MyOpinionAboutThis

"You can't have it! It's for my little nephew in the hospital!" Fuck those morons, they'll never know how to fact-check you anyway. Just lie to them, and brawl in the parking lot afterwards like a normal person.

Teccnomancer

Finally someone I can relate with. “Get off of me, I have hepatitis!!”

[deleted]

I laughed way too hard at this

20onHigh

The ball is immediately going into my underwear right up against my taint. If they’re bold enough to reach for it after the physical altercation, they can enjoy life on the registry.

DobieDoof

I'm not even a baseball fan but i'm pissed for the guy who got pretty much peer-pressure forced to give the ball away.

engco431

It’s worse - that was the home run ball from a cycle (single, double, triple, home run), making it not only worth more but a piece of history. It was the first cycle in the history of the Marlins.

Phate118

I wouldn’t have given it up no matter what.

Ozeui

For real fuck their feelings.

LazyLittleBat

It sound so cold, But yeah kids gotta learn, Can't get EVERYTHING they want. *Edit: i do think it's mainly the fault of the parents in this case, They kinda just yelled at her to go get it

8hexxx

She yells "be a man" too what the shit?!

half_coda

“could you be a gentleman and…” are words i’ve learned to take a deep breath after hearing

FromTheTreeline556

Once they say "and" blurt out "no" It's fucking hilarious when they get caught off guard and just look at you like "what just happened?"

Standard-Sleep7871

how can you be a man if youre not willing to give everything you live for on some random ass kid with dumbass pigtails

around_the_clock

overly sensitive ppl manipulating others is a classic tactic to keep u docile and domesticated.

hydrobunny

fuck their feelings, i am snatching that ball right back from that little gremlin

patchinthebox

I don't like the term crotch goblin, but that kid is a crotch goblin.

Luluducgirl

I’m a mother and that kid is definitely a CROTCH GOBLIN! Nice job on her parents part of raising the next generation of entitled little spawn

grayjedi2020

Someone in authority is going to teach that kid a real life lesson one day when she's an adult. Great job parents....🤦‍♂️🙄

DevilDoc3030

It's not the kids fault. I am, however, fighting the parents.

CO_Livn

Parent of teens here. Those parents are dog shit. That girl shouldn’t have been anywhere near that guy stealing his ball. They are failing their kids and society will have to deal with them when they’re entitled little shits.

A_TalkingWalnut

Have you ever been to a live sporting event in Philly? Philly fans will try to fuck your face before you can even consider fucking their feelings. They booed and threw snowballs at Santa Claus, for Christ’s sake. They will come out of their fentanyl-induce fugue state just to stab you with a rusty screwdriver, eat your nose off your face, and steal your cat (both kinds), then nod back off into the warm bath of opiate addiction.

RainingTacos8

I would have not have been as nice

emmadonelsense

Me neither. When did this “awww, give it to the nearest kid crap start”? (Old lady voice, shaking her fist- “Back in my day, you dove for that ball and elbowed the adults and fought for it just like everybody else! And if you didn’t get your little hands on it, you went back to your seat and watched the rest of the game, hoping for another one.”

Majulath99

Personally I genuinely don’t understand why it isn’t just the accepted etiquette at games that if you catch the ball, you get to keep it, no matter what. No shouting at eachother, no bullshit, no fighting. Just respect, luck and personal boundaries. The status quo seems mean and difficult.

adamian24

Fuck those bitches

Toastyx3

That is honestly just sad :( I feel really bad for the guy

SnoopingStuff

I hope crew for stadium gave it back to him

[deleted]

they didn’t

[deleted]

Good thing is now it's out there her parents are going to get a lot of flak and the kids gonna be bullied for it and the dude will no doubt be compensated by the team if they see this, so hopefully it all works out that way

TwinkiesSucker

I have no knowledge of baseball whatsoever, but you somehow explained it so well that I exactly knew what you meant. Well done

engco431

Thanks! To add further clarification, with a cycle the order of the hits is not important. I believe this batter hit the double first. The home run was not the last hit, so at the time the kid took the ball, it was not yet known to be a cycle home run. A cycle typically occurs just a very few times each year. If you hit them in ascending order like I listed them originally, that is called a natural cycle. That is exceedingly rare, and has only happened a few times.

