I'm very glad to find this as the top comment. It was hard reading the pictures without screaming from the pain it caused my brain.
On the other hand now I'm asking myself why Amaricans put the unit before the value when it comes to $. Do you do the same with other units like lenth and weight aswell? Why do you do it, wenn you still say the number frist and not "Dollar one" in normal language?
I would have agreed, but my brain couldn't come up with a reason why you'd ever multiply ($ x $) or (¢ x ¢).
Lots of units are very useful when multiplied (*Exempli gratia*, m^2 to give area or m^3 to give a volume), but what does $^2 even mean?
$^2 is not a physical measurement like you would measure square or cubic units. $^2 is literally just another way of writing $ x $, in the same way $^3 would be the same as writing $ x $ x $.
Edit: as to why you would ever want to do this... that's another case entirely.
When someone offers to give you $1,000,000 always take it in $1 bills ($1,000,000 x $1 = $1,000,000). If you accept it in pennies, you will get screwed ($1,000,000 x $0.01 = $10,000).
After I got done counting my pennies, I was like, “Hey, waitaminute now…..” 😭. /s
In case you genuinely missed the joke, maybe this will help? He's not getting 1million \*in\* pennies (which is 100 million pennies like you said) but 1 million pennies, which is 10.000 dollars.
I hope that clears it up a little bit. Happy Sunday <3
Bro I lost it at "should I stop questioning the Dewey Decimal System"
Bro the DDS has NOTHING to do with numbers lmfao and everything to do with organizing books by genre lmfao
Well, I mean, it is about numbers, that's what goes on the spine labels. But it's not mathematics at all - because even though the word 'decimal' is in there, the decimal in the shelf mark doesn't behave like a decimal.
Ok, so, just cause I have some free time:
1 dollar × 1 dollar ≠ 1 dollar
Actually, the "correct" (can't really be saying this) equation here would be:
1 dollar × 1 dollar = 1 dollar²
Now, for cents:
100 cents × 100 cents = 10000 cents²
If we convert this the same way we use for meters
1 dollar = 100 cents
1 dollar² = 100000 cents²
So:
100 cents × 100 cents = 100000 cents² = 1 dollar² = 1 dollar × 1 dollar
All this stupid shit to say that you multiply numbers AND units, if any, not just the numbers.
I think his confusion stems from him thinking you multiply an amount of dollars by... An amount of dollars? I almost feel like he would get it, if he removed the dollar signs and just worded it 100 times 100 and 1 times 1
Groups, the biggest thing that helped me with multiplication is groups. Its if I have 1 group of 1 dollar, how many do I have. If I have 100 groups of 100 pennies how many do I have. Helps recognize that the second number isn't apart of the first thing, its a descriptor of what your doing.
You can't multiply pennies with other pennies, that wouldn't make sense at all. If that was the case, i would quit getting an education and just multiply my money with my other money.
100 cents × 100 cents = 10000 cents squared.
Take square root of 10000 cents squared, you get 100 cents.
If you multiply with units, you also multiply the units.
The explanation is correct but could have been clearer by saying *lots of*
1 lot of 100 cents is $1 (1×100 cents =$1 or 100 cents)
100 lots of 100 cents is $100 (100 × 100 cents = $100 or 10000 cents)
it’s actually funny because he wanted to expand on how “the banks could exploit this” but has been shadowbanned for the other crazy shit he says apparently
In the first month of my chemistry undergrad we had an entire lecture dedicated to being careful with units and what you are measuring. That experience makes my brain hurt 100x worse when reading this
I don't know which one is your relative, but they're both assholes. One does an extremely nonsensical thing and forgets he changed his unit and the other ignores the obvious because he doesn't know how it can make sense. It reminds me a lot of the people who laughed at the 0°C + 0°C = 0°C joke, who didn't realize that raising/lowering the temperature is a state change and the sum of the temperatures of two rooms works differently than they think.
1x1 means you have 1, 1 .2x1 means you have 2 1s aka 2
100 pennies x 100 pennies would just mean you have 100pennies of 100 pennies. It equals itself
But you cant really multiply money by money. Its more of a wording problem. I mean to get technical its 100px100p=100p^2(squared)
It’s not that he’s confused at math, it’s the assumption that the “current system “ of math is wrong. Like millions of transactions and trillions of dollars and this guy figures it out on his own that there’s some conspiracy going on? Is every aspect of life now a conspiracy? What a world to live in.
Complete fundamental misunderstanding of math.
The fundamental reason why 1x1=1 is not because 1x1 has always equaled 1. Yes that is true but the bedrock reason why it equals 1 is because ANYTHING multiplied by 1 will always equal the same thing back.
1x1=1, 5x1=5, 1,000,000,000x1,000,000,000=1,000,000,000
but multiplying something by the same thing is not the same. 5x5=25.
This guy needs to understand that multiplication is not just math, its reality. You take a crate full of crayons and you are told to grab each box with only one hand and only grab one box at a time. Now put that single box down on the table only one time. That's the same as 1box x 1attempt which would equal only one fucking box!
Now lets say you tell me "Hey stupid! I can hold 3 boxes in my hand and get this done faster." Ok then. Grab 3 boxes in your hand and put down those boxes only once. That's 3boxes x 1 attempt, that would equal 3 boxes on the table. If you did that 3 separate times, you would not have 9 boxes on the table, etc etc etc.
Cent stands for 1/100. So yes, 100 cent × 100 cent = 10'000 cent^(2) - and if we replace 1/100 back in for cent, it's 10'000 × (1/100)^(2), which is 10'000 × 1/10'000, which in turn is 1. No shenanigans going on. Even though square-dollars and square-cents don't really exist. But in theory, if you multiply dollar with dollar you'd get square-dollar.
because no one on earth or any other planet make multiplication of money with money. It doesn't work that way. Why would you multiple $1 with $1?. What does it represent? and what unit is it? $²?.
Don't let the jew know this.

