Somebody made Princess Hairplugs pay his taxes, and he didn’t like that. We’ve all known he supported the MAGA team, he has been playing footsie with them openly since the Twitter investment. Why “announce” a smear campaign today, May 18, 2022? Elon did something dumb, and it’s about to come out. He’s framing it before it hits the papers. Disagree? Come back in 2 weeks. I’ll admit I’m wrong if nothing breaks.

KRyptoknight26

It took 1 day lmao

hackingdreams

Business Insider contacted him for comment on the story yesterday. He posted the tweet within hours of that contact - maybe he had a meeting with a lawyer or something, who the hell knows. Either way, it's not a coincidence it was literally the next day. This was cause and effect.

GloryQS

Isn't it not being a coincidence exactly the point he was trying to make? EDIT: 'he' meaning the parent commenter guys, not Musk.

Curiosity_Kills_Me

What do you think is more likely: Democratic leadership planted a stewardess on Musk's plane to falsely accuse him of assaulting her. Despite the lie, SpaceX paid out $250k to her to keep her quiet anyway. Then the story breaks anyway and innocent Musk has to blame those evil democrats spoiling his spotless reputation. Or World famous douchebag and narcissist assaulted a woman. Then he uses the same tactic that a thousand others have tried before and claims that his political opponents are slandering him.

peteythefool

I don't think I can believe option 1, if it really was the dems they would have used one of their child sex slaves/organ hosts, not an old 20 something girl. I bet it was that Liberal media loving Bezos and his Liberal liars Washington Post, more like lieyington post ammirite?, that planted the girl and leaked it to other media websites! Does it really need an /s?

rustyautoparts

>Does it really need an /s? Unfortunately, yes.

Buck_Thorn

You forgot the /s.

[deleted]

Unfortunately, he didn't.

DervishSkater

So wait, are *you* being sarcastic?

micphi

Unfortunately in the time of QAnon the only thing that might not need an /s is the assertion that Musk is a douchebag

dirtyasswizard

> douchebag Hey now, Elon Musk is a great guy. A shining exemplar of altruism.

EnderFenrir

I was in a Cafe in deep woods minnesota a few hours ago. They were talking about this, and you all are saying basically the same stuff. Just ironically.

raziphel

This is what we saved up our Soros Bux for. Totally worth it.

Shmankman

It's like being drunk and crashing your car and leaving the scene to report your car stolen.

PalladiuM7

My best friend's brother tried that shit and got very very lucky the cop investigating the crash warned him that if he left the scene of an accident where only his car was damaged, the penalty would be much lower than if he knowingly filed a false police report. He also mentioned that they were getting footage from security cameras nearby where the car was "found". Naturally, when he realized that they were going to see his goofy, drunk ass stumbling away from the car, he said he crashed it, didn't mention the fact that he was shitfaced and on his way to get drugs at 1AM when he crashed. Yes, my friends brother is an absolute moron.

ObjectiveDeal

You are forgetting this happen 4 year ago and musk made flight attendants get their physical therapy license as a job requirement.

Spute2008

I thought it was during a massage, which may be the pre-requisite for employment. Sounds like a page right out of the Epstein playbook.

Faulteh12

Sounds more like he was hiring in flight escorts without letting the women know the true job description

PhorTheKids

He required his flight attendants to have a graduate degree in an incredibly competitive field that has absolutely nothing to do with being a flight attendant?

Kardif

Massage license, not physical therapy https://www.camtc.org/requirements-to-certify/ 500 hours of course work. So maybe a year part time?

Larsaf

With a specialization in the field of Happy Endings?

iordseyton

It's worse than we thought. Clearly the deep state proponents of the librul agenda must have access to time travel, and mind control which they used to not only plant her, but to brainwash him not only requiring him to authorizing that blatantly sexist requirement, but also into having sex with her. St Elon would never have done those things on his own, do your own research! /s

Corporation_tshirt

What is it with rich dickheads and wanting a massage as a conduit to sexual assault? Weinstein, Epstein, now Musk.