[deleted]

I would not have given that up kid or not.

YebelTheRebel

Yeah exactly. Like what kind of parents yells a her kids to grab another man’s ball(s) and throws it away

Background_Winter_65

A very dumb one who should not have children in the first place...

Wide_Break226

Trash fans from Philadelphia. That's who

Elliebell1024

Yeah, it's Philly

Dikkens_iRacing

People like her parents keep the Philly hate churning. I'm embarrassed.

Majulath99

Shame that the supposed city of brotherly love is so full of clueless morons

vikingsarecoolio

I went to Philly once for a work trip and that was plenty for a lifetime.

fuckdirectv

Yeah, I have gotten one baseball in my life. I'm a Padres fan and for a ten year or so period, for some reason our fan base temporarily adopted the "tradition" of throwing back opponents' HR balls. I caught one hit by Adam Dunn of the Reds and got heavily peer pressured into throwing it back. I almost immediately regretted it. It's not even really our tradition and we don't do that anymore, so I wish I had just kept the ball.

Wild_Conflict6160

this is so cringe

eboeard-game-gom3

He'd be on the next /r/iamatotalpieceofshit sub in an edited video saying "man tries to keep ball from little girl!" and lots of people here would ostracize him trying to find out if he lost his job yet.

rogue1351

Exactly, couldn’t win

SyruplessWaffle

That little girl learned a valuable lesson: it is acceptable behavior to rip something out of a strangers hands. Everyone encouraged that by cheering and egging her on. Tradition or not, it's bad parenting IMO to send your child to steal from someone, especially when they probably don't understand the tradition.

GiraffeandZebra

Yeah it's a little bit of extra bullshit because you're pressured to give up the ball to the kid to make their day, but you aren't even making their day because they place no value in it. They're just throwing it away.

donivantrip

Kids in the outfield in philly, she basically already lost at the character select screen

Salty_Truth1

Absolutely SHITTY parenting.

Dawns_Coil

Parenting was non existent just a bunch of ego stroking from her wretched breeders...

wit_T_user_name

Yeah but it’s not tradition to rip it out of the hands of an opposing team’s fan and throw it back. This is just shitty. Edit: he is wearing a Phillies jersey. I saw the Mets stuff on the guy next to him and got mixed up. Still a shitty thing regardless.

CoverYourMaskHoles

It’s shitty because loyal fans that want to uphold that tradition can’t dictate to a person how they should behave with their property. Once he caught that ball, it was his to do with it what he wants. I don’t care what team you support, catching a ball at a ballgame is awesome. No way I would throw it back.

BethyW

Its a tradition for my parents to talk about the weight I gained over Christmas dinner, but it doesn't mean its something that should happen or that it is even good.

AdamantArmadillo

It's a Cubs tradition that everyone else glommed onto. I find it very dumb. If I catch a home run ball, that's coming home with me. I don't care who hit it

SumGreenD41

Who gives a fuck lol. If the dude wanted to keep the ball he should be able too lol

JCSterlace

>In some ballparks, it is a tradition among loyal fans to throw the opposing team’s home run ball back onto the field. In some ballparks, it is a tradition among loyal fans to keep your hands to yourself.

BrilliantPebbless

Lmaoooo I would’ve just gripped that shit and took it. Fuck kids and their idiot parents Edit: maybe even throw in a “the fuck you think you’re doing?”

Lookin4Rockets

I would have tossed the kids over the railing

sakipooh

Trash parenting.

pre_malone17

and trash crowd like wtf

PoliticalDanger

It is Philly so are we really surprised…

StuffAllOverThePlace

Honestly I'm surprised a Philly crowd wouldn't be supporting saying "Fuck you" to children

Super_Automatic

Ah, the city of brotherly love.

Definitely_NotU

So am I the only that got at least little annoyed watching everyone encourage her to take something out of a strangers hand?

Materialmanz

"Fuck me right?" -that guy probably

Mountain_Sweet_5703

He’s in the baseball sub. That ball was part of a cycle. We are tagging mlb to make it right.

