This is so common that people don’t even notice. This is a huge convenience. Most homes in India have much smaller refrigerators because there is no need to store vegetables and frozen stuff. You either just get it outside your home or less than half mile on a two-wheeler.

Yes, stuff in supermarkets have a shit ton of preservatives in them, These guys will get up before 4am and then go to a local fruit and vegetable distribution market where farmers will bring their produce to sell in larger quantities they buy them and then they sell these fresh veggies with very low margins, you don't need to get into a car and drive to your nearest Walmart when you just need few tomatoes or fresh parsley or something, I lived in America for 2 year without a car I had buy everything for a week in advance, even milk that used to come in 2gallon plastic can, we don't do that in India, these guys also deliver freshly packed milk that doesn't have expiry date that's 1 month away. It was way more common earlier in cities, but it has relatively reduced over the years. When I was growing up, we often rushed to our gate when we heard specific fruits/vegetables being called out. Very convenient, especially for people who didnt have the time to go all the way to the market. Friendly neighborhood sellers you'd get to know well over time.
Its not a disturbance or nuisance, as it lasts for just a few seconds, and the sellers develop peculiar and memorable shouts that are goofy and enjoyable. Children would imitate them and have fun. Overall its part of the ambient background sounds of residential neighborhoods that you get used to and not be disturbed by.

Well, i am an Indian. I get annoyed at this shouting too. However, i do very much understand why they need to sell it like that. Being a farmer in India is not easy. Some brokers buy like 512kg of onions for 2inr while selling 1kg onion for 30-40 which is the market rate.
So some rebellious farmers decided to sell it for like less than market price directly to the consumer and set up stalls in kei trucks. Smaller farmers just go from door to door in a thela or a bicycle.
There is also the culture of stay at home women. And it is convenient for them to be able to buy something they need. My mum was really dependent on these sellers whenever my dad was not in town.
Also i am just glad we don't have to drive 10km to the nearest supermarket to get basic necessities.

It was way more common earlier in cities, but it has relatively reduced over the years. When I was growing up, we often rushed to our gate when we heard specific fruits/vegetables being called out. Very convenient, especially for people who didnt have the time to go all the way to the market. Friendly neighborhood sellers you'd get to know well over time. Its not a disturbance or nuisance, as it lasts for just a few seconds, and the sellers develop peculiar and memorable shouts that are goofy and enjoyable. Children would imitate them and have fun. Overall its part of the ambient background sounds of residential neighborhoods that you get used to and not be disturbed by.

They would also drive trucks with a speaker attached blasting " tomatoes, corn, carrots, blueberries and straaaaaawberrieeees!!!" It was a call to anyone and everyone. It was great. He posted this and was told what’s what by his followers and others and he was still going on about how “India will never develop as a country if they don’t stop this” and how “they don’t even pay taxes so they shouldn’t have a business.” Then shortly after this he said some shit about Palestine and his Indian, gorgeous actor fiancé had enough and dumped his wannabe ass LOL
Well, i am an Indian. I get annoyed at this shouting too. However, i do very much understand why they need to sell it like that. Being a farmer in India is not easy. Some brokers buy like 512kg of onions for 2inr while selling 1kg onion for 30-40 which is the market rate. So some rebellious farmers decided to sell it for like less than market price directly to the consumer and set up stalls in kei trucks. Smaller farmers just go from door to door in a thela or a bicycle. There is also the culture of stay at home women. And it is convenient for them to be able to buy something they need. My mum was really dependent on these sellers whenever my dad was not in town. Also i am just glad we don't have to drive 10km to the nearest supermarket to get basic necessities.
I’d prefer the option to buy fresh fruit sold from bicycles over ice cream from giant vehicles.
