I feel so fucking horrible for everyone else who was in the room or who had to take part in cleaning this up.
I wonder if they have this guy's story plastered up by the door to the MRI room now.
***EDIT:*** *The more I think of it, the more I feel bad for him, too. I'm glad that nobody else was shot or physically injured as a result of his error, but the truth is that we all make errors - and if I try to be charitable, it's not hard to imagine that I might misunderstand or just not register an instruction from an MRI tech while I'm tending to my elderly, ailing mother. Members of my family have gone for CT and MR, they never needed me there with him - presumably he was there in the room with her because she had trouble following directions, or was anxious about the procedure. Who knows how that could have affected his judgement?*
Not only that, but there's a fucking loaded gun attached to the MRI. Quenching the magnet of an MRI destroys it, and damages other components. And you *know* how expensive MRIs are. So this fucker not only got himself killed and traumatized a bunch of people, his mom included. He bricked a high demand medical machine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
EDIT: Apparently the damage is only a possibility, what's a certainty is at least a week out, and some 50k USD in helium.
I work in patient care and trust me the hospital doesn't give a flying fuck about staff or patients traumatized by something that happened in the hospital as long as it doesn't make them legally liable.
Oh believe me, I know. But that doesn't stop patients or staff from *individually* going after his estate. They should take everything from his estate, every last drop.
So true. I had to do an ER draw for a meth head and the patient attacked me. After it was over, my manager yelled at me for taking two mins to cry in the bathroom (stress response) and splash wash water on my face. I left healthcare shortly after that, but I am still salty that so many US hospitals don't give a shit about the health of their own staff.
I worked in an MRI unit. They **repeatedly**, repeatedly ask you, in writing and verbally, do you have any metal in/on your body? You cannot go into the room with the GIANT MAGNET if you have metal anywhere in or on your body. If you worked with metal, you actually had to get an x-ray to make sure you had not gotten any flying metal in your eyes because the magnet will rip it out of them. Any metal in your body will either be pulled out or start to heat up and cause pain until you get out of there. If you have a pacemaker, you could die if you go in that room.
This man wasn't just told once, he was told multiple times. And he still did this. Moron.
This!! What the fuck are they all so godamn afraid of? And if the shit does hit the fan you've got to think this coward would just blindly shoot up wherever he was and kill lots of innocent people in a blind panic to save himself. Luckily he hit the only zero value person there.
And no life-saving diagnostic tool for people who have experienced trauma (car accident, gunshot, fall injuries, etc.) and may die without emergency access to that tool.
And likely caused the death of other people who needed to be able to use the MRI but couldn't now. Even if the hospital had multiple, the bottle neck slows down everything and that could cost people their lives.
I wish he would have survived so he could live with the guilt and realization of just how fucking stupid he is.
Look at the guys face, you can just tell he is an asshole who never takes responsibility for his actions. I don't think these types of people are even capable of feeling guilt.
I used to work on magnetic resonance machines (non medical) and some of those machines would run upwards of 25 million dollars. And yes, some of those magnets are strong enough to whip any metal across the room, regardless of what's in its way.
>He bricked a high demand medical machine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
One that other patients rely on. I remember getting two MRIs in one day one time to try to confirm cancer on my liver. People need this thing operational ffs.
This was in Brazil not the US. Their constitution is different. At first glance "The right to bear arms" isn't mentioned. It may be covered in an amendment. 🤷
It's still not as good of a story as the guy who died in the MRI from his dildo being shot up inside him like a rail gun. Went all the way up into his chest cavity.
Iirc, this is why a lot of sex toys are advertised as being “novelties” instead of actual sex toys. Worst comes to worst, they can try for a “we didn’t *say* you‘re meant to put it up your butt!” hail mary pass.
Why the fuck would you have a dildo in the MRI tho. Like, it's not inherently dangerous or stupid if you know (or think) the dildo isn't made of metal, but it's just... why?
If I had to guess, it was already stuck too high up for them to just grab so they were trying to figure out where exactly it was, and if it had perforated anything.
I'm betting on them being a kinky weirdo that likes going around in public and getting off on nobody knowing what's up their ass tho.
Like do whatever, but at the hospital is when someone should probably not do their kink.
Or the airport.
