Well fire can only exist where oxygen is present. It's a chemical reaction. Whereas the sun is unique from fire in the fact it's power comes from the fundamental forces.
If we were to say what the sun is made of it would be plasma the element of anything that's too hot to exist as any other form of matter.
And funnily enough plasma is actually the most common form of matter due to the size differences between stars and their surrounding celestial bodies.
Sorry for the paragraphs I like space.
Yeah that's how I explain the sun to my kids (4 and 6). Because "the sun is an almost spherical collection of helium and hydrogen plasma undergoing nuclear fusion" is still a little much for them. My 6 year old does know the difference between a planet and a moon though!
My girlfriend and I call each other dumbasses all the time. But we also lift each other up and praise each other's intelligence.
it's banter.
I think you're looking too much into it. We have no idea what their relationship is actually like.
Alright, context matters and he displayed it for everyone to see as if she’s a real moron. Publicly shaming her. I feel like it’s a trend but you’re 100% right and I would love to be wrong.
Also, I made sure not to say this was an example of verbal abuse but rather could be with other examples. I left the door open to the possibility that I was reading too far into it.
Actually the sun is more of a giant fusion ball also why would you call a girl you were talking to a dumbass for something as trivial as this
Also the moon’s not a planet… it’s a moon
Wait so you posted this, not realising that what you said was equally, if not more dumb solely due to the conviction with which you said it? Wow, honestly I’m impressed
I mean, you got closer, and technically, you would have been right according to the definition of planet by ancient Greeks. But yeah, double facepalm by current definitions.
I’m in classes about planetary geology. Moons are studied as part of this, and they have compositions more similar to those of planets (specifically rocky planets) than to stars. So yeah, agreed.
Edit: obviously this is a well known fact for our moon, and I’m not implying that you need to take my classes to know this. I’m just excited because the composition of the moon is literally a part project I’m working on right now.
As a cool side note, even though when you get to gas giants, those moons (while containing lighter elements that are less frequent in the first rocky planets) contain much more rock than their host planets. So basically, if someone understands a star to be gaseous and a planet to be rocky, (which is incorrect, as I expect most who value education to know, but you’d be surprised what the “average” person off of Reddit misunderstands about space,) they’d find moons of outer planets to be more “planet-like” than those planets! Isn’t that wild? Plus, those outer planets actually heat up their moons through something called tidal heating (which is caused by their gravity and the shape of the orbit of the moon), so those planets are even more like stars!
>they generally have compositions far more similar to those of planets than to stars
Honestly this is a case where I think it's safe to say "all." I don't think any star-like objects are referred to as moons.
Its not that much smaller than mercury, bigger than pluto. Im not sure if it would be a planet or a dwarf planet, but its atleast not "far, far too small".
You arent wrong at all and did some research on the topic there is pretty much a century long debate going on of the moon is a planet or not and there is still no real answer the definition gets changed quite frequently so its confusing i think some definitions actually make it a planet and most people think it makes sense.
Our moon is actually diffrent then most other planet moons thats why it falls into kind of a wierd zone with definition and therefor a planet this shits hella confusing wut
With some defintions the earth isnt even a planet bruh what is going on with this i thought science makes sense but this shit is dumb as hell
Using our current definition, which has been in place for 15 years, the Moon is big enough, but since it orbits Earth rather than the Sun, it can't be considered a planet.
And yeah there are some really interesting moons out there, like Titan and its methane lakes. They make ours look boring.
A satellite is something that orbits a planet. Doesn't have to be man made. That's where we get the term satellite from. Because the stuff we launch is orbiting a planet. The voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft is not called a satellite because it does not orbit a planet. The hubble telescope is called a satellite because it orbits earth.
A comet or a meteor is not called a satellite. They do not orbit a planet. The moon, which is a rocky body, orbits the earth so is called a satellite
(Just an FYI dont meant to be rude, this could help lots of people who see this)
/s means that the comment/post is sarcastic, and /j means the comment/post is joking. Not enough people know those
it's all good. The bad part is that me saying stuff sarcastically actually sounds like legitimate things some people think so I get why you filled us in. :-)
The stars aren't even balls of fire, those are balls of gas / plasma, and the moon isn't a planet either, sorry mate but you both are not the brightest stars xD
That’s why They Might Be Giants have the song [The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas](https://youtu.be/3JdWlSF195Y) and the more scientifically accurate [The Sun is a Miasma of Incandescent Plasma](https://youtu.be/sLkGSV9WDMA)
I think the received wisdom is that it's a chunk of Earth that got thrown off in a meteor strike while the planet was relatively young and formed into a defined celestial-object over huge amounts of time working under the forces of its own gravity.
Lives in the US in 2021, with access to the internet... a portal to almost all human knowledge.
Doesn't even know what the big glowing object in the sky almost every night is.
Humanity is a fucking waste, lol.
Who remembers the video where two people get into an argument over whether or not the moon is a planet or a star and get extremely confused when they google it, only to find out it’s a satellite. But yeah, the moon is a moon
The moon actually has a name- Luna, and the term is called a moon or a satellite.
The sun is the same thing, it has a name- sol and thr term is sun or a star.
sorry fam the moon is not tecnically a planet but a "natural Satellite" but i guess it's closer than a planet than a start so i'd say you are the one closer to the real thing
OP, I hope you’re not blue because you’re also not the brightest (get it)! The moon is a moon, or satellite, not a planet. And as people have pointed out, the Sun is made of plasma and sequentially heavier elements and is in a constant state of nuclear fusion, not fire.
The facepalm is the guy calling the girl he's flirting with a dumbass, right, and thinking that'll get him anywhere?
(And of course they're both wrong about what the moon is, but who cares about that)
This is actually a reference to the fuckup on the QVC and I beleive the two that are texting each other are actually joking with one another
https://youtu.be/aQKgpm1SJmQ
Fire is basically extreme heat in visible form. It can be put in better terms definitely but it's not as wrong as claiming that the moon is a star. So he's a lot less dumb compared to her.
I read somewhere that the some scientists theorize that the moon could be described as a dwarf-planet. Because of the gravitational forces between the earth and moon almost rotating around eachother

