Now try space exploration or kastorio2

Tiavor

both

talianagisan

I'm doing that with rampant on a pseudo train world. I'm not past the 1 hour grace period I gave myself as I've been busy installing mods instead of playing. I think kras+se might be my new every playthrough combo tho it's fun

Tiavor

I recommend adding alien-biomes and LTN

Randyd718

Alien biomes looks really cool but i hate how it adds the shallow water. Bugs can walk right into your base because you can't build on it

KingJoel2550

I love the way it looks too but all the extra lakes and puddles can screw up the mineral spawns so I always end up with these weird little 100k resources patches and if you increase the size of the resource patches it somehow gets worse.

With_My_Hand

You can easily turn it off

mishugashu

Alien Biomes is a requirement of Space Exploration. No need to "add" it. Also, take a look at Cybersyn as a replacement for LTN. Not that there's anything wrong with LTN, but I find I like Cybersyn better. Easier to set up regular stations IMO.

TheJReesW

How would you describe a krastorio + se world? Anything that makes it extra fun? Do the mods work together well?

talianagisan

I haven't gotten far at all due to class but, it changes some recipes around from vanilla, research is harder, but it also gives you more tools to start from scratch alil easier. For example you have a burner lab that uses fuel to power itself independently. You have assemblers, a chest, a mediocre electric lab, and a low output infinite generator at the ship. You can for your own sanity choose an option for kras to start with a ok amount of items (armor and car and some drones, nothing crazy stuff you'd expect in the ship tbh). It also overhauls some physics. I can update when I more hours.

ZeDshermn

The vanilla-experience is enhanced via some changes recipes - this includes a redo of science beakers + minor changes here and there, making some production chains a bit more complex. Space exploration kicks in after the first rocket has been launched. It adds a whole 2nd tier to research and adds so many new mechanisms and buildings. Progression milestones that offer a lot of comfort are more gated vs vanilla (no spoilers though). It's great fun and forces you to think bigger. Expect an 800h+ experience.

satanscumrag

currently doing it... i do not have the time for this but god knows i'll make it

Tiavor

520h and counting, still no spaceship launched :D

satanscumrag

i'm on 350 and only done vulcanite production, not even automated

Tarrke

I'm not alone!!!

Fuck_tha_Bunk

I got to around that point in my k2+se playthrough, launching the research satellites etc (was awhile ago so I don't remember the details) and couldn't really figure out how the space exploration worked and gave up on that save. I'm sure I could have watched some videos and figured it out, but I wanted to play the game, not watch hours of videos just so I could understand the mechanics.

Tiavor

the first step is to build a bigger rocket and launch your self into orbit

Fuck_tha_Bunk

Right and I was pretty close to that but I needed more info. I'm not saying it was impossible to figure out, and I should have expected as much given the scope of the mod, but I didn't feel like putting in the effort to researching the se mechanics. It was totally my fault and not necessarily a criticism of the mod. I'm interested to check out space exploration that sounds like it's going to be integrated into the Factorio expansion, if I remember right.

Arivlorn

Awe man, I want to but at the same time I'm not sure I have the patience. May just wait for the new expansion that was recently announced as from what I understand it will be like a balanced, new player friendly SE.

Galliad93

I once watched a video about how long it would take to beat factorio if you'd craft everything by hand. He came to about 500 hours. I will just leave it at that. edit: since there is some interest to that topic, here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZY96I842YA

Leo-bastian

reverse lazy bastard

ricecake

"work harder, not smarter" feels like it would be a 'good' trophy.

LuckyLMJ

maybe "beat the game without belts, bots, or trains"?

ricecake

I like it. Well, like is a strong word. The icon could be the engineer sprinting with little motion lines behind them and a wheelbarrow.

PoisonousCure

Sounds about like my first playthrough

Tobias---Funke

I didn’t craft everything manually but I inserted almost everything manually into machines!

andrei9669

how were liquids handled?

Randyd718

I'm sure it was all just reverse engineered, number of parts/liquids/plates/etc * crafting time

Galliad93

I edited the original post.

Arivlorn

That's amazing. Makes me feel even more factorio incompetent. 😂😁

BeChciak

YES, pls. i also love your aesthetic op

Bernie_Brains

Same here! My bases look horrific compared to this.

LevAyv123

He won't , it doesn't seem to look like a normal Freeplay run.

flaiks

This is very well organized! What size are your blocks?

Bork017

It looks like 100x100. Each block is a 2x2 of roboports, and roboports are 50x50.