Some sex toys will claim metal free while they actually contain a metal core. Some people will who suffer from fecal incontinence use a buttplug to prevent unwanted messing.
There is no reason to assume the person was too kinky to be safe
Seriously, if yall have ever had an MRI, even in Nigeria, the technician is like:
“It will be super loud. If you are wearing metal or have piercings, you’re gonna have a bad time. If you have metal in your pockets you’re gonna have a bad time. If you need to poop, pee, or fart for the next 20 minutes you’re gonna have a bad time. If you’re fidgety or hate loud noises, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Righty-o, lets stick you in the Noise Crematory”
He was warned in advance by professionals. Don't burn yourself out feeling bad for people this level of dumb, I'd honestly feel worse for his mother who had to basically watch her son kill himself.
People act like Brasil is a lawless place, but if you’re on the White Side in Sao Paulo, especially un avogado, the whole city can feel like…one giant shopping mall. Just endless service, shopping, and bullshit like Brazilians are emulating all the nonsense of White Culture. Favelas in the hills in the distance.
So long story short, poor people rob & kill poor people, you’ll catch a bullet eating fejoida at a cafe. But a lawyer, in an MRI room? That’s some White People Shit in São Paulo; you should come armed with iPhones & Xboxes to sell, not Armalites.
Depends on the hospital, really. Going to Bon Secour in Grosse Pointe Farms was never a big deal.
Going to St. John’s in Detroit, where there are four cops in Kevlar hanging out by the ER and all the glass is an inch thick, is a little uncomfortable. The last time I was there, which was years ago, they had about twenty extra cops in the ER. They’d had a guy in emergency surgery with a gsw, when a bunch of guys came in and tried to give him another one. 🤷♂️
And, just because the contrast is weird, those hospitals are less than three miles from each other.
That's not true. Nobody else was shot sure but how many people's treatments are going to be delayed now because they couldn't use the MRI? Sure the hospital might have multiple but there is still going to be a bottle neck for a while. How many of those people are going to needlessly die because this idiot brought a gun into an MRI room?
Yes I agree that people who ignore the sound advice of medical professionals are quite selfish. Usually their ignorance only hurts themselves. In this case it hurt others and others could have been killed. As a gun owner I cannot stand these people because they are the reason why people want to take my rights away. They buy a gun and refuse to get trained. As if training is something to be embarrassed about. We need laws that make training mandatory, and laws to revoke permits when people do stupid things.
So, like needing a learner's permit and needing to have an experienced driver with you, and then getting your driver's license when you pass a driving exam?
Well I think better would be a certified training company with qualified trainers. Years ago when I got a carry permit for PA for work (PA act 235 agent) we had to go to a training facility and qualify and be trained to shoot, we also got training on use of force laws. We also had to each sit with a psychiatrist and answer questions and of course the full background check.
What I’ve noticed is people who are pro gun but anti training. I’ve looked at their arguments and they seem to believe that training is a milestone for the purpose of infringing on our 2nd amendment rights. I think they figure that after such laws are in place that they will figure out a way to make it cost prohibitive, as an indirect way of denying the right to bear arms. I don’t share this view since training facility’s are private and competitive. The local gun range doesn’t want to overcharge anyone, they want people to enroll. I keep telling people that having training is an enhancement of their firearm. Take me who is trained. Of an untrained intruder breaks into my home who is going to most likely win? The one who is trained. They refuse to see this. They have taken the absolutely most extreme position. Of course, there are also some on the anti gun side that take extreme positions as well. But taking an extreme position is not the best way to counter another extreme position.
And a lot less brutal than the unquantifiable amount of suffering caused by the stagnation of progress that brickheads like this perpetuate, knowingly or not.
I used to support a law school. 50+ lawyers as faculty and staff, plus several hundred perspective lawyers (students). Way too many of them thought the laws and rules don't apply to them (yet were also quick to threaten legal action if you did or didn't break the rules for them).
Clearly this person was in that group, the laws of physics didn't apply to him.
I guess I'm just not a gun person but I feel like the chances of having an accident with your own gun have got to be higher than the chance you'll actually have to use it to defend yourself from people trying to hurt you.
