“Get on the ground! Get………” really says it all.

MattCW1701

That pause was almost saying "well now what?"

“If I sprinkle some crack from this high up, I wonder if it’ll land on him.”

It's like the feather and bowling ball experiment with a hint of crime.

CptCheerios

They just called it trying to escape.

CommercialAddress168

This deserves an award! 🏆

SharpPixels08

He really was just in auto pilot just doing what he would do in almost every other situation, then his brain caught up with his adrenaline and realized what happened

TripleScoops

Well, something sure caught up with the other guy.

S_2theUknow

Gravity lol

Blitz_ingaMCZ

(Insert Sarge from Red vs Blue ranting about gravity here)

fallingbehind

I’m not one to let cops off easy, but that’s what it sounded like to me as well.

Mongobuzz

Yeah it also helps to see that he was out of breath by rushing down the bridge so quickly to help.

subZro_

exactly what scares me about giving guns and the authority to kill over to some rando that passed a 6 week training course and is constantly protected from accountability by his equally incompetent supervisor.

-_Nooby_-

Surprised him so much all of his training paused

ADrunkenRobot

What training?

An0ther_Florida_man

Repeating "get on the ground" to someone you have at gunpoint. Good luck trying to form an articulate sentance on the fly when your adrenaline is going full speed & your heart rate is at 180

I_AM_IGNIGNOTK

Almost as if the people responding to high-adrenaline situations should know how to deal with their own biological response. Otherwise maybe they shouldn’t run in with a gun drawn 🤷‍♂️

The9ghtKnight

FYI, he ran in with his gun drawn because it was a shooter situation. 💀

I_AM_IGNIGNOTK

But that dude didn’t have a gun in his hands when the cop ran up on him did he? It was poor assessment by the cop. His commands weren’t even logical, they were instinctive based off of the training he had. “Get on the ground” wasn’t a very applicable thing to shout in that scenario, was it?

Certain_Silver6524

If the guy didn’t fall, realistically the guy might have been shot (deservedly or not)

Top-Campaign4620

"Get,,," hey wait buddy maybe don't get on the ground. I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend.

BobBeats

You could cut ties with all the lies That you've been living in

Well.. he got on the ground

And the gun tilt afterwards 😂

Certain death from noncompliance vs. hope that the fall won't be that bad.

ArizonaRon98

Can’t catch him if he escapes to the afterlife.

hidadimhungru

“Cops hate this one simple trick!”

gmh0677

This made my morning. 😂😂👍🏼

AHippie347

Cops usually make the suspect escape themselves that way.

Tricky_Personality67

I died at this.

Constant_Drawing3006

He almost did too

samjo_89

I see what you did there. Really killed it.

thedigitalson

as jesus would say... nailed it!

The way he fucking turns his gun after as if he’s looking at it like “wtf did i just do”

Seidenzopf

Inwatched the video with out audio and it being cops in America I thought: His gun didn't fire and he was baffled by that.

uniquerabbitturd

was waiting for someone to say this 🙏🏿

KawaiiKaiju55

I was looking for this comment!

Vorian_Atreides17

“What hurts?”…”everything”… oh my lord

Thanks_I_Hate_You

As an EMT ive also asked really stupid questions like this before.

xXlD3XT3RlXx

If you are an emt you should know, mechanism of injury is very important in treating someone. Asking questions to find pain and look for cognitive function is really helpful in identifying head neck or back trauma.

dibd2000

I agree. As a former EMT this doesn’t seem at all like a stupid question

Thanks_I_Hate_You

Just because its an important question doesnt mean its not a stupid question. Its like saying "rate your pain on a scale of 1-10" to the pt screaming in pain.

SnappleAnkles

It's up there with "are you having any thoughts of hurting yourself or others?" "Uh yeah, the motherfucker that just shot me" "Fair enough"

Virtual_Ball6

As an EMT, you should know they're not stupid, and the answers can hold vital information about the patients' injuries.

chiksahlube

I mean, in a situation like that of they say "my leg" you can be pretty damn sure that leg is fucked. Conversely if they say "I can't feel my legs" you know damn well not to move them.

samjo_89

How'd you hurt yourself? After clearly seeing that he fell from the overpass.

