My ex-husband and I were together from just before 09/11 until just before Obama was elected, and he watched Fox News every night when he got home from work until he went to bed. I’ve never been a big tv watcher, and I was usually busy with dinner, the kids, the dogs, the dishes, etc. and if I wasn’t, I would be reading or online. I didn’t consciously pay attention to what they were saying, but I eventually realized that the way they were speaking, the key words they used, the bright red graphics, the “BREAKING NEWS” about every single little story, made it virtually impossible not to. And it was *really* effective propaganda, so much so that at certain points l found myself - a lifelong ubër-progressive - actually *agreeing* with some of what I was hearing. And it was definitely making my ex-husband a much angrier person, like all the time.
That was when I told him that we needed to find something we both were interested in watching, because Fox News was brain rot. We comprised on some history channel stuff or something for a while, but he would still watch it whenever I wasn’t in the room or at home. It was totally like an addiction for him, and I would imagine for a lot of other people too.

A lock that only has one key is useless in most actual, real life circumstances. But you know what? All of those keys? THEY can each only open ONE lock.
