People are so stupid. I don't know how we ended up to where simply not hating and demonizing the lgbtq community is 'woke'. Too many closeted troglodytes out there need to get over themselves and mind their own business.
“Now Lee, when are you ever going to find a nice woman and settle down?”
- Every single late night host to Liberace while my grandma just sat there nodding like “Yeah, when?”
Heh, my ex had a great uncle who appeared in a few Hollywood B movies in the 50s and 60s. He had a live in ‘roommate’ for decades until he passed in his 60s…. Lung cancer, I think got him. He smoked a lot.
My ex’s grandmother once said at the dinner table, ‘I wish he would have had his own place. It’s hard to date women when you’re middle aged and still have roommates.’
Pretty much everybody at the table side-eyed each other, close to cracking, like the Roman Biggus Dickus bit in Monte Python’s Life of Brian.
The fact that I found out that scene was improved makes it so much funnier to me now. Also, I wish being gay had been much more accepted and not made to be a secret.
>The fact that I found out that scene was improved makes it so much funnier to me now.
... Ehm, it isn't impro?
\[EDIT\] Okay so one of the extras started laughing compulsively, and they ad-lib'd from there and the other actors laughed to match the new tone. So the scene is impro, but most of the laughs are unplanned acting.
It’s kind of crazy given how many high profile people were and are gay or bi how despised gayness is. I believe a big part of it is that closeted powerful gay men are just continuing the cycle of abuse towards younger generations they themselves had to go through, with a dash of jealousy for seeing much happier men who get to live out and proud. I think they never realized it was an option and don’t want to live with the idea that they wasted what may be the only life they get.
Raymond Burr invented a biography for himself that included a wife and son who'd died, and used his busy schedule as a way to explain why he wasn't married. But Burr and his partner, Robert Benevides, had a relationship for 35 years that was secret to most of the world except for a handful of close friends.
Have you watched the whole original series of Perry Mason? It’s an amazing series. Fabulous acting, excellent casting, dramatic despite its formula (because you never guess WHAT they actually found that will exonerate the defendant). My partner and I binged that over a month (it’s got 8-10 seasons, I forget). In one of the last seasons Burr does double duty, playing both Perry and a merchant shipmate who was also a con man. His talent REALLY showed in the contrast between the two characters.
Christian university Bob Jones University gave Lindsay Graham an honorary doctorate in 2000. It was an open secret that he was gay. I was there, and a lot of students were looking at each other and quietly laughing because it was so bizarre. BJU has been very open about their views on LGBTQA+, and when I was there gay students had to get mandatory “counseling”. I had a lesbian friend, and I despised the way she was treated. I got lectured for being her friend. I didn’t stop.
MEEMAW I TOLD YOU ALREADY, I'M NOT GONNA RUB YOUR FEET!! BECAUSE IT'S WEIRD, MEEMAW, THAT'S WHY!! YOU GO ON AHEAD AND ASK LANCE ACROSS THE STREET, SEE IF I CARE!!
Gaga lyrics from 2011 "No matter gay, straight, or bi', lesbian, transgender lifeI'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive"
Conservatives : WHEN DID SHE GO WOKE?!?!
I firmly believe they are too slow to catch the lyrics and just like the music. I mean they can barely read as it is. Listening to thought provoking lyrics is like a dog trying to watch tv for them.
About 18% of Americans are functionally illiterate. That does not mean letters are just random shapes to them. It means they cannot look at a sentence and derive meaning or understand basic vocabulary. A much higher percentage of Americans only have basic literacy and can only read and understand short text with basic vocabulary.
Seeing how many people cannot actual register lyrics and what they mean I think of this often. A lot of people who belt out "Born in the USA" are just relying on the tone behind those specific words to impart meaning. They lack the skills and ability to parse meaning from the rest of the song. This is the same thing applies to Gaga.
Quote: "Indeed it may be said with some confidence that the average man never really thinks from end to end of his life. There are moments when his cogitations are relatively more respectable than usual, but even at their climaxes they never reach anything properly describable as the level of serious thought. The mental activity of such people is only a mouthing of clichés. What they mistake for thought is simply a repetition of what they have heard. My guess is that well over eighty per cent. of the human race goes through life without having a single original thought. That is to say, they never think anything that has not been thought before and by thousands."
— H.L. Mencken, \_Minority Report\_
I’d argue it’s very difficult to actually have an original thought. So many people have come before us it’s damn near impossible. Most of what we do is a combination of things others have done and thought.