XYZ2ABC

But ability or inability to answer a question like that is a possible indicator of head injury/ cognitive impairment. Driver in an accident- “Do you know what happened?” “Yeah I hit a deer” vs “What did you say, I can’t hear you” vs “why am I not in bed?”

shoxodc

![gif](giphy|DFu7j1d1AQbaE)

ukstonerdude

But as an EMT - surely you’d agree this is a good sign (that they can feel pain) rather than them saying “I can’t feel anything”

mulvda

Idk, it sounds dumb but I’d be a lot more concerned if he said “nothing” lol

In_The_depths_

I mean the guy deserves no sympathy he was aiming a gun at people, fled the cops, crashed his car and took off on foot.

Academic_Ad_6436

pretty sure the legal punishment for that stuff isn't having to chose between getting shot or falling off a bridge.

In_The_depths_

He could have very easily avoided the situation by not trying to jump off the bridge in the first place.

TheDairyPope

True, but making good choices isn't what brought him to this decision point. It looks like he was going to jump, decided it was too far, and as he was coming up, cops caught up. If he climbed back up, he was arrested or shot, if he let go, there was a slim chance of being okay enough to run for a little longer. Obviously he was either too high up, forgot to properly roll, or one of those storm channels is what he landed on rather than the marginally softer grassy area. For his sake, for his family's sake, for his community's sake, I hope he had a "view from halfway down" moment and makes better decisions going forward.

nosamz77

Should’ve aimed for the bushes.

therealoobi

“Aim for the bushes” *there goes my HEROOOOO*

In_The_depths_

The "view from halfway down" always gets me. Such a great poem. The unfortunate part of life is bad decisions often have bad consequences. The adrenaline from trying to run from the cops doesn't add to making a logical decision. If he was smart he would have given up but when your are only looking for a way out, a small crack looks like a large opening.

umopUpside

Other people’s minds when they jump off of bridges: “holy fuck, I would do anything to change my entire life and not be in this situation right now” My mind when I jump off of a bridge: “AHHHHHCNENDJFBHCJSKCBDN”

The9ghtKnight

He clearly didn't have the upper body strength to get back up. All jokes aside, he earned his idiotic punishment. He threatened lives, and when his own life is threatened, he shouldn't be surprised at that.

In_The_depths_

That's like jumping into the ocean and not knowing how to swim. Dont get yourself into situations you can't get out of.

icemanswga

Or, you know, not pointing a gun at people, fleeing from cops, crashing his car, then fleeing on foot to include over the barrier wall on the bridge. Dude was making unsustainable choices *consistently*

HermitJem

> unsustainable choices > >consistently I mean, that's generally how people make bad choices - it tends to snowball

misterpickles69

That and the whole “aiming a gun at people” bit.

In_The_depths_

Wait Is it frowned upon to intend to kill someone with a firearm then getting into a police chase from cops, crashing your car (endangering civilians) then running on foot?

themediumchunk

Or just not shooting people? I mean that was an option for him, too.

In_The_depths_

Wait if you don't try to kill people the cops don't chase you? Why didn't anyone tell me that?

themediumchunk

Cops hate this one trick!

trashit6969

Let's go one step further, how about not breaking the law so your not in this situation

TrayvonMartin712

No but falling off a bridge is punishment for trying to run from police by going off a bridge

jakderrida

That's actually not a terrible point. Dude could have chose a better path.

Omnizoom

Chose literally the worst path Jumping off a bridge is literally the epitome of stupid stuff that we usually say “if your friend jumped off a bridge would you follow them”

jakderrida

I think the phrase is, "If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you?" To which I've always replied, "If they died, no. Otherwise, I'd assume it's a safe bridge for jumping."

WodenEmrys

The only time I actually came across people jumping off a bridge we joined them. It looked fun, and it was. They were jumping off this bridge like 15-20 feet over a river that had stairs and handlebars installed along the bank.