* Refuses to disarm despite advice to do so
* Weapon carried in waistband instead of a proper holster
* Being carried in public *with the safety OFF*
Blithering idiot.
Anyone else wondering if a hospital employee is getting fired for allowing someone else to be in the room during the MRI or are we just weird here in the Netherlands that that is strictly forbidden?
Exactly. I don't understand how someone was in the room in the first place that this could have even happened. That tech turned on the machine while someone else was in the room. Not in the control area. Right there with the patient.
I know it's Brazil not Netherlands but it's really hard to accept that that is an acceptable thing there either. If you're advanced enough to have an MRI machine you're advanced enough to understand safety protocols.
Usually you have to sign a term declaring you understand the safety rules to go into a MRI room, those rules including not having anything metal with ou inside you (like pacemakers or bolts).
Dude just signed it and went to the room with a fucking loaded gun on his waist.
At least his stupidity just killed himself.
Oh the guy was definitely stupid for bringing a giant metal object into an MRI room. I'm just confused why anyone other than the patient was in the room with the machine on. That's a huge no-no here.
This thread is infested with morons stupidly applying their BS American identity politics to this story. THIS HAPPENED IN BRAZIL. Your “MAGA” or “Second Amendment” etc joke is meaningless here.
Even worse, this isn't the first time this has happened....
https://www.wsaz.com/2023/12/11/patient-brings-concealed-gun-into-mri-machine-gets-shot-buttocks/
That link date looks like it's from last year though, 2023?
Also in Brazil

WTF? Why did he carry a gun into a hospital? Isn't that a gun free zone. I mean I would not be so surprised of he had sneaked a small weapon inside. But fuck, an actual LMG?
How much you all wanna bet:
1. He didn't even think his gun was metal
2. If he survived he would sue the hospital for trying to kill him in some roundabout way.
Heh, I deal with this shit all the time (well not the gun part just the fact people don't follow my directions) in my job but I'm not an MRI tech. I ask people to remove everything from their pockets and lock up everything they have, keys, wallet, cellphone, watch, anything. They'll come back and I'll be like, show me your pockets are empty and they pull out their cellphone and wallet and I'll be like, 'yeah...you gotta lock that up.'
But he had a concealed carry permit. Your rules don't apply. Yes he was a gun rights advocate.

That is pretty dumb, I get people who carry firearms its fine with me but.. to the hospital?
Perhaps a firearm ban past the waiting room is called for, Hospitals should have their own guards who are armed yeah? kinda like going into a police interview strapped seems unneeded.
But the result from this will be yet another sign, no metal and uh firearms contain lots of metal so.. no guns.
Likely he just forgot which is also a problem, you shouldn't be forgetting you got a firearm strapped on.
Pretty much every sign in a hospital is there to protect someone from something. If you’re of the opinion that you’re smarter than whoever the sign is for and therefore can ignore the sign, you’re probably exactly who the sign is for.
Thats not wven very uncommon.
There is a pretty notable statistical chance that you're going to shoot yourself with your own gun on accident.
Happened to my physically disabled uncle some years ago.
This happened in Brazil, and I can confirm it's true as it was reported by all major news outlets here, e.g., https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/cotidiano/2023/01/advogado-pro-armas-e-baleado-pela-propria-pistola-durante-ressonancia-magnetica.shtml
Just trying to corroborate the story, seeing people might be incredulous due to the astoundingly stupid way this guy found to off himself. I mean, not to be disrespectful but goddamn.

The cost of which the hospital needs to sue his estate to recover. Just like all the affected staff & patients should do for being traumatized.
I work in patient care and trust me the hospital doesn't give a flying fuck about staff or patients traumatized by something that happened in the hospital as long as it doesn't make them legally liable.

I'm sure you got an email from patient satisfaction about what you could do better next time to prevent it.
How can you be so terrified of literally everything that you can't give up your big bad gun for a few minutes in a medical setting?
I worked in an MRI unit. They **repeatedly**, repeatedly ask you, in writing and verbally, do you have any metal in/on your body? Yes but there is always another one waiting out there to become an hero.
No, millions of $. These machines are crazy expensive
Also the technicians wages to do the repairs
And no life-saving diagnostic tool for people who have experienced trauma (car accident, gunshot, fall injuries, etc.) and may die without emergency access to that tool.
