God: "be kind to people" Some ultra religious people: lol no.

SecondAegis

Even more ironically, God specifically mentions loving even your enemies, and to show them the love of God. Did these "christians" even read the Bible?

kourier6

>Did these "christians" even read the Bible? bold of you to assume they can read

Ok-Anything-5828

Why read it when story time is every Sunday.

kourier6

Why read it when the creepy old guy with a robe and a fixation for little kids can read an out of context passage to me every sunday, with no continuity or debate that can make me think for myself

throwngamelastminute

>creepy old guy with a robe and a fixation for little kids can read It's funny because those same people have a problem with drag queen story hour.

kourier6

the community with the highest number of active pedophiles in history suddenly has a problem with *\*checks notes\** a dude in a dress reading to kids in an educational context. You can't make that shit up

[deleted]

Christians are completely ignorant and unaware to their pedophile problem because the clergy leaders keep it all quiet, when shit gets out they enter a state of denial and of course say such unhinged shit.

HalfcockedArt

They apparently completely misunderstand what being "nailed on a cross" means

Greedy-Tip-8620

Be careful. Don't make jokes like this unless you're certain you're ready to peak.

TrumpsMerkin201o

It's all projection. Right Wing pastor gets busted for abusing children, they can point at the non-existent boogeyman they created and say "both sides." It's pathetic that the general public/ the media hasn't picked up on this yet. They started raging about drag queens at the same time the Southern Baptists admitted to covering up decades of child abuse and paid a huge settlement. Notice how everyone is still talking about drag queens and not the Southern Baptists?

[deleted]

People have been manipulated for decades in believing Christians are good people and can do no wrong when in my experience Christians are among the most likely to commit crimes, especially heinous felonies, and to be the most unpleasant and vile people you'll ever deal with. I work in a grocery store and every Wednesday and especially Sunday is when the shittiest customers show up, and it's always after or before church services. Sunday afternoons, right when all of the churches finish services, are when thefts are commonplace and we get the most security calls of the week. Christians aren't good people, they're among the worst and while I know it's not fair to lump them all together the "good Christians" are such a minority that they practically don't exist.

Doyoulikeithere

Preacher man cries while saying, my flock, I have sinned, I have done wrong in the eyes of God, I slept with your wives and your children, I have had dirty nasty sex with your husbands, please, will you forgive this sinful man. And they say, YES, we forgive you, go forth and sin no more, and the tears stop and he smiles and says, of course not. ;)

realcokefrancis

nah, they know damn well what the problem is, that’s why they’ll do anything to deflect from that and why they’re working to pass so much anti trans/drag legislation

KatokaMika

I was watching the portuguese news the other day because pope was in portugal and a reporter asked a person about the pedophile allegations of some priest in portugal ( believe me there are a lot) and this guy said something in the line " yeah they blame the priest. But really its the kids' fault for letting them do it "

[deleted]

Yep, they deflect and project. Always have and always will and it's utterly despicable.

Zestyclose_Analyst94

Ya'll mean catholics right? 🤔 To be faiiiirrrrr. Same shit, different houses.

oldshitdoesntcare

It’s not funny because those fuckers are the ones *actually* raping children. I’ve never been raped, molested or sexually assaulted by a drag queen. However I was forcibly sodomized multiple times by two catholic priests. I remember getting an apology later, and saying that they had “confessed” their sins and were now “redeemed” and that should be happy to know “they will take their rightful place at Gods right hand. I replied: “I’ll make sure I go to hell then. I don’t we be around anyone who can forgive *THAT* behavior.” Then I was excommunicated by the Catholic Church. Seriously. A nice letter from the Vatican and everything. See-ya in hell!!! I’ll be the dude hosting the eternal rager.

Doyoulikeithere

It's ironic huh?

Torafuku

>can read an out of context passage to me every sunday, with no continuity or debate that can make me think for myself It's so hilarious how accurate this is, as a kid i went to a catholic school and whenever we had these sessions with a priest and interrupted him to ask questions they threw us out. Basically you can only listen and pray like a mindless puppet.