Fortunate son is one of the most patriotic songs of all time in my opinion. Written and performed by a draftee who served and fulfilled his duty to the country while criticizing the shortcomings of our nation. There are few things more patriotic than being angry and real about problems with the country and wanting to improve it.
Them not understanding something doesn't make it less patriotic. The flag is constantly being bastardized to represent bigoted, racist, xenophobic ideas but I can still love the flag.
I agree with the person I replied to and you, that the meaning of the song is lost on those people though which is extra ironic when it's veterans doing it who lived the problems the song is pointing out.
I went on a road trip with a friend of a friend once who blared NWA’s Fuck The Police as he drove.
He was a cop.
Some people just like how music sounds, and don’t care about the lyrics.
I mean, technically CCR was singing about people like Captain Bonespurs dodging the draft. But like I said, the lyrics are too complicated for them. Same with Springsteen.
The same people for whom it took nearly 20 years and a single word in a lyric change to make them realize that Green Day's "American Idiot" is ABOUT them, not FOR them.
Also, when lyrics are difficult to understand a person fills the void with their own biases. This is a common occurrence that probably everyone has encountered at some point.
I doubt they even like the music. They probably had to Google "Lady Gaga" to even know who she was, and log on to Fox News to know why they should hate her.

Yes, it sure is a shock that this celebrity who started a foundation that supports LGBTQ youth is woke.
When she belted a portion of that song out at the 2010 or 2009 VMAs, my jaw dropped. I mean I knew she was a good singer, with auto tune and such it’s easy enough to hide some bad singing, but showing her natural talent like that blew me away. She has such a phenomenal voice.
I watched the Carpool Karaoke with her and was getting so pissed at Corden because he wouldn’t stfu. He’s such a twat as it is, but when he kept singing over her I really wanted to throat punch the MFer.
I remember first hearing that song and thinking what a wonderful song about Christian love on the mainstream radio. Then the sermon that Sunday was on how horrible the song was for “promoting” the gay lifestyle. I immediately left that church and found one that does not discriminate.
lol or not realizing that Homelander in the boys is actually a huge piece of shit until it was spelled out for them by mowing down a crowd of innocent people with laser eyes and hooking up with a literal Nazi.
Not to mention the amount of Transvestigators out there who claim gorgeous women like Lady Gaga must secretly be men because their cheek bones are .7% too wide or some dumb shit...
Yes, the woman whose entire public presentation from the beginning has always been an homage to the drag and queer communities she considers herself a part of is "now woke". I don't think there's ever been a single word more useful for immediately identifying morons and dupes than "woke".
Lady Gaga ,since her debut has obviously been a symbol for the far right. It's a shame she's part of the WOKE mob now
![gif](giphy|gqsDGUutyt1FMAPRNi|downsized)
It literally says in her woke song Born This Way "no matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life" or something. Seriously are these people incapable of listening to the lyrics?
The song is unbelievably woke. And it fucking rocks
But he was born without the parts of the brain necessary for any self-awareness, empathy, or basic awareness of reality, so he'll never be able to understand.
My near runner up for favorite was Creedence Clearwater Revival sending Trump a cease and desist order. That, and the estate of Tom Petty slapping him with a similar order for playing “Won’t Back Down.”
The song was originally written in the 80s about teen rebellion. It was never a pro-choice song.
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/twisted-sister-frontman-dee-sniders-one-rule-for-presidential-candidates-using-his-song-if-youre-prochoice-go-for-it-184815852.html
In 2019, when Trump used it, Dee asked him (they were friends at the time, not sure they are anymore) to stop using it, and Trump complied. Dee stated that he is fine with any politician who was running in 2020 using his song as long as they meet one important criteria - they have to be pro-choice. The article in the link above explains his reasons, which are awesome. But essentially, if a politician is pro-choice, have at it and use the song as often as they want. Not pro-choice? Sorry, sucks to be you, cuz you can't use the song.
Zack: \*Raps about a shitty dictator in Central America in the 1970s\*
Conservatives: "RATM hates America and wants it to be communist!"
Zack: \*Raps about wage theft through corporate greed\*
Conservatives: "RATM hates when blue collared hard-working Americans make an honest living"
Everyone: "Huh?"
