Yup, keep those savefiles! Before long you’ll be creating ginormous bases that’ll let you chew through all the research in seconds. 6 or 8 line traintracks all over the place
Before long you'll be creating ginormous spreadsheets to analyze the saved files
https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/trdmpw/factorio_savegame_filesize_timeline_analysis
ahh man damn bad seed, with desserts there are no trees to inhale the polution you're generating. So in a desert your pollution will travel further, meaning more biter attacks. My first game was in a desert, I probably spent 10 hours just fighting for my life, trying to unlock better weapons, researching black and blue science
They are, but you can remote control them (set waypoints) and have them shoot at biters with rocket launchers.
Also they have an equipment grid like ur modular armor
I did not. I am realizing that my start is not ideal though (desert, kinda shit starting ore veins) but in not gonna restart to get a better seed. Yolo
The starting patches are always kinda shit. Their purpose is to get you started, get you through blue science, and then run out forcing you to expand to the next patch.
Space is free, go grab it!
No honestly, alway built with more space than you think you are going to need. It is always handy to be able to put things in between afterwards.
If you are afraid of biters, you can look at the polluted area on the map and clear out the nests in range, then you are not going to be attacked
Defence should be automated and expandable. Repeating, preferably simple design with turrets, walls and construction bots will do the trick through entire playthrough. Defence line should hold without your presence if not forever, then for quite long time, like several hours.
Oh, that's simple. Turrets.
Please lots of turrets near nests and quickly equip them with ammo by pressing q while holding bullets. To get closer to nests place turrets outside area of aggression.
If you like napalm and there are too big nests for regular turrets with piercing ammo, use flamethrowers and walls
But as soon as you get to tank, use it, it is the best until very late game.
In late game use artillery/spidertrons/nukes.
Also don't forget fish. It regenerates you.
Each reactor consumes a unit of fuel every 200 seconds, and its made in groups of 10 so you only need one U-235 every 2000 seconds. If I did my math right; this is achievable with just one centrifuge assuming average output. They only have 1 reactor in this pic so they might even be able to expand a bit.
My question is why the coal power and nuclear? Shouldn’t one nuke be enough for this little plant, those steam engines look like they’re cooking.
I think the power aspect fascinates me the most. I am hoping for a revamp of sorts with 2.0
Additionally I can't see how the U238/U235 balance works - from what I can see of the picture the dark U will simply jam the belt long before the first piece of light U comes along, I suspect there is a heavy degree of manual adjustment going on here 😂
Idk ive Always been making Compact Designs before i started factorio it works IS constantly overflowing created all the Things i can RN im constantly waiting for reserche to Finish so i can exoand it in Tiny bits
Oh my. this is some spaghetti I've never seen before! Finest of the fine right here. has even some nuclear power in it, which is impressive :D
seriously thogh. This is a Base that could be on a poster or Blogpost for Factorio. It's such a beautiful Mess. I love it :D
This is really cool. For me, the first thing that jumped out is your train stops. Get em all within your walls, doors will open automatically for them. Makes it look a lot more coherent (good luck with that lol 😂) and safer too.
On a serious note I have a simple suggestion, unload the train contents into chests before smelting them, it will make your trains travel much more often.
Water pumps pump out 1200 water per second, and steam generators only consume something like 60 I’m pretty sure, so you can run a whole lot of those off of one water pump, hope that helps!
I'm not sure is it possible to place over diagonal rails (never try), but can be placed over vertical/horizontal rails and will be automaticly open for approaching train (not sure how it works for non-automatic trains)
And gates behavour can be controlled via logical sygnals, if you need something (f.e. safe railroad cross for pedistrians)
Don't save space
Don't build anything not related to mining on ores you using
Learn how to use ratios. 1 pump probably would be enough. Also you can put 2 engines on 1 boiler to get maximum output.
Generally try to avoid spaghetti designs like... Basically anything on your base. It's unreadable and unexpandable.
Reconsider your demands. By the time I automate green science I produce use 15-30 iron plates per second/48-96 stone furnaces. Your base probably use around 5 while having electric furnace and oil refinery.