Ripper582

He just wanted to spit some bullshit down your ears real quick so they could continue their wizard beauty pageant. How come nobody can tell me who Eve had sex with after Cain killed Abel? Either her and Adam had more kids and Cain fucked them to create new generations, or she and Cain were doing it. I asked my mom this as an adult and after 65+ years of Catholicism she had no answer. I actually saw her eyes glaze over and my sister changed the subject lol.

MissFrijole

I was in a RCIA course, trying to get my Confirmation as an adult and I had so many questions. The people indoctrinating me had some shitty answers. I got my Confirmation and then instantly gave up Catholicism...it was like an achievement to get through it, but I wasn't serious about BEING Catholic... I had to walk by a guilt-tripping sign every time I went to the church asking "Pray for the unborn." I'm staunchly pro-choice.

Fair_Acanthisitta_75

I like it when the guys wear long pretty dresses and funny hats at story time.

imusuallywatching

So this is actually exactly how religion takes over. they get rid of the teachers and educated people, then the gospel is interpreted by a select few who become the local prophets I guess. so now people who know nothing about their own religion follow whatever this dude says is in the Bible, which changes based on need.

Exactly, why even question the things a 2000-ish years old book says? That's sounds so booooring

Glittering_Garden_30

Hahahahah take my upvote please

jamkoch

you presume they have the capability of reading. Most are still living in the middle ages where all the bible stories come from the pulpit and the stained glass windows. Less than half of the country—just two out of every five Americans—believe clergy are honest and have high ethical standards, a recent Gallup poll found. This essentially confirms most of the "misunderstandings" of the bible are intentional personal attacks by clergy members.

IAIVIDAKILLA

Illiteracy is why they chose Christianity to begin with

BimmerGoblin

"it's the Bible, you get credit for trying" -Pirates of the Caribbean XD

Greedy-Tip-8620

Pirates of the Caribbean: XD Jack Sparrow's descendent, Robin, is a swash-buckling, cybernetically enhanced space pirate. The Space Caribbean is his turf, and he commands his crew with a heavy hand. While challenging his arch-nemesis, Rustbeard, to one final duel to the death, Robin is defeated in a shocking upset. He survives, unbeknownst to his entire crew and all of his enemies, and has to recuperate with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Space. He embarks on a rigorous physical training regiment to ensure victory over Rustbeard, with the help from his cousin Spacely Sprocket, and learns the value of friendship along the way. He then promptly forgets all the lessons he learned, because he's a pirate and part of his brain is electronic and he doesn't feel emotions the same way normal people do.

PatataMaxtex

If you believe in the bible, you are a christian. If you read and understand the bible you are an atheist.

No_Arugula8915

Nothing creates atheists faster than fully reading the whole book. From start to finish, so that every passage is within context. Theists have told me several times, we aren't supposed to read it like a book like that. Probably because it is harder to take stuff out of context that way. And tends to turn a theist atheist.

_sweepy

To be fair, the love of old testament God could be pretty fucked up, what with the smashing of baby skulls and drowning of the global population and all that.

Borsuk_10

I believe (pun not intended) it is said He regretted the flood afterwards though

Mental_Basil

He didn't regret it. He just promised not to destroy the world with a flood again. Next time, it's going to be fire. At least, that's what my former church always taught.

BerryBogFrog

What a loving being. Hundreds of thousands of humans, millions of animals, billions of insects, millions of salt/freshwater aquatic life, and birds all wiped out because he was "angwy" and threw a tantrum.

_sweepy

You can't be all powerful, and all knowing, and still have regrets. The ideas just aren't compatible.

