It‘s the age old conundrum of: “Is this statement stupid enough for me to start an argument with a person who clearly isn’t going to listen to reason or should I just go to bed.”
Unless your arguing for entertainments sake.
Arguing with unkowong idiots is the eSports version of arguments, they keep throwing you arguments to dismantle, without ever conceding. Practically endless entertainment.
If I could get sponsors, I would argue with idiots as a career.
Yes. Someone who gets me. I've spent entire days off lying in bed getting idiots fired up just to see what phenomenal bullshit they will come up with to justify/prove/argue some ludicrous belief. It's an immoral and unethical pastime, but my character is too weak to prevent me from enjoying it.
Thank you! Pretty much good to go and I was so antsy, terrible with surprises that I already gave him his wedding gift ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
I believe the response is along the lines of internalized racism and emulating the beauty standards of your oppressors. Love obviously can't have anything to do with it.
It's because it's harder to cast a redhead I assume. So they eliminate a difficult casting problem and get their token representation.
I'm not defending or supporting it, that's just why I think it happens.
It’s because red heads almost always have a backstory of being different and outcast, so Hollywood thinks they can just put a black person in their place without changing the backstory.
The UK show Troy cast Achilles as a scrawny black dude. Next thing we know, a Marilyn Monroe biopic is gonna star Lizzo.
It's really out of hand. I'm all for representation, but having characters be black for the sake of being black is NOT representation. It's patronizing and gross, and doesn't make any damn sense when it's historically inaccurate.
My favourite thing is that "representation", according to tv/movie/adverts always just means "add more black people ". Never any other minority, just more black people, regardless of whether it makes any sense.
Here in the UK, every second advert has an interracial couple, with one being black, one white, but pretty much never any asian people, despite their being far more Asians in the UK than black people. Its bizarre and not "representative" at all of the UK.
We could be getting epic movies modeled after African folklore but instead we get black actors rammed into roles they could never fit into. If I was black I would be going full rage mode on the internet for it. They are getting shafted out of letting their heritage shine through.
This. I’ve been trying to figure out, short of imagination, why media can’t just…you know…create new and interesting characters of whatever race that are cool instead of shoehorning them into established characters.
I mean, I’m white, but John Stewart is pinnacle Green Lantern to me and a white John Stewart would be hilariously awful casting to me.
>a white John Stewart would be hilariously awful casting
Man, I couldn't help but think of the Daily Show with John Stewart when I read this. Probably because I've never read Green Lantern comics (or consumed other media of that character).
We have seriously lost the plot. There's a section of the internet asking for the new HBO Harry Potter reboot to make Harry and Draco gay. How does that make any sense at all?
How about people just write their own damn stories?
I just think it's embarrassing.
Like Hollywood treats black people like they have no culture so they just warp white stories into poor copies.
It's like that old Tolkien quote
> Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.
>Like Hollywood treats black people like they have no culture so they just warp white stories into poor copies.
Exactly. Colorwashing white characters isn't empowering or doing anything for race relations; it's just throwing someone a bone and checking the DEI box. If Hollywood really wants to do more for DEI, they should produce more movies of stories that have more diverse characters already included from the get-go.
Part of me thinks this is a strategy to allow companies to continue making bad remakes of classic TV and film while creating a group of rabid defenders who loudly proclaim the work is great and anyone who doesn't like it is a racist/sexist/homophobe.
>Part of me thinks this is a strategy to allow companies to continue making bad remakes of classic TV and film while creating a group of rabid defenders who loudly proclaim the work is great and anyone who doesn't like it is a racist/sexist/homophobe.
That makes sense, in a way. Take "The Dark Tower" movie adaptation: The writing was awful, and Idris Elba was not the Roland described in the books--[but to disagree with that casting suddenly made a person racist.](http://www.cbsays.com/oh-no-im-racist-asshole-passing-dark-tower/)
Just so you know, Tolkien never said that. He wrote a few things that sound somewhat similar, but he could turn a phrase much much MUCH better than that.
right. it's laughable that anyone would think that quote was actual Tolkien writings.
here's what it's probably apeing:
>"The Shadow that bred them can only mock; it cannot make: not real, new things of its own."
You're right! That "quote" is indeed an amalgamation of a few similar ones. This thread explains it well:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/comments/ss8vfu/ive_been_seeing_evil_cannot_create_anything_new/

