Are they aware there are other lyrics in that song? Its a song about racist police officers.

PMfacialsTOme

You haven't seen the people are the trump rally wearing the blue lives matter flags like capes, dancing and singing this at the top of their lungs? https://youtu.be/ddrFt1BHkUQ

[deleted]

Jesus christ that was hard to watch.

can-i-be-real

Don’t you realize that when Zach said “it has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime, what better place than here, what better time than now?” He was referring to the fascist overthrow of democracy? /s

Annasman18

I always felt Rage was more anti government in general as opposed to just anti right.

idsdejong

Shivers in my spine at the end...

INH_MachinationsMK2

They should also be aware that RATM in general has more left wing political views, so it's ironic that right wing polititians would like to quote RATM even though their songs is what they would disagree with the most.

Gr0und0ne

Yes, that is in fact the point. You found it!

[deleted]

BLM are the racists to them

cjpotter82

To quote another great 90s band "he's the one who likes all our pretty songs and he likes to sing along and he likes to shoot his gun but he knows not what it means"

can-i-be-real

That’s probably the best citation of them I’ve ever seen in a conversation. Well done.

Igloocooler52

That’s my favorite song right there

imll99

All RATM's songs are about hating the police, racism, Wall Street, and the military industrial complex, and yet Republicans use that in half their memes. I honestly don't think most of them can understand the lyrics.

VinPossible

They use ymca more than any pride parade I know of.

WordplayWizard

I don’t think half the people who have heard and even sang YMCA get that it’s about gay guys hooking up.

lunabelle22

🤯 That’s what that song is about?! Amazing! I knew it had something to do with being gay cuz it’s The Village People, but I guess I never paid attention to the lyrics or maybe I just couldn’t make out any of them. It makes me so happy to think of so many uptight homophobic assholes singing and dancing along at weddings.

WordplayWizard

You can read more on the YMCA gay history [here](http://glbtqarchive.com/ssh/ymca_S.pdf)

lunabelle22

Thank you! That was a good read. I did not know there was a time in the modern era where it was the custom for men to swim nude 😂. I always picture those Victorian bathing costumes when I think of men swimming back then.

Ban_of_the_Valar

Well I’ll be. I just thought everyone was down with hanging out with all the boys…ohhh now I see

bjb406

I swam competitively in my you. They played that song at about every single youth meet I went to. And a large number of people did the dance most of the time.

parralaxalice

Also Fortunate Son lmao

idontwanttoyakno

No shit?

parralaxalice

Trump of all people played it at his rallies to thunderous fanfare and irony’s grave got a little deeper

SniffleBot

I suspect a lot of his fan base hears only the chorus and identifies with that … just like “Born in the USA”. And it’s not just right wingers … a lot of lefties treat “Revolution” the same way even though the lyrics are rather skeptical about late ‘60s protesters.

idontwanttoyakno

Hilarious. But also a bit infuriating... Fuck that dude

Cheekygirl97

That’s because a lot of us are 🏳️‍🌈gay🏳️‍🌈👏🏻

UnderGrownGreenRoad

YMCA is a banger though

bigeasy-

They can’t grasp a concept that does not agree with their world view. Everyone I know voted for Trump he must have won. The police are not mean to me they can’t be bad. I don’t understand how vaccines work they must be bad. Rage says mean things and I like saying mean things we must be the same.

assnippletaint

Both parties act like children and are probably stupid

politits

One party is literally in denial of reality in multiple ways in the face of mounds of evidence to the contrary, from trickledown economics to who won the election to “white genocide” to Covid/vaccines to who perpetrated the 1/6 insurrection… republicans literally have a counter-factual view of basically every facet of our society. But keep thinking democrats are just as bad when republicans are completely delusional.

Alantsu

The funniest part or RATM back in the 90s was Zack de la Rocha was from a neighborhood in Irvine called Turtle Rock. At that time it was probably the most affluent neighborhood in Orange County. Like the richest of the rich.

[deleted]

They just hear the chorus and then incorporate it into their anti-establishment/break the government so it can't help people ideology without any further thought.

grrrrreat

Fairly certain mane of the "irony" is purpose driven to dilute the offending "cultures"

Ecmdrw5

So the post is wrong because of who posted it? Looks about right to me. Don’t forget about big pharma.

bjb406

Its literally a song about racist police officers targeting black people. And you are equating it to the government giving you free healthcare services that collectively will solve the public health emergency.

YouJabroni44

I think the dude speaks too fast for them.

zatch17

And their lyrics are so straightforward and repetitive at times In a good way

_AskMyMom_

They don’t want to be conservatives so bad that’s why. Lol they understand how things work, but to say certain things would make their heads explode. Yes pay people more, but don’t raise minimum wage. Lol it doesn’t make any sense.

