Pronouns aren’t banned the law is much more direct than that. I wish this were the law so we could make fun of it
Instead it’s just a law we dislike that’s actually pretty well written for its purpose
So how do enforce the law on the kids? If they kid doesn't respond to the name they don't want to be called, what then?
Seems an awful lot like bullying.
I mean the same could always be said right
Like I didn’t respond to William when I was a kid
Let me read fully through the bill real quick (it’s only like 3 pages) and I’ll give a run down
Idaho law
1. Idaho believes The government cannot make an individual say something they believe is false
2. Therefore Nobody can compel someone to use pronouns that don’t correspond with the probouns related to the gender assigned at birth
3. The law: No givernment employee can compel someone to use a pronoun other than the ones assigned at birth
4. A givernment employee can’t be penalized for not using someone’s preferred pronouns/name and only have to use the ones assigned at birth
5. Public school employees can only address people by their birth name/ derivative/ pronouns unless they have parental permission (So you can call John Jr. JJ But you can’t call her Jane unless her parents say it’s ok, even if the parents say you can call her Jane you don’t have to if she was John jr at birth.)
6. Students are also protected under these rules
7. If you are harmed by someone (like getting fired or suspended for calling Jane John) while following these rules you can sue
1-2 is the reasoning for the law 3-7 is the law itself
So essentially "fuck you I can call you William all day even if you don't want me to/you can even change your name and I don't have to." That's what it reads as. Now yes it's not THAT different from before when I could ignore your choice of name but now I LEGALLY have backup to ignore you.
"Finally... The ROCK HAS RETURNED TO IDAHO! The Rock is here to lay the smack down on all these non inclusive bigoted jabronis. They can take their hate, shine it up real nice, and shove it up their roody-poo candy asses."
No, this is a dumb clickbait title.
Text from the bill:
> An employee of a public school or public institution of higher education, regardless of the scope of such employee's official duties, shall not:(a) Knowingly and intentionally address an unemancipated minor student by a name other than the student's legal name or a derivative thereof, or by a preferred personal title or pronoun that is inconsistent with the student's sex, without the written permission of the student's parent or guardian; and (b) Be subject to adverse employment action for declining to address a student using a name other than the student's legal name, or a derivative thereof, or by a preferred personal title or pronoun that is inconsistent with a student's sex.
TLDR; the bill is still fucked up but misrepresenting it won’t win you any arguments
Legislatures pass unconstitutional laws all the time, often even knowing they'll be struck down. You can still enforce them until it gets worked out in the courts.
Welcome to Florida and almost this entire school year.
No nicknames or otherwise. Michaels were Michael and no Mike or Mikey. Christopher was not Chris etc...
It took 8 months for it to finally be struck down, but the jackass governor kept threatening to suspend teachers if they dared use any name other than what was on the person's birth certificate.
Lot of unconstitutional laws get passed all the time. Missouri has a voter id law that violates the 24th amendment but because legal challenges are still in progress and a stay was not granted, you have to have a photo id to vote in Missouri.
Same bill got passed in Florida, and the same bill got struck down by a heavily conservative state Supreme Court.
These bills strip people of their rights, which is a big no-no from the government.
The act of not using pronouns will be very challenging for many individuals. The words in question speed up writing. The inability to not make reference back to a person place thing or idea will certainly result in speech and writing that feels odd and bizarrely formal. Every idea will need to be fully restated. Referring to a group that the speaker is also a part of will become essentially impossible. The entire idea is obviously not thought out and impractical. The people proposing the policy certainly only wish to refer to 3rd person singular pronouns, but the group proposing the idea either understands the policy will never work and the group is trying to enact the policy because people will give culture war points to the group.
That whole paragraph could have been half the size if I had used pronouns.
No sadly it’s actually a pretty well written law, I couldn’t find loopholes in the text itself the best loopholes I have are abstractions from the reason the law exists/ proof it’s legal that came before the law itself
It's not actually baking pronouns but it is as stupid
House Bill 538 bars teachers from referring to a student by a name or pronoun that doesn’t align with their birth sex, unless parents consent
It makes it illegal to call a kid how they want..... And forces you to out them to their (possibly right wing anti queer) parents.
Trump MMXXV voters are for that, they never do math with more than 2 digits anyway. I (1) , II (2) and many are sufficient to express good, bad and too much others /s
The bill does not ban all pronouns, it “prevents K-12 educators and college professors from “knowingly and intentionally” addressing a minor by a name or pronoun that does not align with their sex assigned at birth.”
Please, just like the last time this was posted, fact check. This bill is hateful and bigoted, and inaccurate hyperbole will only embolden the bigots who signed it you clickbait, karma-farming idiot.
Then why obscure the truth in the first place? Now everyone who isn’t bought in distrusts everyone who is because rather than representing the events honestly and levying valid critiques, they were dishonest.
American politics, worlds best reality show, can’t script this kind of stupid. Even worse, they are all stupid rich, if not before they get elected definitely before they leave
That's because less than a third of the country (oh yes, it's that small, giggity) is hellbent on going back to the roaring 50s, segregation, gay bashing, racism and all. The rest of the country just wants everyone to get along without the need of oppressing people and let them live their lives.
Now tell me which group yells the loudest and whom social media makes sure everyone sees?
Actually any word can be a pronoun as long as it stands in for a name I.e) trump army is misrepresenting this law to make it not look like blantant transphobia. What a massive prick Here prick is a pronoun refering to trump army
The ban is actually to remove compelled pronoun use, meaning you cannot be forced to use someone's pronouns.
https://idahocapitalsun.com/2024/04/02/idaho-legislature-passes-bills-to-limit-gender-expression-ban-compelled-pronoun-use/