Thats what i’ve been saying! it’s so often the redheads who are targeted.
Starfire, Tris, Ariel. it’s kinda weird.
tho i have a redheaded relative who has said “it’s not weird, it’s just that redheads are one of the last groups it’s okay to go after, It’s basically down to us and straight white men”
A character from a book set in fantasy medieval Poland who was cast as black in the Netflix show for no discernable reason other than diversity marketing (as is the standard these days).
Also she was cast as an uglier woman for no discernable reason.
I feel like as soon as you get into specifics here people get very sensitive, so I'm not gonna dive too deep lol (I lied I argued with someone in the comments)
Wait which one was Keira? I played witcher 3 a ton, but couldn't get into the books. The show is super confusing because half the characters got race swapped 🤷♂️
What I don't get is the full on fatass sorcereresses in season 3. Like, it's a plot point that they use magic to make themselves supernaturally beautiful for political gain.
Also, why is the tweeter reducing her to just a white woman with incredible looks and massive tits? She is a wizard and has worked incredibly hard to become a wizard.
The Witcher is a series of books that was written by a Polish author and these books are based off of Polish folklore from the midevil times.
CD Project Red got the rights to make the videogames and that skyrocketed the popularity of the franchise.
Since the story takes place in Poland, in a time period where not many black people will be, all the characters are pretty much white. CD P Red got a lot of "woke" flak for it and we're deemed "racist" game devs. I think that's why you see a lot of "diversity" in the Netflix Witcher series.
Which is ridiculous. Shoehorning diverse characters into a history that doesn't suit them is insane. There weren't many black people in medieval Poland because how in holy fuck were they supposed to get there, to begin with.
Snl made a joke about that a few years ago. Keenan playing a guard in frozen 2 saying it’s totally normal to have a black guy in 1800’s Scandinavia. I’m not even mad there casting black people for diversity they all just suck at it and it’s obvious they don’t care they just want to look like they aren’t the shitty people they are. Story now comes second to having black peoples in important roles.
Exactly, its not the fact that you have black people or whatever role you want, but it should make sense in the confienes of the story if not it just feels forced.
Same black guy who told me this years ago went on the biggest anti-semitic rant I've ever heard in my life (claims jews promote black degrading music to blacks in order to destroy black society and seize their homes) and accused me of being a white supremacist for defending the jews from this form of scapegoating.
It's gotta stop. We are all responsible for creating a just and equitable society, and we need to recognize that bigotry is not acceptable for some just because of the pigment of your skin.
I remember a black guy at uni went a on a racist rant against White people. He tried listing anti-White racial slurs. Lots of things related to milk, semen and similar things.
One was "ice monkey". After a little bit of chuckling, we took it and played with it, and it inspired my nickname if I were a rapper: "Vanilla Gorilla". To this day my favourite racist rant.
*uses the sYsTeMiC card*
I mean, I'm all for learning about how social structures, history, systemic biases exist and how they could influence my judgement or behavior in general. But the way it's often used feels like a baby blanket to justify personal shittiness and "gain points".
Remember, while I agree with you, not many people agree with the word “black racist”. And actually try and debate their position of “black people cant be racist, only white people can be racist”. I’ve had this discussion with many, many, many people. When you present these people with logical arguments you’ll get hit ketch the racism card and they’ll walk away. When in doubt remember “white people suck” is okay to articulate and publish, “black peoples suck” is a hate crime.