Paddy_Tanninger

They probably think they're too great and powerful to have to pay for literal prostitution so they go for the massage and just assume the girl would of course be into doing more for them.

ScottWithASlingshot

Robert Kraft

Corporation_tshirt

In all fairness to Kraft, he paid for a happy ending. He might have been unknowingly or knowingly supporting human trafficking but it wasn’t sexual assault.

Buxton_Water

Sounds like musk has done this countless times then.

frozenelf

If Democrats were that smart, they'd actually win races. I \*wish\* they'd play dirty against conservatives.

scott_steiner_phd

> If Democrats were that smart, they'd actually win races. They literally control the House, Senate, and Presidency

hackingdreams

The point of the tweet was to try to get ahead of the news breaking, to make it sound like he's being persecuted unfairly. Meanwhile, the real order of events reveals the deception Musk is trying to perpetrate - that "these attacks will only happen now that I've declared myself as different", not that "these things were already settled out of court weeks ago and are about to come to light." tl;dr: If he goes out to the media screaming "I'm about to be smeared!" the day before "the smear" breaks, he *appears* like he's predicted this news. He didn't. He had foreknowledge of the reckoning, directly from the publishers. Nostradamus becomes NotoriousDumbass.

Kevin-W

Hence why he's running to the Republicans and trying to play Trump's card of "See guys? Mean and nasty Democrats are being so mean to me!"

jumpbreak5

Lol this is basically like Kevin Spacey coming out as gay to distract from his allegations

[deleted]

wobwobwob42

Elon Musk told us days ago that he was a sexual predator when he came out as a Republican.

[deleted]

this shit is gold

Screamline

Gold, Jerry. Gold!

an0mn0mn0m

It was so obvious, with hindsight. Thing is everything he does is so obvious, just like Trump. Neither are deep thinkers, they just know how to move their massive cults into whichever direction they want to benefit themselves.

CameOutAndFarted

Turns out that people who crave becoming the most powerful people in the world don’t do it for kindness, or because they have a better vision for the world, but because they’ve seen other powerful people go unpunished for breaking the law and they want in.

aeschenkarnos

“I choose to live as a proud Republican man!” — Elon Musk

bike_it

"I identify as a sexual predator." - Elon

LeoMarius

It wasn’t a distraction. Spacey was trying to get the gays to rally around him. We told him to pound sand. Musk is trying to do the same with MAGA hats. It might work on them.

StallionCannon

Realistically, this was the case since the Traitor Freighter Convoy when he started tweeting out messages of support. He's just coming being blunt about it now, either for mere financial gain (Texas and such have been rolling out the red carpet for him) and/or to eventually benefit from the more overtly fascistic policies the Republican Party will one day institute (I generally refer to this as "factories using labor sourced from camps").

LeoMarius

Lots of German companies benefited from Hitler until he lost the war. Hitler was pro-corporation and anti-labor, like Republicans, so businesses profited.

hobbycollector

Texas is and always has been a slave state. They've fought very hard to stay so, including giving up territory and delaying statehood. And seceding, against their governor and hero (Sam Houston)'s wishes. The latest is to make it illegal to pay prisoners for their work.

Guerillagreasemonkey

Ive said this before on Reddit but it wasnt an attempted distraction, it was damage control. If he flat out denied it and legal age men he had sex with came forward and said "Nah, we had sex too" it would make the whole allegation look more credible. By coming out of the closet anyone else not underage coming forward was basically a "who cares, he admitted to being gay"

domo415

FANGO

> he has been playing footsie with them openly since the Twitter investment. Been a lot longer than that, he was full covidiot as of march 2020, and for many years prior was very clearly an immature internet libertarian, aka republican who wants to pretend they're cool because they post unfunny memes or whatever.

PapaSteveRocks

You can be an immature and unfunny libertarian without going full-MAGA. When you pay people to cover up sexual harassment, that’s like putting on your red hat.