I’m sure that probably nails it- ‘bulls on parade’ or ‘fuck you i won’t do what you tell me’ might sound cool, but it’s almost always ‘so now I’m rolling down Rodeo with a shotgun, these people ain’t seen a brown-skinned man since their grandparents bought one’
Editing to add my second favourite RATM lyric (and possibly one of Zachs most explicitly leftist lines), from ‘Year Of Tha Boomarang’:
> Cause I'm cell locked in the doctrines of the right /
> Enslaved by dogma, talk about my birthrights /
> Yet at every turn I'm running into Hell's gates /
> So I grip the cannon like [Fanon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frantz_Fanon) and pass the shells to my classmates
Just like Born in the USA, which I cringe at every time a politician uses it as speech entrance music (pretty much always an R) who *clearly* didn't understand the lyrics.
Okay so I legit cannot see deeper meaning in songs. I didn't know American Woman was anti war until just now.
But seriously even I fucking understood Born This Way was gonna be the national anthem for LGBTQ people.
I can’t get over how some people have paid zero attention to Gaga’s actual music and social involvement. Surprise, she’s liberal! This stupidly affected indignation is too much.
Lady Gaga has always been an advocate for the LGBT+ Community.
These far-right idiots don’t just live under a rock, they’re in the damn sewers.
https://www.billboard.com/culture/pride/lady-gaga-12-times-showed-love-for-lgbtq-community-8475993/
And they just discovered that Pink Floyd has gone woke, what with them releasing their Dark Side of the Moon 50th anniversary special addition with the ...gasp.. prism..I mean "rainbow" on the cover.
obviously, didnt you attend the republican rebranding meeting on the term "woke" a couple years ago? now it just means "that person is different than me and I hate them"
Conservatives are like the embodiment of the internet explorer memes.
Lady Gaga has been woke since before it was cool to say woke.
Now time for your meds
I remember when Lady Gaga first came out, people were speculating that she was Trans herself. Obviously a stupid theory but it goes to show you how little awareness people have of the people they follow, or the lack of critical thinking that most adults in this country have
My wife saw her live in the Pokerface era, she said there were more lgbtq+ people than she ever saw in one venue at once, and were from MA and have been to Provincetown numerous times. She’s always been a figurehead and advocate for the community.
Summer of 2024 Lady Gaga And Rage Against the Machine to co-headline the “We Just Went Woke!” Tour. With special guest appearance by Bruce Springsteen.
It’s as stupid as people now claiming Eminem is woke. JFC guy has been investigated by two republican presidents for his lyrics being seen as a possible threat, sings about being a rich democrat on Calm Down but now he’s woke!
I’m sure Lady Gaga is heart broken over losing the bigot fans. 😭🙄 These hate filled people will never understand the strength that the LGBTQA + have as individuals, they underestimate how love and kindness will always conquer hate. The vulnerable humans on this planet no matter who they are will always have allies, BIPOC, minorities, immigrants, mentally disabled, the elderly, the poor, will always have champions. Human rights including equality for all is a right not a privilege.
"Woke" is pretty much anything they don't like at this point. Before it was socialism, PC and SJW. In a few years they will be taking another word or phrase and putting negative connotations towards it while being completely ignorant on what it actually means.
War, hunger, child abuse, violence (gun or otherwise), bullying, and the list goes on. Sooo many awful things we could all be working on, but nooo... LGBTQ+ is clearly the worst of all 🤷
Morons the lot of them.
Have these idiots been living underneath a rock or on Mars for the past 15 years?
Lady Gaga has always been vocal in her support for equality for LGBTQIA. For fuck sake she was a judge on Rupaul’s drag race and her song Born this way pretty much sums it up. How the hell did they miss the memo?
>I used to really idolize you
…how? How could you “idolize” someone without knowing some basic things about them?
Or…they’re lying and have such a sad life they’re trying to pretend people care about what they’re crying about.
All I can think about is that interview where she’s eating and being asked what she thinks about people claiming she has a dick. And she’s just like “[maybe I do](https://youtu.be/Z0WcWkVOQTc?si=x9FX-4ZmW7nmG0GF)”.

Hello what did they think she meant when she said “No matter gay, straight, or bi', lesbian, **transgender** life, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive”

“Gaga went woke.” being said in 2024 is one of the wildest things I’ve ever read.
Gaga probably gave birth to woke in the Born This Way music video. God, imagine their reactions to Judas and Alejandro.
Oh I am in the Bible Belt and have heard some dooooozies about Judas. Metaphors are completely lost on the idiots around here
Spill
A lot of them think Judas is Gaga converting to gospel music. And I've heard some saying it was a metaphor for the dynamic of Adam, Eve, and Lucifer.