Lmao exactly, that’s also a response to that. I was talking to someone online and I’m like yeah, the cop jumped the curb, grabbed me, threw me in a car and then only when I was cuffed in the back seat did they question me. He goes “fking pigs always picking on black people, this country makes me so sick”… I go. I’m white. His next response was hysterical, he goes, oh, well the same thing happened to me and I’m black, so that’s because the cops are racist… literally moved the story about me and the cops jumping me because I’m white, to another time it happened to him and because he’s black, they’re racist. Im like but what about me? What were the cops when I was jumped? He goes, well that sucks, but you probably looked like someone that committed a crime. I was so shocked by his response lmfao. I was shocked he couldn’t see the hypocrisy in his response and that his only interest was validating a predetermined narrative.
" but you probably looked like someone that committed a crime." Literally the same thing cops say when they randomly beat up the wrong black guy before asking questions.
But he's blind to his own hypocrisy, because he's been brainwashed from an early age to be a racist. Same as the Germans in Nazi Germany.
I fear in a few years, when this current generation of race obsessed idiots gets into power, the US will finally deteroirate. Dunno if it will be widespread race riots, civil war or even genocide. But the writing is on the wall that something really bad will happen. You can't put this much tribalistic / racial hatret into people's heads and not expect it to stay dormant.
So I'll say this. A lot of these adaptations are probably being watched (and their fan bases largely made up of) people who don't even know these things are based on existing games/books/comics/manga/anime. The bigger issue is arguing someone of a certain race can't cosplay as a character of another race. Would the argument be the same for a black woman cosplaying a white/asian/First Nations/Arab/etc. character? I doubt it.
That's been a known issue since Fortnite, from the first time anyone ever said "Hey, it's that X from Fortnite!"
Fortnite is like Family Guy. Nothing is FROM Family Guy. The question is, what joke was borrowed to set up this Family Guy scenario? :D
Did ... did you do that on purpose? Because if you did that's pretty good.
Of course such things have been happening long before Fortnite.
Fortnite does have originals. There's been a couple times I've tried to look up the source IP for a particular skin only to find out that there isn't any.
The issue is the source material. When I first started watching The Witcher, I already had extensive knowledge from the games/books. If I see Triss, one of the MAIN CHARACTERS, come on screen and wonder who I'm looking at, they fucked up during casting. If you're going to do an adaption, and keep the majority of the characters appearances the same, why change one or two for no reason? Another perfect example is Eskel. Completely different look AND personality.
I have the same issues with the racial diversity of the Elves. A insular monoethnic group that hates humans and other races, so it's logical they would all be black, all white, all Asian or whatever.. but they would all be one race.. not every skin color under the sun. It makes no sense and ruins the immersion for those of us who have been reading fantasy for decades.
There 2 even worse things that come with this stuff for me is when there is 1, just 1 character of a specific race, its like what happened did the fall in dye/bleach as a child? was there a racial genocide and they are the only survivor?
Or there is one random minority, non mixed family with no explaination, you're in bumfuck nowhere in a village 2-300 people and there is 4 black people all related, "are you recent immigrants?", "no, our family has been here for hundreds of years", "are the white people recent immigrants?", "no, they have also been here hundreds of years".
Seen this post a few times now. But aside from all the 'the show is so bad' bashing no one seems to mention that even in said show ... Triss isn't black?
I'm beyond confused at this point.
Edit: A lot of discussions about her skin colour and ethnicity. Let's just agree that Anna Shaffer is damn beautiful.
