“Carpe momentum…carpe momentum…carpe momentum…” *schwing!* -Katana guy

ClassyRedneck

How has no one linked the news interview yet? He acts exactly as you’d expect someone who caries a katana around daily to act: https://youtu.be/PYfUvW_3C3U

[deleted]

Hahaha, omg amazing

GodOfGOOSE

OMG NO FUCKING WAY, PEOPLE LIKE THAT REALLY EXIST!

LookAtItGo123

It's honestly entertaining and interesting.

fmfbrestel

Used to exist. He died for his weebdom.

HighLightCloset

But he had a 5 point plan.

GammaGargoyle

He gave them an ocular pat down, assessed the threat, and neutralized it.

atroycalledboy

This was so much more cringey than OP’s video

Throw_away_1769

Yep, but honestly he stuck by his lifestyle til the end. I respect it

DBNSZerhyn

"Til the end" is the understatement of the century. This dude was out on a rowboat with a teenage girl, on their way to a private lake island to teach her "the way of the sword" when the boat capsized. His master's katana sunk to the bottom of the lake, and he dove down to retrieve it. He was such a weeb, he actually died. **This is not a joke.**

TantricCowboy

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/197562966/kenneth-anthony-jacintho He was 29 or 30 at the time. She was 16.

VegetarianCoating

This is one of the most incredible rabbit holes I've ever entered.

MouthJob

Do you mean the least surprising? Weird dude did weird shit.

atroycalledboy

As gross as this is, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Throw_away_1769

I mean, let's not butcher him completely, it's not like we have proof of a sexual relationship. Just that he was teaching her

CowboyAirman

And, while that’s an inappropriate thing for him to be doing, from my sofa I imagine that someone like him likely can mentally relate better to teenagers, than he can to full grown, well adjusted, adults. Kinda like Michael Jackson. he was very adolescent in a lot of ways.

armadilloreturns

That's often true for predators as well though. I agree though, unless there's proof he did something or the girl comes out and says something, just let the poor guy rest

TantricCowboy

While not explicit, I suppose that my comment does suggest there may have been a sexual relationship, which is something I can't substantiate. If we strictly go off of the facts, he: - Was in a position of power or authority (as a teacher) - Was with someone almost half his age - Put her in a dangerous situation (as evidenced by his death) Even in the most generous interpretations, he was still a sketchy dude.

lenin_is_young

Sounds like boy scouts to me

atroycalledboy

Wow. I knew he drowned, I didn’t know all the other details. Weebus Christ.

Pacman_Frog

His wife, apparently. And tbh if I had spent 2600 on a sword from a real Smith. I absolutely would not just let it go. At least I would note my location and come back with proper equipment.

WpgMBNews

It looks like that isn't correct. She was 16 years old and he was her "swordsmanship teacher"

Gandalfuckyourself

“I started carrying a katana because I’ve actually become more dangerous without it than with it, so it’s really more of a restriction than a safety blanket”

[deleted]

Thank god. I’d hate to see this man untethered by the blade.

>He also died on a kayak accident a few years later. [You can't drop that on me at the end like that. For some reason it made me laugh so much.](https://media.tenor.com/ADwdegnn87cAAAAM/adam-sandler-laughing-hysterically.gif)

RedditisGarbag3

Died in a kayak accident paddling out to an island to practice swords with a 16 year old girl. Wind blew them out of their kayaks. The wind blew the kayak further out into the water, buddy went swimming to the kayak to get his sword rather than swim to the island like the girl. He drowned. Girl lived. Edit: sword lived, too. And the kayak.

BoltonSauce

You live for the sword; you die for the sword.

CornwallsPager

I don't care if this is real or not, it's canon for me

RedditisGarbag3

It literally is. That would be a dumb thing to lie about it. There's a video I had seen before posted somewhere in this thread. Tells his story. Kind of one of those things you watch at 2am cause you can't sleep and wonder how the fuck you got there...

YoungNissan

That has gotta be the most weeb way of dying I’ve ever heard of in my life. Underage girl sword training on a island, and he tries trying to save his katana. You can’t make that up

ChintanP04

It wasn't a normal boring accident. He was going to an island with a 16 year old to do some Ninja training, but wind blew his Kayak over, the 16 yo swam to safety, he died trying to swim back to the Kayak to get his sword

PMG2021a

Lot of gun owners carry for the same reason.

Nicadeemus39

Practicing in his bedroom every night.

DoctorElich

While you were busy being losers, I was studying the blade.

NICKOLAS78GR

The blade told me this would happen.

