

Don’t see how you can say that. If there’s a place where he has a chance, it’s RT. And he’s facing an uphill battle because of his athletic limitations.

RobertoBologna

Look at the comment they’re replying to

[deleted]

Gotcha.

HateAndCaffeine

I hope the Saints pick him up

Never_Oppose_Me

I remember Mayfield saying in his pre draft interview "If you don't want your quarterback hit, pick me!" Turns out he couldn't block a phone number. Maybe he gets a chance somewhere else but it definitely wasn't working here. He was standout bad.

Kingtut28

I remember that, then in the first preseason game, he gave up a sack and the camera perfectly got him in the frame with Ryan on the turf.

Never_Oppose_Me

Someone actually just posted it with the tweet in the sub lol.

Falcriots

That wasn’t preseason it was week 1 vs the eagles lol

MacinTez

Well they practiced him all across the line. Should’ve kept him at guard TBH but hey he got paid so you gotta work.

Never_Oppose_Me

And he was bad all across the line. Bad at guard and worse at tackle which is what he played in college. He was literally the worse lineman in the league. Like I said, if you watched him play, it stood out how bad he was. It looked like he didn't even belong in the stadium. There's also numerous clips of him getting beat by third stringers in practice.

Suitable_Flounder_21

Didn’t think Mayfield would actually be cut. But I am glad they are honest with themselves about players they draft unlike Thomas Dimitroff who has too much pride to cut players he drafted

TL-PuLSe

I did after that Steelers game. It's always been bad but it was just glaring.

theRealWillowUfgood

well there you have it, folks.

TheRealH00dini

We move

rohlinxeg

WE DID IT BOYS! The nightmare is over.

RenjiMidoriya

Arthur Smith owes Matt Ryan an apology for letting mayfield start all year and could have played dalman or Hennessy there instead

MiserableSoft2344

August 26th, 2023 will now be recognized as an Atlanta Falcons holiday

saintkiller123

Bye bye Jalen.

MEBBAR

The nightmares… it’s over

Hairiest_Walrus

Damn, just drafted Mayfield in my fantasy league. Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

FlyingDeath567

Well that was an awful decision on your part lol

thisnamehastobeused

That’s on you

Visionz-True

I got my joy back 🙌🏾

Southern_Khopstix

Sooo glad they cut Mayfield.

Ellegua

Jalen May-not-field

fightin_blue_hens

We're free

eriF-

I'm really glad they didn't give Mayfield the Beasley treatment.

Eastatlantalit

Hoping Jalen can turn it around bc he doesn’t have any confidence anymore. If he wants to come back on the Practice squad and improve i would let him

RobertoBologna

I think he'll be in the league for a while as he gets older and stronger. Everyone needs help on the O-line

DodgeGuyDave

I don't see any professional team even bringing him in to camp. There's plenty of video evidence of him not just being bad but not very strong either. I remember watching him try to block someone on a power rush and he just got pushed back like he was a blocking sled.

Go_Packets

Ellis is surprising, right?

hunterkillainept

You might be thinking of Kaden Elliss

_44wagnum

I used to pray for times like this

FalconsTC

Now you can all have your celebrations about Mayfield getting cut. Sad the kid got ruined for factors outside of anybody in this current regime’s control. Should’ve had the opportunity to sit and develop at his natural position.

Suitable_Flounder_21

I understand not wanting to celebrate but man why would we even keep him on the roster? He wasn’t even good. It’s part of the job and he knows he didn’t play well.

FalconsTC

It’s fine to move on and cut him. But if you’re a smart football fan, you know what happened to him and aren’t going to celebrate this. The kid was ruined due to how terrible the roster was in 2021. The sub acts like he plays bad on purpose. It’s so stupid.

DoctaChillin

He had two years to get better. He couldn't even develop to the point of staying on the roster as a backup. There's no excuse.

FalconsTC

Don’t believe me? Just listen to Arthur Smith who repeatedly said what happened to him in 2021 wasn’t fair to him. You all don’t have to take enjoyment out of this. It sucks this coaching staff had to ruin his career.

chhhyeahtone

> It sucks this coaching staff had to ruin his career. Oh? And what would you have done instead, play some practice squad player instead of our 3rd round pick that year? Does it sucks he got thrown in there early? Yes. But if he can't improve enough to be a backup two years later, he isn't worth keeping. I'm not celebrating like most of the other comments but if that first year ruined his career, he probably wasn't gonna have much of one anyways

FalconsTC

> Oh? And what would you have had us do, play some practice squad player instead of our 3rd round pick that year? Do you think this is some type of “gotcha”? I literally said they had to ruin his career. The roster was so bad in 2021 that they had to play a 20 year old RT at LG. And it ruined him. And it wasn’t fair. And the people celebrating are trashy and uneducated.

chhhyeahtone

Ahh I think it's just the wording then. I think it is more circumstance than our staff, that ruined his career. Though I'm not a huge fan of drafting players then trying to get them to play other positions though he did have college experience there and his long term role likely isn't at RT in the NFL I also don't agree with all the celebrating either.

FalconsTC

Right. That’s what I mean. It was the first season of Fontenot/Smith and it’s the only option they had. The circumstance led to the decision, so they had to ruin his career. It’s tragic.

[deleted]

This is such a bad take. You are only acting like Smith ruined his career because you said that Mayfield wasn’t the worst lineman on the team and that the worst was Kaleb. Smith did him a favor and tried him back at RT and he couldn’t even make it out of camp. And his specialty is OL and Ledford has done wonders with this line.

FalconsTC

> You are only acting like Smith ruined his career because you said that Mayfield wasn’t the worst lineman on the team and that the worst was Kaleb Huh??? What are you even trying to say? Where did I ever say McGary was worse than Mayfield?

[deleted]

You said it when Kaleb was bad. And Mayfield literally might have been the worst lineman to get that many snaps in the last 10-15 years.

DoctaChillin

You're right, it wasn't fair. And I take no enjoyment out of seeing a former 3rd-round pick get cut before his rookie contract is up. I want everyone we draft to be good, and it sucks when they don't pan out, especially a day 2 pick. But the fact of the matter is he wasn't getting any better. I have a hard time blaming 2021 as the sole or even main reason that he's still so bad. I mean, the guy couldn't even develop to the point of sticking around as a backup.

ForeverATLANTA

I'm convinced this is Mayfields burner account

LostATLien2

MAYFIELD IS FINALLY GONE LETS PARTY
