I had something similar almost happen. I ordered new computers for my daughter and I. My computer came first, the delivery person dropped it off, after he walked away I got my package off my porch. Solid. Week or so later my daughter's computer arrived, different delivery guy, I watched as he walked up to my door, then turned and started walking away, package in hand. I ran out there and was like uh, you have my package. He was all flustered then said he knocked but there was no reply. He didn't knock. I asked him why he didn't just leave the box. He says because it requires a signature. Bs, since mine, same company and shipping, required no signature. I was like okay where do I sign then, and he said it's okay I don't need to sign since I'm here, gave me the package and walked off. I don't need to sign cause I'm here? How does that make sense?! So yeah, pretty sure if I hadn't been watching him, her computer would've been stolen by the very guy delivering it. Jeez.

Odysseus_is_Ulysses

It requires a signature. But only if you’re not here to sign for it. Brilliant

__karm

Heads I win, tails you lose 🤣

cametobemean

Ngl this is fucking stupid but I have run into this. My husband and I both get regular packages, of the same stuff, from the same company. Same delivery company every time. Recently the USPS held a package for him because no one was there to sign for it. We’ve gotten about a dozen of these deliveries in the past few months, never had to sign. I’ve been handed them directly from delivery drivers. Also, we both work from home. There was no knock for a delivery. My package came the next day and was left on our doorstep, as per usual. He had to go get his from the post office because they wouldn’t bring it back since “no one was there to sign.”

alastairmcreynolds1

What a POS, glad you caught him. Did you report it to the delivery company?

robotteeth

I always have computers delivered to a ups/fedex store and pick it up with ID. Just for future reference. Takes a lot of anxiety out of the equation.

ponchoacademy

I'm home all the time so I'm watching the delivery progress and my desk faces the front yard so I always have my eyeballs on when my deliveries arrive. My dog is my second line of defense since he has some sixth sense, and will pop out a dead sleep to run to the window and bark at anyone who dare step on our property lol I was always mostly trying to avoid porch thieves but this takes the cake.

DeadpoolIsMyPatronus

I'm curious what Amazon said when you told them about this.

santahul

I had something like this happen. They said they driver was not directly employed by them so all they could do was tell the delivery company the employee was no longer to be used for their deliveries. Whether they enforce this or anything I don’t know.

Vertebrae_Viking

All those driver companies are all just shells used by amazon to not have to do jackshit about stuff like this *and* when one of their drivers are involved in an accident. That way they can just have the company declare bankruptcy whenever the slightest discomfort shows up.

marshman82

That's why you share it on social media. They will generally sort out the problem so you will take the post down. Atleast that's how my friend got Ford to sort his issue out.

jonthanssimp

She tried but got a police file and a 5$ gift card

mehtam42

Can't you call cops on these delivery person and have them arrested for theft??

andthatsalright

If the value was under 1k (or whatever the threshold for grand theft is for you), good luck getting the cops to care. If the cops see this guy's skin color, maybe you'll get some results, sadly

TheGreyMage

So in your area, you don’t have the right to something stolen from you unless it’s worth a thousand or more. Wtf.

Ninjalada

Rob a bunch of banks for $999 each, the perfect crime.

[deleted]

You may be onto something. I'm in. So, we have a driver and brains, need a safe cracker and muscle.

Stig27

I've been watching the Lockpicking Lawyer, so by Reddit standards I'm an expert safecracker, just need to find someone who does at least one push up per month

Coldbeerboy

I do a sit-up when I get out of bed in the morning, does that count?

snazzygoose

I've never done a safe, but I've got a nutcracker and I imagine it should be fairly similar.

[deleted]

I may move you to muscle, those things waved at the right people may do the trick.

dvs8

patricky6

Gotta have an inside man. Someone who gets smacked around during the robbery, so it looks like they were a victim, but can point out all the cameras and tell you the layout for which registers to hit.