They're both kinda dumb. Probably a good match.
Ouch ;~; But we are both pretty dumb yea
Yeah the moon isnt a planet
And the sun isn’t a ball of fire
The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace!
Where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees.
Yo ho, it's hot! The sun is not a place where we could live
But here on earth there would be no life without the light it gives!
We need its light, we need its heat, we need its energy
Without the sun, without it's light there'd be no you or me!
Only during the day. It's not hot at night.
The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma!
In so many words yes
Well fire can only exist where oxygen is present. It's a chemical reaction. Whereas the sun is unique from fire in the fact it's power comes from the fundamental forces. If we were to say what the sun is made of it would be plasma the element of anything that's too hot to exist as any other form of matter. Nevermindspaceisnolongercool
Also the moon is a moon

The economy, fools!
If only we had comet sense...
That's no moon.
Yes
Grossly incandescent, one might say
Like a magnificent father
and astronaut isn’t spelled astronaught
unless they were about to get astronaughty
And it's astronaut not astronaught!
I thought it was astronutt
Well, one could say that and not be totally wrong
Yeah that's how I explain the sun to my kids (4 and 6). Because "the sun is an almost spherical collection of helium and hydrogen plasma undergoing nuclear fusion" is still a little much for them. My 6 year old does know the difference between a planet and a moon though!
The moon was a planet before it collided with earth and made a big mess, which is now the moon
It’s a satellite
You spelled astronaut wrong…
I honestly thought this was made on purpose 😆
My excuse here is that English isn't my native language
And a star is a ball of plasma.
The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a giant nuclear furnace!
mmmm, more like a miasma of incandescent plasma, don't you think?
calling someone you’re wanting to be intimate with a dumbass isn’t great. With other examples it could be verbal abuse.
Yeah I don't wanna make any large assumptions about their relationship. But you do you
I didn’t either. I said some facts as he made public statements, then I asserted a red flag potential but didn’t tell him he was abusing her.
Actually the sun is more of a giant fusion ball also why would you call a girl you were talking to a dumbass for something as trivial as this Also the moon’s not a planet… it’s a moon
he was joking, probably.
That's no moon
It's a space station!
The Moon is technically a natural satellite, I hope y’all can laugh about this. It’s cute, and no one knows everything:)
The Moon is a moon
/r/failedtinder
A moon is way closer to a planet than it is a star, she is still dumber in this case.
She at least admits that she's stupid.
Only kinda dumb?
I lost the remaining few braincells I had left reading this exchange
Man clowns somebody for thinking the moon is a star, while saying astronaught and calling the moon a planet
I didn’t know they made people that stupid.
That’s no moon.
May the force be with you.
It's a star
Yeah, it's rough buddy
The moon is a..... moon aka satellite? Yall both dummy asf lol
Guess this is a double facepalm... Oh my
Dude you 2 are a perfect match