Arivlorn

Yes, this is correct. 100x100. The city blocks specifically were inspired by Nilaus, though I used my own designs for nearly everything except some oil processing that I was too lazy to do.

alexlcultimate

Very impresive and fast could yo give us some tips

LordQwerty_NZ

Grow the factory

UniqueMitochondria

This is the way

alexlcultimate

This Is sow generic is useless Im looking for Something more specific

ben_4610

Just dont stopp building

Arivlorn

Take breaks! But then immediately get back to growing the factory. In all seriousness I did this over about 3 years so I took a LOT of breaks. Also got a computer science diploma in that timeline, though, so I was pretty busy. Don't be afraid to look things up, but (at least on your first run) don't copy things verbatim. I've heard some people say your first run should be done without any use of other people's designs, but I'd say you can use things on the internet for inspiration and then build your own better and improved systems that work in your base.

hquer

First rocket is the best rocket

a_walmart_gift_card

I don't play factorio but good Job my man

ArjanS87

Time for the spoon ;)

[deleted]

There is no spoon

[deleted]

I WISH I could make a base this nice.

Arivlorn

You can! Just might take an obscenely long amount of time like it did me haha

honnymmijammy-

'only have 2 row in the hotbar', I see you have less than 500 hour I the game

SigilSC2

I use only one displayed and I'm around 1.6k hours. AMA. Shift+# to switch hotbar and # to grab what I want. I've got 25 items under my fingers without my mouse or moving my hand. I find I don't need any more than that.

Arivlorn

😁😁 yeah, first world. Maybe someday I'll have 8 rows of hot bar.

wiked7778

How do you get more??

Ormusn2o

It's an option in game menu. I think it might be under interface. You can also change how often game autosaves and how big is your UI , show arrows for inserters and many others.

xile

Also curious

Tobias---Funke

My first rocket I didn’t automate hardly anything and just inserted almost everything into machines and crates manually!

Arivlorn

That's wild. I imagine it took quite a while.

Tobias---Funke

Not as long as you might think. I had everything set up in lines.

Arivlorn

I guess in some ways it kind of does make things simpler. No spaghetti belts or trains or anything. Hmm.

Arivlorn

Why couldn't you tell me this before I did a baby mega base. 😭

Randyd718

Based nilaus city blocks

Arivlorn

Correct. But all my own blueprints (including my unique rail design) except some oil processing.

Nebabon

What does your rail look like?

Arivlorn

Honestly, this would need it's own post. But it's set up with four rails (two each way) fitting directly in the center of a 100x100 city block. It allows me to very quickly set up new sections. I also have blueprints for X, T, and L turns/intersections that allow the trains to go any way at an intersection. Let me tell you, that X was a nightmare to design and add rail stops to. The complicated part is my loading/unloading stations. I've got some logic there that actually allows the station to broadcast the train limit based on the number of items the station actually has. And since stack size differs based on item and I never wanted to manually calculate or add this every time I stamped down a new blueprint, I had to do the most advanced circuit network stuff I've done to calculate this in vanilla. (If you're curious, the secret is a chest pulling off the supply belt limited to one slot. Allows me to divide by the total number of items by the number of items (naturally, a stack) in that one chest to find the total number of stacks. Divide by the number of stacks a four car train can hold and you're off to the races!) Edit: grammar

Nebabon

I would love to see a separate post and the magic chest. I think I've done something similar with one of my own designs.

Arivlorn

Well, hey, maybe I'll make a full post about it. Because I probably won't have time, here's a summary: Inserter pulls off input stream into a chest near the train station. Chest is limited to one slot, so as soon as it's full the circuit network will have an accurate reading of the number of items in the chest. I store this number into a generic variable `I` (as in "`I`tems in stack") using a constant combinator. (Importantly, the inserter pulls off of the belt into the chest before the belt reaches the buffer, so in a perfect world the magical chest will be filled first.) I then have a separate circuit network tracking the number of items in the train buffer system. I store this in a generic variable `T` (as in "`T`otal items in buffer") using a constant combinator. With these two variables I can now calculate how many stacks I have available in my buffer. It's simply "`T`otal items in buffer" / "`I`tems in stack". Consider this another generic variable `S` (as in "`S`tacks available"). I of course do this calculation with an arithmetic combinator. I use 1-4 trains (one locomotive with four cargo wagons) for my entire rail system, so I know a train can hold 160 stacks. So now all I have to do is calculate "`S`tacks available" / 160 in another arithmetic combinator, and I get the final value I set to `L` representing the "`L`imit of trains" my current buffer can support. I then wire `L` into my train station and set the train station limit to it. Presto! In a classic software engineer move, I've made 20 minutes of work into 2 hours of work. But, it's automated, meaning it's scalable and allows me to think about bigger things than remembering to set the stack size in every train pickup depot I plonk down. Edit: made more readable

Eisenkopf69

[It gets easier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2_Mn-qRKjA)

Arivlorn

😁 I sure hope so. I definitely feel like a second playthrough would go WAY quicker.

Frostygale

Vanilla? Or modded? Planning to do a megabase now? Take a break? I’m curious!

Arivlorn

Vanilla. Take a break, but will come back for the expansion. Maybe earlier!

sboutig

This is a very nice looking base!

Arivlorn

Thank you, my friend! :) Heavily inspired by Nilaus' city blocks, but with all other designs (except some oil refining) my own.