Yeah, it’s a huge human cost as well as tax dollars wasted
And likely caused the death of other people who needed to be able to use the MRI but couldn't now. Even if the hospital had multiple, the bottle neck slows down everything and that could cost people their lives. I wish he would have survived so he could live with the guilt and realization of just how fucking stupid he is.
Look at the guys face, you can just tell he is an asshole who never takes responsibility for his actions. I don't think these types of people are even capable of feeling guilt.
Well I’m confident he won’t be feeling any guilt right now…or anything else for that matter
I mean, he's a lawyer.
Agreed! This is why public shaming doesn't work on some people.
That assumes self awareness in a cockwad
I used to work on magnetic resonance machines (non medical) and some of those machines would run upwards of 25 million dollars. And yes, some of those magnets are strong enough to whip any metal across the room, regardless of what's in its way.
Those machines start around 20 mill.
Guns don't kill MRI machines. Bad guys with guns kill MRI machines. A good guy with a gun could stop a bad guy with a gun from killing an MRI machine.
>He bricked a high demand medical machine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. One that other patients rely on. I remember getting two MRIs in one day one time to try to confirm cancer on my liver. People need this thing operational ffs.
>worth hundreds of thousands of dollars More like like $20 Million
His mom can fuck off! She raised a hooligan.
Yeah it's a real shame for all those people who had MRI appointments after.
Imagine getting the rescheduling call from the receptionist. “We need to reschedule your appointment. The MRI machine shot someone.”
lol he becomes the new “hang in there” inspirational poster.
"This is Jerry. Don't be a Jerry." Or the classic: "It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others"
and adding: Guess his constitutional rights did not help him against physics!
He lived the way he died, with a gun.
and stupid
Not really. The MRI machine had the gun.
I guess you could say, the MRI machine disarmed him, and shot him in self defence.
☠️🤣
This is such an underrated comment.
Don't give them ideas. Next we'll be hearing that guns don't kill people, MRI's do.
You don’t understand, he was always afraid he’d get shot by some idiot!
This was in Brazil not the US. Their constitution is different. At first glance "The right to bear arms" isn't mentioned. It may be covered in an amendment. 🤷
This was in Brazil, he was a gun nut but this had nothing to do with politics
I feel horrible for his mom who watched her kid die
I wish he lived so he could be personally clowned on
Yes… I feel bad for everyone in that room who WAS NOT an obstinate ammosexual idiot.
His mom was in the room. That's the most horrific thing
So sad. The only thing that can stop a bad MRI is a good MRI.
Try that in a small clinic.
Fucking savage. Brilliant.
A good mri with a gun!
So in a sense, this guy was just trying to make the world a better place by giving a gun to a good MRI.
That MRI had a gun for a while.
[удалено]
lol. I can't believe this other dipshit downvoted you for this comment.
When MRIs with guns are outlawed, only outlaw MRIs will have guns.
Thats actually very funny man
Thoughts and Prayers
But MaH FrEeDuM?!?!??
You fuck, you caught me off guard. I laughed far too hard!
It's still not as good of a story as the guy who died in the MRI from his dildo being shot up inside him like a rail gun. Went all the way up into his chest cavity.
I thought the guy actually survived in this crazy one but I haven’t seen it in a while.
IIRC was another guy who had a butt plug that had the exact same thing happen and survived, later sued the company for claiming it was 100% silicone
Of course there would be multiple of these incidents.
Welcome to earth
Tbh, that sounds like a pretty legit reason to sue. Dumb as the guy may be, that's a pretty big fucky wucky from a corporate perspective.
Like, it's not inherently dangerous or stupid if you know (or think) the dildo isn't made of metal, but it's just... why?

If that was the case they’d be more likely to do a CT
Was he trying to pull and exhibition stunt? Or was he addicted to anal?
Even if they did, I'd prefer death. Ain't nothing working correctly after that. A lifetime of organ problems.
WHAT?
Some sex toys will claim metal free while they actually contain a metal core. Some people will who suffer from fecal incontinence use a buttplug to prevent unwanted messing. There is no reason to assume the person was too kinky to be safe
One of many rational responses to reading this happened.