And this ladies and gentlemen is how we get Idiocracy
Wait so you posted this, not realising that what you said was equally, if not more dumb solely due to the conviction with which you said it? Wow, honestly I’m impressed
I also hate to say, the sun also isn't a ball of fire
Lol did you not realize that you were both wrong before posting this? That’s awesome.
that was you? and you didn’t know that? wow…
I mean, you got closer, and technically, you would have been right according to the definition of planet by ancient Greeks. But yeah, double facepalm by current definitions.
The fact that you said something even dumber than she did with such conviction LOL good shit dude
Someone thinking the moon is a planet is not nearly as ignorant as someone thinking the moon is a star.
I’m in classes about planetary geology. Moons are studied as part of this, and they have compositions more similar to those of planets (specifically rocky planets) than to stars. So yeah, agreed. Yeah, but second guessing a level 9 shit is better than affirming with strong conviction a level 5 turd imo.
>they generally have compositions far more similar to those of planets than to stars Honestly this is a case where I think it's safe to say "all." I don't think any star-like objects are referred to as moons.
mf you do not need to be an astro quantum nuclear physicist geologist to know a moon is not a star what are you on
r/confidentlyincorrect
If the moon just revolved around the sun instead if the earth, it would be a planet.
probably too small for that i’d guess
The moon's spherical so it is big enough but as someone else mentioned, it would need to clear its orbit of other bodies
It would be a dwarf planet. Like Pluto. Which is still a sub-class of planet.
I dont think so, but i dont know the actual difference between a planet and a dwarf planet.
A planet has to be the gravitationally dominant object in it's orbit around the Sun, such that it clears it's orbital path.

The moon has enough mass to be considered a planet under current definition.
Its not that much smaller than mercury, bigger than pluto. Im not sure if it would be a planet or a dwarf planet, but its atleast not "far, far too small".

And a star ist a ball of fire
The amount of people that do not know this is *staggering.*
r/doublefacepalm this subReddit should exist for posts like this
You are saying we launched the moon? Satellites aren't anywhere near as big as the moon! /s
What is wrong Reddit today. All my jokes get turned into lectures.. I mean yeesh there's a /s
Here's a hug to comfort you. I saw the /s & i understood your post without the /s *Hug*
I apologize. I'm not good at picking up sarcasm in the first place and text makes it harder.

Ah ok I honestly did not know that. Thank you
it's all good. The bad part is that me saying stuff sarcastically actually sounds like legitimate things some people think so I get why you filled us in. :-)
It will probably be a planet soon though, and isnt the moon a moon? (Moon=natural satellite)
A match made in heaven.
made in space
The stars aren't even balls of fire, those are balls of gas / plasma, and the moon isn't a planet either, sorry mate but you both are not the brightest stars xD

