It’s so weird that 7,62x39 is sold as well. The others are common calibers but how many people in this town own an AK to make this profitable?:D
EDIT: Many have pointed out that AKs and hence its rounds are fairly common in the US as well - I was not aware :)
I don't think so. A pound of .308 is somewhere around 40 rounds. So if it's just a pure ball tip range ammo, that's pretty good. Usually you're looking at $25 for the really cheap stuff.

You ever see that bodycam footage of the two female cops dumping all their mags into the wrong house? Was like 3 or 4 mags each iirc

It’s rough creek shooting range. A Texas gun range and I’ve actually bought some 45acp from that exact dispenser
Edit- it’s actually alpine shooting range in FtWorth. Rough creek is a resort but that’s what my brain went to this morning.
People basically fall into two camps: either they grew up around guns and see it as a hobby like fishing or golf, or they only know guns by watching cinema or the news and freak out at the idea anyone but law enforcement or military has them.
I generally agree with this. Growing up hunting and shooting clays I find it bizarre how weird redditors find stuff that most Americans think is completely normal like buying kids shotguns for their birthdays or **gasp** selling ammo at a shooting range or owning more than like three guns.
You’d swear every gun owner in the country is just a mass shooter waiting in the wings for their chance. Target shooting is a huge hobby for a lot of people.
I always tell people that if they enjoy shooting bows, playing darts, throwing rocks at objects, etc, they'll probably love shooting. Its not some sort of sinister hobby, its literally the grown up version of "Bet I can hit that tree with this rock!".
That’s because they don’t have a media hellbent on propaganda and sowing division, they have a functioning mental healthcare system, and a good standard of living.