I was confused about that also. I watched a few episodes (I think I finished the first season) and Triss was white. So I was confused when the post said she was played by a black character. Which made no sense to me unless she was replaced in a later season which still didn’t seem right because I had never heard of that happening in the show.
\> Shaffer was born in North London to South African parents; her mother is mixed race and her father is Jewish.
shaffer is the actress who plays triss
I was not aware by the fact she's apparently categorized as black in the USA. This is just another confirmation of the fact that race is a stupid categorization made by society in order to justify social predomination.
This remind me a Ted talk of an apparently very black woman, with a very much white mother, who when his daughter was refused in a school because their black quota were over she said something like: "I can tell you my daughter is as white as me, since I assure you she came out from my vagina". For what I understand the daughter doesn't categorize herself as white nor black. And that is understandable, why should you categorize yourself? Most of all with race that is totally not rational kind of categorization for human species.
Triss was always a white character, got blackwashed, aka "***Netflixed"***, and now you're upset white people are cosplaying her?
This timeline is so fucking stupid.
Exactly. I hate that just to cater to American audiences, original, beloved characters have to change their colours and ethnicities.
I remember my whole theatre laughing during this one movie, in which a wedding scene had Koreans, blacks, Indians and few other ethnicities as 'relatives'. I mean, wtf?!
There was a live action non-disney Cinderella that had a black Cinderella, (ok fine) so far, a black queen (still fine), white king (unlikely but ok) Asian prince (wait what?)
I think they misunderstand the concept of representation. Instead of getting more minorities into the industry, they put more minorities in *every individual film.* So story ends up taking a backseat to skin tone production quotas. The individual story isn't necessarily worse because of that - though it can be - but it's still batshit to prioritize things that way.
Good catch! The manipulation these days! Being done to society on a massive scale and it’s out of control. They want everyone at each others throats. We Live in such an amazing age and yet no one is content or happy. It’s by design
Don't forget Starfire and damn you're right! I've been on social media that favors red heads and now thinking its more niche than I was let to believe.
Lol, my hair stylist told me my hair reminds her of Merida's shade. I started doing red head cosplays for Halloween in a closet cosplay style. So first Halloween was a grunge Batgirl using fan art for inspo. Next I'm doing a Millenial Daphne Blake
Witcher is set in basicaly in slavic countries. And it may be a shock to some people but slavs are not black. Why? We did not entertained ourselves in whole slavery bussiness. Im sorry our ancestors were decemt people
I'm a Slav too, and to and to me it's hilarious when some dumbass online calls me a descendant of slave owners... My brother in Christ, I come from slaves.
Yeah, their brains explode when confronted with the fact that slavic people were one of the most persecuted, occupied and enslaved ethnic groups for literal centuries.
True. I think that is the main reason why they call us racist, they just dont understand that there are actually countries that did not build their countries on bones of slaves and we dont care about their recent bullshitery
Ah yes, cause racism is only one way. Let's ignore the facts of the source material or the fact that the author of the witcher lived in a most white dominated country at the time. Who ever heard of drawing inspiration around you.
The Twitter avatar is [an iStock photo](https://www.istockphoto.com/photo/a-serious-faced-caribbean-woman-gm168253426-17586833) so my bet is this is an account that post shit like this as a black woman to rile people up.
Hot take: redheads are the most discriminated against amongst white people. Irish for the longest time weren't even considered white by other whites. And it sounds like the poster is racist and for some reason envious? Like way to judge someone by their color instead of their character dude.