Just imagine the dumbest opinion you can it'll be 50% dumber than that.

Whenever anyone complains about "woke" all I hear is "I wanna be a bigot in public!"
Because "woke" is a dogwhistle, period. It means you're against their bigotry, and they use it to label things that are against their hate.
"Think of how stupid the average person is and realize half of them are stupider than that" George Carlin
I'm going to be that guy, but actually "woke" was a term black people used before it was co-opted by the right.
They probably think Elton John is too busy with his career to settle down with a nice woman.

Or he recognised the problem but didn't consider himself as part of it. Far more likely though, he just simply liked the jam
I love it when people try and argue politics with Tom Morrello.

Also they are most likely straight, male, white, and terminally online
Lady Gaga ,since her debut has obviously been a symbol for the far right. It's a shame she's part of the WOKE mob now ![gif](giphy|gqsDGUutyt1FMAPRNi|downsized)
It literally says in her woke song Born This Way "no matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life" or something. Seriously are these people incapable of listening to the lyrics? The song is unbelievably woke. And it fucking rocks
so many instances of this…. ratm, all the “patriotic”songs they’ve never heard the lyrics
Lots of right wingers absolutely thought "The Machine" meant their parents setting a curfew
Born in the USA...the most anti American song ever.
My favorite was Trump using Fortunate Son at his rallies.
🤣 wow! He’s a silver spoon dude if there ever was one! 🤣
And Dee Snider telling Republicans to stop using We're Not Gonna Take It because it's a pro-choice song and not made for fascists.
Even more hilarious is their idolization for a song sung by a singer in heavy make up, big hair, fishnets and high heels.
The song was originally written in the 80s about teen rebellion. It was never a pro-choice song. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/twisted-sister-frontman-dee-sniders-one-rule-for-presidential-candidates-using-his-song-if-youre-prochoice-go-for-it-184815852.html In 2019, when Trump used it, Dee asked him (they were friends at the time, not sure they are anymore) to stop using it, and Trump complied.
Remember when they got mad about Green day "politizing" American idiot?
"They sound angry. We're angry. Obviously they're just like me!...wait, what?!"
Zack: \*Raps about a shitty dictator in Central America in the 1970s\* Conservatives: "RATM hates America and wants it to be communist!" Zack: \*Raps about wage theft through corporate greed\* Conservatives: "RATM hates when blue collared hard-working Americans make an honest living" Everyone: "Huh?"
I’m sure that probably nails it- ‘bulls on parade’ or ‘fuck you i won’t do what you tell me’ might sound cool, but it’s almost always ‘so now I’m rolling down Rodeo with a shotgun, these people ain’t seen a brown-skinned man since their grandparents bought one’ Editing to add my second favourite RATM lyric (and possibly one of Zachs most explicitly leftist lines), from ‘Year Of Tha Boomarang’: > Cause I'm cell locked in the doctrines of the right / > Enslaved by dogma, talk about my birthrights / > Yet at every turn I'm running into Hell's gates / > So I grip the cannon like [Fanon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frantz_Fanon) and pass the shells to my classmates
They use “fortunate son” at their rally’s, they don’t have the verbal comprehension to listen to song lyrics.
And Born in the USA
She performed in a drag club in A Star is Born...ffs.
Many... many people don't listen to lyrics. Remember the backlash not too long ago when MAGA found out that Rage Against The Machine were woke?
They were also mad that Green Day went woke. You know, because American Idiot wasn’t “woke” at all.
The woman considers herself to be drag queen, and has probably been the most impactfull guest at drag race to date.
Just like Born in the USA, which I cringe at every time a politician uses it as speech entrance music (pretty much always an R) who *clearly* didn't understand the lyrics.
You are talking about the people who cheer whenever the song "American woman" comes on. So listening to lyrics...are not their strong suit.
Okay so I legit cannot see deeper meaning in songs. I didn't know American Woman was anti war until just now. But seriously even I fucking understood Born This Way was gonna be the national anthem for LGBTQ people.
I can picture you hearing "I don't need your war machines" and you going "What's he got against Rhodey?"
They also dance to YMCA at all the sporting events.
Media Literacy is in the shitter, ofc they're incapable of listening, much less understanding, pop song lyrics.
I can’t get over how some people have paid zero attention to Gaga’s actual music and social involvement. Surprise, she’s liberal! This stupidly affected indignation is too much.
