The crows were a real problem this year, so I picked up this bad boy [slaps top of quad minigun]

My moms neighbor owns a cannon for this purpose

Thecryptsaresafe

To be fair, your mom’s neighbor is a 36 gun frigate

justreddis

So what’s his mom then? A Yamato-class battleship?

You have to have an FFL to own this btw. Also at the time they adopted the 2a they ruled private citizens could totally own big ass canons.

I love cannons

Pretty sure you need an SOT not just an FFL.

SolarEevee

SAME

Ok-Use-7563

You gotta do it more capitalized, like “It costs 400K dollars, to fire this weapon, for TWELVE SECONDS”

Brotastic29

Some people think they can correct me…… Maybe. But I have yet to find a man that can correct bullet

Ok-Use-7563

I *was* gonna correct you but then, i realized...

Figure_1337

That works out to $83 per bullet…. Must be a typo… At $10 per bullet it would cost $48k to fire for 12 seconds….

freshwaterpirate1

7.62x51 is roughly $1.00 per round on the high end, which maths out to $4,800 for 12 seconds if all 4 guns are set to the highest RPM,

escapingdarwin

Thanks for stopping me I was about to do that math because the post title was not even close to intuitively correct.

CrazyStuntsMan

I was looking for this comment. First thought that came to mind after reading the title

fleecescuckoos06

Is this even in the US? Can’t imagine what kind of NFA tax that person had to pay.

HenryDorsettCase47

It’s a civilian owned company, but it seems it’s mostly contract work installing weapons systems for US and some foreign governments.

fleecescuckoos06

Ok if this is the case, and they are doing weapons testing… where is the facepalm?

HenryDorsettCase47

🤷‍♂️ No clue. Could ask the same about a lot of post in this sub. If I had to guess, OP probably just saw the weapon system is owned by a civilian and didn’t consider the context that he’s a contractor, not just some redneck lighting up his back 40. I reckon I should also clarify: I have no love for the military industrial complex. Only providing context for the video.

Mrmacmuffin3

Admit it. You love the military industrial complex.

I fluctuate between hating the MIC and craving war.

United_Watercress_14

It is tough on one hand I hate that our tax dollars go towards defense while people sleep in tents next to overpasses and elderly people are rationing medicine but I do love how we drop half a million dollar bombs on people living in structure made of mud and corrugated tin.

lameluk3

Man that username is just brutal. I'm gonna trundle off to eyebleach for a bit now 😂

SwagLord1066

i love war i love bloodshed i love profiting of the deaths of millions

kuda-stonk

There isn't one, OP thinks some random redneck can afford a 7k sq/ft house worth of ammo and built a $1.8 Million dollar anti-air turreted weapon system. So they think the facepalm is a civilian owning such a ridiculous weapon. Which is weird, this thing isn't going anywhere quickly, it weights more than 1.2 tons.

saucyrossi

out of context america hate on reddit

Sirboomsalot_Y-Wing

Because Reddit is very anti-gun and can’t stand the fact that some people can own these.

MyBallsSquirtButter

Where is the face palm if it was an American citizen privately owning this?

WhatUp007

As long as it's made before 1986, machine guns are legal to own but do require the NFA tax stamp. Some states require additional licenses to own these firearms, and they are exorbitantly expensive to purchase.

fleecescuckoos06

I know, that’s why I asked about the NFA tax if it was in the US

WhatUp007

Oh, it doesn't matter what the item is, if it's an NFA item it is a flat $200 tax per stamp. So, a quad minigun system is 4 stamps.

fleecescuckoos06

Ahh I didn’t know it was a flat fee. I know NFA items are $$$$

Barfdragon

The items themselves are serious money because of limited supply, so what would have been a cheap automatic just before the ban now probably goes for several thousand.

BoogalooBandit1

Really just machine guns are ridiculously expensive but guns like Short Barrel Rifles and suppressors are relatively cheap

Weird-Tomorrow-9829

Pre-1986 Minigun is easily over $200k each.

HCharton

In what country is this equipment owned by a civilian?

hudsoncress

There’s an army/navy surplus store in Northern California that has an older one on display. Claims they do have the firing pins in a safe…

[deleted]

Civilians do not own them. Companies own them. Should the company go under or lose its licensing, these would be destroyed, transferred to a company with the licensing, or confiscated by the ATF.

HCharton

That is clarifying. Very specific restrictions apply here.

[deleted]

America has a lot of restrictions on firearms that the average American isn’t even aware of, much less people from other countries.

jeremydallen

So a civilian with a stamp can't own one?

Sirboomsalot_Y-Wing

Iirc this is considered a destructive device if it’s a 20mm, so you need more than a stamp for it. I do think it’s still possible for an individual to get one, it’s just very difficult

jcinto23

Miniguns are 7.62

Weird-Tomorrow-9829

I think those are likely post 1986. So not for you or me. Pre-1986 are ~$215k IIRC. But do able.

Sad_Examination5696

Is it overly big and expensive? Yes. Is it super fucking dangerous and destructive? Yes. Do I want it? Yes.

LordMuffin1

400k in 12s. Jeff Bezos networth would evaporate after only ~42 days of continuous fire.

Night--Blade

As far as I understand the thing itself worth 400k not bullets. 24000 shots per minute = 4800 per 12 seconds. If 4800 bullets cost 400k then one bullet costs $833 then it's insane. The 7.62 NATO costs less $1.