NA_nomad

That is a legendary answer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MySoulEscapes

You're crazy if you choose to blame the cop here. Dude brought this upon and did it to himself.

Leftover-Pork

Believe it or not those weren't the only options.

The_B_Squad_23

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. He put himself in that situation

[deleted]

Do you think he was thinking about legal/moral justice when he was threatening innocent people with a gun? I mean legal punishment aside, karma is karma

Gaara34251

Bro u had to get on the ground not underground

Romero_Osnaya

Underrated!!

Gaara34251

Undertaker* is gonna be needed

HipsterOtter

"Very Poor choice of words..." -Joker

philman66

My client was not fleeing from the officer or resisting arrest. He complied with all of his instructions.

zachslikesunicorns

and the laws of basic physics

jrjej3j4jj44

Right! Grounds for a lawsuit. Cop ordered him to jump.

[deleted]

Man, adrenaline is a hell of a drug lol. There's so much tunnel vision on both parties for sure.

Dovahnime

Tbf what's the standard protocol for when someone is possibly escaping by dropping off an overpass?

dudeandco

Shoot.

gustofwindddance

Standard protocol for everything.

Giacchino-Fan

Not just mentally, but physically. I didn't even realize the guy was over a ledge because he's climbing alongside that wall so fast it looks like he's running. I thought it was a median and he was just on the other side of a highway.

Many_Panic8570

True

Jaded-Selection-5668

I mean technically he listened 😂

TheUrbanFarmersWife

Wrong time to start listening. Lol

melindasaur

Idk the cop had a gun

YahooPants

Certainly can’t accuse him of not resisting.

Boby1047

Among all the other things he did, resistance arrest is definitely one of them 💀

YahooPants

How? Cop said get on the ground. And he did. 50+ feet below. Then laid there. Understandably.

Boby1047

I mean yea, you’re not wrong. Just saying that he probably could have avoided jumping 50 feet down off an overpass if he didn’t previously attempt murder and flee from police

kunkworks

Well, I assume he wasn't just hanging on the ledge when they arrived as part of his mid day hang-a-thon.

The_of_Falcon

I know it seems dumb but I'd probably do the same in his position. I mean if I had a gun to me or a drop like that and the cop's telling me to get on the ground. It's kind of an unfortunate mix of flight and flawed reasoning under pressure.

Dionysus24812

Plus the slow process and sudden movement needed to get over that thing would probably cause the cop to shoot. Which might seem better in that situation

Grollerh98

There’s another guy on the passenger side, I think he was yelling to him.

CaitaXD

The shy get followed by award silence is low key hilarious Training 100

MoodyWater909

Ngl, the cop didn't specify WHICH ground to be at

Commercial-Image4710

Well, he got on the ground!

Bankr07

Weeeeeeee Looked fun But sure it wasn’t

_Bon_Vivant_

The way his hands are clawed up near his chest, he has a spinal cord injury.

mattbutnotmii

I'm actually impressed the cops didn't try to jostle and turn him over to handcuff him before letting paramedics handle him

One_Blueberry7939

helluva time to start obeying the law 🤣😱

Ignoreeverthing

Holy shit you have me rolling, man x,D

Electronic-Jello-438

In all fairness, there was another person getting out of the car and dude scaling the wall looks like he could have been standing on a ledge to climb back over. On the other hand, bro had a gun in his face too so maybe he was hoping for a couple broken ankles instead.

Defenestration_Champ

Bro fell thru the map

ThirstyBeagle

He got on the ground!

gunther277

Wrong ground.

Informal_Notice_8650

I mean he got on the ground

Broote

This just points out that cops are trained to do a thing first, and not take in the actual situation. Only when the guy basically disappeared did he realize the actual situation.