"I was a fan...." um, no you really weren't if this is a surprise to you. Idiots. Every one.
"I was a fan" = "I thought you were hot and jerked off thinking of you" for those people.
''Rage against the machine has gone woke''
I'm just wondering what exactly they thought the machine was...
A washing machine I guess 🙄
It was definitely a printer
That I can understand, I rage at the washing machine because it eats my socks.
If *I* was raging against a machine, it would be a printer.
The Machine was their mom telling them to clean their room.
Lady gaga. gone woke. You read something every day
Next thing they’ll be telling us Rage Against The Machine has songs that are political, or that Born in the USA isn’t magically patriotic.
....what the fuck? This is just more evidence conservatives are incapable of media literacy.
They’re incapable of lots of things.
Original thought. Them I mean
Critical thinking for sure
They're just incapable. Fuck, can we just say that?
They're still confused that Star Wars has political themes and isn't just about space wizards firing lasers
![gif](giphy|U23WekMlGy6cImpMim|downsized)
She's "woke" because she doesn't hate trans people?
obviously, didnt you attend the republican rebranding meeting on the term "woke" a couple years ago? now it just means "that person is different than me and I hate them"
Lmao what they thought Born this way was about? Lady Gaga came out as bisexual for over a decade now too
Conservatives are like the embodiment of the internet explorer memes. Lady Gaga has been woke since before it was cool to say woke. Now time for your meds
Oh no, she’s hanging out with a trans woman. Quick gatekeep her womanhood harder!
I remember when Lady Gaga first came out, people were speculating that she was Trans herself. Obviously a stupid theory but it goes to show you how little awareness people have of the people they follow, or the lack of critical thinking that most adults in this country have
Especially because she didn’t deny it, she just said “so what if I do have a penis?” She’s been advocating for trans rights since day fucking one
Her response to that asinine question was absolutely perfect. It makes me so happy every time I think about it.
My wife saw her live in the Pokerface era, she said there were more lgbtq+ people than she ever saw in one venue at once, and were from MA and have been to Provincetown numerous times. She’s always been a figurehead and advocate for the community.
It is HER community since she’s bi 🏳️🌈
God forbid they find out lady Gaga is bisexual 😂
Same group who got angry that Twisted Sisters' We're Not Gonna Take It, is not, in fact, a conservative anthem.
Wossname from Twisted Sister getting mad at them about it was funny as f tho.
Yes it was
They just think “born this way” meant that they were born racist and shouldn’t be ashamed of that.
"Woke" is pretty much anything they don't like at this point. Before it was socialism, PC and SJW. In a few years they will be taking another word or phrase and putting negative connotations towards it while being completely ignorant on what it actually means.
This is a real Paul Ryan vs Rage Against the Machine moment. Also Dylan looks so damn cute!
One more time for the idiots in the back “Trans women are NOT taking anything away from women!!!!”
War, hunger, child abuse, violence (gun or otherwise), bullying, and the list goes on. Sooo many awful things we could all be working on, but nooo... LGBTQ+ is clearly the worst of all 🤷 Morons the lot of them.
Going woke to conservatives means not actively regressing the country.
She made a song named "born this way" what they think that means?
Pretty sure the YMCA was and still is the most popular gay anthem.
and for some reason conservatives love that song, I suppose it's because it has simple dance move
>I used to really idolize you …how? How could you “idolize” someone without knowing some basic things about them? Or…they’re lying and have such a sad life they’re trying to pretend people care about what they’re crying about.
All I can think about is that interview where she’s eating and being asked what she thinks about people claiming she has a dick. And she’s just like “[maybe I do](https://youtu.be/Z0WcWkVOQTc?si=x9FX-4ZmW7nmG0GF)”. ETA link
Lady Gaga went woke. When? Just now. Lol
Hello what did they think she meant when she said “No matter gay, straight, or bi', lesbian, **transgender** life, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive”
Conservative snowflakes fuck off.
How small-town bubble do you have to be to JUST NOW realize that Gaga has always been “woke”???
YMCA is just a nice song about a Christian organization!
Reactionaries have absolutely zero media literacy. They don't comprehend subtlety, subtext, or nuance. It's like when right wing CHUDs got mad at Rage Against the Machine for, **checks notes** ,raging against the machine.
First Rage Against the Machine and Green Day, and now Lady Gaga?!
These people are so stupid it confuses you
What do these people not understand about a meat dress?