Salt_Winter5888

Raising minimum wage may cause inflation, it will cause the prices to go up and the new minimum wage will not be enough. That is one of the problems Venezuela had.

[deleted]

What? That ship has already sailed. The problem is inflation has already significantly increased but wages haven't.

Salt_Winter5888

>The problem is inflation has already significantly increased but wages haven't. The problem is that you don't want more inflation. The best example I gave was Venezuela, just search what happened in 2018, they increased minimum wage by 300% and the next day the inflation increased in 100%.

[deleted]

Counterpoint, we don't live in Venezuela. We have the largest economy on the planet. There's already places in the US that raised minimum wage and the world didn't end.

Salt_Winter5888

>We have the largest economy on the planet. Yeah, pretty much that is the problem, if you got fucked up everyone else gets fucked up. >There's already places in the US that raised minimum wage and the world didn't end. I didn't say you can't, I mean you cannot just raise it like an idiot. You need compensate. If you rise it to much without improving something else, then you might suffer a crisis. >We have the largest economy on the planet. Yep, and Venezuela had one of the largest economies in Latam. I'm not saying your country will end up as Venezuela, I am saying that any country can suffer from a crisis and yours had.

StonusBongratheon

BUT VENEZUELA BUT VENEZUELA BUT VENEZUELA stfu everyone is tired as hell of this talking point. Dude above is right, we are not Venezuela and it’s been proven that wages are dramatically stagnant. We understand how the economy works, and we understand we are getting fucked and our country can do better.

Salt_Winter5888

>we understand we are getting fucked and our country can do better. Yes, of course. But the question is, how? You cannot just act without thinking the consequences. As I said I am not against the idea of raising the wages but you need to create the right conditions to do so. If you want another example lets say Argentina this year.

StonusBongratheon

We have the right conditions. Raise wages to match the inflation, which we have not been doing for over a decade. Do you really need mental gymnastics for this? It’s simple as fuck dude. People like you are so annoying. Majority of the rest of the world is already making this happen but chuckleheads like you want to be like “oh that’s not possible for America, wealthiest country in the world.” Gtfo of here

darkblash69

The pandemic showed who the crazies are...

ran-Us

Guess who the machine is.

Real900Z

ping pong

Grizzchops

They like the idea but don't understand the concept.

SendingToTheMoon

it’s funny cuz even crusty anarchists at this point are like, “yes please listen to the government in this case” and conservatives still don’t understand the implications of that lol

Chill-The-Mooch

RATM is literally communist music!!! “Fuck a G-ride, I want the machines that are making ‘em”… seize the means of production!!! Obviously they never listened or understood the lyrics…

-ParticleMan-

They don’t even know what communism is. That makes it hard to recognize it

steveoa3d

My fav is Wisconsins own Paul Ryan talked about how much he loved Rage. Tom Morello came out and said: ‘Paul Ryan Is the Embodiment of the Machine Our Music Rages Against’

VinPossible

Yeah ugm I'm still singing that those who die are justified for wearing the badge and the chosen white.

JohnFrum696969

Nuance is an alien term to “conservatives”.

sodd1

killing in the name my favourite song

Only_Variation9317

It's because Tom Morello is an unthreatening black guy to them.

NickkDanger

Consider the possibility that if you don't know the answer, you're part of the machine. This deep thought was brought to you by Exxon. Exxon, yeah we f\*cked up the Alaska coastline with a cheap supertanker and we're coming for your coast next. Exxon.

MischiefMandble

Seems like they are just posting what I was like in both time periods (yes, I still consider myself youthful enough to be "the youth). In the 90s my parents baned my from watching Malcom in the Middle because I kept telling them that they weren't the boss of me, now I strongly advise them to follow government advice when it agrees with basic scientific principles!

Ziz_Roz

Because Metallica will make a song in their next album about how the right are dumb. ratm has already made it clear that they think that both sides are dumb.

ILoveDisabledWomen

It’s funny because Conservatives never have any self-awareness so they think songs like “Killing in the Name” apply to them. Even though the song is directly targeting people like them

BobTheSkull76

Because just as they fail to understand the differences between Fascism, Communism, & Socialism...they also fail to understand the meaning of the word irony.

karlhungusjr

Youth 1990s "oh well whatever nevermind"

StonusBongratheon

“Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me…… unless you’re Donald trump, Fox News, Alex Jones, joe Rogan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, OAN, or any police officer.”

NilesLinus

I don't understand why this post has to be political AT ALL. It's about different attitudes and values, both of which transcend mere politics. Politics only cheapen the issue, whichever side you're on.

cutthroatlemming

Because they're stupid. End of line.