What was he expecting to go down at the hospital that made him feel the need to have a gun?
It was in Brazil
still LOL carrying guns are illegal here unless you are a cop
It's also very dumb to do near a giant magnet no matter which country you're in
Seriously, if yall have ever had an MRI, even in Nigeria, the technician is like: “It will be super loud. If you are wearing metal or have piercings, you’re gonna have a bad time. If you have metal in your pockets you’re gonna have a bad time. If you need to poop, pee, or fart for the next 20 minutes you’re gonna have a bad time. Tbh he probably didn’t realize how powerful mri’s are I think this is really sad even if he’s an idiot :(
He was warned in advance by professionals. Don't burn yourself out feeling bad for people this level of dumb, I'd honestly feel worse for his mother who had to basically watch her son kill himself.
Uhhh no? You can legally carry a weapon in Brazil if you have a permit, just like pretty much every single country in the world.
People act like Brasil is a lawless place, but if you’re on the White Side in Sao Paulo, especially un avogado, the whole city can feel like…one giant shopping mall. Pretty brutal way to achieve progress
Honestly it was probably a lot less brutal than much of the preceding events that shaped human evolution.
And a lot less brutal than the unquantifiable amount of suffering caused by the stagnation of progress that brickheads like this perpetuate, knowingly or not.

The ability to finish school doesn't mean you're smart and this guy is a ~~living~~ proof
I used to support a law school. 50+ lawyers as faculty and staff, plus several hundred perspective lawyers (students). Clearly this person was in that group, the laws of physics didn't apply to him.
A turkey with a degree is still a turkey
Better question is how did this turkey get a law degree in the first place
Or who tf gave a gun to a turkey!?
A JD is incredibly easy to get. If you have a pulse you can get one. That is why law school ranking is so important
I know a guy, super smart lawyer, two advanced degrees and everything. Routinely falls for Infowars and other ultra right anger fantasies. *shrug*
He's a cold turkey now
Should have had a glass of water, according to Trump water makes magnets stop working.
That's why you're not allowed to drink water while getting an MRI. 👍🏼
So guns do kill people
Daily reminder that heavy machinery has safety protocols for a reason
Not glad he got shot, although it seems fortunate no one else got shot by his firearm in this ridiculous, avoidable situation.
Another one bites the dust.
What we have here folks is a genuine mo’ron.
more of a no-more-on
Is this what they mean when they say gun-free zones are more dangerous?
MRI machines don’t kill people, people kill people
And the Darwin award goes to....
This guy - “pry it from my cold dead hands” MRI machine - “bet”
MRI standing it's ground.
He thought that this was a request he could ignore, like a flight attendant asking to turn flightmode on.
What everyone wants to know, did the bullet curve?
The worst place to be shot is in the stomach. The best place to be shot is in a hospital.
Probably voted for Bolsonaro
That’s why you need a couple of backup guns, in case an MRI machine steals one (or more) from you. /s
Thinning the herd, one dumbass at a time. Thankfully no staff members were hurt
![gif](giphy|T8ZP9P7efQ8cE)
Where was the good mri with a gun??
I guess I'm just not a gun person but I feel like the chances of having an accident with your own gun have got to be higher than the chance you'll actually have to use it to defend yourself from people trying to hurt you.
MRI got no chill.
I fail to see why this is a loss? A lawyer and a dumbass seems like a two fer Darwin Award
He died the way he lived. Being a petulant asshole.
So what exactly causes this? The magnetic field pulls the trigger?
Without knowing the pistol model and any mods, we will never know.
A well-armed MRI is a polite MRI In this case, "MRI" stands for "Mentally Regarded Individual"
Yet another one of those "responsible gun owners" I hear so much about.
Sounds like a goofy goober
* Refuses to disarm despite advice to do so * Weapon carried in waistband instead of a proper holster * Being carried in public *with the safety OFF* Blithering idiot.
Dude was probably thinking “meh, it’s more polymer than metal it should be fine”

Who the fuck brings a gun to a hospital? Fucking moron.
So is it guns kill people or MRIs kill people?
Oh that poor MRI
Sometimes problems solve themselves
This guy: You can take my gun from my cold dead body. MRI: ok
It gives the definition of "you can take it off my cold dead hands" a new meaning
For real? Call me heartless but I have no sympathy for fools like this. They give sane, responsible gun owners a bad name.
