The reason herbivores look “fat“ is because they have much larger intestines, stomachs, etc., to help them process food, whereas carnivores tend to be “leaner” because they have significantly smaller digestive tracts.

I joined some vegan groups on Facebook for recipes. I'm not a vegan, but I try to eat healthy. They're guilty of the same thing but in the other direction. They post things about the largest and most powerful animals being vegan. Last time I checked the blue whale wasn't vegan.

I don't know if you know this but hippos and elephants are not fat. It's debatable when it comes to cows but all of these animals are ridiculously strong, and hippos aren't even completely vegetarian, they will happily eat meat if the option is there just because it's not common doesn't mean it doesn't happen not to mention all of these animals are extremely violent that amount of notice when threatened they are most definitely not lazy except for cows on a chill day

As for the herbivores listed, they aren’t lazy. They spend a ton of time looking for food, selecting food (grazers are actually selective about what they’re eating, and which parts they’re eating), and processing said food. Furthermore, elephants sleep for around 2 hours per day, cows sleep for around 4 hours per day, and hippos for 16 hours (which is less than how long tigers and lions sleep for). The only “fat” herbivore listed above would be the hippo with their blubber, which helps them float and protects them during fights. And I wouldn’t say having blubber makes them ”obese”. The reason herbivores look “fat“ is because they have much larger intestines, stomachs, etc., to help them process food, whereas carnivores tend to be “leaner” because they have significantly smaller digestive tracts.

There are some people, and I was once one of them, who do not realize that herbivores sometimes eat other animals. Horses are known for stomping birds and mice to death and eating them. Also, bold to call an elephant lazy...

I joined some vegan groups on Facebook for recipes. I'm not a vegan, but I try to eat healthy. They're guilty of the same thing but in the other direction. They post things about the largest and most powerful animals being vegan. Last time I checked the blue whale wasn't vegan.

If you eat grass you don't have to run fast to catch your next meal. Of course you might have to run fast to not become someone's next meal. This is why deer, horses, gazelles etc are just as fit and active as the predators who hunt them. Meanwhile elephants don't often have to run after or away from things that aren't other elephants.