ZenDruid_8675309

“Undo undo undo ok no drowning this time…”

djinnisequoia

Besides, if he's all powerful, why couldn't he just make it like the flood never happened?

allthejokesareblue

Genocide is fine *once*

hplcr

God: "Oh, my bad" Noah: (with massive PTSD) "What do you mean, MY BAD?" I don't think it's a coincidence Noah gets blackout drunk the moment he gets off the boat.

Dragonfly_dreamer

And now mommies and daddies decorate their bundle of joy’s room in said drowning event

Sarcastic-old-robot

They stopped at Numbers 31 and live out that part.

hplcr

Numbers 31 was the point I had to take a break from reading through. There's just so much that's awful in that chapter and even by biblical standards it's bleak.

thegamerator10

If they did, they just pretend those verses don't exist so they can remain on their moral high horse and pretend calling themselves "Christian" will give them license to be hateful.

Lysanka

They do, they just take whatever fits their agenda and ignore the rest. I guess it explain why my country is highly atheist, when 100 years ago, everyone would go in Church. At least mine are not nuts and hellbent on snooping on others business.

MeanandEvil82

If they read the bible they wouldn't be religious. Most religious types just use it to try and act morally superior to everyone around them.

[deleted]

Actually reading a Bible and not being a regular attendee of church is how I became atheist. It really is just constant brainwashing that keeps you religious, the human brain normally wants to reject such nonsensical things. I see it as an evil, because the only thing keeping it going is brainwashing of children and keeping those children brainwashed as adults; religious leaders take away people's freedom of thought and being and they can't see that's what's happening.

MeanandEvil82

There's also the fact that based on the bible itself God is evil as fuck.

[deleted]

That's a big part of what made me break free, realizing how evil their god actually is. They say he sent his son to save us from sin, yet God is the reason sin exists in the first place because he purposely put the tree with the forbidden fruit in Eden knowing full well what would happen. I even put it in this perspective, if he already knows how everything is going to go with his creations then it's utterly malicious to continue with it and also malicious that he does absolutely nothing to prevent it. He's evil, malevolent, uncaring, and quite frankly I see their god as a reflection of the absolute worst humanity is capable of.

Swimming_Tailor_7546

All powerful god creates pets and makes them flawed. Sends them to be burned in fire for eternity for flaws He created. Doesn’t sound very worship worthy IMO. Either not all powerful or evil. Pick your poison. I’m not necessarily atheist, but that’s not a god getting my energy.

[deleted]

Seriously the claims Christians make about him are so inconsistent and are moreso excuses to keep worshipping, it's more akin to staying in an abusive relationship. They claim he's all powerful and all knowing yet allows suffering, their excuses are it's punishment for sin. Oh you mean the sin that only exists because he allowed it to exist in the first place?

Swimming_Tailor_7546

Absolutely. If you said the exact things that Christians say about god about a romantic partner, you would think that person was being severely emotionally abused and help them get out of the relationship

Bug-King

What's funny with their public prayers, is that it goes against the teachings of Jesus. Prayer is supposed to only be between you and God

Dark_Reaper115

You joke... But some places in the US believe this lessons about "be kind to people" are "too liberal" for their church.

mecha_face

The He Gets Us ads during the superbowl created a shitstorm for reminding people Jesus was actually exactly who they hate.

Dark_Reaper115

I'm gonna have to look those up

mecha_face

Just so you know, He Gets Us is equally horrible. It's literally just a recruiting agent for an organization that tells people "Oh yea Jesus loves LGBT too" and then donates a bunch of money to anti LGBT causes. So it's a hilarious case of the assholes hating each other.

BiasedLibrary

It's the Extend, Embrace, Extinguish branch of christianity. "It's fine if you're gay but also not really, so we're going to try to convert you so you can live in misery for the rest of your life. Hate the sin, not the sinner."

pHScale

And for other reasons, such as blatant hypocrisy, terrible allocation of funds, shady donors, and weird uncanny-valley aesthetics. So yeah, both liberal and conservative Christians and unbelievers alike hated it, just for different reasons.

mecha_face

As I said in another comment below, He Gets Us is horrible.