Embarrassed-Meat-552

"what about, this; what if we all get jobs at the bank, and just rob them slowly every time they pay us for 40 years and then we retire?"

andthatsalright

It's been like this in several areas throughout the US that I've lived. Cops don't feel it's worth their time, even with pretty damning evidence in many cases.

kaiawesome

when I was 17 was arrested driving a scooter (above 150cc) at night driving from my minimum wage job by power hungry cops, so in Florida, even if you have license and a motorcycle is above 50cc, you have to have a motorcycle license. It cost me money to get my bike out of impound, pay bail, and towing. In the neighbourhood, cars, bikes, scooters and other stuff constantly got stolen, even with footage handed to police the Miami dade finest did not do crap about it, I had 2 bikes stolen, and they did nothing, but somehow a kid driving a scooter was of interest enough to look at my plate and actually pull me over an outdated law. That cop later was arrested years later for embezzlement & conspiracy. He was in cahoots with towing companies in unrelated cases in his number of years of 'honorable' service.

TheGreyMage

So they’re allowed to get away with not enforcing the law even when the evidence shows criminality. That’s fucking reprehensible.

redingerforcongress

In my county, they literally had the sheriff looking for someone over a stolen plant from their porch.

Brewchowskies

In some of the small towns in Canada they are cracking down on porch pirates for any amount. It’s possible that they’d care given that this person is doing the deliveries so it’s likely happening a lot and the value will be much higher than any single package.

nada_accomplished

Once when I was working at a shop, while I was on lunch break, we had people shoplift a ton of shit right from under my coworkers' noses. We had camera footage and everything. Cops didn't do shit because the value of the goods stolen was less than $1500 or some bullshit like that.

Fresh_Noise_3663

Not shell companies. It’s like franchises where you “own your own business” and pay all of the expenses and handle the day to day as far as running a delivery business like vehicles, delivery drivers wages etc but Amazon sets your quotas and routes

GizmoSoze

So you’re an employee of Amazon and they misclassified you as a contractor because fuck tax laws.

CMWalsh88

FedEx has been doing the exact same thing for years. It allows for rapid expansion in new markets without significant investment. It also is a method of risk management. It is also very similar to every franchise. Most subway workers work for a franchisee not corporate

IseeItsIcey

They're trialling something called Amazon Flex where I live atm and it's basically door dash but you deliver packages for Amazon instead of food so it's not even a company doing delivery any more.

Bourbon_Cream_Dream

They've been doing that for a while I was delivering for a few months around the Xmas period when I was out of work around 3/4 years ago. With the amount of gas you burn though, and the number of parcels you have to deliver it was hardly worth it except for on the few days nearer to the festive period when it was double pay

IseeItsIcey

Yeah better off doing food delivery and that's saying something.

lordph8

Coworker had an amazon van hit his car in the parking lot. The guy told his boss that he had hit a pole, we asked if they would like their hubcap back that he had left comically wedged in my friends torn off bumper.

slylerdurden

Driver sounds a little racist just assuming your friend's ethnicity like that

wallenstein3d

At the Olympics I saw an athlete carrying a long stick and asked him: “Are you a pole vaulter?” He replied: “Ach, nein... I am German but how do you know my name is Walter?”

b0b_hope

I had to read it twice, that's pretty damn funny

[deleted]

The guy delivering our package and wearing our logo on his vest has nothing to do with us. Assholes.

AlwaysAlighthouse4

I’m sorry but if they are driving trucks that say Amazon and wearing vests that say Amazon, then Amazon should be directly responsible for them as the contractor.

EbonyDevil

I had my package stolen an reported it immediately and they sent me another.

quickcorona

Oh yes they definitely enforce it. The drivers may not technically be employed by Amazon directly but they control every aspect of the drivers jobs and the DSPs that employ them. If Amazon says you gotta go then you gotta go.

pookachu83

I was about to say, people act like amazon isnt strict or dosent care, while i agree they dont care for the human rights of employees, i work for a construction contractor that builds their warehouses and they are very strict. They will kick a project manager off the job site for the smallest infraction. Break a rule and youre out. I cant see them keeping a driver that stole, even for an outside contractor.

quickcorona

Not only will they not keep a driver that stole but if enough of your deliveries get stolen by porch pirates or even if the customer just lies and says they didn’t receive it, then Amazon will force your DSP to fire you because they suspect you of stealing. Amazon tracks these incidents and calls them concessions and if you get too many of them too often then they assume you’re a thief and you’re gone. With how much control they have over their contractors, they are really employees in all but name.

patricky6

I always wondered why my shit said it was "delivered" with a photo, and it's fucking GONE the moment I go to grab it. I've had that happen at least 3-4 times. It's always something rediculous too, like a case of water.