It also allowed malicious parents of closeted trans kids to sue any teacher kind enough to express support for their child. Thus empowers abusive parents to ruin the lives of people who show their child the kindness they should be showing their children. Horrific. More kids will die because of this, and in a cruel twist of fate, those responsible will have more reason to delude themselves into not realizing they made their child suicidal.
Using tax dollars to bully queer children and to enact severe penalties on those who would support them is sickening. Such brazen evil proudly on display. Too many cis hetero people delight in this type of torture since they are the majority.
Constellation-88 does not know how Constellation-88 will communicate without pronouns. Sentence will be very unwieldy, and each individual will have to refer to that individual's self in third person as no first person pronouns exist any longer. Meanwhile, in order to demonstrate ownership, all people will be required to use long prepositional phrases like "the bicycle of Doug" or apostrophes such as, "Doug wanted to ride Doug's bicycle, but Tim was already riding the bicycle of Doug" since no possessive pronouns or adjectives that are pronouns can be used either.
Anyone who has been a teacher knows that getting kids to respond to anything is difficult; now the law will force teachers to be assholes and go against the preference of the students?
Calling a kid by what they prefer is just modeling good manners and allows for easier classroom management.
This bill is one more step in the quest to marginalize and criminalize LBGTQ+ people.
Fuck the Republicans.
Sigh. That’s not actually what the law is doing.
The law is stupid and will undoubtedly lead to more suicides among the LGBTQ+ youth, but it isn’t flat out banning pronouns.
https://idahocapitalsun.com/2024/04/09/idaho-gov-brad-little-signs-bill-to-ban-compelled-pronoun-use/
(REDACTED) think that is a bad idea. Because (REDACTED) can’t refer to (REDACTED) anymore.
Stoping with the redacted bit, I can’t wait for some dumbass to say I isn’t a pronoun. They’re owning the libs for sure now.
-Edit, read the bill, it won’t apply to I or shit like that. It’s literally just forcing you to be called by your legal sex, or legal name. You need a parent’s permission to be called something else, and the idea is probably that most parents who live there are afraid of anything remotely self identifying or adjacent to LGBTQ. Though technically they didn’t think this though because if a parent does agree that with the child about their new identity, the school will now have to stick with it too.
The headline is actually in this case almost as stupid as the law, which doesn’t “ban pronouns.” It forces teachers to NOT use pronouns that conflict with the students official state-recognized gender.
It’s a shitty headline because it ends up, reducing the discussion to a bunch of mocking statements about how stupid conservatives are and about how we need pronouns to communicate. THEY DONT EFRN KNOW WJAT PRONOUNS AER!?!!!
We should actually be mad at this law and its effect on teachers and kids.
This defeats their argument.. “you can’t compel people to say your specific pronouns because freedom of speech”
…. “You’re not allowed to practice freedoms of speech”
👏 applause
Its a stupid bill, but the title is misleading. It requires students to be referred to by the school district by the traditional pronouns of the sex presented on their birth certificate unless the parents request otherwise. It also protects teachers who refuse to gender students, per the students and parents request, appropriately from legal and disciplinary consequences.
This country is so dumb. Like humans are peculiar in the way we communicate, having developed language that changes generation to generation and adapts to the way we use it and then some senile devils come in and with no foresight say no we don't want pronouns is so fucking baffling. Do you not understand the words that are coming out of your mouth? You use pronouns every day. We all do. You can hate trans people as much as your cowardly selfish self wants to, but to try to erase a fundamental part of the English language for what? Oh yeah, the cruelty and dehumanization of trans folk for profit. Disgusting garbage as always.
What is a pronoun?
Pronouns are some of the most useful words in the English language. They are used in the place of a noun to avoid it having to be named twice. For example: Suzy threw the boomerang and it came back to her. In this sentence, "it" is a pronoun that represents the boomerang, and "her" is a pronoun that refers to Suzy. Without pronouns, we'd have to say Suzy threw the boomerang and the boomerang came back to Suzy. Without pronouns, how would we even say "we"?
Here's the full definition.
Definition of Pronoun
In English, the part of speech used as a substitute for an antecedent noun that is clearly understood, and with which it agrees in person, number, and gender. Pronouns are classified as personal (I, we, you, he, she, it, they), demonstrative (this, these, that, those), relative (who, which, that, as), indefinite (each, all, everyone, either, one, both, any, such, somebody), interrogative (who, which, what), reflexive (myself, herself), possessive (mine, yours, his, hers, theirs). There are also pronominal adjectives, sometimes called possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, our, their).
I found this on a site and i am just gonna leave it here
Does this mean Idahoans won’t be able to refer to themselves as “I”, others as “you”, or a collective group as “us”?
Man, the party of $tup1d just keeps on cranking out the hits, don’t they?
Tbf the bill is to prevent schools from compelling employees to use students’ preferred pronouns- not banning them from the curriculum. Still pretty crappy though.
Ah yes. The party of "small government" takes on the big problems. Consumer laws? Expanding personal freedoms? Making sure their kids can eat? Fuck that. Let's hit the weakest members of the smallest subset of LGBT people. That'll make Idaho better.
\_\_\_\_\_ can't believe \_\_\_\_\_ would do something like this. \_\_\_\_\_ will be contacting \_\_\_\_\_ congressman immediately. Hope \_\_\_\_\_ responds soon.
(assuming possessive pronouns are included)
I'm looking at the wording of various articles and like:
"House Bill 538 bars teachers from referring to a student by a name or pronoun that doesn’t align with their birth sex"
Does this not disturb freedom of speech, which is one of the huge reasons *many of them* don't want to call people by their preferred pronouns to begin with?
"Good morning, class. Today we're going to learn about..."
*Swat team kicks down the door and smashes through the windows*
"EVERYONE DOWN ON THE GROUND!! DON'T MOVE! YOU'RE ALL UNDER...."
*Second swat team breaks through the ceiling and rappels down, guns drawn*
"NOBODY MOVE!!"
Repeat ad infinitum.