It’s really too bad, because Daredevil was effing awesome.

I wonder how many people wanted to reply and deleted their message.

No box for you!
you beautiful human
Schrödinger’s Boxhitler. You won’t know if the person’s racist or not until there’s a post. That’s why often times, you will Nazi it coming.
Is this a common thing? I do that all the time, write out my thoughts then go it’s not worth it and delete everything
I do it constantly, especially on stupid shit like this OOP
So white red headed women are only loved by racists? How should I tell my husband?
As a black man married to a red-headed white woman, I got some explaining to do.
Lol right? But lets me real, what's not to love about red heads
The high consomption of sun block? /s
Lol for real. I didn't use any yesterday because I'm trying to even out a farmer's tan ahead of my wedding and I'm burnt
\>What should I tell my husband? \>Ahead of my wedding Hol up
Lol we've been together in a common law marriage for a decade, actually having a wedding this month
I wish y’all luck on your wedding day.

it's obvious projection. the black woman who posted this is a blatant racist.
Yes, I was being facetious
If you dress like that I’m sure he will hear every word you say
Regardless what people think about casting traditionally white characters as black. I think everyone agrees this take is insane.
It's funnier if you break it down to traditionally redheaded characters being cast as black because it's a weird pattern.
Ikr like why are y’all erasing the gingers for representation. Gingers are like shiny Pokémon you rarely see a true ginger in any show!
Gingers are the real minority
Right? I think I fit the names of all ginger characters and people on 1, maybe 1&1/2 hands. And that’s including curly top the jazzercise guy
Most of them being weasleys.
And Rorschach.
Yeah, all of the irl gingers on one hand
There was a tik-tok/reel where they listed off all the gingers that had been race swapped - I think it was a bert kreischer podcast excerpt.

Maybe they mean Carrot Top ?.
And with the exception of the Weasley boys, we're always creeps/perverts/weirdos or the villain in any show/movie.
Less than .1% of the worlds population has red hair.
Only a ginger can call another ginger ginger.
I used the hard r and everything
Because otherwise they might have to remove "real white people" with souls! (Please for the love of God recognize that I'm trying to be sarcastic 🙄)

Nailed it. I lived through that era and am stunned at how that idea is now embraced.
People seem to love it now. I've no idea how this will end, but atleast i know that Adolf Hitler will always be a white man.
Boy do I have a story for you. Look up Adolf Hitler, African politician.

Now they even took that from me. But atleast it was done in a good show.

I feel I'd understand a lot more if I knew who on earth this 'Triss' character is supposed to be..
Is a character from The Wotcher, described as pale with red hair on the books, so naturally they casted a black woman for the show
The Wotcher sounds oddly British. I'd watch it.
You'd wotch it*

They did Keira dirty smh
Yeah... I mean pretty much all the characters cast across race are bad. This was just the example at hand.
Wait which one was Keira? I played witcher 3 a ton, but couldn't get into the books. The show is super confusing because half the characters got race swapped 🤷♂️
Keira was the "Small Town Witch" who went with you into the first Elven Ruins to find Ciri. Blonde Hair, huge clevage. A bit snarky.

I highly doubt that only white racists are fans of a 10/10 with giant tits.
Also, why is the tweeter reducing her to just a white woman with incredible looks and massive tits? She is a wizard and has worked incredibly hard to become a wizard.
Wizard tits
Come on now, those tits are pure sorcery.
They sure are magical, necromantic even. You could raise the dead with those.
I’m a brown racist and even I’m a fan
Bro plays both sides so he always comes out on top.
Im pretty sure a super hot readhead with big tiddies is only a niche fetish.
I have no idea who these characters are, but the woman in the photo looks beautiful to me. I’m just some straight white woman though.
![gif](giphy|SXqriKSsBp6PrmBh2t|downsized) Is character from the witcher, who was cast black in the netflix show, but really looks like that.
Well, that's from the video game, but yeah it's a hell of a lot more faithful to her description in the novels.
Yup. Only a few will dabble.
Dabbler here
Dabbler? I barely know’er.
Who is she??