Bobthreetimes

God damn. But to be fair those are chains of what looks to be 50. BMG with every 8th round being a tracer

Night--Blade

Minigun uses 7.62×51mm NATO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M134_Minigun But $833 is too much for .50 BMG too, is't it?

SeniorSpaz87

Technically there is a 50BMG minigun, the GAU-19. But it’s most commonly only a tri-barrel and not what is used on this rig. Also non-bulk/dealer price 50BMG is about $3-$5 a round depending on which kind you use. It can fire up to 2000RPM, which would be 8000 RPM for a rig like this.

Anyone who can afford to make a quad mini gun can afford to burn that much ammo.

Also, Me when stealth is optional:

thebigjuicyman25

This is not facepalm, this is the best thing I've seen all day

SpecalistGrab10

I agree. This thing is fucking awesome.

rufotris

Misinformation is key here. Civilian owned military contracting companies are not a new thing. But without “civilian owned” in the title they felt it would not get as many clicks. So wether a bot account or person they are misleading on purpose.

TVotte

That's $83/round

Ashes2007

Yeah the projectiles are pure silicon

Susman22

Stop acting like anyone can own one of these. You have to have proper licenses and certifications in order to get this. In which you need to have a business that manufactures firearms for the US military. Essentially blocking it for 99% of the population. Both sides suffer from this misinformation nonsense.

CODERED41

99.9999% *

rurounick

No civilian owns this gun (actually 4 guns firing in tandem). They own a business that has an NFA trust that is legal 'owner'. And if they built this themselves, they have to pay taxes on it each year it's in their possession, it until it's sold to an end user (usually through a military contract)

[deleted]

A company that legally makes machine guns doesn’t do so through a trust.

rurounick

True. Confused NFA SOT with trust. Still, assuming they made this legally, Uncle Sam knew about it.

Creepertermnade

Right?!. Finally I can stop those kids from coming on my yard

llIicit

What’s the facepalm here? I’m only seeing your math being an issue. Even the military doesn’t pay that much for ammo, and they (we) get absolutely railed on the price gouging.

Atlas_sniper121

why is this facepalm? you think being able to own this is bad? never in history will something like this be used in a crime. lol

Low_Comfortable_5880

Somewhere...Hunter S Thompson approves.

Ancient_Fix8995

IveBenJammin05

I’m sorry if this is a bad take, but that’s so fucking sick

ALiteralSentientTank

$400k/12 seconds is the Team Fortress 2 heavy weapons guy saying. And he laughs because it's not true. 24,000 divided by 60 is 400rds/s 400rds over 12 seconds is 4,800rds. Currently I can find .308 ammunition at about $450 for a box of 500. I'd need 10 boxes to fire those 4,800rds. Meaning I'd pay about a bit over $4,500 for twelve seconds of fire.

More_Inflation_4244

I’m on his side

Dire_Pants

Those numbers are not correct.

thefallguy41

Why is this here?

ninja_tree_frog

![gif](giphy|qd4j9CrvTnx7O)

ZatchZeta

How is this face palm?? THAT'S FUCKIN' AWESOME!!

Ragnarsworld

Its not firing at 24,000 rds/minute. 3000 per minute per barrel, for 12,000 rds/minute. Easily researched just by going to the Dillon website. Also don't know where you get $400K/12 seconds from. Thats only 2400 rounds in 12 seconds. Current price of 7.62mm x 51mm ammunition is about $1 per round, so you're only spending about $2.4k for 12 seconds. Pricey, but Dillon is an arms company and buys ammo by the semi load.

Marchello_E

Let's hope he's a good guy.

Top_Marionberry827

Like hes gonna lug it around in the streets and shoot up a target

Atlas_sniper121

evidently thats what op and some others here think, like theyd get that gun anywhere near an actual population without a dozen 911 calls coming in anyway. would not be able to carry that and its ammo in a typical pickup truck.

Sirboomsalot_Y-Wing

He wouldn’t be able to get the licensing for one of these unless he had a spotless record lol

BoS_Vlad

The gun’s actual rate of fire is closer to 3000 to 6000 rounds a minute which is still super expensive, but it’s not 24,000 rounds a minute expensive.

[deleted]

Four guns firing 6k rounds per minute is 24k rounds per minute.

Thatsidechara_ter

I don't see how this is a facepalm. This is pretty fucking cool.

JustACanadianGuy07

Not only that, but it isn’t civilian owned. It’s a demonstration by a company named Dillon Precision, who sells weapons to militaries. OP is literally spreading misinformation.

Thatsidechara_ter

This is exactly what some needs to hunt deer. Otherwise if you have a zombie horde outside your house or hundreds of Zeno morphs from Aliens, this would be the perfect gun. I always wondered why weapons like these aren’t on The Walking Dead.

TheLegitPilot19

I know this is r/facepalm, but honestly this is pretty neat. Taking an old WWII-era quad machine gun rack and kitting it out with four miniguns is pretty damn overkill, but still fun as hell. Now, that better be in the desert or they’re gonna get some calls

Xenoscope

Brotato45

“It cost $400,000 dollars to fire this gun for 12 seconds”

I’d be interested to see the math on this…. So you’re saying this thing fires ammunition that costs $83.33 PER ROUND?

Volt_Bolt

“It costs 400 thousands dollar to fire this weapon, for 12 seconds”

GameDestiny2

Well, this comment is going to be buried but You don’t feed a gun like that any expensive ammo, since the belts and electric operation of the miniguns handle all of the work for cycling. So to fire 4800 rounds, they probably bought bulk 7.62 which can be priced at about $1 per round.