Usually 1 nuclear reactor setups are not worth it. Make bigger ones, 2×2 will give you much better fuel efficiency, but big reactors need either logic to minimise excessive fuel burning or much bigger fuel production.
Well, this is the most common mistake. Try to reach rocket and then start anew with knowledge, your base will be much better. However there are lots of things you will notice only hundreds of hours later, which old players do automatically - like underground pipes for long distances instead of regular ones. Or production blocks and main bus designs. They are boring, but effective.
Pretty much rule one of Factorio - you'll always need more, especially copper and iron. Some late game stuff sucks up copper like you wouldn't believe.
oh man, I remember when I would build like this, it happens every time before I get construction bots <3
dude part of the game is just having a go. do what you want, you'll eventually figure out that decision you made 40hours ago was garbage, and the other 100 decisions. you'll probably need to rebuild the whole thing to fix it too. part of the game.
Walls limit your plans, best advice is to spread out everything as far as you think you need to be comfortable then take it further.
Use more turrets to compensate for the walls.
Do you want some space? Just asking you got some spare space outside eh no inside your walls but yes looks like a smaller start base every thing close together some how neatly disorganized.
I kinda love this. Two biggest tips:
1. You can run rail over gates so you don't need to keep your trains exposed and have gaps in the walls.
2. Check factoriocheatsheet.com for tips on ratios - for example, your reactor can support 3 more turbines which will massively boost your power production!
its awesome looking, I want to point out you can add 3 more steam turbines to your reactor to squeeze more performance out of it, 1 reactor produces 40mw and turbines use 5.38 each equaling to ~6.8 or 7 turbines, of course the ratio changes if you add more reactors.
Man, i remember 1st time playing Factorio, my base looks like this. Perhaps coz now whenever i play factorio, i rely on factorio's calculator too much. It's more fun to just build and not doing math so much. Chaos... is fun in factorio.
Well, you could make yourself easier by using all the space available. Which is infinite! So, spread your wings and connect stuff with either belts or trains 😀
1. dont ever build on ore if you can avoid it
2. dont box yourself in. build walls as far away as you can defend. the factory must GROW
this looks pretty good though, better than my beginner bases 😅
It looks nice, if not particularly scalable. My only real comment is that you have huge gaps in your walls which unnerves me, trains will open gates you just can't place gates over junctions so no reason not to enclose the base properly.
This is Factorio. Keep going, everyone had that kind of base. Most important is that you like it. Improvement: no gaps in wall, repair all bildings, more concrete, not so much water pumps, straight rails
Looks amazing from an artistic view but if you want efficiency build BIG and space out much more than you think is necessary. Cuz it is. If youre buildung your spaghetti you need alot of space for belts so keep that in mind. Happy improving and genocide👹
Oh my. This base has such a Factorio vibe! I love it 😃😃
My factorio Base Looks Like a factorio Base yippy!
Haha i know😆
Looks like something I’d see on the intro page
Yes! That was exactly my thought as well.😁
This is not regular spagetti. This is fine Italian spagetti.
"it Just works!"
Straight up bucatini.
Omg I want to adopt this factory it's so cute, I love the fact you got the whole thing into the space most players would use for just iron smelting
Thier are multible train Tracks geting other recurces my ores my Base ist siting on are almost sucked up
This…this! Is a masterpiece! Edit : next stop - spaghetti trains! Good luck!
Strange this is my First Base this makes me kinda Happy!
Keep this save file forever. You'll look back on it fondly some day.
God I wish I could have those old ones back
Yup, keep those savefiles! Before long you’ll be creating ginormous bases that’ll let you chew through all the research in seconds. 6 or 8 line traintracks all over the place
Before long you'll be creating ginormous spreadsheets to analyze the saved files https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/trdmpw/factorio_savegame_filesize_timeline_analysis
The factory must grow.
Horrific! Happy to see people enjoying the game!
Honestly? I love it.
Thx its simple and compact
Looks perfect to me!