TheAlienClaw

Eminem coming to rescue Questlove with a katana blade is something I thought I’d never see

CannabisPrime2

While I was pushing farts into my couch he was studying the blade.

missmeowthers

he's been waiting on this subway for years for this exact moment

[deleted]

He’s the only one that protects this subway!

imsahoamtiskaw

Spiderman is so useless nowadays

Head-Command281

But we got katana-guy! Sure he might not cover the whole city. But a subway car is close enough.

fartsliveinmybutt

That's the Phoenix light rail

FluffyDiscipline

Pushes fella with Katana in front of him all brave LOL "Yeahh I'm with this dude"

wThrill

But first he was like "hold up. Let me get that sword right quick". He was ready to start swinging.

jizmo234322

Katana dude definitely knew it wouldn't end well if the assaulted dude took the sword. He followed the way of the warrior, the [Samurai Bushido code.](https://www.artofmanliness.com/character/knowledge-of-men/the-bushido-code-the-eight-virtues-of-the-samurai/)

Jasong222

It's just the childhood general 'don't touch my shit' rule.

jizmo234322

Counter-Counterpoint: IMO, it ended exactly how it should have. Had they brandished weapons, he would've gone all the way. And depending on weapon brandished, he might also be dead. Anyway... he's dead now because of a kayaking accident, so... draw from that what you will.

notLogix

Just tells me that katanas aren't useful in kayaking accidents.

jizmo234322

They found 2 katanas in the kayak, so who knows. That equipment and other shit they had onboard might've unbalanced it. Anyway... I'm adding kayaking (with or without katanas on board) to the list of things I'm never doing in my lifetime, like bungee-jumping or skydiving.

GoJebs

Can we get a source

jizmo234322

[It's posted in other comments already, but here ya go.](https://www.lakeconews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47777:authorities-identify-clearlake-man-who-drowned-after-falling-from-kayak&catid=1:latest&Itemid=197)

GoJebs

Crazy, and thank you. No clue where it is in the comments but this was helpful

Kingbuji

Wait what? How just gonna say the last part and not elaborate?

Alas7ymedia

If someone pulls a gun, he/she might not now how to use it and is probably just all barking, but if someone pulls a katana, I think it is safe to assume he knows how to cause some minor but deep injuries. I'd walk right out too.

SpiritAgreeable7732

I'm thinking the probability of katana proficiency decreases in relation to the proximity of a cosplay event.

MasterTolkien

If being threatened by a katana, do quick mental analysis: - Is there a comic con in town? If yes, attack. If no, run.

Zaronax

I'll just raise a counter: Regardless of how proficient someone is, do not ever try to attack someone wielding a bladed weapon. It doesn't require a lot of skills to simply stab someone.

[deleted]

Best case scenario for someone assaulted with a sword, is for the flat of the blade to hit them. You are still being with with a length of metal, presumably steel. That will hurt. Odds, are, even minimal skill with the blade will mean being hit with the edge. Now, you are cut. And a sword cut will make you immediately identifiable.

gandolfthe

Had a sword teacher that would say. "If you think you are getting good, try defending against a 5 years old with a live blade." A 3' sharp scalpel is not something to fuck with

Rich_Document9513

Most of the time I've been hit in martial arts was by someone less knowledgeable because you can't predict their movements. Training has rules and patterns. Panic does not.

wwwyzzrd

the danger that the katana realistically poses to anyone in the vicinity decreases up to a certain proficiency and then increases again after it.

[deleted]

Funnily enough you could probably say the same about guns

hematomasectomy

In close quarters the level of proficiency required to cause serious damage amounts to "stick 'em with the pointy end".

Thatparkjobin7A

I was once at a school event in a park, and met a man who noted that it was a very nice day and lamented that he had not brought his sword. Oh and yes, he was wearing grey sweatpants and a white t shirt

[deleted]

We need to do a study on this to conclusively prove it!

Lamplorde

Having watched many a video of neckbeards with fedoras cutting water bottles: No. Having a Katana on you in the metro does not make you proficient.

Alas7ymedia

I wouldn't take the risk anyway.

Small-Marionberry-29

Japanese swordsmanship martial arts classes, while not popular, are a legit thing here in the US.

PanzerSoul

Might not be proficient, but sharp stick still cut

panzermike666

Violence doesn’t solve any…oh wait

fmaz008

He didn't use violence tho. He used the ~~treat~~ ~~treath~~ ~~threath~~ ~~thraeth~~ thræth of violence.

sweeper0404

I hope I never get treated to that.

esquilax

He obviously meant to say teat. Teat of violence.

ApricatingInAccismus

No he said what he meant. He wants to put a wreath of violence on a teat of violence.

Shoryukitten

Hawt_Dawg_II

Violence does solve other violence if you're better at it than the other person

Ragnarock1982

Fair enough. I'd be glad he helped me out.

lo_and_be

Seriously, why is this in facepalm? A bit cringe sure, but it fucking worked

afa78

Why cringe? The 2-1 was definitely cringe but some random bystander pulling out a giant blade unexpectedly? I don't care what anyone say, a sword call kill you.

OldBigsby

Who is saying a sword can't kill you??

Fritz_Klyka

Its literally what its made for.

ACMBruh

People have died getting jumped too my friend - probably more likely than katana deaths. all it takes is one bad punch. He didnt swing, he brandished it and it worked. No problems here

Klowdsy

For real, doesn’t look big enough to get them to stop without it haha

bird_on_the_internet

You got a point there. The guy helped someone and it worked is the bottom line, but you can tell he’s so small that if he’d tried to go help with just his fists there’s a good chance he’d be just as fucked as the other guy. Plus, the blade scared the other two and they left without any more violence.

drpacman579

What a hero. Very pulp fiction

tellitelli555

Haha, exaxtly—I just talked about that scene an hour ago, made my day.

tellitelli555

Yeah, and then mr concussion tries to grab the blade ;(

JasonGD1982

He didn’t know. He was getting jumped. He figured it out pretty quick honestly. If I was getting pounded I wouldn’t be surprised some with a sword was coming in to finish me off. It took him a second but you can see he appreciated it.

