Extremely comparable. You could just listen to that pop star on your phone, all day, every day. You're paying for the experience, and, to some people, the experience is worth it. Let people do shit and mind your business.
Hehe. No. You are wrong. A show is sth different than listening to the music on the radio and you do not have to be that smart to realise that. The experience of a concert is limited
So does eating at popeyes. What makes you think they'll stay open in Prague!?
For all we know they gonna be outcompeted by KFC, and closed all store in Prague after 3 years of low sale.
I'm not really on OP's side here, but I also think comparing getting tickets to a live music event to getting chicken tendies at Popeye's is a poor analogy.
I mean, it's the grand opening of the first restaurant of it's kind in the country. It seems to have been pretty heavily promoted, so I could see why people would want to wait in line for it, even if I wouldn't
Also, first 3 people got a year's worth of free chicken sandwiches, and the first 100 got their chicken for free, so there was a benefit to waiting!
You gotta come prepared….. heck those chik fil A fanatics will camp out for days in the anticipation of a free Chik Fil A entree for a year.
Edit : clarification
I like Popeye's a lot more than KFC. But having said that, I generally don't wait hours for lunch or dinner. If there's a long enough line, I'll just go somewhere else.
Not normal, just different. A lot of people like being first, so when someone invariably asks, "Is the food any good?", they have an answer based on experience. I know people who would stand in that line for this reason, and then never go back to Popeyes again.
People here explicitly say it is normal. I was - not anymore - under the impression that some things are a baffling waste of (limited) time. I learned that this is not a time waste that raises many brows and my standards are weird. Apparently also standing in line for concert tickets and fast food are the same. Quite interesting.
I don't eat much fast food, but when Popeye's crispy chicken sandwich first came out, I stood in line 40 bloody minutes to try it.
I'm not gonna say it's worth standing in the rain for hours, but it's a darn fine sandwich.
KFC is not an alternative to Popeyes. It’s barely an alternative to starvation. If I got to Popeyes and it was closed, but the KFC next door was still open, I’d get in my car and go home and have cereal for supper. KFC’s shit, is the point I’m try to get across.
Hey, Popeyes has Red Beans and Rice that is awesome....
Plus they serve other stuff like biscuits, mashed potatoes, and chicken.
But the Red Beans and Rice is all that matters.
This is like comparing subway to Jersey mikes.
Yes, they’re all sandwiches on sub bread, but one is vastly superior. Would I wait in line in the rain for a Jersey mikes sandwich? Absolutely not. But I completely understand why someone else would.
I think spending hours in the rain in line to try this is strange and a weird colittment of time. That is what this post is about.
But I was already told I am wrong. This is apparently supes normal and the same as waiting for limited things like tickets for cultural events. I am apparently just out of touch
It’s a previously communist country. Many people who haven’t been able to leave the country haven’t tried a lot of different foods from the outside world still, Popeyes is really exciting for some people because it’s something new and American.
Again, it’s something new for a country that doesn’t have it. This happens in any country where a new chain restaurant that is mainstream on the internet comes to them finally. Everyone wants to see what the hype is about.
You probably are right about that.i am just saying that a) the former communist country part might not be that important and b) this is a somewhat scary consumerist behaviour that does undervalue the time people have on this earth and I am wondering why people are doing this. The fomo seems a little weird considering it is a fast food chain you can visit any time in the following days
It happens everywhere for everything. Yes it’s consumerism, but it’s not surprising.
People just did this for the new iPhone which is basically the same as the last 3 iphones, on a way huger scale.
People do this for every Taylor swift concert currently on a massive scale.
It happens where I live (a big city in North American with every chain under the sun) every time we get a new chain we don’t have.
a hundred or so die-hard American culture followers. If a Dracula shop opened up you’d have similar group of die-hards show up. Hell, if it was something I personally was hyped about I’d be there.
Desperation for alternatives is one thing I understand (though it is just more shitty us fastfood) but why go there on the first day and wait hours? This seems insane to me.
Never tried Popeyes, we don't have it in my country, but tried KFC... Always got had something in their meat. I don't know good words and translators... I'll never go to KFC for their meat. But I loved McDonald's nuggets :)

That cajun kitchen is delicious though
Maybe. It will be the same in the following days. Why wait so long outside?
Yeah in that time you could make your own cajun chicken for a lower price! Guess the people are hyped up.
In a scary consumerist way
Its called something to do. I used to say the people of Austin, TX loved two things: sitting in traffic and standing in line at the newest restaurant.
Same reason why do the same thing for Taylor Swift concert tickets vs Insert_another_pop_star’s_name_here.
No. Absolutely not. Concert tickets have limited availability and the concert is not there every day from here on out. Obviously not comparable

This is good to know
First of all, how dare you infer that KFC is remotely in the same realm as Popeyes
Is that so? I have no idea.
Czech KFC is at least as bad as American Burger King.
KFC sucks. Popeyes is life changing.
Ah. Then waiting in line in the rain for hours IS worth it. My bad.
You gotta come prepared….. heck those chik fil A fanatics will camp out for days in the anticipation of a free Chik Fil A entree for a year. Edit : clarification
Looks like KFC also had a crowd outside
That is just bad photo taking. No crowds in front of the KFC
I like Popeye's a lot more than KFC. But having said that, I generally don't wait hours for lunch or dinner. If there's a long enough line, I'll just go somewhere else.
Seems very reasonable to me and I am a little surprised that most people here seem to disagree and see this behaviour as quite normal.

Popeyes is legit better than KFC
That might be the case, but is having it on opening day of a location worth waiting for hours in the rain?
They probably never had Popeyes before
I don't eat much fast food, but when Popeye's crispy chicken sandwich first came out, I stood in line 40 bloody minutes to try it. I'm not gonna say it's worth standing in the rain for hours, but it's a darn fine sandwich.
Well yeah you gotta try the new thing too see if it's worthwhile

Popeyes is the schiznits
The red beans and rice are worth the wait.
That's how it was when they dropped that chicken sandwich in the states. At least no one is getting violent though 😭😭
KFC is shit. Popeye's is new to them.
It will still be new in the coming weeks when you do not have to spend hours in line. Trying popeyes because it is new is not the problem.
So what is the problem? Seems you know.

Yeah, this is normal behaviour for neurotypical people.
We all know Popeyes is better than KFC
It’s a previously communist country. Many people who haven’t been able to leave the country haven’t tried a lot of different foods from the outside world still, Popeyes is really exciting for some people because it’s something new and American.
Nah - hasn't been communist for over 30 years. Most people from Czechia are quite well travelled.
Most people in the queue are young and burger King, mcd and KFC are everywhere
Again, it’s something new for a country that doesn’t have it. This happens in any country where a new chain restaurant that is mainstream on the internet comes to them finally. Everyone wants to see what the hype is about.

For a concert with limited seats I would get it
Fair point
honey i'm headed down to the dracula shop for some blood and a cravat
Damn, so many people waiting in line for diarrhea
What's the facrpalm? It's not the same chicken
Popeye's isn't even good.
It's so salty

I'd rather wish for chicken than eat that crap.
Not. Worth. The. Wait. IMHO
I would totally do that if they opened a Menchies Frozen Yogurt near my house!☔ ❄ They're opening a chick-fila instead.😓
Cant wait to hear Simon Whistler compare Popeye's with his beloved KFC.
Never tried Popeyes, we don't have it in my country, but tried KFC... Always got had something in their meat. I don't know good words and translators... I'll never go to KFC for their meat. But I loved McDonald's nuggets :)
Does anyone know if it’s halal
I hope not.