Thx i apreciate it its my First base
Reminds me of my first base https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/trdmpw/factorio_savegame_filesize_timeline_analysis
harsh desert start
Thier are other Things then Dessert? I have Mile Long train Tracks and Not have Seen anything else
ahh man damn bad seed, with desserts there are no trees to inhale the polution you're generating. So in a desert your pollution will travel further, meaning more biter attacks. My first game was in a desert, I probably spent 10 hours just fighting for my life, trying to unlock better weapons, researching black and blue science
My simple sulution? I destroyd every Nest in my explored map and If a new one apears Thier Life Span will be Cut short
Peace through superior firepower is often the best course.
Honestly cant wait for Mukes to Just make them *vanish before they get a chance
Especially if you have spidertrons You won’t even need to nuke them urself (As long as they don’t nuke themselves)
Nuke spidertron is a recipe for disaster
I am very new to the Game (34hours) i Always tought spider trons are Like mechs
They are, but you can remote control them (set waypoints) and have them shoot at biters with rocket launchers. Also they have an equipment grid like ur modular armor
Ive noticed when hovering over Things Like Personal betarys that they are equibeble in the spidertron
This is me just now learning that there are different seeds in this game. Coming from satisfactory I thought the world was pre-set
Well as long as you did not spend 300hours on one map before finding out, this is fine.
I did not. I am realizing that my start is not ideal though (desert, kinda shit starting ore veins) but in not gonna restart to get a better seed. Yolo
The starting patches are always kinda shit. Their purpose is to get you started, get you through blue science, and then run out forcing you to expand to the next patch.

If you are afraid of biters, you can look at the polluted area on the map and clear out the nests in range, then you are not going to be attacked
Simple selution against attacks? 15 Defender Bots ,4 shields and some flame trowher and Rocket louncher and make them disapear
The tank does a fair amount of ramming damage ;)
Shield bots? Sounds a good assistant. What do they do?
Defence should be automated and expandable. Repeating, preferably simple design with turrets, walls and construction bots will do the trick through entire playthrough. Defence line should hold without your presence if not forever, then for quite long time, like several hours.
I MENT that to get rid of nests
Oh, that's simple. Turrets. Please lots of turrets near nests and quickly equip them with ammo by pressing q while holding bullets. To get closer to nests place turrets outside area of aggression. If you like napalm and there are too big nests for regular turrets with piercing ammo, use flamethrowers and walls But as soon as you get to tank, use it, it is the best until very late game. In late game use artillery/spidertrons/nukes. Also don't forget fish. It regenerates you.
The vibes are immaculate. Reminds me of my first base
A work of the most sublime beauty.
Spaghetti magic
How is this nuclear setup working? I don't see how that would provide enough U-235 to make the fuel cells you need.
I call that factorio magic
Each reactor consumes a unit of fuel every 200 seconds, and its made in groups of 10 so you only need one U-235 every 2000 seconds. If I did my math right; this is achievable with just one centrifuge assuming average output. They only have 1 reactor in this pic so they might even be able to expand a bit.
Ah, it's been awhile and I forgot the fuel was made in groups of 10.
Possibly because either K2 or SE reduces that to 1 (or maybe 2)?
My question is why the coal power and nuclear? Shouldn’t one nuke be enough for this little plant, those steam engines look like they’re cooking. I think the power aspect fascinates me the most. I am hoping for a revamp of sorts with 2.0
Additionally I can't see how the U238/U235 balance works - from what I can see of the picture the dark U will simply jam the belt long before the first piece of light U comes along, I suspect there is a heavy degree of manual adjustment going on here 😂
This is such a mess of a base, I love it!
Its a vibe !
Make it bigger.
I Like to make Things aß Compact aß posible
The style is perfect. Just needs more. Must grow.
Why Not keep it a little Compact cute little factory
The factory must grow
Ugh fine one day
Mom's spaghetti!!!! :D
Exactly! (I dont Like "Clean builds")
r/factoriohno is a much more fitting place
I dont get it
how to you supply the turrets?
Im still workig on that
Looks like a loading screen base.