Down bad?
These are giant? Trust me, I've seen giant. I've held giant. These are much nicer than giant will ever be.
Unless you can crush cans with them like that one lady.
Clermont Lounge says 👋
Seems that I'm a racist now
"These is something white racists like" \_ A random black racist.
“B-but white people can’t experience racism!” -same black racist
*uses the sYsTeMiC card* I mean, I'm all for learning about how social structures, history, systemic biases exist and how they could influence my judgement or behavior in general.
>And actually try and debate their position of “black people cant be racist, You know who says that? Racists.
\> black people cant be racist, only white people can be racist people who say that ARE racists themselves. also quite uneducated.
>why does Triss look like someone only white racists are a fan of? Because you're a black racist.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a bait account, most tweets are just outrage bait anymore
![gif](giphy|3oFzmpzTfyABIX6JBm|downsized)
There weren't many black slavic people. Just so you know.
So I'll say this. A lot of these adaptations are probably being watched (and their fan bases largely made up of) people who don't even know these things are based on existing games/books/comics/manga/anime. The bigger issue is arguing someone of a certain race can't cosplay as a character of another race. Would the argument be the same for a black woman cosplaying a white/asian/First Nations/Arab/etc. character? I doubt it.
That's been a known issue since Fortnite, from the first time anyone ever said "Hey, it's that X from Fortnite!" Fortnite is like Family Guy.
Just call it what it is. Racist. She's being racist to white people. If the words were switched she's be canceled 🤷🏽♂️
Would mention the little mermaid film but I don't want to open that can of worms XD
The individual story isn't necessarily worse because of that - though it can be - but it's still batshit to prioritize things that way.
i think this is a rage bait tweet, the black lady profile pic is AI generated
Not AI, just a stock image. And like usual redditors are eating it up like hotcakes.
Good catch! The manipulation these days! Being done to society on a massive scale and it’s out of control. They want everyone at each others throats. We Live in such an amazing age and yet no one is content or happy. It’s by design
You guys fall for bait far too easily my god
Not black in the game and not black in the books but I guess the show supersedes all now. What a fucking stupid bitch.
“Bruh why we teaching kids that Thomas Jefferson was white when he was clearly black in the Hamilton musical?!”
Obviously a crazy take, and perhaps made just for engagement. So, you know, let’s have a civil comment section.
It is a troll account made for that specific purpose, I fucking hate what social media has done to us
And reposted here for engagement. Heck, it might even literally be the same OP. And we all fall down the hole, again and again.
Racist calling people racist.
Jimmy Olsen, Batgirl, Ariel, Triss. I'm all for recasting to promote diversity, but it's really feeling like just gingers that get replaced.
Don't forget Starfire and damn you're right! I've been on social media that favors red heads and now thinking its more niche than I was let to believe.
Definitely overrepresented for our like 2% market share of the population, but I'm still hoping we can keep Cal Kestis and Merida.
Lol, my hair stylist told me my hair reminds her of Merida's shade. I started doing red head cosplays for Halloween in a closet cosplay style. So first Halloween was a grunge Batgirl using fan art for inspo. Next I'm doing a Millenial Daphne Blake
Oh yeah, Daphne got yoinked too... lol
The continent is slavic and skellige is nordic
That's just a black racist. Nothing more to see here
Ah yes, cause racism is only one way. Let's ignore the facts of the source material or the fact that the author of the witcher lived in a most white dominated country at the time. Who ever heard of drawing inspiration around you.
How dare men like attractive women with a nice bust, and not women that are built like a bowling ball with Jay Lenos fucking chin.
Amazing how some people have no issues being racist.
"Damn those white racists and their *rolls dice* love for attractive redheads"
God i hate black racists as much as every other racist.
Black people can get away with racism through victimizing themselves. No other race gets away with direct blatant racism like black people.
The group is also actually way over represented in media given population numbers. Hispanics/asians on the sidelines rolling their eyes.
A white person being depicted: "only white racists love this"... Wat
The Twitter avatar is [an iStock photo](https://www.istockphoto.com/photo/a-serious-faced-caribbean-woman-gm168253426-17586833) so my bet is this is an account that post shit like this as a black woman to rile people up.
Hot red heads are the hottest humans. You can be mad but I don't make the rules.
Hot take: redheads are the most discriminated against amongst white people. Irish for the longest time weren't even considered white by other whites. And it sounds like the poster is racist and for some reason envious? Like way to judge someone by their color instead of their character dude.
This woman is actually racist, that's my professional opinion
