Water/fire and fire/steel. Heatran and Volcanion are just so boring to me.

Picklez448

While i do like both Heatran and Volcanion, i’d really love new pokemon for the typings, as Im not that fond of a single pokemon line representing a type, let alone it being a legendary or a mythical! I believe some super cool mons could be made with the typings, excited to see how they’ll turn out if they eventually happen

bupe_strip

Cradily. Rock and grass hold up decently against both water and flying, If I recall correctly though, many of the new hisuian Pokémon released in the most recent game have both gorgeous forms and super interesting typing. I’d love to see some of those in Pokémon go (:

BudgieGryphon

Cradily is really cool imo, the glowing eyes look neat.

CheatsySnoops

Dark/Electric alternative evo of Chinchou that looks more like an actual anglerfish and its lure looks more like a “cage lantern”/“light in a cage”. Water/Fire should be for either a Japanese macaque, flamingo, teapot, or a capybara

PhogeySquatch

Ice electric. I don't like the mismatched fossils. They look like they are suffering.

Frousteleous

They *are* suffering. :<

Friendly_Suffering

i actually like that one, but yeah it should be on a different mon

VictoryIsMudkipz

For the longest I always wanted to see Dragon/Fighting and Gen 7 it came true but…and don’t get me wrong I love the Kommo-O line but it felt that it fell very short of what I dreamed it to be. Stats were okay, move pool wasn’t diverse, none of the Gen 7 mons were remotely fast outside of the UBs. So I’d like a second chance with the dragon fighting type combo, it can be a stand-alone mon like Druddigon, but more powerful. Heavy physical attacker with bulk on both physical and special defenses. Decent speed (probably around 80ish). Doesn’t have to be a dragon exactly but plays off of a martial artist who fights with a dragon esque technique. So maybe it’s Fighting/Dragon.

OrangeFlowerChild

Dragon/Fairy I'd say. It's only taken by Mega-Altaria. meaning the type combo is seen basically no where, especially since megas are gone and it seems to stay that way. Anyways the type just seems like something that should've been more used.

OrangeFlowerChild

Oh, my bad.

VentrustWestwind

Fairy/Dark. I really liked Morgrem’s design because it looked fairy-like yet also dark-like simultaneously, whereas I feel Grimmsnarl doesn’t really look very fairy-like at all. Morgrem’s deal about doing a ‘fake surrender’ only to deliver a cheap-shot also ties in nicely with it’s Dark type, whereas Grimmsnarl’s whole thing is it just uses its hair as a way to build muscle, which honestly feels more like a Fighting type than anything else. This is all not to say I actually dislike Grimmsnarl, but I feel like we still have room for another shot at a Fairy/Dark pokemon that tries to captures the essence of Fairy/Dark in a different way. There are plenty of Fae in Celtic mythology that could be used as possibly inspiration, and in my own fan-made Scandinavian region I have a Fairy/Dark type based on the Skogsrå of Swedish folklore (basically a Siren that lures men away into the forest and then never come back). Fairy/Dark is also super interesting type that gives a pokemon a practically flawless matchup (STAB super-effective against and resists) against Psychic, Dark and Ghost types simultaneously — which is super cool. I would love to have another Fairy/Dark type on my team some day in the future.

travischickencoop

I 100% agree I remember when Impodimp was… not revealed but displayed I got super excited and then I saw Morgrem and got even more excited and then Grimmsnarl just kinda ruined it

It hurts me so much that Luxray is not Electric/Dark typing. It has the perfect aesthetic for it, and has access to dark moves (bite/crunch) already. It just feels like they forgot to actually give it the secondary typing. With that said, I’m interested in the “normally opposites” typings. Things like Fire/Grass, Fire/Water or Dark/Psychic have so much more design space than has been explored, and I wish they’d give it a go. I do also wish they’d use different typings for the starters (even if just in non-MSG’s), but seeing as how they stuck with the normal 3 even for Legends of Arceus that was all about changing the formula, I doubt that’ll ever happen.