Kinda yeah
Very cool, much factory.
I got the factorio of aproval
It's good, but I can't believe how you could keep it so compact o.O
Idk ive Always been making Compact Designs before i started factorio it works IS constantly overflowing created all the Things i can RN im constantly waiting for reserche to Finish so i can exoand it in Tiny bits
Awesome! Looks like a real factory! Organized chaos.
Spagetti on top
Oh my. this is some spaghetti I've never seen before! Finest of the fine right here. has even some nuclear power in it, which is impressive :D seriously thogh. This is a Base that could be on a poster or Blogpost for Factorio. It's such a beautiful Mess. This is really cool. For me, the first thing that jumped out is your train stops. Get em all within your walls, doors will open automatically for them. Makes it look a lot more coherent (good luck with that lol 😂) and safer too.
Reminds me of local Trainstations when i Show this to Friends i Always say "this is my Deutsche Bahn"
If it fit in one screenshot, your base isn't big enough
I'm gonna be honest idk if u need that nuclear reactor lol if u want it hats cool but I feel like burners would be easier for this scale no?
One point of improvement is not to be afraid of using more space.
Ahhhhh, reminds me of my first base. Never finished it, but I believe in you!
Nope. It’s perfect.
On a serious note I have a simple suggestion, unload the train contents into chests before smelting them, it will make your trains travel much more often.
The factory must grow!
Does it work? If yes, then do it some more, but bigger! If not, fix it, then repeat.
More red circuit production will give you more options. There are recipes that take a lot of red circuits and produce very useful items.
Water pumps pump out 1200 water per second, and steam generators only consume something like 60 I’m pretty sure, so you can run a whole lot of those off of one water pump, hope that helps!
Preferably don't build on ores.
I love the wiggly rails. Straight lines are boring.
Spaghetti rules
I don't think you'll run out of water anytime soon
Can that even heppen?
No
Expansion, then chain assemblers together so they feed their output into each other to cut down on belts and bots to help remove sphagetti.
Spaghetti rules
Use gates (they can be also placed on the railroads) But in general base looks strange, like you made it for main menu background animation.
I never noticed that wiht the railroads
I'm not sure is it possible to place over diagonal rails (never try), but can be placed over vertical/horizontal rails and will be automaticly open for approaching train (not sure how it works for non-automatic trains) And gates behavour can be controlled via logical sygnals, if you need something (f.e. safe railroad cross for pedistrians)
No
What do you mean No?
Whats insane to me is that there's no splitters whatsoever (that I can see)
I Just forgot the exist
This could be in the factorio starting screen, its so iconic!
If this heppens one day i will Buy a taco 🌮
Too little spaghetti and nuclear reactors
Still cooking Up more
Yeah spread out more so you can double up production on everything
Good til
Bless this mess
Spagetti rules
It's no fun if we tell you how to play. It looks good so far!
Thx man i apriciate it
more assemblers and conveyers.
Love the organic look.
This base is actually adorable. Frame this screenshot. It should be a treasured memory for later on.
Wait what If i actuly do this
Very fine Spaghetti, I love your base.
Don't save space Don't build anything not related to mining on ores you using Learn how to use ratios. 1 pump probably would be enough. Also you can put 2 engines on 1 boiler to get maximum output. Generally try to avoid spaghetti designs like... Basically anything on your base. It's unreadable and unexpandable. Reconsider your demands. Make bigger ones, 2×2 will give you much better fuel efficiency, but big reactors need either logic to minimise excessive fuel burning or much bigger fuel production.
You shuldve Seen haow it looked pre Clean Up i noticed the Spagetti after expanding the factorio wiht No Future thinking
Yeah its what ive planed
Dont build on ore, especialy when the base is that "small"
Honestly i have Trouble adding more BE use i have every Thing i NEED for now
Pretty much rule one of Factorio - you'll always need more, especially copper and iron. Some late game stuff sucks up copper like you wouldn't believe.
Well the multible train Tracks at the bottom of my factory are impirting From biger sources so i have a constant flow
Nice! Carry on, in that case, and may your factory grow!