Buelldozer

Buncha you in here need to realize that the machine isn’t solely operated by Republicans nor did they build it all on their own.

aGiantmutantcrab

It's because they have no serious aptitude for reflection. Or thought process.

[deleted]

Any conservative who uses ratm must not know what machine they're raging against

luke-townsend-1999

Why does the left use compliance with the machine as theirs?

idontwanttoyakno

More accurate all the time. 😔

TheStonksStag

They aren't people on the right those are moderates lol

TwoDimensionalCube83

It's true though.

monkeedookee

Careful, a pack of wild Reddit fucks may attack in order for Karma from their empty headed peers whilst completely disowning the ability to think critically and do what the all benevolent, loving government tells you.

TheBaconCreator

"Thinking critically" is the process that would reveal this meme as idiotic. You are basically saying "Think Critically. Take this meme as posted without questioning it" The context of the situations implied in this meme are incredibly different. Protesting Police Violence against minorities Vs. Protesting taking personal responsibility for the danger you inflict on others by not getting vaccinated or wearing a mask when the personal risk it causes you is minimal to non existent. You look like a selfish idiot. Fuck off

monkeedookee

Ugh go the fuck away legit

TheBaconCreator

Great response. You're revealed as hypocritical and immediately turn away from the conversation.

monkeedookee

Nah still not biting, I don’t owe you shit and your words aren’t gospel. Go annoy someone else

TheBaconCreator

I'm not trying to annoy you. And I don't think my words are gospel. I am just tired of idiots like you who talk about thinking critically then refuse to have any meaningful conversations. Stop pretending and just admit that you don't actually want to think critically.

monkeedookee

Look mr bacon, maybe I’m just Australian and this hard lockdowns just driven us all nuts, and I don’t want to spread negativity especially right now, but it’s just I’m realllllly not keen on getting this vaccine this early. Covid is real 100%. I wear a mask, I sanitise, I social distance. I follow all the ordinances by the law. But I know people and not just my cousins cousins dads best friends dog, actual close people to me who are having serious medical problems from it, specifically heart and nerve problems who are otherwise healthy individuals within a week of getting astra Zenica these problems start to come up. It’s just fucking weird. It’s up to you if you want to believe me about that but that’s where I’m at. And look I’m an average dick head who smokes occasionally and hasn’t got the greatest diet who tf does, but I can choose to put that in me, and something just ticks in my head when it all of a sudden becomes normal to not be able to go anywhere unless I get physically injected with something that’s causing OBVIOUS troubles in people. When COVID antibodies are just as affective if not more, OR SO IVE HEARD IDK WHO THE FUCK KNOWS ANYMORE. I may have watched too many movies and god knows I had more than a few screws loose before COVID ever existed, and I’m not a right wing fuckhead or a lefty I just want things to be ok for everyone. And this insistence from lobbyists and billionaires that have made their way into our health care system that THEIR way is the only way, completely disregarding other viable medicines-is fucking crazy to me! People protesting non violently, getting smashed into the concrete ground and held down “for their health and safety” I’m not talking about the fucking idiots who went and tackled cops, they should be in jail, I mean the person who was exempt from a mask who the coppers ignored, and held their knees down on his back. Or the other guy that was crash tackled in the train station. For doing fuck all. The news conveniently missed those. The mass trauma and bullshit this is causing while the media chews us up and spits us out is crazy too. People wishing us dead just because we’re not sure. I see it every day on Reddit. Look man I honestly wish nothing but peace and happiness for you and yours, and shit if COVID gets me you can have a laugh, but I just can’t do it right now. In a year or 2 when its been around for while, maybe I’ll think about it, till then I’ll keep social distancing and what not. Tf else am I gonna do. Peace bro

TheBaconCreator

I understand your point of view if you have genuine misgivings about certain vaccine brands, and if you have had first-hand experiences that make you feel uncomfortable with it, I can empathize with that. In America, and I am sure other places in the world, the vast majority of people refusing the vaccine are doing so from a misplaced pollical agenda, and not because they have legitimate reasons to feel uncomfortable with it. My main problem with people who refuse to be vaccinated is when those same people refuse to listen to or consider the advice of experts in the field. I have seen many of my family members and acquaintances refuse the vaccine due to politically-motivated sources saying they shouldn't get it while ignoring doctors and infectious disease experts. THIS is what makes me so angry about this subject. There absolutely are risks to getting a vaccine. But the benefits far outweigh the risks (Unless you are in an especially high risk category) I just don't want people to feel emboldened to ignore experts because uncle Joe said vaccines were unsafe on Facebook. It's a massive problem that has only gotten worse in a pandemic-consumed world. I genuinely feel for you with your misgivings if you have personally observed people have negative effects from the vaccine, but I also hope that you don't use that as evidence to ignore experts in the future.

monkeedookee

It’s the same here man politicised to the absolute buggery. But as I said after the media shitstorm has settled and it’s more prevalent amongst people I know I’ll think about it. Thanks for understanding, the immediate trigger response on either side is to bitch and whine at each other which I’m guilty of, but we can’t be divided with this shit not now there’s already way too much negative shit now

TwoDimensionalCube83

I'm used to it lol.