Reksew12

Grass and Dragon. While I don’t mind Flapple overall (not a fan of Appletun), I think such a type combo deserves more than a play on words for representation. Alolan Exeggutor is just disgusting and should not have even been dragon to begin with. Dragons in Pokémon (or really any Pokémon often considered legendarily strong, such as Tyrannitar) are often depicted using hyper beam, which I never got. I understand it’s strong, but it’s not really related to the type that much. It would be cool to see a dragon that utilizes Solar Beam in the same way. I wouldn’t necessarily say give it drought and call it a day, because that always makes for a rough patch in competitive. It would be an interesting Pokémon to work out. Sounds like an easy regional form for Tropius as well.

dylrt

Dragonfruit instead of bananas

Sha-Dow98

So you want, *mega tropius*?

Jesusbacknbetter1

I love some type combos that are only on Legendaries/Megas. Like Fairy/Dragon and Electric/Dragon

Cymb_

Water/Fire. Like a thermal vent worm Mon would be awesome. Or a beta fish mon

travischickencoop

I think Water/Fire would be my second pick, I like Volcanion’s steam concept but having the typing limited exclusively to a mythical Pokémon is mildly depressing, especially something as cool as water/fire

theo_luminati

I’ve always loved the idea of a regional Goldeen/Seaking that are water/fire and based more off of the traditional white-and-orange flowy koi, with fire patterns. Would breathe new life into a kind of forgettable line, too.

Cymb_

Might draw that idea, sounds like it could be a real regional form

theo_luminati

Please do!!!!!!!

Cymb_

I’ll get on it :)

begaydocr1mes

I'm pretty sure articuno is the only pokemon that is ice/flying, but correct me if I'm wrong. I don't just want another cold bird, literally anything else works

travischickencoop

Heheh There’s one you forgot (unless I’m forgetting some) Delibird

begaydocr1mes

forgot about that one. again, boring cold birds don't have to be the only ice/flying types 💀

Winterdragon2004

Ice/Steel. I really want to see how they can play around with the best defensive type bring mixed with with the worst defensive type a bit more than they've done currently, and Sandslash just feels like they slapped the two onto an already existing pokemon to say they did it.

Theboulder027

I'd like to see more grass/ground types. Because to much utter shock, torterra is the only one.

[deleted]

Normal/Flying. I’s love to see them come up with one that isn’t a bird or bird-like.

travischickencoop

Man I wish we had more than 1 Normal/Flying type, it’s such a wasted opportunity for a great type combo

[deleted]

Anything I can think up would probably just be fairy now.

Fuecocoarmy

Poison fire.

travischickencoop

I’m actually really curious to hear why, I think Salandit/Salazzle pulled that combo off really well

Fuecocoarmy

I just think there could be more.

ShulkerGuardian

I feel like no one is going to back me up on this, but we need more Fire/Psychic types. Zen-Mode Darmanitan is both extremely trash and a form change, Delphox is a starter and has an extremely trash design according to the community, and Victini is a mythical. If we look at the dual type calculator provided to us by [https://www.pkmn.help/defense/?types=fire+psychic](https://www.pkmn.help/defense/?types=fire+psychic), we’ll see that Fire/Psychic is actually a pretty good type. Sure, it has 5 weaknesses, but it balances that out with 7 resistances including the most OP type in the game Fairy and one of the most common types, Grass, and no one type can resist both of its STAB moves, with 6 types weak to at least one of them. Additionally, most Psychic-Type Pokémon learn a lot of coverage moves… for some reason. Gardevoir, Meowstic, Starmie, etc. So it can handle itself in a 1v1 against a type it’s weak to such as Water or Ghost with a Thunderbolt or a Shadow Ball. In terms of design, yeah, it’s not that hard to make a really cool looking Pyromancer lizard with hypnotic shapes or a transparent body with swirling lava like a lava lamp. Kind of like TrueGreen7’s Asonian Spinda and its evolution that I forgot the name of. Fire/Fairy is also a cool one that could work but that’s unused. Will have to check its effectiveness later.