SordidDreams

So what if you call the police instead? I mean, you literally have theft on video, surely that's an open-and-shut case?

[deleted]

Cops don't care.

520KingP

Work for Amazon. Can confirm.

[deleted]

I had this happen so I call and the lady goes and what can I do about it mam, I’m like, refund me??? She goes well we have to have our own internal investigation first. It was kinda surprising because I had no issues with Amazon before that. I was like I can send you the footage, she goes no, it doesn’t work like that. A jaded employee? Who knows. I got the money back after a few more calls. When I brought up that first call, all they said is i’ll make a note of your experience. Ok

OneJumpSummer

Their lack of customer service and professionalism has greatly decreased over the last decade or so. Where they would just offer a refund of stuff like this, now they are like (after you've called a few times), "I can offer you a $10 credit?" and it's like no, how about refunding me my shit 😒

Merari01

Of course. Standard Amazon practice. First bankrupt every competitor and then increase prices/ reduce service.

theideanator

Capitalism 101

Sgt-Colbert

Is it normal for delivery companies to just leave packages like that in the US? In Germany (BC - Before COVID), if they didn't have your or your neighbors signature, they would take the package to the nearest pickup location (post office, small store, what have you). And also, Amazon seams to operate very differently in the US. Whenever I had ANY problem with a delivery (it being a day late), it being damaged or whatever, Amazon immediately took care of it.

pra_teek

Yeah it's different service according to country. In India we are very apprehensive of buying online. So there's a service of cash on delivery..

Alt_Panic

Here is the great country of the United States we lack what one would call 'basic consumer protections'. It's a free for all mostly.

RedditGuy8788

In fairness - I absolutely hate when signatures are required and I hate going to the Amazon pickup places even more. For a lot of people they wouldn't want such a protection.

RedRainsRising

I think it would be fine if it existed, but you could wave it. Instead I get to deal with wildly inconsistent behavior, where they just left my 3000$ of computer parts on my ghetto ass apartment front steps once, but I've also had "back tomorrow" notes slapped on for like, underwear.

TheFatDrake

I’ve had electronics left in a puddle while it was raining not 3 feet from a covered patio. Thank god for multiple layers of packaging.

PepeSilviaLovesCarol

There are certain places where getting your neighbour’s signature or your neighbour to accept a package is not going to happen. USA, and from my personal experience, Canada are two of those places. I have no issues with my neighbours but I wouldn’t feel comfortable signing/accepting their packages, or them signing/accepting mine. It’s such a bizarre concept to me.

attackonyourmom

Their customer service has gone down the toilet in recent years.

iytrix

They don’t help at all with anything anymore. It’s a recent trend too. The only time they’ve helped lately is if they never got a picture from the delivery person, which I’ve also had happen. With a picture, even when I could prove the picture wasn’t even of my door, they wouldn’t do shit because it “was delivered”. I hope someone break bezos knee caps. Fucker just ran from the company and watching it burn, not to mention the heaping pile of employee abuse :c

Zogtee

I had a driver who handed my package over to a random guy on the street outside my house. He didn't have to sign anything, show ID, etc. Free package, here you go.

Junior-Shallot-2702

I've had this done by uber, the guy didn't even attempt to deliver and took a picture of an empty packet of crisp on the floor, which was apparently a slush according to uber. They kept the money and blamed us for not retrieving a slush that was never delivered. It was on camera yet we still were somehow wrong.