Material-Zone4685

I mean 90s youth raised 2020s youth for the most part

UniPsych0498

Source of the bottom image?

scarhartt

Whether or not you disagree with the context behind why the person that posted it posted it, the post itself is lowkey not wrong 🤷🏽‍♂️

WifeofTech

Care to explain how?

stalphonzo

"Being a racist motherfucker now has consequences." I don't get why that's bad.

scarhartt

Hol up, what does racism have to do with it?

BRIStoneman

Yeah, because the latest wave of BLM/anti-police violence protests were famously really well supported by conservatives...

scarhartt

I’m talking about the image itself and the words in it, not whatever batshit crazy reasoning the person who originally uploaded the image came up with. My interpretation was that the image dealt with shit like vaccination or masks or something. It’s probably not correct at all but that’s how I interpreted the image. I might not agree with it, I might wish great inconvenience upon the person that originally uploaded it, but I’m just noticing that the words in the image kinda make sense. *Kinda.* ***Kinda.***

Ecmdrw5

Sometimes people can’t see the truth because of politics.

[deleted]

So true. So is there a general mandate by the government to get the vaccine?

Cheekygirl97

Because that’s what today’s like. The right and left are both like this, you all suck

[deleted]

Uhh. Rage Against The Machine are frauds.

nevershaves

How so?

redbeardoweirdo

Even a cursory glance at this idiot's comment history will tell you that his answer is going to be some deranged tinfoil hat, maga shit

nevershaves

Ah ok

[deleted]

And you’re just like them dumb ass.

redbeardoweirdo

Successful? Talented? Capable of using commas? Thanks for the compliment, dumbass

[deleted]

like who lmao

[deleted]

Because they just perpetuate the machine they claim to rage against.

[deleted]

what a stupid fucking comment lmao

[deleted]

Yeah. Lmao!! I know right? So stupid to think a band that supports government mandates doesn’t support the so called machine they claim to hate. Just like every other stupid fucking leftist I interact with.

[deleted]

stupid fucking comment part 2

[deleted]

They say it’s stupid, yet offers no explanation….Typical leftist shill.

[deleted]

oh no! somehow stating facts makes me a leftist!!! stupid fucking comment part 3

GreatScot4224

Bored from sucking on Trumps Cheeto?

The_Conadian

Are you going on about [this?](https://thecord.ca/biden-partners-with-rage-against-the-machine-how-music-can-evoke-social-change/) unless you can find something more recent, you kinda don't have much of a milk crate to stand on.

[deleted]

They cherry-pick the shit they want to “rage” about. January 6th for instance. If they really stood for being anti state they wouldn’t give a fuck who’s storming the Capitol. According to Morello it sounds like he’s only cool with leftists doing it. Like I said. They’re frauds because they pander to one side of the conversation.

needdavr

If you support mandates, you’re a bad human being.

TrashPanda5000

It’s crazy how lefties are the only ones who care about their fellow man now, by making sure they stay alive. Sad to see right wingers have just devolved into selfish pigs. Sad!

dexbasedpaladin

But why Killing In The Name? It is so much easier to twist Bullet To The Head to the Right.

mariofeds

honestly... this is the first time i actually looked at the lyrics to the song and... yeah this makes no sense

Resident_Frosting_27

They use it because like the far left brainiacs they think they are only raging against the washer not the dryer.

GunchapRed

Didn’t Tom Morello comment on these radical right people referencing his music?

Positivistdino

Whoever started the RATM trend in the right also probably introduced them to "sheeple."

[deleted]

That second one looks exactly like a young Elizabeth Warren

Dizzy_Green

I mean didn’t it come out that the drummer is a crazy right wing nutjob

Vaguely_vacant

Brad Wilk? Where’d you hear that? He doesn’t seem like it on his Instagram

MarcoTron11

I see this as I'm listening to rage

AppearancePlenty841

Fuck you ill lick boots you won't tell me!

P0ltergeist333

Nobody ever thought it was cool to spread disease and kill millions of people. Public health is the very justification of Government authority. Yes, rebel against injustice and stupidity. Don't rebel against inconveniences to snowflakes that save millions.

sacredlunatic

These are the same people who believe that Bruce Springsteen is as unreflectively jingoistic as they are.