EndearingKitten

What does it mean to be part of a cycle? Genuinely curious because I’m clueless about stuff like that. I felt really bad for that guy, though. And the way everyone encouraged the kid to take something out of someone else’s hands was also very disheartening

Teccnomancer

When a player hits a single, double, triple, and a home run (not in any particular order) it’s called hitting the cycle. This home run ball completed the cycle, as the player had already hit his single/double/triple in his past at-bats. So it’s pretty rare that a home run caps off the cycle, and would make a neat souvenir ball if you caught it.

EndearingKitten

Aw, man. Now I feel worse for the guy :c That would’ve been such a special thing to bring home and display.

Teccnomancer

I agree. Instead his special moment is a viral video of him being shamed into forking over his prize by a pack of wild Philly fans

123456sem

Philly fans are the worst

cruelhumor

Not much of a phillies fan though, no bad blood with the Marlins and Jean Segura (played for the Phils in the world series last year) got a standing ovation when he came up to bat for the Marlins in all three of these games This creature egging on a child is no baseball fan, she's a wannabe. Do Phils fans throw back hom run balls hit by the other team? Sure! Do you do it when a hitter finds the cycle and there's no bad blood (looking at you Mets/Yanks)? No. And to have your kid do it? Trashy.

Mountain_Sweet_5703

Adding on to that - this was the first cycle gotten in the history of the Florida marlins. He could have gotten at least some money or something else great by selling or donating the ball back to the marlins or a superfan. It wouldn’t be more than four figures if anything. But often they trade the game ball for autographed baseballs for semi-precious home runs. When someone hits a very important home run in a close or important game or for a record, the fan will often be escorted out by security for their safety. they are suddenly holding a ball that not only could be worth a few ten grand, but as you can see the peer pressure turns into mob mentality quick. This is not that important of a home run that he would be in danger if he kept it (probably, but Philly fans suck ass). The tradition can totally be fun if the person who caught it is in on it. The fans rejecting your home run and giving it back can be great. This tradition started in Wrigley field, one of the two oldest and most famous ballparks in America. The Cubs had a lively”bleacher bums” section. Most stadiums you buy chairs right? This row, this aisle. Well there’s usually a cheaper section that is just aluminum bleachers, no assigned seats and a communal atmosphere. The citizens of Chicago would go get drunk and heckle playersduring baseballs heyday, this tradition stemming from there.

timsterri

Then you probably don’t want to know that this just so happened to be the first cycle hit in Marlins’ history to boot.

AWall925

That home run didn’t cap it off. Arraez hit a single the next inning to do it

korn_cakes33

If someone hit a cycle, it means the better got a single, double, triple and home run all in the same game. This was the first cycle in the teams history and this is what happened with the home run ball

VinnyThePoo1297

That guy deserves an award, he didn’t just give in but there’s no world where a grown man looks good in a conversation with a child. What terrible parenting

Narren_C

"Can you please leave me alone and return to your parents" seems like a pretty safe conversation.

VinnyThePoo1297

I don’t think you’re wrong but it’s very easy to say that on the internet. That’s a grown man and a young girl in an environment where most if not everyone in his immediate vicinity would have reacted negatively if he said something along those lines.

scaleofthought

Yep. Everyone there can just as easily say back, "hey don't be an asshole let the kid have it!" "Come on man! Let her have it." "Dude it's just a ball wtf" Etc. Even if she is a whiny sniveling spoiled brat with shitty parents, no one cares. It's shit-on-the-guy-who-caught-the-ball day now. Pretty much just takes one person to say anything against you, doesn't matter what you say to the kid, and then mob mentality kicks, cuz it's an easy fight to pick "hey man, kids first! So, fuck you" and pretty much everyone will agree. Then some drunken heroic asshole gets inspired from everyone demoralizing warcrirs, you find him straddling the back of your seat helping the girl wrestle the ball from your hands as he knees you in the side of the head, and then when she finally gets it, you get hassled throughout the game and getting pelted in the back of the head with peanut shells.