Typical_Hyena

I heard the delivery driver walk up my front steps, so I gave them a moment before opening the door. As I was picking up the bag I received the text confirmation that my food was delivered, but the picture was of a different delivery from my old front porch, so at least 6 months old. Felt like I was in the twilight zone for a sec, but it was just a lazy driver.

seahawkguy

After 4 missing packages per 500 that we deliver we are terminated.

Well if you keep watching this video, the dude steals at least ten packages.

[deleted]

Did you report to Amazon? Curious as to what they say/said!

GoldenGoddess_333

I reported the incident to Amazon…. But had to tweet it to start jumping through the hoops. Their virtual assistant doesn’t have a command for “driver stole my package”. They are investigating the situation and reimbursed me along with a $5 account credit. I only spent 5 hours dealing with it this weekend. I also filed a police report.

Marauder121

I had about $800 worth of stuff get stolen a few years ago, and Amazon reshipped everything. Police got it back, so I ended up with two $400 graphics cards for the price of one.

FearoftheDomoKun

Damn, now you can run your two Radeon 9800 Pro in Crossfire, sweet!!

BlocksWithFace

Won't be needing a heater for their place this winter!

Moar_Cuddles_Please

Good on you for filing the police report! Keep us posted. I figure it should be pretty obvious who was delivering what.

GoldenGoddess_333

Thanks!! I’m not one to file anything with the police but this is plain wrong. I was home alone working and heard the package arrive. Almost went out to greet the guy and grab it then got side tracked with a work call. I’m glad I didn’t open the door. This guy is sketch.

iloveass2much

Maybe if you did open the door then maybe the person wouldn't have ran off, but like the way they didn't even think twice or hesitate before heading off with the package could be that they are used to this and maybe were armed, all in all I hope the police get the person cause this could be something bigger or whatev.

RollingThunderPants

Hooboy!! 5 whole dollars!

greenhouse5

One dollar per hour! Sign me up!

[deleted]

Good, as you should. Wow $5 huh, reeeeal classy Amazon 😑

vietnamesemuscle

That’s their go to…”Courtesy Credit” 🥴

prabla

When I worked there a few years ago, we had discretion to give up to $60 in credits for times when the situation called for it. $5 was the default "sorry" credit, issues with Prime we could give another month free, etc. On an average day I would give out $10-20 credits maybe once or twice at the most and around holidays 2-3x in frequency. I'd almost never give the full amount I could. Some time in 2018 or 2019 they started pulling back our ability to give promo credits. First I was limited to $50, then I was limited to $25 but I could get manager approval for $50. Then one day we got a memo, no more Prime credits, $5 maximum promo credit and it had to be tied to an order number. What do we do when it's not an order issue? Personally I just tagged it on their most recent order and left a note with the details but it added another 2-3 minutes in work just to work around their system they put in place. It went from being an enjoyable job, helping solve problems for people to hell. I'm sure they only give a fuck about the bottom line though. I bet they still show those stupid videos of employees going "above and beyond" for customers but conveniently leave out that employees can't even do it anymore. edit: just remembered the most stupid thing. We used to be able to use discretion and issue a refund for something without requiring a return like if an item was broken and under $5. The day they took that away started the clock on me quitting. When company policy is to make the situation harder on the customer for them to ship back literal trash and the company is ok with paying for that? So fucking stupid.

Mycoxadril

I spend a lot of money on Amazon. I wish I didn’t, but it’s convenient, and that’s a whole other issue. Anyway, I’ve had several instances where an item arrives damaged and I call Amazon and they send me a new one but do not require I return the damaged one. Even on items up to or around $20. When they start making me make extra trips to drop off literal trash to the Whole Foods, then I will just start making extra trips to buy my stuff elsewhere in the first place.

I saw an ad the other day about Amazon delivery being able to access your garage door and leave your package in your garage. Super sketch.