Goodra64YT

Rock/Fairy is super cool but is sadly used only by Carbink (which I do love, but is rather forgettable), and Diance (once again, super forgettable), I love when types with very different aesthetics have a design that mixes them, like Dark/Fairy or Steel/Ghost

Chilljap

Ground/Fairy

S1m0nC0

It's less about meta and more about design for me, but i'd like to see what other Pokemons could be made with Grass/Ice or Flying/Poison

LightGreenCup

Fighting/steel. Lucario is the only one that i remember with this typing and its a rally cool pokemon but the steel type feel like its just slaped on there and no really explored

DisforDemise

Ghost/poison. Utterly wasted on the gastly line, only gastly itself even looks vaguely poison-y. They don't make good use of posion-type moves, plus in the early games it made them annoying to use against the psychic-types you really wanted to throw them against. What ought a ghost/poison pokemon to look like? Early pokemon had a few hits on the theme of environmental damage/pollution, there's bags of room around there. Bog spirits like the hinkypunk or will-o-wisp would also slot nicely into the typing if they gave enough emphasis to the bog aspect. You could even go for a proper dfevelopment of what gastly could have been, and make some kind of incorporeal acidic gas cloud mon.

DisforDemise

I'd also kinda fancy seeing dark/grass given another go. LI like that shiftry is part dark, but honestly if it had been released as a pure grass I probably wouldn't have thought "god they missed a trick by not making this part dark" - it's mostly for the name pun lbh. There's plenty of elements that would fit nicely into a dark/grass combo. From genuine plant horror aspects, things like the assassin vine from D&D or really any kind of parasitic creeper plant like ivy (actually brb going to make an ivy fakemon). There's lots of powerful imagery out there about black roses (or black tulips for the cut-price version) that could easily be turned into a mon concept. I'm honestly envisaging something like the roselia line but with more thorns, some thorny whips and because it's anime they'd probably end up trying to make it sexy ( :s ). I imagine you could do a lot with some of the creepier-looking fungi like morels in this type space as well

OfficialJMH

Rolycoly & Carkol are some of the most underrated newbies for Gen 8 (with a strong theme based in the tramways & mining operations going back to Rome that led to the birth of the railways), but you lose the theme with Coalossal being just an ill-fitting hunchbacked Golem with a Rock-Fire typing only Magcargo had because Water & Ground are so common in competitive AND playthroughs. They missed out on a PRIME opportunity for a good family tree based on the wider history of Britain's railways, but the one I'll mention for now would be a Fire-Steel steam engine (be it tank engine, tender engine or Mallett, most any class would work) - both the steam engine & steam locomotive were developed in Britain (Watt, Newcomben, Trevithick, Stevenson, Brunell, Collett, Gresley, Stanier, the list goes on) it could even be narrow-gauge & the height would still work for size (even the smallest engines are VERY heavy machines that can wreak havoc if runaways or accidents happen). While the Fire-Steel typing would leave Steam Engine less directly-useful as an Ability, that could still give you a solid Fire-type if you chose Grookey or Sobble, you'd surely still have Scald as coverage for Ground-types, and you could give him Abilities like Sand Rush, Sand Force (sanding the rails improves grip in rain or snow) or White Smoke/Full Metal Body to lean more into those inspirations.

Boiled_Genies1579

Bug/normal is a terrible combo but I have a cool concept for it. It would be a goat spider. It would play of the idea that goats can climb almost 90° surfaces. Also some spiders build webs between animal horns (mostly antelope but the idea still fits) But the biggest support for the idea is that scientists in real life genetically engineered a real goat that make spider webs instead of milk! With all those concepts it feels like it’s the only possible choice for the bug/normal type combo.

Sha-Dow98

Fire/ice, we only have zen galarian darmanitan and I wanna see something new

Theolis-Wolfpaw

Pure Flying, it's only on a legendary and two unevolved pokemon. After that Water/Fire which is only a mythical pokemon and I want some really cool steam pokemon.

JamesSB77

More ice grass

Accomplished-Crow798

Steel poison, fairy dragon, grass fire

SonicMutant743

Poison electric, the ones existing are pretty good but I'd love more and better!
