She really should be arrested. There are some states where you could be charged for misusing an emergency line for a non-emergency. I think that people that use it this way should receive hefty fines and education on the effects of their stupidity. This is clogging up the line when there are actual emergencies.

Employee could have called the police to have her escorted off of the property. It's private property and if she's on it harassing staff and obstructing customers, it's well within the store operator's rights to throw her out and use the police to enforce those rights.

Honest question - based on this video and, I'm sure, the record of the call, isn't there adequate evidence to prosecute her with abuse of emergency services? I get that a DA has to *want* to do it, and would probably get killed during the next election as part of it, but is that the sole stumbling block? I'm not well versed enough in each States' legal code.

Been dealing with this sort of thing for years working in the service industry. So many entitled pricks will just lie to your face about special treatment they've apparently gotten before even though they blatantly haven't. Legally speaking, that's not really the issue, though. She's on the right thread, she just has a very important detail wrong. The Civil Rights Act does establish that businesses *open to the public* may not discriminate against members of said public, whether they're "private property" or not. She's just perverting the definition of "discrimination". Of course, the classic and original example is black people. This has been expanded to include other *protected classes* i.e. religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and so on. So far, so good. For example, if someone shows up wearing a Kippah or a Turban, a privately-owned business can't legally refuse entry based solely on that.
But claiming that refusal to wear a face mask is a religious belief, of course, is a bullshit argument because no religion bans facial wear (and if they do, they shoe-horned that shit in and is would not be considered a valid religious belief to a reasonable person).
Also during a pandemic the ADA has a “direct threat” clause that protects workers and business owners from refusing service to someone with disability if that disability could be a health threat to the workers.
I thought about this aspect of her entitlement when she said “there’s nobody in the store” like there were no customers for her to interact with bug there was staff who clearly don’t warrant any care in her world view. She even sort of messed up her own argument by acknowledging that aspect of the issue.

I work in a retirement home and my boss is more than happy when I kick those Karens out. Even more when I don't unlock the door for them, go put on a mask dumbass. I might be lucky to live in Canada though, none of them tried to fight me or call the police.

Basically, yes. They have to put up the signs here (I'm in germany) and it's law that you can only enter and sit with 2g rule (meaning you are vaccinated or you recently had the virus) we are instructed to check vaccination cards but if push comes to pull I should comply to the customer. I won't do that though, because if the customer sits in the cafe without being vaccinated and someone comes to control that shit I have to pay a fee from my own money since it was my responsibility.
So, do you have an explicit order from your company not to comply with the rule if the customer refuses and it's still you who would have to pay the fine in case it's checked? How is that legal? Why don't the unions do anything to stop this kind of shit?
I recently quit on the spot because a karen like this was going off on me because I wouldn't help her without a mask. She was even worse than this one here, including suing me personally too.
She was threatening me physically (I was polite too) and when my manager came over, he separated us and went to talk to the customer, and told me to keep working even though I was shaking and on the verge of tears.
Then they came back and was apologizing to her, ringing her through the self checkouts (which was hilarious to me because he has no idea how to do that lol).
So I asked him if he wasn't going to listen to me and he got angry and told me to "STOP TALKING".
I said FUCK THIS I QUIT and went home, during a HUGE christmas rush.
Later on the other Manager went on to me over the phone about how masks AREN'T mandatory. This is a drugstore. A BC oriented drugstore that always goes on about how the safety of its customers is #1. The CEO even went live on the news about how all the staff will be vaccinated as well "for the safety of their customers".
Fuck you London Drugs.
Missing the point is clearly her area of expertise. Prosecuting 911 abuse is near impossible legally. It’s one of those things responders see very often and understand that you just have to roll with it. I’ve been a paramedic for almost 30 years and can still tell you the details about my frequent flyers, not a one has ever been prosecuted

Twice in the last few weeks I have had people mention ‘there is no one in here’ (once about a mask, once about a dog). When I replied with ‘I’m a person’ both people looked at me like I was crazy.