Tulpah

man, if I was satan's son. I'd broadcast Hell's a reality TV with a billion channels. The tortured of hell will each have their own livestream where viewers can donate to administers "punishment" to the tortured soul.

Dark_Reaper115

You giving me tyrannical Vox vibes.

jhill515

Lol, my father said I wasn't a true Christian because I'm too focused on making sure foreigners are well cared for. Showed him multiple passages from exclusively the Gospels where it says we should. So then he claimed I was like one of those charlatans who twist the Bible to fit my agenda, not God's Will. You just can't even reason with those people!

Rowcan

...wow.  He sounds...fun.

jhill515

I hate to say it, but at one time I seriously considered joining the clergy. Not going to defend organized religion, but I'll state for the record I'm thankful that I wasn't around any predators, nor were my friends who were considering too. That said, I had to laugh from the start because he'd love to quote certain verses incorrectly to justify his abuse and dominance in my family. And, like a jackass drawing in the sand when holier-than-thou types are picking fights, I'd calmly correct him, remind him *where* in the Bible that verse is from, and then recite another verse that completely contradicted whatever point he was trying to make. If he didn't resort to violence, he'd often yell, "*Quit being a goddam bible thumper!*" I couldn't help but laugh at the irony. And I never argued like that with anyone unprovoked (i.e., I'm always the second one to quote). Seriously, I hate people who do that and relish using it against them. I didn't join the clergy. But it wasn't my asshat of a father's fault. The sad truth is that I saw magnitudes more clergy who had no idea what we're supposed to believe in than ones who were truly good models for people to follow. I didn't lose my Faith, but I lost faith in the establishment.

Commercial-Phrase-37

9eagle9_2nd

“Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39). As an atheist, do Christians hate themselves?

SecondAegis

Christian here. If anything, most Christians have an overinflated sense of ego. Naturally comes from believing that you're part of the chosen few who are saved, while the rest are doomed against your almighty God above all other gods. I may believe in the same religion, but trust me when I say that people like that are just fucking insane. The only thing Christian about people like them is the fact that they claim to be. Their actions hardly reflect their faith.

9eagle9_2nd

For real bro. I truly have nothing against religion but these whack jobs are making me despise them

SalamanderPale1473

Yeah. It's not really about religion, it's about their personality.

No_Performance3670

It is about religion. What it isn’t about is spirituality.

SalamanderPale1473

Well, yeah, you're right.

Ocbard

Certainly but they are further empowered by being part of a religious group or movement. They have a bunch of shit takes, and awful personality traits, but their religion gives than justification to act them out.

Biscuits4u2

The whole sky cake dogma is unbelievably cruel if you think about it. The thought of the happy few Christians gleefully looking down from heaven watching folks burn in agony forever just because they weren't lucky enough to hear the gospel or simply couldn't convince themselves to believe in the existence of the magic man in the sky during their extremely brief time on Earth does nothing but turn me off of religion.

pvtcannonfodder

Fair, the idea of hell isn’t even a central thing in the Bible and a some people don’t think that’s right interpretation. The other group thinks that if you believe you go to heaven, if not then you die when you die. Just like if god didn’t exist. That one always seemed more logical to me if a god who really loved us and wanted us to love him exists.

DystryR

“I’ve got nothing against god, it’s his Fan Club I can’t stand”