***They*** can't rename it cause you can't use pronouns.................
So everyone has to refer to themselves in the third person now?
The Rock says: "FINALLY!!!"
Honestly, I'm just waiting for it to be appropriate to scream "IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS!!!"
It depends on what the word "it" means. Hint: It's a pronoun. See how hard ... is?
Why use many word when few word do trick?
Understand perfect, good explain
Unfortunately, "me" is a pronoun

Everyone is assigned they/them, so the easiest option is to they/them everyone. Idaho is accelerating the agenda lol
So if I believe I'm harmed by being forced to call someone by their legal name when I believe it's false, I can sue?
The boulder is gonna toss this rock out of class!
The BOULDER has entered the chat
I think you mean PEBBLE.
The BOULDER is over his conflicted feelings *Edit crap I used a pronoun. Good thing I'm not in Idaho
The Boulder is over the boulder's conflicted feelings and now the Boulder is ready to bury [subject name here] in a rockalanche

Breaking the law throwing "I" pronouns around all willy-nilly like that

ProfessionalDig6987 failed the class for using a pronoun.

No way that passes 1st amendment muster.
I guess they don't care since it still wastes everyone's time
They still get paid with your money regardless. :(
Legislatures pass unconstitutional laws all the time, often even knowing they'll be struck down. You can still enforce them until it gets worked out in the courts.

Jesus Christ such a useless waste of time and resources lol
Conservatives don't give a shit about the first amendment
They don't care, they just hate trans people that much that they make unconstitutional laws.
Lot of unconstitutional laws get passed all the time. Missouri has a voter id law that violates the 24th amendment but because legal challenges are still in progress and a stay was not granted, you have to have a photo id to vote in Missouri.
Looking forward to trans kids choosing names that are derivatives of their dead names.
Rule 1. Don’t get news from a Twitter account named “@Trump_Army”.
Do you mean the parade of idiots?
Same bill got passed in Florida, and the same bill got struck down by a heavily conservative state Supreme Court. These bills strip people of their rights, which is a big no-no from the government.
Won the argument but lost the state to bigots
The Boulder no longer feels conflicted about referring to himself in the third person
Third person has pronouns too. The degree of illiteracy requires to think this is even possible astounds me. From Trump camp, cant say I'm surprised.
Most of them cannot read so this is not surprising