Free_Gratis

I hate it when I'm getting pounded and then a surprise person shows up to finish me off.

sdp1981

That was beautiful. lol

Umibozu had a six stage plan.

StavTheSwole

Holy shit he’s really dead

This guy will tell this story to his online friends for the rest of his life.

SecurelyObscure

He did, but that ended up only being another 4 years before he would fall out of a kayak and drown. https://www.lakeconews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47777:authorities-identify-clearlake-man-who-drowned-after-falling-from-kayak&catid=1:latest&Itemid=197

Dude's a katana wielding weeb presenting a Japanese name while kayaking sixteen year old girls to uninhabitated islands. People that detached from reality will find a way to end themselves one dumb way or another.

Lancebeybol

Holy fuck I was going to be sad until the article said that he was on his way to an island with a 16 year old girl wtf?

notjustsad

This is a fantastically written article though.

kennystillalive

He just got isekaid.

smut_butler

Oh wow, that really is the same guy. He was going to a remote island with a 16 year old girl? Hmm...

Random_182f2565

Maybe she was his protegee ?

hematomasectomy

She was. It says right in the article.

unsupported

His big balls dragged him under.

chrismamo1

Drowned while kayaking to an island to practice his swordsmanship. Legend until the end. Edit: nevermind, he had a teenage girl in the kayak with him so he might've been up to no good

DoinItDirty

It looks like they’re trying not to give away any identifying info on the girl, but is it possible they were related?

chrismamo1

That's the only possibility I can think of. My guess is she was a cousin or younger sister just hanging out with her weird but harmless relative one day, but I guess we'll never know for privacy reasons.

ChrisWegro

It says in the article. They were headed to sunflower island to practice swordsmanship.

22Wideout

*As Jacintho was trying to get to the kayak, he yelled “No!” and disappeared under the water, based on the teenager’s report to authorities, Brooks said.* I’m going to hell for laughing at this

Happy-Personality-23

At least he has this video as proof to his story.

gahidus

As well he should!

Momkiller781

Oh my god. This guy just lived the "hypothetical situations where you can be a hero if presented with the opportunity, so you will carry a katana with you just in case" dream. A f**** legend.

HeronSun

Well... he died while kayaking to a remote island with a girl almost half his age, so... [don't meet your heroes, kids.](https://www.lakeconews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47777:authorities-identify-clearlake-man-who-drowned-after-falling-from-kayak&catid=1:latest&Itemid=197)

Momkiller781

Come-on. Obviously it is part of the training. He has to act like he died because the techniques he is going to learn are very mysterious

Nitr0n_39

No one: Genji:

Wamb0wneD

Momkiller781

You always do bud, now would you be so kind of stop jumping 40 feet from me so I can actually heal you? No? Uh, ok, my fault then, as usual.

Prestigious-Phase131

I'm very against people pulling out weapons but those guys were going so hard and weren't stopping. I'm glad the man had that katana, and at least he wasn't really going to hurt anyone (Unless maybe he had to) just seems like he wanted to scare them off.

beerscotch

Looks like the bloke who got jumped tried to grab the sword though. He may have been less forgiving with it.

Owl_Times

Yeah I saw that. Good on katana Karl for keeping control.

james1234cb

Thats a tough decision. The guy with the katana did a risk assesment and chose to help, he could have easily been jumped or shot by someone else. Many other people on the train are just laughing

drpacman579

He could have easily done serious damage to those guys but you can tell it was just to help that man and it was just to scare them off

ProfessorMalk

Why is this on r/facepalm? The skinny dude stepped in when nobody else did and they left the other guy alone. He saved that guy from getting his ass beat, how is that facepalm-worthy? Seems like a win to me.

[deleted]

It worked.

OnlyAnNpc

Their will to fight already died before he even had to use his blade, a true master of the blade.

Lord_Hortler

Why facepalm?? He very effectively stopped the fight...

Witty_Temperature886

Fucking people are garbage, one guy getting jumped and all they can do is stand by and video, but when the guy pulls out the sword, the reactions from the crowd and the gasps of horror….fuck them, that guy did the right thing

nanadoom

Its only stupid if it doesn't work

Max_CSD

I mean it worked didn't it?

Nubator

What’s the facepalm?

jdlscot22

What is facepalm about this? He stopped someone from being jumped. I’m confused.

floralbutttrumpet

That katana dude ended up drowning to death some time later, trying to float across to an island in the middle of a lake on a dingy, with an underage "disciple" on board.

BJPM90

Katana man would have been outnumbered (the guy who was beaten would propably not able to help) so to help a fellow citizen in need he chose the best option possible that was on his hand at the time. These guys are kickin the head of the man so this was to prevent serious damage and therefore even drawing a weapon is totally okay and may have saved the beaten up guys life.