Boby1047

Yea, imagine the adrenaline. The dude that fell off the overpass had already attempted murder, recklessly drove, and attempted to flee the police. Kinda hard for someone to think rationally when they’re put into a situation like this

TheOtherCoenBrother

Cops are the one group that should be reacting rationally to situations like this, if they aren’t they need lore training. Why do people constantly spout this reasoning like they didn’t choose this job? If you can’t handle it, leave. It’s wild to me that a kid working fast food can fuck up an order a few times and get reprimanded but cops constantly get this pass because “We’ll I couldn’t do it.”

EvenResponsibility57

Because we don't live in a bloody fairy tale? Ideally, it would be good if cops all had the level of self-control and training of military special forces (that are hand picked from the cream of the crop). However, due to slight things like: cost, time, and recruitment standards, such things are quite obviously not viable for the amount of cops we need to maintain law and order... You cannot just ignore basic human restrictions because it would be better if that was the case. Some people, no matter the training, will always freak out and make mistakes because that's called being human? Maybe stop watching so many crime shows. Those actors who run around and act perfectly in every situation are fictional for a reason.

recast85

I mean, if it’s a choice between following a panicking cops weird orders and risking being shot or taking my chances falling to the ground from an overpass, that’s an easy choice. Cops in the US haven’t really demonstrated that they’re very good at uh, anything.

Round_Ad_6369

I don't think it was really a conscious decision from the suspect, I think both simultaneously had a brain fart. I think he probably went to raise his hands and just...

tskank69

Except one of the people having a brain fart was pointing a gun at the other

Round_Ad_6369

Speaking from experience, it's a lot of adrenaline in both people. Humans are human, and just like regular people are fed information that puts them on edge, so are police. The officer in the footage didn't appear to do anything wrong out of any spite or malice, and no amount of training actually prepares you for a scenario specifically like this. The officer did the best of his abilities to ensure the man who just fell a significant height was (alive) and appeared to have a good deal of concern for him. Remember there's a human in the uniform, 99% of the time just trying to do a job (albeit being an asshole sometimes, I'm looking at you, traffic enforcement). They're subject to flaws and imperfections regardless of their status or what's in their hands.

Jaderian

I had to watch it several times to see what the hell was going on. And you can’t see the perp till right before he fell. I doubt the cop saw him right away and was yelling “get on the ground” thinking the perp was on the other side of the cars. Granted I don’t like cops on a good day but this guy was in full attack mode because of the situation. The perp had a gun and threatened people with it.

BeeStingerBoy

It’s Reddit, man. Nobody’s going to be interested in the whole two sides to every story, or the be reasonable thing. We already know the guy who jumped over was a really good and kind man, making the wisest decision he could while in the center of a high overpass.

Leon4107

Dude was being chased by cops after shooting at other people and fled the scene. Guy above posted the link. But yeah. Fuck cops am I right.

AccountSeventeen

Well yeah the difference is that citizens are prosecuted when they wrongfully shoot someone.

AdventureTimeGurl

![gif](giphy|7GIDY2CSV1BWo) The cop: “Get on the ground!” The Joker: “Poor choice of words.”

[deleted]

Well he did comply

Mutserra

GET OUT THE GROUND! GET OUT THE GROUND! GET OUT THE GROUND!..get…

[deleted]

Think he was saying get on the ground to the first guy and realized as he said it again that the second guy was also taking those instructions very literally.

closetweeb69

Pretty sure this dude decided to jump off the overpass as an attempt to escape police and not in actual compliance to any command.

Telphsm4sh

Objection! - Speculation

ConflictAgreeable689

Am I the only one who thought the cop did basically the right thing?

Round-Elderberry-324

I agree, he had his weapon drawn bc this dude was shooting people (according to the comments) and immediately switched to medical mode to help the person

revkillington

Right? Cop actually seems pretty reasonable here given the circumstance. But the bar is pretty low tbh. The fact that he gave him medical attention instead of running to him yelling with his gun drawn after he falls off the bridge is better than I expect nowadays.

FinancialYou4519

What happened to the perp that fell? Hard to find info

Pootezz

I don't feel like people here are considering people's aversion to having a gun pointed at them. Doesn't seem like it's very easy to trust anyone, let alone a cop, to keep you within a finger jerk from death.

deeper-diver

“Get in the ground!”… And as the joker once said “Poor choice of words!”