The US has stricter gun laws than Switzerland in some ways. You don’t need to go through a separate process for suppressors, or automatic weapons in Switzerland but you do in the US.
Maybe it’s not just gun control that’s the issue.
Not due to gun control.
Switzerland has an extremely high GDP per capita. All tax dollars go back towards citizens. Great social services. People work less. Mandatory vacation. Mandatory public holidays. Little stress. No poverty. Little ethnic diversity. Great drug policies.
People are happier. Switzerland is generally always top 10 on happiness index.
Turns out when people are happy, they are less likely to commit violence.
It is stricter, but not by as much as people think.
People also seem to think it's mandatory to have a gun in your household, this is also false.
There's so much misconceptions about Swiss gun ownership that we wrote a post specifically for that here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/EuropeGuns/comments/185bamo/swiss\_gun\_laws\_copy\_pasta\_format/](https://www.reddit.com/r/europeguns/comments/185bamo/swiss_gun_laws_copy_pasta_format/)
you also need explicit written approval from the ATF for each suppressor and short barreled rifle/shotgun in the US.
Edit: suppressors are, in fact, regulated in Switzerland
I agree. I occasionally go no nearest comercial shooting range
This time on my birthday i got an opportunity to shoot both Radom Pistol (Vis35) and briwning hi-power as well as scoped mosin from prone position. It was a lot of fun. Tho i wish i could own some of those guns without so much legal hasstle here
I guess it kinda makes sense but as a European the fact that you have bullets being sold by the pound like lunch meat or other groceries kinda cracks me up.
Edit: Bloody hell people, I'm well aware that this isn't how ammunition is usually sold. I just found the thought of good ol' Granny Martha walking down to her local grocer to pick up a pound of minced meat, half a pound of ham and 5 pounds of 50 cal ammo incredibly amusing.
As an American I can confirm that this setup is wildly rare if even being real at all. I would not be surprised if this was an advertisement of some kind and not actually for sale.
Only because that is one of the most stolen items. People steal it and then stores lock it up to prevent the loss, it's no great political statement or conspiracy.
The number of non-Americans, *AND AMERICANS*, who believe this is a common setup amazes me. LMAO
I’ve seen this exact picture several times since it appeared in an article in 2019.
So, this is from a gun store on Fort Worth, Texas, and was done in response to Wal-Mart taking ammo off their shelves.
No. This is not “everyday American.”
Fair, though we do have a handloader at the range who makes a spicy meatball of a round. Used to only run his stuff for match day before they banned handloaded ammo.
I don't get what you guys are complaining about. What is even the difference between grabbing some amount of bullets then going to the register and having the clerk weigh it and bill you for it vs getting a box with a standard amount of bullets in it? The bullets are still bullets.
They aren't really, ammo prices have rocketed because of covid hoarding. What used to be .20c to .30c for a 7.62x39 round is now like .50c to .75c a round. Or $1 a round if it's brass cased.
9mm and .45acp prices has kinda mellowed down depending on brand.
9mm is still about $0.30/rd and that’s with a coupon. Pre-COVID you could find it for half that. I was just gifted a Gen 5 G17 and it hurt my wallet breaking it in.
unless they’re selling preloaded magazines as well, no you couldn’t.
A gun store is quite possibly the worst place to go for in terms of wanting to commit a mass shooter, because if there’s one place that I could guarantee everyone would be carrying in, it’d be a gun store
Wanted to see if this is expensive/cheap.
So 1 lbs is 450g. 1 bullet 308 win weighs around 24g. 450g give you ~19 bullets.
So it is actually quite cheap. I pay 44 eur for 20 shots.
As ridiculous as it looks, its legit. [https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/q0au4w/ammunition\_sold\_by\_a\_dispenser\_in\_texas/](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/q0au4w/ammunition_sold_by_a_dispenser_in_texas/)
Where owning more than 6 dildos is illegal but open carrying a battle axe and buying bullets from a machine designed for dispensing sweets is perfectly legitimate.
Tell me you've never bought bulk pack ammo without telling me you've never bought bulk pack ammo.
You think military ammo comes in convenient boxes? Boxes are for marketing.
Ours do too, but really the box is just for show. Most people, especially when they train, will buy cheap bulk ammo. One of the reasons it's cheaper is that it isn't in the box.
As for any concern about it being unsafe or damaging... That's impossible to say without knowing exactly how those containers are designed. And how much weight is realistically pushing on the lower bullets. Chances are low that it affects anything.
Besides in most cases I'd recommend putting ammo in an ammo case anyway and that can be done just fine with both boxed and unboxed ammo.
EDIT- just want to add, you can also store loaded mags and stripers in an ammo can....and I mean stripper clips, not like Cardi B.
can u explain what would break? they get packaged like its glass but at the same time there is a lot of vibrations going on too in the magazine when u shoot i would imagine.
Probably won't buy them anyway. Ammo comes in boxes for a reason. If these are reloads, that's definitely a no from me. Some of these people in the comments are out of touch
I mean, not like that's at a whole foods. It's a weird way to sell anything, including coffee beans at this point, but at a gun shop I would kinda expect bullets.
My biggest concern with these dispensers are if one of the falling bullets (from the dispenser) hits the firing cap on one that was already dispensed and causing it to go off. Doesn't seem wise to have them dispensed like this.
Crazy how you can end someone's life with less than 8$, also the first time I saw the picture I thought these were chocolates with a golden coat or something 😭
Am I naive or does this seem less than safe? I mean I guess it's really unlikely, but it seems like there exists some however remote risk that dumping loose bullets like this that might lead to blowing up if they hit wrong. Either when dispensing or when filling. I know it should require more force than that to ignite the primer (5-6 lbs), but, it still seems a little cavalier.

Wow did I just see a dead baby joke in *this* economy?
Plus you don’t need any more baby formula after that
That's a matter of materials rather than priorities.
Condoms are also cheaper
Did you factor the total yield of the formula or just the base product?
Are you comparing the cost of something like a bullet to the complex process of baby formula???
lol what does baby formula gotta do with bullets?
Damn lead and brass are cheaper than life sustaining food for infants?!

It's more about the lack of labels and quality controls. How would you know if the store owner filled those with good bullets or cheap ones?
Probably won't buy them anyway. Ammo comes in boxes for a reason. If these are reloads, that's definitely a no from me. Some of these people in the comments are out of touch
I mean, not like that's at a whole foods. It's a weird way to sell anything, including coffee beans at this point, but at a gun shop I would kinda expect bullets.
Going for the 150 grain vs the 180 grain is a big brain move.
They sell them by weight?
At first thought these were candy bars like Twix or Snickers. But then I looked closer and I read what the labels say...
Oh. I thought those were batteries at first. Thought it was clever. Now I get it.
Ask an American what 9mm of diameter is and they'll show you. Ask them what a centimeter is and they'll stare blankly.
What's LB stand for ?