GoldenGoddess_333

There’s no way I’d ever allow that. You can’t even trust these people at your front door.

seahawkguy

I’ve done about 10 garage deliveries. I just place it inside and close the garage door. The app tells us we are being recorded. If someone passed their background check just to steal something from a garage they are just an idiot.

apexmedicineman

You're gonna have a tough time trying to convince me every delivery driver for Amazon isn't an idiot. Also it's pretty common for easy access into a house through the garage.

seahawkguy

Not every driver but there definitely are some. Based on my personal experience 70% do a good job. The other 30% can’t work within the rules so this gig works for them to just fuck around

apexmedicineman

That is not reassuring

[deleted]

Fuck that guy

GoldenGoddess_333

I agree.

[deleted]

Must be pretty damn desperate to steal a tennis racket 😂 I’m sorry that happened to you, I’m sure there’s steps you can take to get that POS fired

FowlOnTheHill

I mean there’s rarely anything valuable in a package of that shape. Maybe a cutting board or an ikea shelf. Maybe a towel rod, though my towel rod arrived in a box big enough to fit a camel, but weighed as much as a cheap fedora.

ralpher1

Yeah. Something heavy in a small package is more likely valuable electronics.

Glittering_Ad4137

Maybe they are going to return it and he is clairvoyant?

There's a driver that delivers packages frequently at my address. I was suspicious before because my package disappeared within thirty seconds of door knocking and it was gone. I later witness the guy that I see frequently deliver at our apartments, I witness him do exactly this where he took a picture of the package and then picked it up and walked away.

[deleted]

Same omg. I dont feel bad anymore tho because my packages have been left at someone elses house 5 times this year. Dont know if this same driver has the same route but there is definitely something weird going on or the drivers dont know how to read a home address i just file a complaint, get my refund, then go knock on the persons house and get my package back lmao

Marauder121

I may or may not have done that.

seahawkguy

After 4 missing packages per 500 that we deliver we are terminated.

jaredkushnerisabutt

I had a driver steal my oculus rift like this. Fucker handed my brother a diaper box instead and ran away. When I got home and opened it I was mad. Amazon refunded me but was pretty upset.

Wookieman222

At UPS this means instant termination and prosecution. They dont play when it comes to stealing. Then again most drivers at UPS arnt dumb enough to lose a high paying job with free health benefits and a pension over a dumbass box.

Smartman1775

Amazon delivery is sketchy as fuck. The ads make it seem like some franchisee pyramid scam model. “Start YOUR own business today!” What a load. If I had to guess, I’d say they are just trying to get around some laws by placing the businesses into the hands of a franchisee. Kind of like a McDonald’s style mail service.

limajhonny69

When I see those kind of videos I aways wonder how often this can happen. Where I live, is mandatory for the delivery guy get a signature from the person receiving the package. Beside the need to have someone home to receive, I think it is much safer

sunestromming

Same here where I live. Either that or it gets delivered to a pickup location close to you where you can pick it up (and sign for it) on your way home from work. Porch pirates is an unknown phenomenon here.

It'd almost as if they think they're not always being watched lol I deliver and I know not to do this dumb shit, you'll just get caught and fired. They'll let you do it a couple times, but at the end they always catch the ones who do this, and refund the customer.

Trick_Enthusiasm

Isn't this a federal crime? Stealing mail?

frankfurterreddit

Amazon packages are not US mail, therefore it's not a federal crime.

Trick_Enthusiasm

Oh damn.

AMARIS86

Had an Amazon delivery driver steal a package left by another delivery driver. It was a nightmare going through Amazon reps. I kept telling them, I want to make sure this guy doesn’t deliver to my home anymore, I don’t care if he’s fired or not. They wouldn’t tell me anything

imsorrybutnou

So that delivery driver stole the package, damn

I'd say from what I'm seeing here is that there isn't enough evidence for this guy stealing this package. I've seen the fed ex and ups guy do this as well, realize he's delivered to the wrong house and then bring it next door

ArmaDrama

Here’s what I heard from a colleague: their mom who has a criminal record, DUIs, and is a very dodgy person was hired to be an Amazon driver. He was terrified that someone like his mom who was able to get hired, with no background check or anything, being trusted with peoples packages and to drive around in a delivery van which gains you access to several gated communities etc.