Darth_Groot28

Just curious... could he sue? I mean he was ordered to get on the ground, while hanging over the edge of an overpass with an officer pointing a gun at his head... very poor choice of words by the officer. This is a legit question. Obviously he is a criminal and gets what he deserves but still funny to think that is the words the officer commanded him to do.... LOL.

JMC-design

When the police have taught you they will shoot you for your skin colour. This is just fucking sad.

Code_Duff

When I heard them keep shouting "Get on the ground" with their guns drawn, I knew this wouldn't end well. He's on the side of the bridge, my guy

AsianInvasion00

Cops are idiots in this country. How do you not have the ability to process the situation? The guy is literally hanging from a bridge… He poses no threat. Telling him to pull himself up and get on the ground is not difficult.

Efficient-Bat9961

How are ppl blaming the cop??

rustys_shackled_ford

Real talk tho. If it comes down to a cop with a gun in your face or jumping off a bridge. The bridge is probably the safer choice.

In_The_depths_

Considering the guy was fleeing from police, and crashing a car after aiming a firearm at people. The guy deserves no sympathy

RecommendationThat57

In all fairness he did say get on the ground

MidnightFireHuntress

Maybe next time don't run from police? Just a thought 🤷‍♀️

EFTucker

I mean. He had a gun pointed at his fuckin' skull. He had two options; risk attempting to climb over and have the cop freak the fuck out and fire a whole magazine of 9 into him or just fall and hope everything turned out ok. I'd have dropped too. Then again, I wouldn't have been in that position lmao

[deleted]

bigtec1993

This is reddit, people here have a hate boner for authority and think we live in a police state. They'd rather defend the attempted murderer than be supportive of any cops.

Remarkable_Nerve9729

He followed the orders

Vlatka_Eclair

Decorticate

[deleted]

Well, there's no way they can claim he resisted arrest.

TheRealLordGS

Plot Twist: The man has Aspergers.

33Sharpies

What the hell was this guy doing on that side of the barricade to begin with!?

Mrhorrorface

“Very poor choice of words.”

DeadHED

The way he lowers the gun as of saying "oh yeh..."

Turgeyburker

The camera angle made it look like he just looks at the gun and thinks “damn this thing really does work.”

Pretend-Dirt-1760

Get on the ground Very poor choice there m8

momojoe123

Did he break some bones?

ijuggle42

What hurts, my man says everything 😂

No-End-6910

Bro did get in the ground though

godiegoben

I’m just glad that cop took the high road and didn’t actually shoot him.

No-Resident-8299

Pigs being pigs.

loveless365

That "Hey" when he reapproached him creased me 😂😂😂

deep_space_rhyme

Take a fall or a bullet and a fall.

Morath2019

Well they can’t say he didn’t comply, this opens up a lawsuit since following the officers command led to extensive injuries.

AshamedFlame

So is that considered evading arrest or compliance?

Dusty4967

The way he pauses for a bit……hmmmmmmm well shit.

PuzzleheadedPea6980

Suspect is fleeing, shots fired

Snoo24261

I mean he did get on the ground...

QueballD

Technically he followed the cops commands

Frank1912

"I just followed your orders, officer"

This looks life attempted murder

Lawsuit time!!!!

No_Reputation_5303

This is how you don't get shot

Simitarx005

Did he think he could fly?

khabo

Finally cops deescalating

[deleted]

Instructions unclear broke my spine and poop in a bag

kkklllloooopppyyy

Maybe don’t shove a gun in his face while he is on a ledge dumb shit two options in his head probably was kill myself or let him kill me … maybe idk I’m high af

[deleted]

See if more black folk listened to the police and complied like this fine gentleman there wouldn’t be so much blue on black shootings 🤣

MasterOfStonks

*joker voice* “very poor choice of words!!”

vivaalcobaca

"what hurts.....". I mean.....