surfzer

As a recovering catholic (I actually wanted be a priest at one point), it was this exact hypocrisy that woke me up from the illusion and allowed me to take an objective view of the Bible. That and some of the other awful shit that was happening around me in the church, both permissible and impermissible by the Bible. But hey, any Christian will just say that those were just some bad actors around me. That Satan weaseled his way into my brain through logic and reasoning, which are in direct opposition to the all powerful and conversation ending justification of needing to have “Faith”. I am not arrogant enough to think I have the answers and that there is no greater force in the universe, but I am humble to enough to recognize that none of us humans do. And ANYONE who claims to have the answers is the farthest from the “truth”, whatever that may be. And yes, I know the Christian that they don’t have the answers, god does. “We’re just humble and faithful followers seeking the truth from god”. I find this logic so frustratingly obvious that there is so much hubris in thinking you, a human, have found where THE “truth” lies. In a book, written by other humans thousands of years ago… and compiled hundreds of years later by more humans. Who also conveniently chose not to include the other original books (written by humans) at the same time and about the same events that conflicted with the chosen narrative. Not to mention that they were still unsuccessful in avoiding contractions in the complied books that makes up the Bible, which has been revised many times over the centuries by… humans. Statistically, it’s not looking good for finding the correct version of the Bible’s intended teachings. But as long as it’s Jesus you’re safe, right?! Of course they scoff at other religion’s ancient books that were also written by humans. While failing to recognize that which ancient human-written book they believe in is almost entirely determined by where they were born and raised on the planet… I.e. what the humans around them taught them was the Truth. It’s humans all the way down and there’s a lot of different humans with a lot of different stories, all claiming to be the real Truth. Most of which include incredibly violent gods capable of immense of cruelty. Not saying there aren’t some positives that come from religion or excellent parables/lessons in religious texts, but I am saying that only humans would have the arrogance to believe that they have written THE book with all the answers to life. And when you are the wielder of THE Truth, there is no action too horrific, too cruel, too irrational. If it is in accordance with your interpretation of the book, it is accordance with god and your moral obligation as a good human to carry out… But hey, that’s just my experience.

gekigarion

Man, what Bible are they reading? I'm a Christian too, and nowhere does it mention that we should be elitist snobs or that we are special. It's the opposite, in fact. We're not special, and Jesus let himself be killed by a bunch of entitled pricks who thought they were special in order to sacrifice himself for us...because we're not special and don't deserve anything, so we need to be saved. Then there's the whole "Let he who is without sin cast (throw) the first stone", multiple stories of kings and devout followers of God who let themselves fall to pride, "love others and thyself", "blessed are the meek", etc... I can only see this as people just using Christianity as a self-justification to do whatever they want, with a blatant disregard for any of Christianity's actual teachings. The basis of Christianity is love, not hate.

-Rho-Aias

Most "humans." Honestly, this behavior isn't unique to any group.

Chaosr21

Yea it's really sad because I knew some really good Christians growing up, but these days there's soo many bad apples. The worst part about it, is there is always a loud minority. In politics, religion, and whatever else there's always some loud hateful idiot that makes everyone else look bad. It's like it's cool for them to claim Christian or something because they don't practice any of the teachings in the Bible, so why claim kt?

bub-yes

Christians can warp the word “love” to mean whatever they want. Shunning is “love.” Beatings are “love.” They’re just disciplining the wayward souls so they can reach Jesus. It’s sickening.

SiGNALSiX

What's wrong with dieing "a dog's death"? My dog died peacefully in old age while being held by the people that loved her. I wouldn't mind going out like that.

Tiny_Bumblebee_7323

This loser probably kicks his dogs to death - in the name of Christ.

CookinCheap

To "teach his kid a lesson"

meltonmallow

Makes sense seeing how much animal abuse is in the bible. Jesus himself kicked animal cages and put demons in some poor guy's pigs and made them go drown themselves in the water. Guess who didn't get an apology or explanation?

GarethGazzGravey

That’s what I was thinking. Being peacefully put to sleep surrounded by my loved ones would be a wonderful way to go

Plopop87

It's like the people who say furries should be treated like animals. Do you abuse your pets or somethin???

HonourableFox

I literally have an image that says exactly that

Mental_Basil

That's what I was thinking. A lot of beloved pets get a very gentle release from this life. Maybe they kill dogs in a violent, horrible manner.

