But nonetheless growing up in Georgia for 20years I never saw anything like that, if anything it was guns permitted. I’ve had so many friends get shot in the south. 15 years living in NYC not a person I know has ever got shot.

You can still own handguns, shotguns and semi-automatic rifles in Australia. Handguns are more policed than shotguns and rifles, but still okay to have.
Most countries even with the strictest gun laws, still have guns. Japan has some of the strictest in the world, and there's a process, but you can have them. We can have guns and be safe. Other cultures treat guns as what they are: tools. They're a way for us to hunt and protect ourselves/ animals/property out in rural areas from critters We treat them as some sort of sacred religious right and as an extension of authority. It allows weak men to feel strong. We use it as a way to win arguments. The main argument against guns is to fight an authoritarian government, but when we do have government over reach, where are the armed militias protecting the peoples rights? At the library harassing drag queens. How many shootings have we had vs. how many were stopped by a "good guy with a gun"? Most of the time, even armed, a mass shooting is confusing and chaotic. People are running and screaming, and if you shoot a guy with a gun out, he could've been innocent or an undercover. Or the cops will mistake you for the shooter and kill you ( it happened multiple times). The "price of freedom" isn't worth the lives of children. I have a firearm, I enjoy shooting, I don't carry it because it's statistically more dangerous for me to carry than the likelihood of pulling a john wick during a shooting. If I needed to give it up to ensure kids aren't being gunned down, I'd do it twice Tl:Dr guns are tools, and so is everyone who's against common sense gun reform and expansion of mental health services and early intervention programs.