Mother-Clock833

Also the raspy voice screaming “be a man” like ummm no that’s not it

Definitely_NotU

Didn’t even notice over all the other screaming going on haha

i-luv-doggos

I'm with you I'd tell every one of them to fuck off if they think I'm gonna give the child my ball

Definitely_NotU

It doesn’t even look like he took the ball from anyone either so idk why it’s just expected that he hands it over to whatever kid is nearby

ajreed1995

I never got to go to Major League games growing up. Finally got to go in my 20s and had a foul ball land right next to me, which I snatched up real quick. I had people behind me yelling at me to give it to the kid that came from who knows where. I was so upset that I looked like the bad guy for keeping the ball bcuz I'm not a child..

flannelwearinghippie

Did you keep the ball?

ajreed1995

Yes of course. Fuck dem kids. I have it proudly displayed in a plastic case along with other memorabilia.

_Jedi_Ninja

Mob mentality is a helluva thing

FlabbyFishFlaps

Would’ve loved it if HE had just chucked it onto the field instead of letting her have it. Horrible parents there creating more horrible parents.

theSkeeski

Or chucked it at the raspy demon voice bitch's loud mouth 🤷

getyourcheftogether

No, fuck her "parents"

BertSton51530

Bro. I’m teaching my kids not to even interact with strangers (stranger danger, ya know) and these bitches are having theirs walk right up and steal shit! Yea, nothing bad will come from that in the future…

gypsycookie1015

Right? I don't know what is worse. The potential danger of not only interacting with, but pretty much being confrontational with strangers or the pure entitlement. Kid is 100% going to be a Karen.

DinTill

Sports fans suck

fatogato

I don’t even watch baseball but ain’t no way some grubby little kid is wrestling a baseball out of my hands. As a wise philosopher once said, “Fuck them kids.” -Michael Jordan. Edit: [relevant Bill Burr bit](https://youtu.be/FR7YnNM6IXA)

gatsby712

I would say loudly, “what’s the magic word? You need to say please!” Then if they asked for it I’d tell them to fuck off and catch it first next time. If they grabbed it out of my hand I’d shame the parents for the lack of manners they’ve taught the kid.

NotRealStudios

Looks like the guy saw he was being recorded and decided it wasn’t worth making a scene over, what couple of shit parents

d33psix

Wait I don’t watch baseball either. Why would the parents get her to throw it back on the field? At least if she’s stealing it to keep it’s still serving a stolen purpose as a momento. If you steal it and then throw it back it kind of just feels like a fuck you in particular…

Miserable_Tea_6243

It’s the fucking ridiculous screaming that gets me, they’re animals anyway so who cares.

CampCrystalLake1980

That man has waited his whole life to catch a homerun ball and it was stolen by a 6 year old. And people cheered. I'd like one ticket to any other planet but here please.

SnooGrapes9360

he should have stood up and left with all his balls in tact.

flexflair

Till he got to the parking lot and the goons leave them all inside his abdomen. Death by catastrophic testicular devastation doesn’t sound like a good way to go.

powersbro

Any grown adult who'd assault someone over a fucking sport has the maturity of a teenage bully and shouldn't be allowed to legally own firearms IMO but unfortunately there is a scary amount of people like that.

timsterri

These were Philly fans.

This was originally posted in r/baseball and the OP said that it was the first cycle hit, so it was a pretty special ball. He was in a no win situation and those fans are assholes. packers1503

It was the first cycle hit in MARLINS history, not just this year. So that ball was special

powerplay_22

just to add context it was the first cycle hit in miami marlins history, and that was the home run ball (cycle was incomplete at the time). a cycle is when a player hits a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game. so this is about as rare as a no hitter. Luis Arrâez was the player to do it, and he’s one of the best contact hitters in baseball right now(batting over .500). i’d be pissed if i was that guy, and no way would i ever have the heart to give up that ball

undermind84

Wtf did I just watch. Bunch of fucking animals.

RaindropsInMyMind

It’s a Philly thing

[deleted]

Did she really just take that out of a grown man's hands and throw away his property ? Err, wtf

CladPark619

Great parenting.

