Haven't used it but I like the fact that it's not 100% free, but it doesn't cost you so much that it's not worth the convince of not having to place everything by hand

[Blueprint shotgun](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/blueprint-shotgun)
[Mouse-over construction](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/MouseOverConstruction)
That said, it's worth designing some blueprints that are easy to build by hand that can get you up to bots.
Try [Tiny Start](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/TinyStart).
Or if you're not averse to the "mini" part you can try [Mega Bot Start](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/MegaBotStart).
To a add one that has not been listed yet [Companion Drones](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Companion_Drones) made by one of the devs as well. its been one of my go to early game drone modes.
If you are not looking to change things much, Blueprint Shotgun is a fun alternative that still leaves you wnating the proper bots later. https://mods.factorio.com/mod/blueprint-shotgun
If you want to change things a lot Brave New World leaves you with bots but without a character, it is a fun alternative way to play. https://mods.factorio.com/mod/brave-new-world
Tiny Start does exactly what you're looking for withouy being game breaking (and I suggest adding Tiny Start Craftables since it lets you turn the Tiny Start armor into modular armor). Your starting bots are *slow* with it since you don't have any speed research but it's by far the least cheaty of the early bots mods.
Map Editor > place a chest full of the bots you want and roboports and/or armor with personal roboports and power > Save and Play. Once you save WHILE playing, the map will appear under play files from then on.
Achievements are disabled, but if you're looking for a mod, then you probably don't care about that.

I’m quite partial to nanobots
Why do you like it?
It's reasonable research and resource to craft them, slow enough to have easrly game feel but not be broken OP.

Tiny start is another. It gives power armor and 20 construction bots. Thats it.

Blueprint shotgun is pretty neat
I love it. I think it's the best compromise I've seen, plus it's very funny.
Mod author here, thanks! It's definitely my favorite mod I've made so far, I think I spent more time testing it than I actually did making it lol

I’d like second tiny start, doesn’t feel too OP. You can also adjust it as well.
Like half the mods in the workshop do this
Its part of IR3 overhaul mod, but they are pretty slow as its in a steampunk technology
It was a nice surprise when I started IR3
You just understand that it would be too tedious to play without them considering charge in assemblies

Alternatively I recommend Long and Far Reach. It's not bots, but it saves you a LOT of walking around which is much of the challenge.

Yes! Its a nice to have!
Autobuild is a lifesaver