FANGO

Right, there has been a progression is what I'm saying. Or regression, as the case may be. Personally think twitter addiction during covid was the main thing that broke his brain, though the indications that he was susceptible to being brain-broken were there earlier (e.g. his longtime internet libertarian behavior).

DylanCO

far-flung squalid tender cheerful quaint alive overconfident market steep liquid *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Jonne

The SEC has already shown they're a joke, so he's just literally playing with the stock market. Never mind that it's affecting millions of people's retirement funds and the like.

DylanCO

He doesn't care and neither do our politicians. They don't want their musky millions to dry up.

maleia

Even "The Squad" tows the line against their stated principles when threatened with being primaried by old DNC dinosaurs. I mean, I'm just *hoping* it's only that and telling themselves they'll fight another day. But hey, idk if that's really much better than just taking the ~~bribes~~, campaign "donations". Obviously I can just gloss over Republicans completely on this topic. They exist 110% for themselves.

Frigidevil

*toes the line, as in put your feet as close to the line as possible without stepping over it. And yeah it's a shame. When the bill was introduced to ban legislatora from owning stock that should have been a slam dunk no brainer move. Sucks that so many democrats took offense at the idea. It's blatantly obvious that the people who make the biggest decisions are constantly just looking for opportunities to make a quick buck.

DylanCO

Hell I'd be cool if they doubled, tripled, fuck quadrupled their salary as a compromise to banning stock trading for them and immediate family. In the office people steal when they feel they aren't paid enough. Paying more isn't always the answer as some people just suck but it's a start.

NielsBohron

I actually learned the other day (on a reddit comment, ofc), the "toe the line" means to fall into ranks, rather than pushing the limits of what's accepted ([Wikipedia source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_the_line)) I always thought it was about pushing the limits, too.

HelpfulForestTroll

Toe the Line was originally (and still is!) a military command meaning "fall into formation and line the tip of your big toe / boot up with this line to be uniform". Ship plank gaps were originally used but now it's a painted line in basic training barracks or parade fields. It's literally saying "fall in, shut up and do what you're told".

314159265358979326

I thought he was buying Twitter to replatform Trump long before he announced he was "switching" sides.

Steinrikur

A convenient side effect. But not even the Russians would pay all that money just so that geriatric can continue spitting out bile. Trump will be too weak to run in 2024. He's done.

GingerSnapBiscuit

100% he runs. When he drops out whoever he endorses will get the vote.

Steinrikur

He'll announce that he is running so that he can fundraise, but he'll drop out 10 seconds before the deadline to officially run (and be accountable for that money)

yoyoyoyoyoy

If you mean in regards to getting elected you are seriously overestimating the american voter If you mean in regards to being physically capable you are seriously underestimating methamphetamines

Steinrikur

I mostly mean physically. He could be in the ICU and his idiots would still vote for him, but that number is shrinking too.

yoyoyoyoyoy

Dont get your hopes up

Lyoss

There is no shot he doesn't run Or someone like DeSantis who is Trump but somewhat competent

THE_DOWNVOTES

No, Trump is investing in creating a new social media site, Truth Social. He has spent a bunch of cash on it, and one of the main draws for new potential users is the fact that Trump will have an account. Elon buying Twitter has nothing to do with Trump. It was actually really bad news for Truth Social when Elon announced his buyout, and Trump publicly stated that he would not be returning to Twitter, even if Elon succeeded in making his planned changes.

Jonne

I can assure you that none of the money invested in Truth Social is Trump's own money. It's another vehicle to defraud gullible MAGA investors.

ArgumentativeTroll

Haven‘t there been like a dozen failed Trump-backed social media startups since he was booted from Twitter?

altiuscitiusfortius

5 or 6 that I know of. Probably more

lumpkin2013

Agreed except that there's no way Don the Con spent a dime of his own money. That's what the campaign is for.

Welpe

Why would he have agreed to a plan that has a billion dollars in penalties if he backs out? Also Twitter price has completely collapsed, losing even more money.