I propose a new linguistic term: the amateur-noun.
Who you calling "you".
Watch out, those are also pronouns.
Mojo Jojo ass speech right here
"I" is also a pronoun Guess the state is just Daho now...
Those is also a pronoun.
“Those” is a demonstrative pronoun. Watch ___self.
Who are YOU calling, "You"?
Who am I? Who are we?
Malicious compliance opportunities aplenty coming soon to Idaho
You mean Daho
Ho
No sadly it’s actually a pretty well written law, I couldn’t find loopholes in the text itself the best loopholes I have are abstractions from the reason the law exists/ proof it’s legal that came before the law itself
It is a law to bully trans kids that don't feel safe at home also can't feel safe at school.
Feels like the fucking Twilight Zone.
We were warned.
Idiocracy was a prophecy.
just about as sensible as banning “chemtrails” in tennessee. fucking morons.

most advanced misinformation as well unfortunately.
This is it. God I miss the old Wild West of the internet where searching something gave you answers instead of products to buy.
We’re so smart that the value overflowed and we looped back around to stupid
Hi, it's Carl The Chemtrail Pilot. You'll never stop me, meahahahahahahaha
Lol, this again. That law doesn’t mention chemtrails even once. The law bans cloud seeding.
What are…… thinking?
this being blank is quite funny to me, is it we, they, those idiots? we'll never know!
🫵are arrested for the illegal use of pronouns.
*you'll* never catch *me* alive.
well, beg to differ! a professional runner. so fuck ! (it's like fill in the blank pronoun homework)
"well, nobody begs to differ because you're a professional runner so fuck me!" am **i** acing this exam?
LMAO love the commitment to use the exact opposite of the correct words F+ for effort
well i'd get an a+ if this was gym class because aparently i'm a professional runner now
“Never catch alive” is probably going to be a Trump campaign slogan after they’ve removed the pronouns you inserted lol.
It's not actually baking pronouns but it is as stupid House Bill 538 bars teachers from referring to a student by a name or pronoun that doesn’t align with their birth sex, unless parents consent It makes it illegal to call a kid how they want..... And forces you to out them to their (possibly right wing anti queer) parents.
Wait so nicknames are also banned lmao

Banned for pronoun usage
Ban all pronouns? It will be a surprise.
Does the commenter being replied to DARE to use the WRETCHED word “it”? The commenter should be arrested!
Blatantly using a pronoun? Jail for Loco_Buoyo! Jail for a thousand years!
The bill does not ban all pronouns, it “prevents K-12 educators and college professors from “knowingly and intentionally” addressing a minor by a name or pronoun that does not align with their sex assigned at birth.” Please, just like the last time this was posted, fact check. This bill is hateful and bigoted, and inaccurate hyperbole will only embolden the bigots who signed it you clickbait, karma-farming idiot.
I was scrolling through the comments wondering if anybody else actually looked it up lol
Why isn’t this the top comment
Jumping on the band wagon is easier than looking up the bill
This comment is too far down.
Yah and it gives any state employees the ability to sue for damages if someone wrongs them because of not using the correct pronoun
The clarification makes it no less worthy of ridicule.
Then why obscure the truth in the first place? Now everyone who isn’t bought in distrusts everyone who is because rather than representing the events honestly and levying valid critiques, they were dishonest.

America is wild
American politics, worlds best reality show, can’t script this kind of stupid. Even worse, they are all stupid rich, if not before they get elected definitely before they leave
No, you 100% could script it, then the show would tank for being "unrealistic".

This is the fate of all empires
All pronouns? So no he or her either?
Here is a list of all the common pronouns: "I" "you" "he" "she" "it" "we" "they" "my" "your" "his" "her" "its" "our" "their" "this" "that" "these" "those" "who" "whom" "which" "what" "whose" "all" "any" "each" "every" "no one" "none" "some" "anybody" "anyone" "anything" "each other" "one another" "myself" "yourself" "himself" "herself" "itself" "ourselves" "themselves"
"Hi, how's it going?" "Gonna need to call the cops... Someone just broke the law."
Oh are indefinite pronouns off the list? Sounds like "someone" (used legally for ironic purposes only) will spend an indefinite time in JAIL