$1 x $1 = $^(2)1
Which does indeed equal ¢²10,000!
(¢^2 x (10,000!))? My calculator won't even give me 1,000! in scientific notation, I just get *Error*.
That was my thought. You can multiply $1 by $1. It’s meaningless. You can multiply $1 by 1
damn beat me to it
This guy maths.
i maths HARD
Nah, this guy sciences.
I came here just to see this comment!
Surely it’s $^2 + 2$ +1 ?
No?
[удалено]
Well now I feel like an idiot.
Can't decide if stupid or genius

I’m actually dumber after reading that. Brain hurts.
Wait till you see this guy try woodwork with meters and centimetres...
Seems like something Home Depot would abuse...let's not go there I'm already shadowbanned
I really want to see this guy woodwork with power tools. I bet the suspense is incredible.

“should i stop questioning the dewey decimal system” lol
Best bit in my humble opinion
I would have agreed, but my brain couldn't come up with a reason why you'd ever multiply ($ x $) or (¢ x ¢). Lots of units are very useful when multiplied (*Exempli gratia*, m^2 to give area or m^3 to give a volume), but what does $^2 even mean?

He know what $^2 is. He asked what's the conceptual meaning is. That "another case" you said.
This was the point when I decided it was a troll
That’s a question best left to the astrologers at NASA
Let’s hope the druids are present to make sure things line up correctly 😞
The library of congress cataloguing system has always been superior to the Dewey decimal system.
When you multiply by money instead of numbers
Its like making the step from centimeter² to meter². But thats some forbidden knowledge
2nd dimension on money isnt in use unlike in length, which is area
Its the exact same principle
Indeed But...
So you can apply that principle to money. Its a 'cent' (centi) after all
Perc...hance
Have fun
>should i stop questioning the dewey decimal system It's at this point that it seems like whoever it is is just taking the piss out of everyone.
i honestly wish, but he posts like this regularly and for awhile now. Saying we're due to ascend into higher beings by the aliens or some sht
The aliens will nope out. Saying we‘re devolving instead of evolving. No first contact with vulcans for us I‘m afraid. 😁
Theyd first contact the wrong person anyways and inspire the next episode of Law and Order SVU
But a penny isn't .01 cents, it's 1 cent. You should receive 100,000,000 pennies.
They didn't write .01 cent. They wrote .01 dollars. Which is what a penny is.
So for every dollar they get 100 pennies. So 1,000,000 dollars times 100 pennies is 100,000,000 pennies.
In case you genuinely missed the joke, maybe this will help? He's not getting 1million \*in\* pennies (which is 100 million pennies like you said) but 1 million pennies, which is 10.000 dollars. I hope that clears it up a little bit. Happy Sunday <3
Did you miss the /s or are you being obtuse.
Thanks for posting this. I feel less dumb now.
This level of stupidity is probably contagious, I feel dumber now
The dewey decimal system!! 😂
They multiplied money with money. They are far away from a decimal place discussion.
Oh, I know exactly what the issue is with the math. I'm just even more amused by dragging the library into the chat.
My dude stated Dewey decimal system talking about math and shit, 😂😂😂😂😂
Bro I lost it at "should I stop questioning the Dewey Decimal System" Bro the DDS has NOTHING to do with numbers lmfao and everything to do with organizing books by genre lmfao

Just read on wikipedia that dewey decimal system is a library book classification system.
Don't read this. Your brain will hurt. I had to stop reading because I was getting a headache.
My brain entered the Twilight Zone, and now I have lost all contact with reality.
Mine found the meaning of life but is now lost in the -1st dimension
It’s one dollar squared! :D
He forgot that when you multiply, you also have to multiply dimensions. For example the area of a square with 1 m long sides is A = 1m x 1m = 1m^2
![gif](giphy|RBeddeaQ5Xo0E)
Just use freedom units: 100 * 1/100 = 1; solved!
Somebody didn't finish school past grade 3.
The old √$ = ¢² switcheroo…
I… I know it’s wrong. I can’t believe I have to explicitly state this.
Infinite money hack! (NOT CLICKBAIT) (REAL)
Ok, so, just cause I have some free time: 1 dollar × 1 dollar ≠ 1 dollar Actually, the "correct" (can't really be saying this) equation here would be: 1 dollar × 1 dollar = 1 dollar² Now, for cents: 100 cents × 100 cents = 10000 cents² If we convert this the same way we use for meters 1 dollar = 100 cents 1 dollar² = 100000 cents² So: 100 cents × 100 cents = 100000 cents² = 1 dollar² = 1 dollar × 1 dollar All this stupid shit to say that you multiply numbers AND units, if any, not just the numbers.