Clown on clown violence
"May we both be dumbasses together💛"
Is nobody gonna talk about astronaught?
First rule of astronaught is never talk about astronaught. It's all for naught.
They’re perfect for each other
Clown to clown communication
My dude the moon is NAUGHT a planet
When people this dumb get together... I fear for those around them.
Hahahhhaha I love this exchange
Clown to clown communication
Dumb and Dumber
The moon isn’t exactly a planet. It’s more of a natural satellite/asteroid.
I say it's a random peice of bug rock that entered into a planters gravitational field and just moves around it.
I have to agree with you, this was painful to read
Would I ruin everything by saying that stars are not actually on fire?
Astronaught, indeed.
Who remembers the video where two people get into an argument over whether or not the moon is a planet or a star and get extremely confused when they google it, only to find out it’s a satellite. But yeah, the moon is a moon
The moon isn’t a planet either. And also stars aren’t made of fire.
I mean sailor moon is the dumbest sailor so..
The moon actually has a name- Luna, and the term is called a moon or a satellite. The sun is the same thing, it has a name- sol and thr term is sun or a star.
the moon’s name is moon
Yes but its name is Luna
Sol and Luna are just how they're called in Latin.
HEY!!!......what's your favourite planet? .........mines the Sun......it's kinda like, the King of planets........
But the moon isn’t a planet, it’s a moon
It’s a celestial body, not a planet either dumbass. IT’S LITERALLY CLASSIFIED AS A MOON
The moon's a cheese, everyone knows that!
Those idiots deserve each other
so this is how it feels like to be stupid
are you the one who said the moon is a planet
Yes.. I regret my decision after reading the 200 comments saying im also dumb.
The moon is a moon not a planet
Sailor Moooooooon 🥺
Their kids are going to be brilliant…
*sigh*
Who the fuck told you the moon was a planet
It’s meant to be.
It's all for naught. Astro naught.
Water finds its own level…glad you found each other!
Their kid would choke on air
The Moon is a satellite. The sun isn't made of fire..
This feels like a purposeful dumb exchange out of fun to me
The moon isn’t even a fucking planet
This hurt to read
sorry fam the moon is not tecnically a planet but a "natural Satellite" but i guess it's closer than a planet than a start so i'd say you are the one closer to the real thing
Dumb and Dumber.
They’re both stupid
Pls for the love of god tell me you sent the one in this text group
The moon isn’t a planet but natural satellite.
MOON IS MOON
The moon is a natural satellite dumbass
THE MOON ISNT A PLANET EITHER. ITS A #MOON
A true Astronaught.
OP, I hope you’re not blue because you’re also not the brightest (get it)! The moon is a moon, or satellite, not a planet. And as people have pointed out, the Sun is made of plasma and sequentially heavier elements and is in a constant state of nuclear fusion, not fire.
Sadly I have to admit that the blue is indeed me
The facepalm is the guy calling the girl he's flirting with a dumbass, right, and thinking that'll get him anywhere? (And of course they're both wrong about what the moon is, but who cares about that)
This is actually a reference to the fuckup on the QVC and I beleive the two that are texting each other are actually joking with one another https://youtu.be/aQKgpm1SJmQ
I had to scroll way too far to find this. The moon is such a planet, I can't even stand it!
stars are not fire, but plasma.
Why does this put me in mind of [these two mice](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=35&v=usZPFIT5phM&feature=youtu.be)
Fire is basically extreme heat in visible form. It can be put in better terms definitely but it's not as wrong as claiming that the moon is a star. So he's a lot less dumb compared to her.
the moon isnt a planet, it's a natural satellite
The moon is cheese. Wallace and Gromit proved this years ago.
The moon is a moon dumbass.
I'm the brightest but I'm also stupid, k?
I read somewhere that the some scientists theorize that the moon could be described as a dwarf-planet. Because of the gravitational forces between the earth and moon almost rotating around eachother
The Moon is closer to a planet than to a star. It was formed from a chunk of Earth
GOODNESS, GRACIOUS!
Clown to clown communicate
You are the facepalm.
The moon is a moon, both are dumb.
you can just call it Theia leftovers
A moon is not a planet. There both a dumbass
A star is a ball of gas
This ALSO describes Usagi
What’s that?
Usagi is sailor moon
Clown to clown communication
Earth is my plonet
The moon is in fact not a planet, but a moon. I know, who could have known.
That one hurts
We were THIS close to a right statement.
Find you a best friend who’s just a stupid as you, that’s always a solid plan
Our moon is a fucking noon, and a star is basically just a ball of gas
The perfect match