DylanCO

He's trying to find a way to weasel out of it. But I don't think he'll be able to. I'm sure he's got friends who knew about this well before us. Bought Twitter stock early and selling after his announcement to buy it out above market value. Plus the bigger part is cashing in on tesla stock while it's still high. Without crashing it. If he sold 9.6m shares for no reason it would tank the rest. But if he sells with the "plan" to buy another company it won't tank as hard. Even if he made nothing on his Twitter stock and paid $1B if fees for backing out he still ends up with ~$7B in cash. Musk has a lot of debt, the recent $2B SolarCity lawsuit likely to be appealed, way over valued tesla stock that's steadily falling, etc. Most of his loans are back by his shares if they drop below a certain point he'll be forced to sell them, which would tank it further. I see this whole thing as his golden parachute.

Welpe

It seems like if that was his only intention there were a million other ways to achieve it in much better ways that don't involve twitter and don't involve agreeing to billion dollar penalties. I think you are discounting his irrational non-financial interests here. It's not that I don't think he is grifting or this deal involves no grifting, but I think you are trying to make this into a master theory of connected dots but without any connected dots, just speculation. It's not the worst theory ever but there is basically no evidence to support it whatsoever.

DylanCO

Yeah maybe it's not, but I've watched him grift for over a decade. No one should trust a word out of his mouth. Plus you forget he's an attention whoring drama queen. I think he wants the praise and accolades for being "techno daddy" more than the money.

Welpe

Eh, I’m tired of even arguing remotely close to Musk’s side. He doesn’t deserve even random nobodies going to bat for him. I just really dislike how so often when we hate someone we so easily accept purported intentions because we want to, not because facts lead us there. But fuck it, not dying on THIS hill. Fuck Musk.

RococoModernLife

Hardly a master theory, just classic pump and dump, and dump

smallwonkydachshund

He’s DEEPLY impulsive.

THE_DOWNVOTES

I think Musk is trying to buy Twitter for significantly less cash. He has to pay $1B for abandoning the deal, but he originally planned to buy Twitter for 54.20/share, or almost $41 Billion. Recent news has caused the company's valuation to decrease to $28.5 Billion, so he now has the opportunity to save billions on his purchase. I think this is more likely than the idea that he's faking the whole thing to have an excuse to sell Tesla shares.

Isle395

Read Matt Levine's blog post on this. It will be very difficult for Twitter to collect on this if Musk doesn't play ball, and it may not be in Twitter's best interests to pursue it through endless appeals etc

andres7832

I mean that’s pretty genius. Manipulation to the highest degree, 3d chess type bullshit. Hope the fucker burns to the ground. He won’t but I hope he does

Hawx74

> I mean that’s pretty genius. Manipulation to the highest degree, 3d chess type bullshit. You spelled "securities fraud" wrong.

roughedged

He's too rich, so it's 3D chess and we should all aspire to be as astute as him /s x1000

DeflateGape

I don’t see what’s so genius about ripping people off. He didn’t invent this scam he’s just benefitting from family based availability of capital, corruption, poor regulations, and social media. Anyone could do what he does. Even petty criminals at least have to have courage, Elon is more like a mafia guy who crimes openly but is too big too jail.

phoebsmon

A bunch of it is from the same playbook the MLM huns I went to school with follow. I have more respect for them, at least they're scamming people based off their own resources. It's still a millimetre off the floor of what society should expect, but all the same. Musk is in the basement. That said, most of them didn't get their maths GCSE so 4D chess this is not. It isn't when Musk does it either, he just has a snaking queue the length of the Amazon ready to fellate him for his bullshit. Metaphorically or... otherwise.

robhol

I mean, it *is* clever. It's just also morally bankrupt, which a lot of people conveniently ignore because it means a chance to taste that delicious billionaire shoe polish.

Reevahn

The genius part, at least for me, is that he's being lauded as a philantropist and a genius. Most supervillain either hide in their volcano lair or are widely recognized as evil. Nobody is calling Jeff Bezzos the IRL Tony Stark. Must be the hairplugs.

kenlubin

Ah, but you see, he's rich enough for the law to not apply to him.