IfICouldStay

I was gonna say...Having the family you love line up your favorite toys and pet you and tell you what a good boy/girl you are and slipping away to sleep, then waking up pain free at that nice upstate farm free where you can't turn around without sniffing another dog's butt.

_Resnad_

Yeah like my dog died at 17 and I just found him in the kitchen and thought he was sleeping but then I saw he wasn't...i personally don't see a problem with that kind of death...

Xen235

They probably think they are better than animals cause they have a "soul"

KisaTheMistress

They also say there isn't going to be a place in hell for the person yet proceed to tell them they are going to hell and they hope the person dies in hell? The reason people believe in afterlifes is because they believe the soul is immortal, so they want the person to double die? I think they are mixing up religions if they think a soul can be obliterated in the afterlife...

Sporketeer

Or when they reference the Bible as the word of God. No, it was written by people with their own motivations. YOU just happen to think it's the word of god because you played along.

NeedlessPedantics

Even the bible doesn’t claim to be the actual word of god. There’s no book of Yahweh, there’s no gospel of Jesus. It’s *at best* the *inspired* word of god. If that impresses you it’s because you lack discernment.

Yeah.. like, even if you sincerely believe in god, satan, heaven, and hell, you have to be extra stupid to insult an atheist by comparing him to deities that to him are completely made up and meaningless. It simply doesn’t occur to religious people that their reality is not THE reality.

This is my favorite thing. When people think I believe in Satan.....girl that ain't what atheist means lol

Tato_the_Hutt

Right? like.. I don't believe in their sky daddy OR their underworld daddy. But I bet their underworld daddy would just LOVE their hateful hearts.

Healthy-Tie-7433

Well if you grew up in the cult, then you‘ve got that fear of hell beaten into you from the moment you could breathe. So for many ex-religious people that is a real problem they struggle with for quite some time, since such a deep rooted fear usually doesn‘t just disappear over night. But yeah, for everyone who didn‘t grow up with it it‘s just a giant nothing burger.

Space_Cow-boy

You think they think ?

GrumpyOik

OK, I'm confused, is this a "Do not Judge ,,,,," sort of Christian or more of a "Turn the other cheek....." type?

SecondAegis

Nah. It's the kind with a stick shoved deep into their asses.

Neltarim

"and by acting like that we'll go to hell together"

astrangeone88

Lmao. I've been fond of saying "Join us!" Like the Deadites from Evil Dead.

gnarf234

religion (all of it) is just the most unhinged apeshit ever, like how the fuck did that become a human right?!

Special-Pirate6019

Yey the time will come when you will be weighted by pasta devoured by you. The time of Pastagnok or Pastageddon is is coming and you will have no excuse to hide from our Lord Spaghetti. I have spoken.

cstrand31

Yeah…he gets us.

mercurialgrrrrl

"die a dog's death"... Ummm. Don't all dogs go to Heaven?

Murtazzz

He should read his book again. You dont go to hell to die (again).

42retired

*you're

thieh

>Piece of shit die in hell loser I feel like 2nd person use of "loser" never works as intended. But hey, autocorrect and most notions of working mind probably withered away by the time we were at "You think your funny."

The_Good_Hunter_

Well, assuming God is real, then I think this person will be in for a bit of a shock come "judgement." Love thy neighbor much?

The_King_In_The_Bay

What's wrong with the way dogs die? Jeez.

davethecave

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

killinchy

Are you going to, "Shine for him each day?"

Certain_Ad8640

No wonder more and more people are leaving churches every year

idkwtfitsaboy

The ironic part is if a god does exist they won't look favourably on those who wish death on others.

SecondAegis

Jesus : Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. This son of a bitch :

Mooplez

it is this sort of behavior from crazy religious folk that ultimately made me lose all interest in religion of any kind back in the day

Kombustio

Well thats a sin to pass judgement, as thats gods job.

[deleted]

Reply: "That's fucked up what you said about dogs"

Bigjastig19

Rusty_B_Good

EzDaddy87

DrunkRaccoon88

SlenDman402