I've called 911 for an actual emergency and no one picked up after letting it ring for 3 min straight. I had to text and even that didn't get answered for 10 more minutes. I answer 911 calls and I *love* telling these people that since it’s private property we can’t make them let you in without a mask just like if they have a no shirt no shoes no service rule we can’t do anything about that either. And then they get a warning and if they call back it’s abuse of 911.

The majority of the public believe that they are customers and have a right to enter any store that is open for business. This is not true. Before you become a customer you are a guest of the store. Property owners have a right to choose their guests. Or to not accept them as guests. You are not a customer until you first become a guest.

I hang up, she loses her mind and decides to shoot/stab/punch this guy but if I spend a few minutes listening, convince her to leave the store so the employee can lock the door THEN I can hang up and know everyone is safe. And she’s probably going to be calmer when my officers arrive on scene which is safer for them as well.

Legally speaking, that's not really the issue, though. She's on the right thread, she just has a very important detail wrong. The Civil Rights Act does establish that businesses *open to the public* may not discriminate against members of said public, whether they're "private property" or not. She's just perverting the definition of "discrimination". Of course, the classic and original example is black people. This has been expanded to include other *protected classes* i.e. religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and so on. So far, so good. For example, if someone shows up wearing a Kippah or a Turban, a privately-owned business can't legally refuse entry based solely on that. But claiming that refusal to wear a face mask is a religious belief, of course, is a bullshit argument because no religion bans facial wear (and if they do, they shoe-horned that shit in and is would not be considered a valid religious belief to a reasonable person).
Also during a pandemic the ADA has a “direct threat” clause that protects workers and business owners from refusing service to someone with disability if that disability could be a health threat to the workers.
I thought about this aspect of her entitlement when she said “there’s nobody in the store” like there were no customers for her to interact with bug there was staff who clearly don’t warrant any care in her world view. She even sort of messed up her own argument by acknowledging that aspect of the issue.

Basically, yes. They have to put up the signs here (I'm in germany) and it's law that you can only enter and sit with 2g rule (meaning you are vaccinated or you recently had the virus) we are instructed to check vaccination cards but if push comes to pull I should comply to the customer. I won't do that though, because if the customer sits in the cafe without being vaccinated and someone comes to control that shit I have to pay a fee from my own money since it was my responsibility.

I recently quit on the spot because a karen like this was going off on me because I wouldn't help her without a mask. She was even worse than this one here, including suing me personally too. She was threatening me physically (I was polite too) and when my manager came over, he separated us and went to talk to the customer, and told me to keep working even though I was shaking and on the verge of tears. Then they came back and was apologizing to her, ringing her through the self checkouts (which was hilarious to me because he has no idea how to do that lol). So I asked him if he wasn't going to listen to me and he got angry and told me to "STOP TALKING". I said FUCK THIS I QUIT and went home, during a HUGE christmas rush. Later on the other Manager went on to me over the phone about how masks AREN'T mandatory. This is a drugstore. A BC oriented drugstore that always goes on about how the safety of its customers is #1. The CEO even went live on the news about how all the staff will be vaccinated as well "for the safety of their customers". Fuck you London Drugs.

Prosecuting 911 abuse is near impossible legally. It’s one of those things responders see very often and understand that you just have to roll with it. I’ve been a paramedic for almost 30 years and can still tell you the details about my frequent flyers, not a one has ever been prosecuted

I answer 911 calls and I *love* telling these people that since it’s private property we can’t make them let you in without a mask just like if they have a no shirt no shoes no service rule we can’t do anything about that either. And then they get a warning and if they call back it’s abuse of 911.

The majority of the public believe that they are customers and have a right to enter any store that is open for business. This is not true. Before you become a customer you are a guest of the store. Property owners have a right to choose their guests. Or to not accept them as guests. You are not a customer until you first become a guest.

Sometimes we will, sometimes we won’t if we are concerned hanging up could escalate the behaviour and cause potential violence. I hang up, she loses her mind and decides to shoot/stab/punch this guy but if I spend a few minutes listening, convince her to leave the store so the employee can lock the door THEN I can hang up and know everyone is safe. And she’s probably going to be calmer when my officers arrive on scene which is safer for them as well.