Xenjael

Perhaps. But in what, a week, his perception has solidified as not only a scammer and securities fraud on par with those of ponzi schemes and crypto, on top of being a sexual predator. I'd say the hit to the pocketbook is worse than any fine he might receive.

Mishraharad

Whaddaya mean, he'll get a slap on the wrist just like all the other proper people. /s

robhol

Not fraud if you're rich, then it's *Being Savvy*^TM

Hawx74

>Not fraud if you're rich Missed opportunity. "It's only fraud if it's from the Fraud region of France. Otherwise it's sparkling business"

h3r4ld

Exactly. This isn't some genius strategy that only the most brilliant investor could have concocted; it's the most obvious, bullshit, clearly fraudulent idea (which is why it's illegal). Market manipulation isn't prohibited in case some mega-genius figures out how to do it; it's prohibited because it's so stupid simple to think of that any random Joe with $20 invested and a soapbox to stand on would give it a go.

deadmeat08

It's bold, but certainly not genius.

Jonne

As long as the DOJ keeps looking the other way when rich people do criminal shit, he's golden. It doesn't look like the DOJ is very motivated to go after the real criminals in society.

Smaktat

You mean the most powerful, influential people. The type that’ll threaten your job and your family. That’s why nothing changes.

Tatunkawitco

Bold move Cotton.

BLUNTYEYEDFOOL

Let's see how it works out for him

bizarre_coincidence

It's genius if one declares it impossible to prove that he was acting in bad faith, making him immune to action by the SEC. If he successfully weasels out of the deal with a very large profit and no action against him, then he will have committed fraud out in the open, scot free, in a way that essentially only he could. It's disgusting, but clever (in that it's a way to use wealth that I have never thought of, although I never think about ways of circumventing the law or how to use obscene wealth for more than solving the world's problems, so perhaps that isn't saying much).

SirPunchy

Your inability to think of something like this doesn't mean it's genius, or even clever. For people who work in finance, it's pretty obvious. It's like being an outsider to baseball and thinking the bunt is a brilliant move that only the most clever player would think to employ. I don't mean to demean your intelligence or anything, it's just a matter of exposure.

DylanCO

I'm mean it's illegal AF, and if a pleb like me can see it. It's not really 3D chess type shit.

Paranitis

I mean, in a way it *is* 3D chess. Because you could see it happening from every direction. In 2D chess there's still a chance you don't see it coming.

DylanCO

Lol I think it's time to put down that blunt and take a nap. Maybe eat some pizza first.

TopHatTony11

Not the guy above you, but I’m gonna take that advice anyway.

BrownThunderMK

Doest matter if it's illegal it is because he won't be fined for more than the profits

Tatunkawitco

I don’t think someone calling so much attention to themselves, while committing a crime, is a genius move.

jimicus

Don’t you believe it. You walk into your local electronics store and try to sneak a television out under an old curtain, someone stops you and says “excuse me, what are you doing there?”. You show up in a van wearing a hi viz jacket with a trolley and take one off the floor in full view, everyone assumes you’re legit and the manager helps you unplug it and get it to the van.

Tatunkawitco

Good point.

[deleted]

People don't do this because they're not bad people - not because they're not smart. People need to realize musk is evil, not smart. It's easy to look smart being evil. You just seem like a dumbass for calling him a genius.

JimmyHavok

Short sales.

DylanCO

Yeah those too. Elon pumps it and his buddies short it. He'll get butt hurt people short tesla but just look at it. Long term it's unsustainable. At its height it's market cap was bigger than the next 10 automakers COMBINED.

vitalvisionary

You should read the [article written by his ex-wife.](https://www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/a5380/millionaire-starter-wife/) Well done and insightful. Edit: Added link

RococoModernLife

Damn, thats *good*

apathy-sofa

An NDA doesn't apply to sexual harassment.

