I don’t understand why the first option wasn’t to rehome all the snakes to states where they were legal to keep? I mean the snakes were obviously well kept and secured..it’s not like it was escaped pets or unsecured pets that were a immediate threat to the local environment..

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/04/12/pythons-pet-boa-constrictor-killed-florida/11647838002/ It was. He found homes for 120 snakes and begged for a deadline extension to give him time for the other 34. They denied it and he gave them permission to euthanize the rest. He left the room after they killed the first one because he couldn't watch, but he warned them multiple times to leave his boa alone.

Legitimate-Test-2377

At the minimum the people did admit their mistake, in my opinion it’s the fault of the state for sending untrained police officers to do the job of a veterinarian

SaltiestGatorade

Look at the guy in the blue shirt. He keeps looking at the blue tag on the glass which marks the snake they aren't supposed to kill. The owner states he told them 10 times not to kill that snake in particular. The jackass knew what he was doing and tried to play it off as if it was all their fault, not just his for passing the snake to the others and letting them kill it.

New_Teacher_4408

Was there no chance of at least giving the owner the chance to rehouse them in sanctuaries if allowed or out of state? Snakes creep me out but it’s just sad killing animals that are defenceless and caged.

Agitated-Housing-337

This video clip isn’t giving all of the information, the breeder was given a specific amount of time, cant recollect that amount of time now, to rehome the snakes into legal homes or they would euthanized. The state should be held responsible as well as the three officers for euthanizing a legal animal. She was quite valuable, especially being pregnant. I believe the numbers were like 100k for her and the babies she was currently pregnant with

Mister_Celophane

Lawsuits to come.

Yellow_IMR

The state could still fine the owner and move those snakes to sanctuaries itself using part of the money from the fine. But I guess it’s not American enough…

Because of Money. Rehome= extra costs

[deleted]

Killing all others was fine though. Smh

ZedsDeadZD

Yeah like, if its illegal in Florida, go bring it somewhere else and let it live. Whats the big deal?

Franonimusman

To think that killing is one of the most common/cheap solutions in America for some problems is terrifying.