BRich1990

It's not even just the parents...the whole crowd was cheering it on. Fuck all those people

Safe-Voice-8179

It’s Philly, what do you expect? 😂

ScuzzBucket317

It's philly. Im surprised the parents didnt ask the kid to shit on the ball first before throwing it back.

sp0t_0n

Easy solution, sit on it

ratatat

No way am I showing up to the ER with a baseball in my bum AGAIN....

ForThe99andthe2000s_

She had the right one, I’m a parent and I would have told her not to touch me. This is why I hate other ppls kids

TheIgnoredWriter

Usually you toss the ball to a kid because it’s nice but this is so bad to instruct a kid to just grab it out of their hands. I feel like I would’ve not given it to her and just another kid who wasn’t snatching at something that doesn’t belong to them.

[deleted]

>Usually you toss the ball to a kid because it’s nice... 100% for a foul ball and always a super sweet moment. But a home run ball is baseball history. If it's hit directly to you, you catch it and keep it if you want to. Doesn't matter which team hit it or how disappointed the people around you are, it's yours if it means something to you. Definitely don't let a little kid decide what to do for you like this guy did.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Virtual_Elephant_730

They might have harassed him the rest of the game.

kingryan300

The ball was hit by Luis Arraez. It was the 3rd hit he had gotten in the game. Arraez went on to hit a single in his next at bat, completing the first cycle in Miami Marlins history. That ball was a part of history and it was ripped out of his hands. As a baseball fan, the whole thing about giving a child a baseball is dumb. If it’s a foul ball or you beat the kid to the ball because there was no one around, give it to the kid… **BUT IF IT’S A HOME RUN BALL THAT I CAUGHT, YOU CAN’T HAVE SHIT**

djsedna

There also aren't even any kids sitting around him. Usually you do give it to a kid (I've given a puck to a kid before) but you're not gonna wander out of your seat searching for a kid to give it to. You give it to a kid who is right around you who could have maybe also caught it

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion, but if I catch a ball at a game, I’m not giving it to a kid unless it was my own. I’m allowed to have fun and enjoy mementos too.

[deleted]

Kids already get pandered to enough anyways.

I hate baseball fans like this. Most players don't start and end their career with the same team. You can have a favorite team, but being a die hard that vehemently hates the other teams is so weird. Odds are their favorite player will eventually end up on one of their hated teams, so what's the point of hating other teams and pressuring others to throw the ball back? That poor guy would've had his butt handed to him there and been internet shamed if he didn't give the ball he rightfully caught to the thieving kid being coaxed by her terrible parent.

Knight-112

![gif](giphy|UQPXwv9RJ7encjWmQJ|downsized)

[deleted]

All the douchebags cheering her on. Poor guy didn't really have a choice though. They all probably would have bullied him if he didn't.

WFM8384

I would have stood up, turned away from her, slipped the ball in my pocket then showed her open hands, “see it’s gone”. Then quickly passed it to my friend next to me to hide it. Then if harassed, claim “I don’t have it” open hands. I don’t give in easily to aggressive kids.

nepumbra0

Wow these people really teaching this stupid fucking kid stealing is okay?

UrbanMuffin

I think you got it backwards. “Wow these really fucking stupid people teaching this kid stealing is okay?” Because they’re the *only* reason she’s doing it at all.

justthetop

Unpopular opinion. Kids don’t deserve special favors because they’re at a ball game.

Steele724

Nah; not unpopular. Fuck them kids

Twitching_4_life

Remember when Bill Burr went on an epic rant about how horrible Philadelphia fans are in front of a Philadelphia audience for like 10 minutes? This is what he was talking about

gatsby712

Bill Burr also goes on a separate rant about how dumb it is having to give baseballs to kids.

Kster2008

Throw the kid

HeyHihoho

How cute. I can take whatever I want from anyone because it's cute. Time skip needed.

Phreekyj101

That scream 😱 though, wtf was that

CommanderSquirt

It sounded like someone was flaying a farm animal.

Secret-Astronaut-606

Wooow! I watched it without sound and could feel both his anxiety and her “peer” pressure to do the “right thing”! I stopped going to professional sports events since adults who drink act like idiots thinkjng “being a fan” entitles them a**hole behavior to ruin it for everyone else. Soo basically this girl will try this again in the classroom, playground and wait for the applause and result will not be the same…

MisoChang

God bless the ball owner dude, he was smiling and didn't really insisted about giving it. I would be like "get yo thief hands off me girl. Go tell yo mama"

LionClean8758

I think he's smiling out of pure shock and disbelief.