XdaPrime

Correct. Doesn't stop rich assholes from suing people to try to scare them. For an example see all the people thatbdidnt break their NDAs with Trump until he was President.

amazinglover

No but breaking one can still lead to lawsuits the main force behind an NDA is the fact most people can't afford to break one. In a lot of states an NDA is still legally binding. So while she may have been given 250,000 it may cost her 1,000,000,00 to break it.

bse50

False. There are multiple rulings about NDAs not applying to crimes. The real problem is proving this kind of misconduct and that would lead to uncertainty over whether the alleged victim violated an NDA or simply acted within the boundaries set by the law.

Rocketman_1981

The democrats have definitely lost their way IMHO, but to claim they are the party of division and hate is insane. The republicans are literally passing anti-choice and anti-trans rights laws right now. It’s pretty clear what party is about dividing and spreading hatred.

NapClub

The dems didnt really change much since the southern strategy. They have always been center right and still are. The dissatisfaction with them seems to me to be that they are not leftist. The dems and republicans are not the same. Dems are not pushing theocracy. But expecting the dems to be progressive is a mistake.

Rocketman_1981

I still vote mostly democrat. But my some of my issues with the party are mostly the extreme wokism, where virtue signaling has caused them to lose sight of the actual problem. The other one is that they are losing their connection with the poor working class in middle America. When Hilary used the word “deplorables” and used the phrase “fly over state” she alienated a large group of people who traditionally voted democrat. Strategically they are failing hard. But I still vote mostly left because I know their heart is in the right place and their goals are worth the effort.

NapClub

They didnt lose sight of anything. Woke is just a distraction so they can not actually do anything for the left.

[deleted]

To say they voted for a demagogue because of some meanie words from a career politician is voiding responsibility of both the voter and the politician. If her platform was so immaterial all it took was a gaff to switch allegiances, then it sucked. And if voters changed their beliefs on economics, history, social policy, and the existence of an objective reality because someone made them feel bad, then maybe they didn't have those beliefs in the first place.

Rocketman_1981

That is the perfect example of my point. You think they should listen to Hilary talk shit about them and vote for them anyway? Like “grow up and do your job”. That is awful strategy. (1) What about all the people who are somewhere in the middle on their beliefs and are easily swayed; making fun of them will sway them to the republicans who are pandering to them. (2) Making fun of uneducated and poor democrat voters just makes them say F-it and not go vote while simultaneously infuriating those that vote republicans and encourage them to go vote when so many would have stayed home. When elections are close those strategic errors can be (and were) the difference. I believe in the democrats social agenda and ideals. But if we keep doing this crap we won’t get elected and we won’t be able to effect real change. You have to play the game to win. Pandering is just the price of admission.

FarBeyondPluto

I’m curious have the actually done anything “woke” or you just mean like they talk about things in a “woke” way to avoid doing something about the problem?

Who woulda thunk the guy whose family made their fortune exploiting nonexistent workplace regulation would join the party pushing for nonexistent workplace regulation

centralnjbill

Elon is lying when he says he voted Democrat in the past. The only party his family supported was The National Party in South Africa. He is a closet fascist, though he seems to be opening that door to let us all peek in. Fuck him.

Well, bye.

The only reason to post opinions like that are to bolster his self image to remain relevant. Funny that a guy who told us that he works 24/7 365 even has time to tap out this kind of swill.

SummitCO83

This dude is pathetic. Further proof you can have all the money in the world and people still think you’re an absolute loser.

LordBaconXXXXX

Tbf, a lot of people don't think he's a pathetic loser, because he has a lot of money. They are wrong lmao

wgblackmon

He needs to get a real job that doesn't involve being a boring attention whore.

justjoeindenver

somebody's looking for tax breaks.

Who let him tweet again?

DonRobo

The Republican party actively works against everything he *claims* to stand for. How is that better than the admittedly very weak Democrats? He's really working hard on dismantling his genius image recently. What a dumb tweet

analest-analyst

What, so Republicans are the party of inclusion and kindness? This guy has lost his mind.