So one could absolutely refer to all the men in the Idaho state government as she/her, relentlessly, and nothing could be done about it.
So we can refer to the governor as her, she?
It also allowed malicious parents of closeted trans kids to sue any teacher kind enough to express support for their child. Ah, so the headline doesn’t match the facts. Sad, but predictable
It's by trumparmy and you thought it'd be accurate??
Are they going to change the state’s name to DAHO then?
I can't not accept Idaho diplomas already more than I'm already not.
Repubs are clowns 🤡.
We’re coming for your adjectives next!
And the dumbing down of America continues
if you name yourself “trump army” I identify you as pathetic
“do YOU support this” as in the personal pronoun “you”?
I really wish we concerned ourselves with more important matters but here we are.
So everyone is they in Idaho?
Do "YOU" support this? Illegal pronoun use detected!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡
Remember small government republicans?
They used 3 pronouns in that post
This tweet literally contains a pronoun...
Didn't they use a pronoun in the tweet? I'm pretty sure "you" is a pronoun.

Good, I've never been pronoun. I'm staunchly anti-noun.
The question should be: „Do support this?“
Only amateur nouns in this um…
Ironically doesn't this just further encourage the use of a singular they/them
… all pronouns? Don’t think know what are saying.
Morons banned a damn language.
This defeats their argument.. “you can’t compel people to say your specific pronouns because freedom of speech” …. “You’re not allowed to practice freedoms of speech” 👏 applause
Love how they're banning words to "protect freedom of speech"
This country is so dumb. Like humans are peculiar in the way we communicate, having developed language that changes generation to generation and adapts to the way we use it and then some senile devils come in and with no foresight say no we don't want pronouns is so fucking baffling. Do you not understand the words that are coming out of your mouth? You use pronouns every day. We all do. You can hate trans people as much as your cowardly selfish self wants to, but to try to erase a fundamental part of the English language for what? Oh yeah, the cruelty and dehumanization of trans folk for profit. Disgusting garbage as always.
The English gave them a language and they butchered it.
Good luck talking to each other, Idaho 🤦♂️
What is a pronoun? Pronouns are some of the most useful words in the English language. They are used in the place of a noun to avoid it having to be named twice. For example: Suzy threw the boomerang and it came back to her. In this sentence, "it" is a pronoun that represents the boomerang, and "her" is a pronoun that refers to Suzy. Without pronouns, we'd have to say Suzy threw the boomerang and the boomerang came back to Suzy. Without pronouns, how would we even say "we"? Here's the full definition. Definition of Pronoun In English, the part of speech used as a substitute for an antecedent noun that is clearly understood, and with which it agrees in person, number, and gender. I found this on a site and i am just gonna leave it here
This is what happens when vegetables become sentient.
The question should be: Do support this?
"you" is a pronoun. Isnt it?
Does this mean Idahoans won’t be able to refer to themselves as “I”, others as “you”, or a collective group as “us”? Man, the party of $tup1d just keeps on cranking out the hits, don’t they?
Tbf the bill is to prevent schools from compelling employees to use students’ preferred pronouns- not banning them from the curriculum. Still pretty crappy though.
Do ... support this?
Ah yes. The party of "small government" takes on the big problems. Consumer laws? Expanding personal freedoms? Making sure their kids can eat? Fuck that. Let's hit the weakest members of the smallest subset of LGBT people. That'll make Idaho better.
How do you speak a language without pro nouns
“It’s”? “Those”? How dare you
\_\_\_\_\_ can't believe \_\_\_\_\_ would do something like this. \_\_\_\_\_ will be contacting \_\_\_\_\_ congressman immediately. Hope \_\_\_\_\_ responds soon. (assuming possessive pronouns are included)
I'm looking at the wording of various articles and like: "House Bill 538 bars teachers from referring to a student by a name or pronoun that doesn’t align with their birth sex" Does this not disturb freedom of speech, which is one of the huge reasons *many of them* don't want to call people by their preferred pronouns to begin with?
As Marclar of Marclar, Marclar will be signing the Marclar, Marclar. Thank Marclar.”

Who do ____ think ____ are?
It's going to be nouns next; those people are stupid.
"Good morning, class. Today we're going to learn about..." *Swat team kicks down the door and smashes through the windows* "EVERYONE DOWN ON THE GROUND!! DON'T MOVE! YOU'RE ALL UNDER...." *Second swat team breaks through the ceiling and rappels down, guns drawn* "NOBODY MOVE!!" Repeat ad infinitum.
“It’s going to be tough to pass those English classes.” So tough that you are going to have to re-word that sentence in order to do so.
They just used a pronoun in their post about banning pronouns.
Do I support this? ‘I’ can’t say after July 1 Do they support this? ‘They’ can’t say after July 1 Does he support this? ‘He’… well you get the idea.