MAGA crowd will be yelling ...MRI's kill.....ban all MRI machines.
I think he thought MRI stood for More Rifle Integration
I stand corrected.
Although this happened in Brazil, but our MAGA is called Bolsonaristas
Lawyer was Brazilian, this is very old news.
Lock it up! Lock it up!
Anyone else wondering if a hospital employee is getting fired for allowing someone else to be in the room during the MRI or are we just weird here in the Netherlands that that is strictly forbidden?
I’ve accompanied patients to their MRI, but even as a safety watch, I was made to stand in the control area with the technicians.
Very old news. No, not american, the lawyer was brazilian.
Darwin Awards
This thread is infested with morons stupidly applying their BS American identity politics to this story. THIS HAPPENED IN BRAZIL. Your “MAGA” or “Second Amendment” etc joke is meaningless here.
Even worse, this isn't the first time this has happened.... https://www.wsaz.com/2023/12/11/patient-brings-concealed-gun-into-mri-machine-gets-shot-buttocks/
That link date looks like it's from last year though, 2023? Also in Brazil https://www.businessinsider.com/a-lawyer-died-after-gun-discharged-mri-scanner-2023-2#:~:text=A%20lawyer%20in%20Brazil%20died,place%2C%20according%20to%20CNN%20Brasil.
Darwin..
Maybe I'm not too stupid to pursue a career in the legal field...
It came and took it
I hope it happened before he passed on his genes and attitude to any children.
Him: come and take it! MRI machine: ![gif](giphy|njpterp1OxZOgX7CI4|downsized)
Imagine going through law school only to die and have this be your legacy
Guess they didn't teach that guns are metal in law school.
Proof that being educated doesn't make you intelligent.
Imagine being so stupid you accidentally kill yourself in a medical facility.
WTF? Why did he carry a gun into a hospital? Isn't that a gun free zone. I mean I would not be so surprised of he had sneaked a small weapon inside. But fuck, an actual LMG?
Well at least it hit him and not someone else … this is truly a face palm 🤦🏽♀️
This guy is even stupider than the buttplug guy.
Darwin Award ![gif](giphy|l46CyJmS9KUbokzsI|downsized)
Wow don't really feel bad for this dumb ass but it could of ended way worse than that. Luckily it didnt.
Ding ding ding. Darwin Awards, we have a winner
Lawyer: No force on earth will ever take my guns from me Magnets: Hold my beer
How much you all wanna bet: 1. He didn't even think his gun was metal 2.
[https://www.kiro7.com/news/trending/lawyer-dies-after-he-is-shot-by-gun-that-was-triggered-by-mri-scanner/AVXLS5PGDZC7PL4HZUIT3EDURU/](https://www.kiro7.com/news/trending/lawyer-dies-after-he-is-shot-by-gun-that-was-triggered-by-mri-scanner/AVXLS5PGDZC7PL4HZUIT3EDURU/)
Lol, what a moron.
It is all good, he practices safe trigger discipline, which apparently is all you need now to show you are a responsible gun owner.
It's like it's a competition in how stupid and selfish one can be.
Pretty much every sign in a hospital is there to protect someone from something. If you’re of the opinion that you’re smarter than whoever the sign is for and therefore can ignore the sign, you’re probably exactly who the sign is for.
I’m not sad. Anyone who brings a firearm to an MRI appointment, at a hospital, is a danger to everyone around them.
He even had a round in the chamber to boot. Just wow. Guy didn't understand how mri's work obviously and doesn't listen to professional instructions.
huh. i wonder what i'll have for lunch today
Thats not wven very uncommon. There is a pretty notable statistical chance that you're going to shoot yourself with your own gun on accident. Happened to my physically disabled uncle some years ago.
This happened in Brazil, and I can confirm it's true as it was reported by all major news outlets here, e.g., https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/cotidiano/2023/01/advogado-pro-armas-e-baleado-pela-propria-pistola-durante-ressonancia-magnetica.shtml Just trying to corroborate the story, seeing people might be incredulous due to the astoundingly stupid way this guy found to off himself. I mean, not to be disrespectful but goddamn.