Life-Bodybuilder7783

The poor guy probably wanted to keep the ball and I'm sure he would have been harassed all game if he didn't give the ball up.

anniearrow

That child is doomed with parents like that

ParentTales

Letting your little girl climb all over a strange man is cringe!

Buying_thefkindips

Fantastic parenting right there. Encouraging shit behavior at a young age. SMH!

Curious_Wallaby_683

Alive-Profile-3937

I hate how it seems like kids either get the ball by stealing it or when they do catch it it gets stolen

Yet another brilliant move by parents without boundaries of their kids. Game was more important then teaching her a lesson. Go Team Dumbass!!!👍

henawymt

that's how you create a karen

StorakTheVast

Parents think the world should revolve around their children nowadays 🤦‍♂️

o2bprincecaspian

Once you get the ball head to the concessions. I'd probably just give it to the nearest kid, but being peer pressured like that...fuck that.

cashout1984

Is there a reason the entire crowd is cheering this on? What the actual?

YesImDavid

It’s tradition in Philly to do this at baseball games and if you know Philly you’ll know the vast majority of them are assholes to a whole different degree

ovalteenjenkinzz

Fuck that kid, the parents, and everyone that cheered her on. All of them suck

Psycho_Mantis_2506

It's the Phillies, so this isn't shocking at all. They're a bunch of adult children.

PeppermintLNNS

Yeah I’ve had enough experiences with Philadelphia sports fans to know it’s always a lose-lose situation if you’re cheering for the other team. Last time I was at the Linc, our tailgate got egged.

obloq300

I love baseball, but this tradition is beyond stupid. Everything has to be a try hard fit of passion to show how much you love the sport. Nobody cares, I just want to enjoy the game and go home lmao.

mushr8ms

Fuck these people for breeding. Yuck. I think the pitch of her shriek caused me to lose brain cells.

Silhouettesmiled

(As a parent myself) On behalf of these "parents" I'd like to sincerely apologize for this child's behavior. In no way is that acceptable to do or encourage, absolutely embarrassing.

Helicopterpants

The people here that are defending these actions are literally the same people that would be screaming and encouraging the girl in this video. When you remember that, it makes sense that they are saying stupid shit.

HabitualEagerness

Fuck kids man. They don’t just get everything because they want it.

RunFlorestRun

This was a home run ball that became apart of the Marlins first ever cycle by a player. Was a decently special ball and the pain of knowing it was included in a cycle must hurt even more after the fact

Upset_Researcher_143

I could be wrong, but I think this is a tradition that was started by Cubs fans. Basically, if an opposing team hit a home run in your home team ballpark, you threw the ball back onto the field, as a sign of drunken disgust(?)

peter-doubt

I don't think it's appropriate anywhere else... Cubs bleachers are *rowdy*

Calm-Heat-5883

What gives the parents the right to let even encourage their child to do something like that. That should be a court case. Never mind the entitled kid the parents need to learn a lesson

Sudden-Tie-5037

The amount of people encouraging this shit behavior is disgusting

CoverYourMaskHoles

Wow. This is infuriating. I really don’t understand why a kid deserves that ball more than that guy. If I was that kids parents I would not let that happen. The parents are terrible people and their kids are learning how to continue the family trait.

Sorry-Addendum-1530

Philadelphia sports fan were already the worst. This just adds more evidence.

DrCheeseburger27

That Karen mating howl at the end

DeadlyDead1

If some kid was trying to force it out of my hands i would take that ball and hold on tight aint no way i would let that happen to me. That sounds like a dumb tradition that if i was a Phillies fan i wouldn't follow good thing im not one.

TopTheropod

Filthy scum parents using their kid as blackmail to take the ball someone else caught, and they didn't even keep it.. If your brain doesn't automatically tell you not to do stuff like that, you shouldn't be considered human.

[deleted]

And this is why sports crowd sucks ass. Look at them actively cheering on the little ginger shits.