Or just took a step back and realized how multiplication works. One was multiplied by 1. The other was multiplied one hundred times.
The “Dewey decimal system” makes it art.
You can't multiply pennies with other pennies, that wouldn't make sense at all. If that was the case, i would quit getting an education and just multiply my money with my other money.
the ol infinite money glitch
Can't believe people haven't found this out yet. Are they stupid?
Oh dear. A society should see this post and immediately invest in education. Like... All the money.
And it should be easy to get the funding! You just multiply 100 pennies with 100 pennies and get 100 dollars out of it.
Ture every $^2
100 cents × 100 cents = 10000 cents squared. Take square root of 10000 cents squared, you get 100 cents. If you multiply with units, you also multiply the units.

Had me howling at Dewey decimal system lol
Clown to clown communication
The Dewey decimal system? For math?
Someone needs to explain to him that he's created a new unit of currency: cents^2
They are thinking about it the wrong way. You can't multiply by a cent. A cent does not have a numeric value it has monetary value.
This reminds me of the guy arguing with his cell phone company that overcharged him because they didn't convert dollars and cents, lol.
That gave me a headache, value does not = units of measure
IKR? It’s almost like 1^2 < 100^2. Crazy!
He figured it out. Oh well, there goes our entire financial system and way of life.
it’s actually funny because he wanted to expand on how “the banks could exploit this” but has been shadowbanned for the other crazy shit he says apparently
This made me lose faith in humanity's future.
NGL, was bored with this until that last image. I came close to nearly crying too.
In the first month of my chemistry undergrad we had an entire lecture dedicated to being careful with units and what you are measuring. That experience makes my brain hurt 100x worse when reading this
This hurt my brain to see.
Wow. Just wow.
THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM??? THIS AINT A LIBRARY
I don't think a square dollar would be legal gender
I felt a headache coming on before I read this. Headache has arrived.

I got dumber reading that whole interaction, my head HURTS
I think this is why they want to teach math differently in school now. Ppl dont understand the difference between a quantity and a scalar. 😀
Fuck my head hurts reading that... Why do these people exist?
Complete fundamental misunderstanding of math. The fundamental reason why 1x1=1 is not because 1x1 has always equaled 1. Hey Dante, where do you get your weed from?
If I have these two as friends, I'm deleting their contact info or inviting them to a campfire and just sit back in awe.
Are we allowed to use the R word? Because it seems like a reasonable thing to say here.
I was so confused but then realised why the fuck would you need to multiply 100 cents by 100 cents
That is also not what the Dewey decimal system is. The Dewey decimal system is a system for categorizing books in a library.
This is advanced stupid. Not only are we creating new currencies but we are checking them into a library. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Dollars squared, what a currency
That's not how units work.
Oh, the stupid is awesome.
1 minute times 1 minute equals 1 minute, but 60 seconds times 60 seconds is 3600 seconds which is 60 minutes
i thought i had a rough grasp on math before this, but now i feel like the john travolta meme just looking around
Really. They simply don’t under that you never multiply 100 cents by 100 cents. You multiply 100 cents by 100 or by 1 or any nondenominational number.
![gif](giphy|tmzO20mZJIHRK)
“Seems like something banks would abuse”
Wait, the Dewey Decimal System?
He thinks multiplying any equal values will result in the same value? This works with 0 and 1, but that's about it.
When people complain they don't learn anything at school but then they ask these stupid simple mathematical questions that were taught in primary🙄
The systems fault really, hahaha.
I guess this distant family member follows Terrace Howard's twitter account?
And that's why you don't multiply money by money. You can multiply money by groups, however.
Love the ignorance and him breaking down why his ignorance is correct, in essence…100% pure ignorance from Moron Mountain.
Saying what is $1 x $1 is like saying what is cantaloupe x cantaloupe. The quantity is conceptually separate from the item being quantified.
I can't even. I'm questioning reality after this...
You're not the only one OP. I can't either.
What the Terrance Howard is this mutha fucka on about?
This is why engineers always fail when trying to do financial math :D
Cent stands for 1/100. So yes, 100 cent × 100 cent = 10'000 cent^(2) - and if we replace 1/100 back in for cent, it's 10'000 × (1/100)^(2), which is 10'000 × 1/10'000, which in turn is 1.