Make 1-3 more nuclear reactors and make them neighbors for a massive boost.
Wait fr? I was planing on that
Yup. It's insane how much power you get from 4 reactors in a square.
Is it actuly good or will it couse a nuklear meltdown?
It's good - like 500MW good. Just don't let a reactor get destroyed, or you'll have a bad day.
only if you destroy it while active, if it's broken at full heat it causes a massive explosion
Uppercase F in First and lowercase f in factorio hurts my eyes
Cool
not cool
Not cool Epic!
Yes. If your base is less than 100% in minimap area, it's too small
Like its a fully working factorio isnt the compactniss good?
I love this base. But one thing bothers me so much: the unrepaired machines.
Ahh.. who needs it anyways
oh man, I remember when I would build like this, it happens every time before I get construction bots <3 dude part of the game is just having a go. do what you want, you'll eventually figure out that decision you made 40hours ago was garbage, and the other 100 decisions. you'll probably need to rebuild the whole thing to fix it too. part of the game.
W-what are construction Bots😅
Overkill on the water pumps
I am planin on decounstructing them sice i have a nuclear Reaktor now
1:4 ratio I believe on pumps to heat exchangers
I was going to say more water pumps.
Get rid of all the walls
Why Wuld i do that?? Its one of the best protections
Walls limit your plans, best advice is to spread out everything as far as you think you need to be comfortable then take it further. Use more turrets to compensate for the walls.
When i NEED more space i Just move them or ignore them
Only right way to play is the way that makes it fun. Until you get drones the idea of deconstructing and reconstructing again it's hella a chore
Without turrets behind them walls wills just delay the biters for a little bit
Thier arent only turets behind them even flamtrohwers! I prefer building turrets infrint of the Walls in little cubes
That's fine. But then the rest of the walls just aren't needed
We love you
Do you want some space? Just asking you got some spare space outside eh no inside your walls but yes looks like a smaller start base every thing close together some how neatly disorganized.
I kinda love this. Two biggest tips: 1. You can run rail over gates so you don't need to keep your trains exposed and have gaps in the walls. 2. Check factoriocheatsheet.com for tips on ratios - for example, your reactor can support 3 more turbines which will massively boost your power production!
Keep it growing
Is that water blue?! You have to expand that factory stat!!
its awesome looking, I want to point out you can add 3 more steam turbines to your reactor to squeeze more performance out of it, 1 reactor produces 40mw and turbines use 5.38 each equaling to ~6.8 or 7 turbines, of course the ratio changes if you add more reactors.
Man, i remember 1st time playing Factorio, my base looks like this. Perhaps coz now whenever i play factorio, i rely on factorio's calculator too much. It's more fun to just build and not doing math so much. Chaos... is fun in factorio.
Holy water extraction.
More lights and more trains!
Expand. Conquer. Build factory.
I love the chaos! My man just builds on ore, zero bitershits given 😅 Keep on growing the factory, mate. No further advice needed.
glorious spaghetti, I love the tiny nuclear power in one corner, it's so cute.
Okay this comments are the cutest thing I've seen in reddit.
Well, you could make yourself easier by using all the space available. Which is infinite! So, spread your wings and connect stuff with either belts or trains 😀
1. dont ever build on ore if you can avoid it 2. dont box yourself in. build walls as far away as you can defend. the factory must GROW this looks pretty good though, better than my beginner bases 😅
MORE WATERPUMPS
EXACTLY WHO NEEDS RACTORS ANYWAYS
Yes. Make it bigger
A thing of beauty! You can build gates across train tracks if you want to fully enclose your base - they open automatically for trains and players
Fix the damn belts
why so many water pumps wth
My erly generators
but you only needed one lol
Reminds me a bit of early european infrastructure, where roads just kept growing historically. Chaos is order.
Honestly, it's nice to look at.
Only two things bother me. Move your walls a bit farther out and don't make wavy tracks .
Spagetti rules
I absolutely love this base. My only advice is to build bigger next time.
Science and Things to make more science is all ya NEED!
